Paramount and Nickelodeon's 'The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge' on the Run is bypassing a theatrical release and will instead debut on premium VOD in early 2021

00:00It looks like the new Spongebob movie won't be getting a theatrical release after all.
00:10Paramount and Nickelodeon's The Spongebob Movie, Sponge on the Run, which was originally set
00:14to hit the big screen on August 7th, is now bypassing a theatrical release and will instead
00:19debut on premium video on demand in early 2021, before soaking up an exclusive spot
00:24on CBS All Access.
00:26The film was among the first batch of Hollywood event picks scheduled to play in re-open theaters
00:30before ViacomCBS announced the shift on Monday.
00:33All prior seasons of SpongeBob SquarePants will also launch on CBS All Access as part of
00:38the service's ongoing expansion leading up to the streamer's rebranding in early 2021.
