00:00Now here's your host, Dave Dobson.
00:06Hey, Motorheads. Thanks for tuning in to Motorhead Garage.
00:09We love hearing from you during the week, and you can do that on our social media channels.
00:13You can also do that to me personally. You can send me a note, Dave at MotorheadGarage.tv.
00:18Tell us how we're doing. Tell us what you'd like to see.
00:20I've had a lot of friends and family ask me about this one because everybody likes to keep their car clean.
00:24This is a revolutionary idea that makes it easy to clean pet hair.
00:28My family has it, and we love it.
00:31If you're a professional detailer or if you just like to keep your car looking good,
00:34a name you want to know is Buffbrite.
00:36And, Tom, you've been in the business for, what, 40?
00:3942 years.
00:3942 years, so you know what you're doing when it comes to detailing.
00:42And I just want to show you this man's credentials. Take a look at the sleeve there.
00:45Yeah, so what's the IDA?
00:47The IDA is the International Detailing Association.
00:49It's like ASE is to mechanics.
00:52It's a whole bunch of people around the world that are in a part of an organization to help each other out
00:56help the detailing community grow and become even more than it is now.
01:01And so, basically, you are one of only 20-some certified IDA instructors when it comes to detailing.
01:06Yeah, the recognized industry trainers, independent trainers, and we work to certify people and get them the credentials they want with the IDA.
01:14All that to say this man knows what he's doing.
01:16So, I know pet hair is something that is just the enemy of everybody trying to get their car clean.
01:22Every detailer has been in those marathon pet hair removals that just take hours and hours to get done.
01:27And I have two German Shepherds, so I know exactly what that's about.
01:30Yeah, you're bringing up one here.
01:32Yeah, we got one of those.
01:33Yeah, the scraper like that.
01:34And then you have the brush that a lot of people are familiar with.
01:37It has a little scraper on the side.
01:39They still never get the job quite done.
01:41So, what have you done to fix their problems?
01:42Yeah, there's stones and everything else, but they are really hard to work with and scratch the interior.
01:47So, what we came up with, we call it the For Real.
01:49It looks like an eel, has little eyes to it and stuff.
01:52It'll hook to any vacuum in the world.
01:54We have adapters for it that will fit everything from a large shop vac hose to the smallest little hoses.
01:59And I'll show you something else we've done here in a minute.
02:02But this pops off of this adapter, this mini crevice tool.
02:05It'll also, if you're at the car wash and you have this one, it'll actually slide right onto this.
02:10Nice.
02:10So, you can just throw it in your glove box.
02:13It'll fit inch and a quarter inside, inch and a half outside.
02:16So, when you go to the car wash, you can put that on there.
02:18And this just absolutely destroys pet hair.
02:21As we saw, we added some pet hair to one of our colleagues' vehicles here.
02:25And boy, we grabbed that stuff in and that took care of it.
02:27For real is for real.
02:28It really does work.
02:30We've tried every other pet hair tool on the market.
02:32It's five times faster than any of them.
02:34Now, of all the things you have to clean up in your car, it seems like pet hair is the most stubborn.
02:38Of course, there's leaves and there's dirt and debris.
02:40But pet hair is so hard to get out of your car's upholstery.
02:44And why is that?
02:44Well, first of all, pet hair is super fine and it's super light.
02:48So, think of your carpet as sort of being like Velcro.
02:51These are the hooks or the loops that hold it all in.
02:53And the pet hair actually interweaves with the carpet fibers.
02:57And even short hair can get under those fibers and burrow in.
03:00And it makes that especially hard to get out.
03:02And if you think that your car's upholstery attracts pet hair, well, you're right.
03:06Because static electricity is created on your carpet that creates static cling.
03:11And that is another reason why pet hair actually sucks right into your upholstery and it makes it hard to get out.
03:17Now, I told you my family uses the Fur Eel.
03:19And it's true.
03:19My wife and I keep one in the glove compartment.
03:21Ever since Tom came to the studio and gave us one, it is the most important tool we carry with us.
03:26We use it at the car wash.
03:27It easily adapts to the hose at the car wash.
03:29We can also use it at home.
03:31And it's simple.
03:31It's super easy to use.
03:33Now, of course, you can try this.
03:35This is one of the rollers you've seen that you use maybe for your clothing.
03:38And it's great for that.
03:39It's just a sticky roller and you peel off the tape once you get it full of hair.
03:43And it's very easy to use on a piece of clothing to get a little bit of lint off or something like that.
03:48Maybe a little bit of pet hair.
03:49But we tried it here on the floor mat that we embellished a little bit with extra pet hair.
03:54And it was a task.
03:56You didn't get very far with it.
03:57Once we started rolling, it got clogged up with hair.
04:00Had to start peeling off the sticky.
04:02And that would take hours and hours and hours and probably several rollers to actually get the job done in your car.
04:07So that is not the solution for pet hair in your car.
04:11So my wife and I have also tried one of these gloves.
04:14Now, this is made of rubber.
04:16It's actually pretty cool.
04:17I know that a lot of people actually will pet their dogs with this and it gets some of the hair off.
04:20And that's nice.
04:22It's also made to get hair off of upholstery.
04:24And you slide it right on.
04:26It did a pretty good job compared to the roller especially.
04:29But it started clogging up with hair immediately and we had to keep cleaning it off.
04:33And that was going to be very laborious getting it done with it.
04:36And it still wasn't exactly perfect.
04:38And to boot, my wife is allergic to the gloves.
04:41So this was not a solution for us either.
04:43So thank goodness for the fur eel.
04:46First of all, I think it's cool because it looks like an eel.
04:48It's even got eyes and teeth like a moray eel.
04:51And those teeth are the secret.
04:53You can actually run this back and forth.
04:54You don't have to put a lot of pressure on it either.
04:56So it wasn't too taxing.
04:59You can actually just let the tool do the work as you go back and forth getting all the hair off the carpet.
05:03Immediately it was showing better results than the glove.
05:06Way better results than the roller there.
05:08You just kind of go against the grain and you go in one direction, maybe the opposite direction.
05:13And we found out the pet hair came up really easily with a fur eel.
05:17It took a couple of passes.
05:18But the great thing about it, I know there are other tools out there
05:21that you can get pet hair off of your upholstery with, but they're not attached to your vacuum.
05:26So you end up getting a pile of hair and then you have to make a run with the vacuum.
05:30With the fur eel, it's kind of a two-in-one solution.
05:32It actually sucks the hair up as you take it off of the carpet.
05:36And you can see here as we finished, this thing looks just like it did, just like it was when we bought the car.
05:41We got all the dog hair off and that was ground in.
05:43Believe me, we made sure we ground it in and made it an extreme situation.
05:47And the fur eel made amazing work of that.
05:49Believe me when I tell you I experienced it firsthand, the fur eel is for real.
05:54This thing works.
05:55You can trust Buffbrite's 40 years of experience.
05:58You can get this at buffbrite.com and it ships from the USA.
06:02Well, John Gardner's kind of a big deal and the professor will be educating us on fuel filters and diagnosis.
06:08We've got all that and more still to come on Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products.
06:12Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products is brought to you by Amsoil, the first in synthetics.
06:20Steel Rubber Products, get your ride sealed with steel.
06:24And by Custom Auto Sound, audio for the great classics, customs, and street rods.
06:30All right, Motorheads, hear me out.
06:34Now, you've seen the cell phone seat before, but what if I told you it's gotten even better?
06:38That's one of the most popular items we've ever seen here on the show.
06:42Scott, when you invented the cell phone seat, it was an evolutionary process.
06:45You kept getting feedback and you kept trying it out.
06:47And you've done that again, an evolution through what your customers had to say.
06:51So how has the cell phone seat gotten even better?
06:54So great questions.
06:54We had a lot of feedback from our customers.
06:56They love the product, but they mentioned some things that could potentially be better.
06:59Well, we've worked really hard to make some improvements on the device itself.
07:03Not only have we changed the front to make your front navigation buttons more accessible,
07:07we've also included optional foam inserts.
07:10So some people had a little bit of movement maybe with smaller phones or phones without cases.
07:14Now we've got these amazing foam inserts that you can easily put into the holder
07:18to work for smaller phones or phones that don't have a case.
07:21We also have modified the base.
07:23So if you have any type of movement in your cup holder, I mean, because there's, you know,
07:28100 million different combinations of cup holders, of cell phone sizes, plus you have accessories and cases.
07:34So we have created these foam strips that you can now put around the base of your cell phone seat
07:39to ensure that it fits perfectly and stays secure in your cup holder while you're driving.
07:44Now that wasn't an exaggeration.
07:45100 million is actually the number Scott came up with using AI to figure out how many different combinations there are.
07:50And this, of all devices out there, there are other options, this fits more than any other.
07:56Why is it so adaptable?
07:57Well, we just made it really universal, right?
07:59It has a flexible set of rings on the base that you can flex from 4 inches down to about 3 inches.
08:04You can even modify these to get down to 2.5 inches if needed, and we have that in our instructions.
08:09We left the top very open to accommodate for larger phones, phones with large cases.
08:14People, I use a wallet case on my phone, so I need a lot of extra room in there.
08:17So we do have this large opening for those types of phones.
08:20But, of course, a lot of people have very small phones.
08:23I mean, you have the newest phone from iPhone is pretty tiny, right?
08:27So that's going to have a little bit of movement when you're in the device, which is okay.
08:31You can have a little bit of movement when it's in there.
08:33But with the new foam inserts, check that out.
08:37Don't try this at home.
08:38So now with the new foam inserts, you can actually put those in there and not have any movement on any different type of phone.
08:42Now, I mentioned this is an evolutionary process, and the cell phone seat looks super simple.
08:48But it was complicated to get this designed exactly the way you wanted it to.
08:52Durability, I know, was also a factor that you thought of when designing this.
08:55Correct.
08:56So because it's the only single piece of plastic that does everything that the cell phone seat does on the market, it had to be extremely durable.
09:03We're very proud to say this is made in America.
09:05We make this in Frazier, Michigan, out of very strong, durable, American-made plastic.
09:11This is made by American Hands.
09:13Again, we put a lot of pride into the strength that we have and the durability.
09:16There is a lifetime warranty on it.
09:17So, hey, if it's five degrees outside and you try to squeeze it into a small cup holder and you crack it, we're going to replace it for you.
09:24Very cool.
09:24And you have a lot of different options now.
09:26And there are newer options since the last time we saw you regarding colors and design.
09:29So let's look at some of what's new from the cell phone seat and the cup holder phone holder, the new version.
09:35That's correct.
09:35So we've added some new colors, including a wolf gray, a canyon beige.
09:38We do have a lot of our original colors.
09:40And we're very excited to show that we have these new custom colors.
09:43These are hydrographic dipped.
09:44And you can get anything from the tie-dye to American flag version.
09:49So people are very excited about those.
09:51And it's more than you can see here.
09:52If you go to cellphoneseat.com, you can see even more designs.
09:55One of the things I love about the cellphoneseat is that you can actually still use your cup holder with that.
10:00And I think that stands head and shoulders above everything else.
10:03I get in a lot of rental cars.
10:05The cup holder is the only place to put the phone.
10:07And that renders it useless.
10:09I'm not able to use it for anything else.
10:10Exactly.
10:11You definitely don't want to block your cup holder.
10:12That's the reason I designed this.
10:13You know, when I first had the idea, I was throwing my phone in my cup holder like most people do.
10:17It was bouncing around.
10:18I couldn't really see it.
10:19The idea popped in my head.
10:20We worked for years 3D printing different versions of this to get it just right.
10:24And the ultimate goal of to make it fit universally in most cup holders without actually blocking the cup holder.
10:31Because, hey, you know, we need our coffee.
10:32We need our water.
10:33You know, we need our protein, energy drink.
10:35Whatever the drink of the day is, we need to have access to it.
10:38So this can be used anywhere there's a cup holder between 3 and 4 inches.
10:41It's going to work in golf carts.
10:42It's going to work in, we've even heard it works in tractors.
10:45It's going to work in your cars.
10:46It's going to work in your trucks.
10:47It's going to work in your boat.
10:48It's even going to work at home in your recliner.
10:49And it's going to work with more than just phones here.
10:52If you've got a kid maybe with their iPad in the back, you can set that right in there and put it in the cup holder in the car seat and you're good to go.
10:59That's correct.
11:00Now your kid's back there.
11:01He can watch whatever he likes to watch or play on his iPad and he doesn't even lose spot for his apple juice or his milk.
11:05Now there are imitators out there.
11:07You can go to other websites and you can find a cheap substitute.
11:09It may look the same, but the design and the quality will not be the same as the cup holder phone holder from Cell Phone Seat.
11:15But the only place to get the real deal is CellPhoneSeat.com.
11:19You know diesel engines run and run and run and that's one of the reasons people love them so much.
11:24But you've got to maintain it.
11:26We're going to show you a great way to do that a little later on here on Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products.
11:31Got a whole lot more in the meantime.
11:33We'll see you in a few.
11:34You are locked into Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products coming to you from the Mouse Blocker studio.
11:41Mouse free for years now.
11:43Thanks to our friends at Mouse Blocker.
11:45A mouse only needs a few hours under your hood before he starts chewing on the wiring and about only a day to shred your insulation.
11:52And in just a week, your wiring harnesses could be completely destroyed.
11:56But you can stop the damage before it starts with Mouse Blocker.
12:00Mouse Blocker is the electronic deterrent that drives mice away.
12:04It uses ultrasonic technology so there's no traps, no poison, and no nasty surprises in the spring.
12:09Look, it takes just a couple of seconds to plug in a Mouse Blocker device either under your hood or in your shop.
12:16Once you plug it in, you protect your car, your RV, your boat, your motorcycle all winter long.
12:21Get one.
12:21Go to MouseBlocker.com and protect the ride you love.
12:24Maybe your car is a little sluggish.
12:35Maybe it's hesitating or you just got bad performance.
12:38Perhaps, bang, you got the check engine light on.
12:41Well, welcome to this AMSOIL tech tip.
12:43You know, it might just be as simple as a fuel filter.
12:46What are you talking about when we're talking about a fuel filter?
12:48We're talking about a filter that filters the fuel.
12:51Pretty obvious.
12:52But if you look right there at the fuel tank, it comes up, goes through the fuel filter, through the injectors, and a lot of them return back to the tank.
13:00How do you change a fuel filter?
13:01Great question.
13:02Well, a lot of them are in the tank.
13:03It may be difficult, but you also could have some right on the frame rail like this.
13:07First step you want to do is just disconnect the actual fuse or the power to it and turn it over.
13:12Why?
13:12We're going to depressurize the system.
13:14We don't want fuel flying.
13:15And then get you a line wrench and go ahead and disconnect the fuel filter.
13:19Once you got the fuel filter off, just make sure your O-rings and everything's in place up there.
13:23And then you're going to put it back on.
13:24And when you put it back on, just reverse the procedure.
13:27But make sure you follow the arrow of flow.
13:29Once you got it on, snug it up.
13:31You'll be good to go.
13:32Recommends about 24,000 miles.
13:34Look at your manufacturer's service manual to find out when.
13:38Fuel filters could be in the tank too, Len.
13:39I got a pretty cool demo set up here.
13:41And if you give me a hand, I'm showing you.
13:43We've got a fuel pump right here, a filter, and then we're going to return.
13:46I got a battery down here, so I'm going to reach down here and just plug it in.
13:50And there we go.
13:51We're actually running it.
13:52Now, I'm running it through the amps because amps, mechanical draw, amps are going to go up.
13:56What do we have?
13:57You get 3.7.
13:583.7.
13:59And so what I'll do is I'll simulate a restriction here, just like that.
14:02Is it going up?
14:03And we are up to 3.9.
14:05So we're not...
14:053.9, yeah.
14:06So just think about that for a minute.
14:07We're taking that restriction with that fuel pump and we're causing a problem.
14:11Now, this come out of a parts washer.
14:13This is pretty nasty.
14:14But fuel filters, they have a big job to do.
14:17They do.
14:17And if the fuel filter can get clogged, right, that's its job is to pick up anything.
14:22This is obviously very dirty fuel.
14:24But the fuel filter, it can get clogged.
14:26And if it does, it creates that restriction.
14:28Yeah, I got a perfect demo for that one.
14:29If you look at this one right here and then you look at this one, I'll put them side by side for you guys.
14:34You can see.
14:35Len, what do you think of that one?
14:35Right.
14:35A clogged filter generally will collapse.
14:37And that's what you're seeing.
14:38That filter was clogged.
14:39It twisted and collapsed, not moving any fuel.
14:41That's not going to do it, number one.
14:43Number two, Len, if you go around the country, there's different fuel blends.
14:46I mean, it depends on the climate, the time of the year.
14:49You may even get some fuel that's really not up to par.
14:51You guys have products that can help us with that as well.
14:54We've got fuel additives, whether you're dealing with a gasoline vehicle or a diesel vehicle,
14:58full line of fuel additives for all of those conditions you described.
15:01To cover the seasonality, if you're operating a diesel in cold temperature,
15:05we've got cold weather performance improver.
15:07We've got cetane boosts.
15:09We've got octane boosts.
15:10So basically, we've got additives that can cover all your needs.
15:14Len, here at Motorhead Garage, Dave Dobson, the crew, and I were always preaching maintenance,
15:19maintenance, maintenance.
15:20Now, I know you believe in that.
15:21Absolutely.
15:22And that's why at Amsoil, we've got a full line of maintenance products for your fuel system.
15:25So check it out at amsoil.com.
15:27It's time to test your automotive IQ.
15:30Frenchman Nicolas-Joseph Cugno invented the first steam-powered road vehicle,
15:36a tractor for the French Army.
15:37In what year did Cugno's machine first hit the road?
15:42Was it 1805, 1650, 1899, or 1769?
15:51Believe it or not, over 250 years ago in 1769.
15:57We are always on the prowl for someone to feature as Motorhead of the Week.
16:01If you or someone you know qualifies, send us a note on social media.
16:04We'll get you here on the show.
16:06We'll be right back with more Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products,
16:09so keep it right here.
16:11Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products,

16:23Classic Industries, your one-stop shop for all restoration and performance parts and accessories.
16:29And by Ion Classic, the best way to document your restorations.
16:36One of our favorite guests is here, Guy Olson.
16:39He's with Performance Fuel Specialists, and he's going to tell us about diesel fuels.
16:43But first, I want to tell you, there's a whole lot to learn about diesel and gasoline additives.
16:47So go to his website, fuelguys.com, and you can subscribe to the newsletter.
16:52You're going to learn a whole lot more than we can explain here,
16:54and you'll get free shipping on anything over $30.
16:57But first, let's talk about the task at hand here, Guy.
17:00We're talking about wintertime, colder climates.
17:02Of course, there's something here for everybody, not just people that live in cold climates.
17:06But when diesel fuels get cold, they don't flow as well because they gel.
17:11So there are a lot of anti-gels out there.
17:13You guys have one at PFS.
17:14How is it different from the other products out there?
17:17That's a great question.
17:18And first, I want to explain the technology behind how an anti-gel actually functions.
17:23So in the diesel fuel, you either have a blend, which people in the cold are familiar with.
17:28But diesel fuel anti-gels chemically change the fuel.
17:32So what we do is we take and change all the polarity of the molecules of the wax.
17:38So when it gets cold, they're all positive.
17:40So when it gets cold, they want to congeal and join together.
17:43But because they're all the same polarity, they push apart.
17:46So the goal is to treat all of the molecules in your fuel and keep them from jellying.
17:53However, number two fuel with a chemically altered molecule is still number two fuel.
17:59Okay.
18:00And what's the difference between number one and number two diesel?
18:02Great.
18:03So number one fuel is thinner.
18:04Now, it has less wax, but it's thin and it flows easy because diesel fuel is an oil.
18:10It's not like gasoline.
18:12It is actually an oil.
18:13And when it gets cold, it becomes thick.
18:15Now, your motor oil does the same, but your motor oil filter has a bypass.
18:20So when it's cold, it'll bypass the filter.
18:22Not the case in your fuel filter.
18:24And what's happened with the latest technology is the fuel has, the fuel filters have become so tight.
18:32The tolerances, they're down to about a three micron is what you're seeing, where they used to be 30.
18:36That's 10 times tighter than they've ever been.
18:39And what's happening is it's hard to pull that cold, thick fuel through these filters when it gets cold.
18:45So the benefit of an anti-gel has become more limited based on the amount of flow.
18:51So it's actually not uncommon to have somebody have a fuel failure, but it's not because of wax.
18:56It's due to the problem of flow.
18:58They can't pull enough fuel fast enough through the filter to stay running.
19:02So number one diesel is less viscous.
19:05Is it an anti-gel?
19:06So number one fuel will flow easier and help you pass through that filter, but it is not an anti-gel.
19:11So when you add number one to your fuel, generally it takes a 50-50 blend or 50% one and 50% number two in order to get even a 10 or 15 degree reduction in operating temperature.
19:25Where generally an anti-gel like ours, if you're using it, can get you 20 to 30 degree reduction in cold weather operation.
19:34So what's better, a blend or an anti-gel?
19:36First off, the cost of a blend is substantially more.
19:39A 50-50 blend is going to cost you about 30 cents a gallon more.
19:43And number one has less power, less performance.
19:47It has far less lubricity as well.
19:49And number two doesn't have any anyways.
19:51And so the cost itself of the additive is about 10 cents a gallon.
19:56So for 10 cents a gallon more, I can keep you running at almost every temperature that you're going to experience throughout the winter, except the extreme cold days.
20:06So literally, you can run number two diesel fuel for all but maybe two weeks of an entire winter.
20:12Save yourself that 20 cents a gallon and you get the extra lubricity because these are complete formula.
20:17We're going to take out the water.
20:19We're going to help with that icing itself.
20:21We're going to lubricate up to a 25% increase in lubricity.
20:24And we're going to stabilize that fuel for storage as well as the oxidation, which we referred to in the Power Plus summer diesel treatment.
20:32There is some amazing technology behind everything that PFS does, and you can find it all at FuelGuys.com.
20:37That's also where you can sign up for the newsletter.
20:40By the way, Guy's going to be back in just a few weeks to talk more about diesel.
20:43Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products will be back in seven days.
20:48And if you miss us in the meantime, head over to the Motorhead Garage YouTube page.
