The comedian is the eighth castmember to depart the NBC sketch comedy series ahead of season 48.

00:00Saturday Night Live will be down yet another veteran cast member when it's 48th season premieres.
00:05Chris Redd, who's been with the show since 2017, will be departing.
00:09He becomes the 8th cast member to leave the long-running NBC sketch series
00:13before season 48 debuts on October 1st.
00:17Redd's departure follows those of Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, and Kyle Mooney,
00:22all of whom departed at the end of season 47 in May.
00:25And the summer exits of Alex Moffat, Melissa Velasenor, and featured player Aristotle Lothari.
00:31Redd said in a statement,
00:32Redd joined SNL as a featured player before being bumped up to a main cast member in 2019.
00:50He won an Emmy for Outstanding Music and Lyrics in 2018 for the song, Come Back Barack.
00:55Elsewhere, he'll headline an HBO Max comedy special, Chris Redd, Why Am I Like This, later this year,
01:01and is attached to Universal's feature, Cyber Monday, which is in development.
01:05Season 48 of SNL is set to premiere October 1st.
01:08The show has yet to formally announce which cast members are returning,
01:12and a host and musical guest have also yet to be announced.
