Jeremy Irons chats with THR at the season four premiere of 'The Morning Show' and dishes on his character saying, "I don't behave very well!" Plus, he shares his thoughts on A.I., hoping that the good things outweigh the bad.
00:00Is there anyone, actually, from the cast that you did not get a chance to work with this season?
00:05Yeah, Reese Witherspoon. I didn't see Reese Witherspoon. I thought she wasn't in it.
00:08I mean, she was never there. She was talked about, but never there.
00:13But I've just met her, so I know she exists.
00:16She does. She does.
00:17She's two feet away from us, so maybe we'll get a little interaction in a minute.
00:21Congratulations on this season.
00:23It would be a great idea to write a script and write a character who was always talked about but never there.
00:31And you could cast it, and the actor could be paid for never being there.
00:35I thought I might do that.
00:36I think maybe we can pitch it for next season of The Morning Show.
00:40Yeah.
00:40How about we do that?
00:41Yeah.
00:42Because you could probably pay them less if they're never there, you know?
00:46Can you talk to me a little bit about your character this season and how they shake things up at UBA?
00:51Well, I'm, as a character, a bit of a disaster zone for somebody who is trying to hang on to a fairly important job.
01:05I don't behave very well.
01:08I don't make it easier for her, for Jen.
01:12But I hope out of that comes something in our relationship, which has become dysfunctional, and that maybe we come together.
01:27We shall see.
01:28We shall see.
01:29Well, I heard that this season tackles AI a bit.
01:33But did working on this season and having these storylines around AI, did it make you rethink your own stance or opinions on, yeah, on media landscape?
01:43I try not to think about AI.
01:46I'm sure I use it sometimes without really realizing.
01:49But it's something that people talk about a great deal, but which I don't.
01:55I put it off my, there's enough for me to worry about without AI.
01:59It'll do what it does, like people that'll have great things about it and terrible things about it.
02:07But I hope the good things outweigh the bad.
02:11We shall see.
02:12Yeah, so staying hopeful a little bit.
02:14Yeah, I am.
02:15Now, I know that this season takes place in 2024.
02:19There's a little bit of a time jump.
02:20How does the show tackle politics?
02:23And will we see any part of the election in this?
02:27Well, I don't know, really, because I'm only in bits sort of that are outside that.
02:34So I'm not the person to ask.
02:37I've been estranged from my daughter who runs this company, who's a journalist, which is not a job I think much of.
02:45And I only know about her from what I read in the newspapers.
02:50So I'm not the person to ask about that.
02:53What was it like working with Jen Aniston and playing her father?
02:58It was wonderful.
02:59She's a wonderful actress.
03:00She makes it very easy.
03:02She's a lot of fun to be with.
03:04All I could ask.
03:07She's a lot of fun to be Mary Kat.
03:09But I don't know.
03:10I don't know that she's a territory to America.
