00:00Adam, it is so great to have you back at SNL after 24 years.
00:04Oh yeah, 24 years, that's like one Shawn Mendes ago.
00:07Actually, I'm only 20, so...
00:09Shut up.
00:1024 years after leaving Saturday Night Live,
00:12former cast member Adam Sandler returns to host the show
00:15for the first time ever on May 4th with musical guest Shawn Mendes.
00:19In honor of what executive producer Lorne Michaels says
00:21is sure to be a special night,
00:23here are five of Sandler's most memorable SNL characters and moments.
00:27The comedian joined NBC's SNL as a writer in 1990
00:30and became a featured player the following year.
00:32Sandler became a breakout star with characters like the Gap Girls,
00:36which saw the actor team up with David Spade and Chris Farley to play Gossipy Gap employees.
00:52In the 1993 sketch, The Denise Show,
00:54Sandler's heartbroken character Bryan hosted a show to mourn the loss of his relationship with Denise,
00:59played by Shannon Doherty.
01:01Welcome to The Denise Show.
01:02As you know, Denise is the girl who broke up with me five weeks ago.
01:07It wasn't that big a deal. She ripped open my chest and pulled out my heart.
01:12And who can forget Opera Man, the over-the-top opera singer who gave a musical take on the week's biggest stories.
01:17Meanwhile, in this 1991 Weekend Update segment, Sandler advised the audience on how to create a Halloween costume while on a budget.
01:31Sandler would go on to provide more costume ideas in later segments, but the actor also became known for bringing his musical abilities to SNL by performing comedic musical numbers.
01:49Like his famous The Hanukkah Song.
01:51Put on your yarmulke, here comes Hanukkah. The owner of the Seattle Supersonica celebrates Hanukkah.
02:00And, of course, Lunch Ladyland with Chris Farley.
02:02Everybody gets enough food down here in the magical. Lunch Ladyland.
02:12Be sure to tune in to Sandler's SNL hosting debut on Saturday, May 4th on NBC.
