00:00My name is Sarah Connor. I've never seen one like you before. Almost human.
00:07Dark Fate self-destructed at the box office this weekend, bombing with a U.S. haul of just $29 million,
00:14well behind expectations. And its performance wasn't much better overseas either, where it has earned $94.6 million to date,
00:21including a lackluster China launch of $28 million, for a global total of $123.6 million.
00:27Why do you care what happens to her?
00:29Because I was her.
00:33Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Dark Fate faces losses of $120 million or more,
00:38for partners Skydance Media, Paramount Pictures, and 20th Century Fox,
00:42which each put up 30% of the $185 million budget.
00:46Disney, which now owns the Fox film studio, will absorb the loss.
00:49China's Tencent has a 10% stake.
00:51So it looks like the iconic Hollywood film franchise has been terminated, at least for the foreseeable future.
00:56I'll be back.
00:59Box office analysts say the movie's poor opening is a reflection of complete IP failure.
01:03And insiders at Paramount and Skydance don't disagree.
01:06Expert Eric Handler of MKM Partners says it is time to let this franchise finally go to the great beyond.
01:11And Jeff Bach of Exhibitor Relations adds,
01:14this is definitely the end of the line for the Terminator franchise and its current iteration.
01:18None of the companies involved would comment on the losses,
01:20but sources close to Skydance say there are certainly no plans for another film at this point.
