00:00So, easy peasy first, obviously, thank you so, so much to The Hollywood Reporter.
00:04It's an absolute honor to be here today in full f***ing glam at 8 a.m. on a Thursday morning.
00:14We're here at The Hollywood Reporter's annual Women in Entertainment Gala,
00:18where stars like Adele, Kerry Washington, and more grace the stage
00:22to be honored and celebrated as powerhouse women
00:25who are some of the biggest trailblazers and changemakers in Hollywood.
00:30Isn't it just time for women to run the planet?
00:32I mean, men, we've been running the show since, what, 10,000 B.C.?
00:40Something like that.
00:41And we're not doing so good.
00:43Will Ferrell kicked off the celebration with some opening remarks
00:46that he shared in true comedic fashion.
00:48For this year's gala, THR honored Adele
00:51with the prestigious Sherry Lansing Leadership Award,
00:54with 2010 honoree Dame Helen Mirren presenting the superstar with a recognition.
00:58You know, I read in an interview recently where Adele was called
01:02the voice of her generation, and I totally disagree with that.
01:07Her voice is one for the ages.
01:12The award was established in honor of the former CEO of Paramount Pictures
01:16and recognizes innovators and philanthropists in entertainment and media.
01:20During her speech, Adele said this.
01:22Sherry, you are the epitome, absolute epitome, of what it is to open doors
01:28and, more importantly, to leave them open.
01:31Because of all the sacrifices that the women before me have made,
01:35it's because of them that I have every right
01:37to be the boss at work and the boss at home.
01:39So thank you.
01:41Meanwhile, Ariana DeBose presented Kerry Washington
01:43with the Distinguished Equity and Entertainment Award.
01:46She is an inspiration to women around the world,
01:49the epitome of grace, class, and leadership.
01:52She is a trailblazer.
01:54She has shown us what is possible,
01:56not just in our industry, but in the world.
01:58This award recognizes individuals
02:00who amplify the voices of underrepresented communities
02:03in the entertainment industry.
02:05During her speech, Washington reiterated
02:07the importance of representation and being seen in media.
02:11That's why centering stories about marginalized people is so important.
02:15This is why heroes have to look like all of us.
02:19Our stories, our movies, our music.
02:22Art teaches us to stop and slow down
02:24and really see ourselves and see each other.
