00:00Hello, hello everybody, good evening, hello, you are so very welcome to the show, one on all.
00:28And do you like my outfit?
00:32I made a very swift visit to the tailor earlier today.
00:38He's very excited about my suit.
00:40Now look, there is a lot of excitement in the studio tonight.
00:42We have a world-class line-up for you, singing for us later.
00:45Look over there, it's the brilliant Lewis Capaldi!
00:51Welcome back to Lewis, he'll be performing his new single, Something in the Heavens.
00:55But, heavens above, who's on my sofa tonight?
00:57Well, first off, this Irish actor stole our hearts in About Time, endured the wilderness in The Revenant,
01:03and defied the resistance in the Star Wars franchise.
01:06Now he brings us a new sitcom, The Paper, it's Donald Gleeson, everybody!
01:10There it is!
01:11You look so smart!
01:12You look so smart!
01:13Have a seat!
01:14You're down there!
01:15You're on the end!
01:16Yeah!
01:17We've two ass-kicking stars from the new sci-fi film Tron Aries.
01:27One's a style icon who rocks every red carpet and made her big screen debut in the indie hit Queen & Slim.
01:34The other is the scene-stealing star of Russian Doll, The Morning Show, and the heartbreaking Past Lives.
01:40It's Jodie Turner-Smith and Greta Lee!
01:43Wow!
01:44Very strong!
01:45Very strong!
01:46Very strong!
01:47Hello!
01:48Hi!
01:49Very strong!
01:50Hello!
01:51Hi!
01:52Very strong!
01:53And love!
01:54Have a seat, Gil!
01:56This actor first made his mark in the post-apocalyptic 28 days later before going on to star in the hit TV series Peaky Blinders and winning an Oscar for his performance in Oppenheimer.
02:12Now he stars in the intense classroom drama Steve, it's a first-time welcome to the great Cillian Murphy!
02:19And there's someone else.
02:38This singer-songwriter broke every record in the book with her sold-out era store and now she's back with her 12th album, The Life of a Showgirl.
02:46It's the biggest pop star on the planet, please welcome, Taylor Swift!
02:50It's so nice to see you all.
03:19And there's a lot to congratulate Taylor Swift about, but the one I feel I ought to graduate is the new bit of finger jewellery.
03:26The hardware upgrade?
03:27Yes. Check it out.
03:41Just like watch it like it's a TV.
03:43I thought Greta was going to get out one of those things.
03:46I was.
03:48It's my favourite show other than the paper.
03:50Here's just a very quick reminder of the engagement announcement that broke the internet.
03:55What is it? 35 million likes or something that photograph got.
03:58Oh my god.
03:59And is that the actual proposal?
04:01It is actually.
04:02So he really crushed it when it came to surprising me because we had actually filmed a podcast episode.
04:10He has a podcast called New Heights.
04:12Yeah.
04:13Oh yeah.
04:14Great.
04:15We've got some Americans.
04:16We've got.
04:17Yes.
04:18Fantastic.
04:19So we filmed the podcast for about three or four hours or whatever.
04:23And meanwhile behind his house he was having the whole back garden turned into this.
04:29Wow.
04:30And one of the things that he put in there very strategically was a wall of hedges that weren't there before.
04:37And inside the hedges was my tour photographer hiding in bushes that had not previously been there.
04:44It was.
04:45He went all out.
04:46Ten out of ten.
04:47Oh people are now going oh Jesus.
04:48I was going to propose this weekend.
04:50What's the point?
04:51That is amazing.
04:52Yeah.
04:53It's really fun that we actually have the exact moment.
04:57Yeah.
04:58Well congratulations to you.
04:59And Cillian Murphy, congratulations to you.
05:01You went and won an Oscar.
05:02Oh yeah.
05:03Last year.
05:04Cheers for that.
05:06This is a great core.
05:09You know exactly what I'm like.
05:10Cheers.
05:11Cheers.
05:12Congratulations.
05:13Cheers.
05:14Cheers.
05:15Cheers.
05:16Cheers.
05:17Cheers.
05:18Cheers.
05:19Cheers.
05:20Cheers.
05:21Cheers.
05:22That's a serious class.
05:23It's fantastic.
05:24Was it after that Oscar win that you then met Taylor Swift?
05:29Yeah we were at a party.
05:31I had the whole gang with my family and my kids.
05:35I didn't think my kids were legally allowed to be there really well.
05:38I mean I don't know but they were delightful.
05:41Your sons are the future of our world.
05:44Oh Lets diets.
05:45They were such great conversationalists.
05:47They were interesting and interested.
05:48And interested like that's the real accomplishment thinking they're here, aren't they? Yeah, one of them is here. Yeah
06:06He's not here they're hiding
06:18If this was a game show, we've all just won a prize
06:23And Joni Charlie Smith you're unusual I think in that you know that you've met Taylor Swift
06:29But you know why everyone's saying that I don't know remember where I met her because we were drunk
06:35It was at the gold party and I remember that no
06:40Was it at Madonna's party? It was at Madonna's party. I think it was a Beyonce's party
06:44I was at Beyonce's party, but I didn't meet you there. I mean you weren't at the Beyonce party
06:48We got a link up. We got to get the group chat going
06:50This is how I know it was at Madonna's party
06:52I've not been invited to any of these parties
06:55But I remember I remember that the gossip was incredible, but I don't remember what it was
07:01We were having a great night
07:03It was fantastic
07:05And don't know
07:06Hi, hi Dan
07:08No, no, no
07:10Thank you for having me
07:12I'll bet, I'll bet good money
07:14I'll bet good money, you know Cillian Murphy
07:18Not really, no
07:20Yes, yeah, yeah, one of my I mean like maybe my third or fourth filmed job was a was in a film that Cillian was the lead in and he was
07:27And I met you when I was like 19 doing my first job and he's always been amazing. Yeah an amazing actor amazing person
07:33Yeah, I met Donald when he was doing a Martin McDonough play in the West End the Broadway and he was like
07:38Magnetic back then
07:40Yeah
07:42I'm very cruel
07:44You should have seen him then
07:46Ever listen, we've got lots to talk about tonight, but let's start with the big one and Taylor Swift's new album for 12th is the life of a showgirl
07:54This is exciting
07:56Here it is
07:58This is the actual album
08:00And you've gone all out, look at the fold out
08:02Yeah, there's all kinds of stuff in there
08:04And this is cool the the album is the same color as the glittery
08:18Thank you for noticing
08:20Are they all like that?
08:22Or is this the collectors?
08:23They're all like that
08:24It's it's I love creating vinyls that are
08:28Completely unique inside and just doing different things. There's also a poem on the inside
08:32So it's a vinyl flap and there's different poems on each variant
08:38And if you know, I'm not going to tell about that, but they'll figure that out
08:42There's something about the poems. That's fun
08:44Oh, okay
08:46Yeah
08:47Please hold
08:48Yeah
08:49No, because I just got this so I haven't read the poem
08:52Now it's out today and it's kind of I mean you were writing these songs while the era's tour was going on
08:59Yes, I was writing it during the European leg which was last summer
09:03And it was actually like the craziest schedule that we had on the European tour like
09:07So I was more physically exhausted than usual because it was a three and a half hour show
09:12It's all in heels it was I was starting to sort of get sick and kind of worn down
09:18And so I thought I really need something to sort of spark up my imagination and creativity and hopefully that will fuel my physical exhaustion
09:26And it did because I would I would do like three shows and then I would fly to Sweden and make three songs and then do three shows
09:34And it was having that little like secret passion project behind the scenes that was that really helped me not ever hit a wall
09:41On that tour
09:43Wow
09:44So listen, we've got a little taste of the first single on the album at the fate of Ophelia here it is
09:51That was so good!
10:13I couldn't have liked it more
10:23You know what strikes me I remember you were on this show before and you were talking about how you write songs that are you know kind of in your wheelhouse
10:31They're easy for you to sing that song sounds like more of a stretch am I right or wrong?
10:37Yeah I think that I think it's a little bit harder to sing but I think the wheelhouse is a little bit of a bigger wheelhouse now that the arrows tour happened
10:43Like I'm a little bit like I think I could you know sort of do anything while running in heel
10:51I'm just sort of like it's given me the confidence to write like higher choruses and jump the octave and do falsetto stuff
10:57And like don't take a break for 35 seconds
10:59It's like I'm like I don't know
11:01I'm pretty sure I could do it now that I've done that tour
11:05So let's talk about some of the other tracks of the album
11:08Opalite is such an earworm
11:11Thank you
11:12It really is
11:13Thank you
11:14My dad is excited somewhere that's his favourite
11:16Oh great
11:17So obviously appeals to the dad's demographic
11:19No it doesn't it's also it's also
11:21Yeah this is great
11:23No it's my fiance's favourite too
11:25Oh okay
11:26Yeah but
11:27But opalite I think there's a beautiful idea behind the idea of opalite
11:32Yeah it's basically I become obsessed with certain phrases or words
11:36And one of the words on my long list was opalite because I learned that just like they can do man-made diamonds
11:42You can do man-made opals
11:44And it's called opalite
11:46And I just thought that that was such an interesting metaphor
11:50If you take it and you apply it to the fact that often times in life we have to make our own happiness
11:55It's not just there
11:56It's not just naturally in place
11:58We have to make our own happiness and get through life
12:01And it says like you had to make your own sunshine but now the sky is opalite
12:05And it's just basically like you are happy because you did that on your own
12:10It's kind of like fake yourself happy kind of thing
12:12Exactly fake it till you make it I do that all the time
12:14Yeah
12:15Honestly
12:16I believe you've done it really successfully
12:18Thank you
12:20You write the book
12:22And I mentioned the year is true I'm sure lots of people here were at that
12:27It was phenomenal it was so so good
12:34The thing that was and this is not a complaint Wow
12:38Yeah, I think that was Wembley that looks like Wembley
12:42Three and a half hours when did you know was it like opening night when you realized oh this is three and a half hours
12:48We tried so hard to get it to be shorter than that but that I just I just I wanted to over deliver
12:58You know I really wanted people to get more than they expected
13:02It just really felt like something that I had to do because I'm like I know these tickets are gonna be hard to get
13:08I didn't know how hard they would be to get
13:10Um and people are gonna like I don't know people have lives and priorities and if they're gonna dedicate
13:16Any part of those lives to coming to this big show to packing stadiums like this I want to over deliver on production
13:22Over deliver on the length of it the exertion the the the kind of surprises they're seeing
13:29And I'm really I'm endlessly proud of feeling like we achieved that
13:33Oh, you so did you really really did
13:41It was so lovely being in the stadium the atmosphere you knew that in that stadium have already been like 90,000 people
13:48Nothing bad was happening. No one was having a fight. There was no argy-bargy kicking off
13:53Everyone was having the loveliest time. It was the loveliest time
13:56Yeah, and people I would hear all these stories about people making friends
13:59Yeah, and the whole friendship bracelet thing was pretty beautiful too where people would make friendship bracelets
14:04And they would trade them with each other and they'd meet each other they are the friendship bracelets
14:08Yeah, and it was kind of the sweet thing that the fans did on their own
14:11We didn't like market this this wasn't like a thing that we did
14:15Or else I would have invested in beads
14:17Taylor, we'll talk some more as we go on
14:20Taylor, we'll talk some more as we go on
14:23But for the moment just a reminder that the album The Life of a Showgirl is out now
14:29Right
14:31Yes
14:32Again here, again here
14:34Killian Murphy
14:35Killian Murphy brings us an extraordinary new film
14:37It is called Steve
14:39It is in select cinemas and available globally on Netflix now
14:42And to give us a taste here's a bit of the trailer
14:46So they're asking everyone to describe themselves in three words
14:50Okay
14:51Very very tired
14:55Focused
14:57Cheeky
14:58Sex doll bastard
15:00Angry and bored
15:05These are extraordinarily complex young people
15:10Please tell me you know it's not alright to be out here at like breakfast time getting fully baked
15:14Steve you dick
15:17This is the thing you can't just casually call me a dick
15:23How you doing?
15:24I've been worried about you
15:28All I want for you is to just speak to us
15:30Because you're not alone shite
15:33How about you Steve?
15:35Let's talk about you
15:36Steve you can't do it all
15:37Okay, right, I'm here for you
15:38Perhaps there's a limit
15:39You don't know me
15:41Why do you fucking give a shit?
15:42I'm here for you
15:43Perhaps there's a limit
15:46You don't know me
15:49Why do you fucking give a shit?
15:57It really is an extraordinary film and brilliant performances in it
16:01And people might know Max Porter
16:04Yeah
16:05And this is based on his book Shy
16:06Yes
16:07Which apparently you read and thought that isn't filmable
16:10Yeah, Max and me are pals and he gave me the proof of the book
16:14I was very lucky to read it before it came out
16:16And it's like a beautiful compassionate piece of work
16:19But it's all inside of Shy's head
16:22It's like a stream of consciousness from you know inside of his character's head
16:26And I thought like well some books shouldn't be adapted
16:29And then we were like we'd made two pieces of work together
16:33And then we thought we were trying to figure out what next to do next
16:36And then he had this brilliant idea to kind of spin the story on its axis
16:41And to kind of adapt the world of the book rather than the book itself
16:44So there was this minor character in it who was Steve
16:47And he kind of began to show the
16:50It all happens over 24 hours
16:52And we had to show like the you know what happens over that day
16:55Through Steve's eyes and then overlay it with Shy's experience
16:59And who is Steve?
17:00So Steve I guess is a very overworked underpaid
17:04Quite broken trying to do the right thing
17:07Headmaster of a kind of reform school in the 90s in Britain
17:11And it's interesting you decided to keep it in the 90s
17:14Yeah
17:15Why did you decide to not bring it to now?
17:17I mean well there's a few reasons
17:19The music was so good then
17:22And like Max is obsessed with drum and bass
17:27And he wrote the book listen to drum and bass
17:29And I was 20 in 96
17:32My kids and Aaron he's like 18 now
17:35So and also we could tell a story where we didn't have to deal with
17:38Smartphones and the internet and all that
17:40Yeah yeah yeah yeah
17:41And you talk about music in this film
17:43Yeah
17:44Kind of 90s drum and bass
17:45Yeah
17:46Was that your because you took music very seriously
17:48Was that your music?
17:49It I love drum and bass
17:51I always found it really difficult to dance to
17:53To do you know there's a lot going on
17:55It's very thrashing
17:56Yeah it's all that polyrhythms in it
17:58I could never I was never that guy
18:00No
18:01But but I I did listen to it and yeah
18:04But but when I say you took your music seriously
18:06You were in a band and not just you know and often people were in bands
18:10Did you got a five album deal?
18:12What?
18:13Well yeah technically we did yeah
18:16Yeah
18:17What does that mean?
18:18I mean
18:19Yeah we were kids and we got offered this record deal
18:23I don't know why I'm telling you
18:25No I'm not
18:26I'm not
18:27I'm not
18:28So enjoy your chart success
18:30It could have been me
18:31Five albums is too long a term
18:33Yeah I thought it was too long a term
18:35So just sign us up young for five albums
18:37That's it
18:38That was part of it
18:39Because my brother's in the band and he was only 18
18:41My parents were like no
18:42Oh is that was it was your parents
18:43Because I got
18:44Because normally you would pick like the first bit of success you find
18:47You cling on to it
18:48But you turned it down
18:50Well it was they wouldn't let him they wouldn't let him ruin his life
18:53So they allowed me to go and potentially ruin
18:56But then we all just disbanded and it didn't happen
18:58And this was Mr. Green Jeans
19:00Sons of Mr. Green Jeans
19:01Sons of Mr. Green Jeans
19:02Yeah
19:03We've got a picture of you here
19:04Now is that the bus station in Cork?
19:06Wow
19:07That's the bus station in Cork City
19:08Oh yeah I thought it was
19:09I don't know
19:10That's fantastic
19:11That's fantastic
19:12They're good
19:13I mean
19:14I don't know
19:15Is that building still there anymore?
19:16It is yeah
19:17Cork people might not
19:18It is?
19:19It is yeah
19:20Is that lovely old
19:21That I don't know
19:22I haven't been inside for some time
19:23Don't get the bus anymore
19:24Who do you think I am?
19:27And actually talking of you
19:29Greta
19:30Huh?
19:31You were in a band
19:32Oh really?
19:33Uh huh
19:34What?
19:35No you were
19:36You took music really seriously
19:37I did
19:38Yeah
19:39So Killian and Taylor
19:41I am also a musician
19:43Well no we've got an adorable
19:45I want to know more
19:46This isn't quite a radio tour
19:49But it's kind of there
19:50You're very young
19:51And you're doing a gig
19:52Is this a shopping mall you're in?
19:54Yeah
19:55Now here you are
19:56How old are you here?
19:57Oh my god
19:58Yes
19:59I think I was 11
20:01Wow
20:02And I'm singing
20:03You can see the Vocal Power Institute
20:05Yes
20:06I'm in front of Mervyn's
20:08Um
20:09In a
20:10In a mall
20:11That's incredible
20:12Is it Christmas time?
20:13Uh
20:14I hope so
20:15For that answer
20:16But it just
20:18Doesn't look like there's any Christmas decorations or anything
20:20Yeah
20:21You look like you're dressed in the French Resistance
20:23Yeah I know
20:24Great outfits
20:25Great outfits are
20:26They've been happening since
20:27For a long time
20:28I think I was doing a cover of New York, New York
20:31Um
20:32Which is also
20:33It all makes sense
20:34It's amazing
20:35We were in LA
20:36It's Christmas for only one person
20:38And there I am
20:40So
20:41Again
20:42What happened to that dream?
20:43Uh
20:44What do you mean?
20:45Well
20:46No that's
20:47That's just what I'm doing
20:51Uh
20:52Aspiring
20:53I'm here to announce my
20:54Uh
20:55My album
20:56Yeah
20:57Taylor didn't know that there's some competition
21:05Yeah
21:06Yeah
21:07It's the past life of a showgirl
21:08Yeah
21:09Yeah
21:10Exactly
21:11A Christmas album
21:12That nobody wanted
21:14Spectacular event
21:15Well look at you now
21:16Our next movie tonight is Greta Lee and Jodie Turner Smith together in the new Disney blockbuster Tron Aries
21:23It's in cinemas from the 10th of October that is next Friday
21:27So a lot of people
21:28Yeah
21:29Love Tron
21:30Yes
21:31The previous two Tron films
21:32Thank God
21:33So what's happening in the Tron world now?
21:35Take it away somebody
21:36Hey
21:37Normally
21:38You know
21:39Normally this is about like humans are always going into the grid right
21:41You
21:42That iconic first film 1982
21:44Some of us weren't born yet
21:46But
21:47You know Jeff Bridges
21:50Goes into the grid
21:51He goes into the computer which was so
21:53And it was also the 1982 film was the first time that any film had computer generated images
21:59Which at the time was absolutely they were like this is not filmmaking
22:02Yeah
22:03They were disqualified from the Oscars that year
22:05Because it was considered cheating to use computers
22:07Really?
22:08Yeah
22:09To use special effects
22:10So it really changed the face of our business as well
22:12So it's like incredibly iconic
22:13Yeah
22:14And then the second film was called by Daft Punk
22:17Again just like visually so incredible
22:19And now
22:20We are coming out of the grid into the real world
22:24Sweet Jesus
22:25That's what's happening
22:26And by we I mean me
22:28We've got a clip
22:30This is the two of you as Eva and Athena
22:32And
22:33I'm sensing here that you don't get along
22:38Time to get back to the grid
22:39Leave it alone
22:40Leave it alone
22:41Move it alone
22:42Move it alone
22:43Move it alone
22:45Move it
22:46Move it
22:47Move it
22:48Move it
22:49Move it
22:50Move it
22:51Move it
22:52Move it
22:53Move it
22:54Move it
22:55Move it
22:56Move it
22:57Move it
22:58Move it
22:59Move it
23:00Move it
23:01Move it

23:16Move it
23:17Move it
23:18Move it
23:19Move it
23:20Move it
23:21Move it
23:22Move it
23:23Move it
23:24Move it
23:25Move it
23:26Anything.
23:28And, Greta, you, you know, you kick ass in this film, so you decide you were going to get in shape for this film.
23:36Actually, I was reminded of something.
23:38Taylor, I had heard that there's something you do to prepare for your tours.
23:44It's horrible.
23:46Treadmill, while singing.
23:48No way.
23:49Yeah, yeah.
23:50It's one of the worst things I did.
23:51For three and a half hours.
23:52It worked, but it's incredibly...
23:54It didn't work for me.
23:55Oh, my goodness.
23:57I tried that and failed.
23:59And it's...
24:01I don't think it's a spoiler, but there's a...
24:03I have to run a lot in this movie.
24:05And there's a difference between, you know, an athlete...
24:08I have to play a human person who is running for their life.
24:12So, when you read a script, you have to pay attention for things like running for your life, running, and how many times that appears in a script.
24:21Yeah, yeah.
24:22Yeah.
24:23Because, actually, that's tiring.
24:25It is.
24:26And you can do all the things to train and prepare, and we certainly did to get into top physical form to do this movie.
24:36And we got all the trainers.
24:38I had, you know, the guy who trains Brad Pitt, all the Chris's and me.
24:43All the Chris's and you.
24:45Yes.
24:46That's so good.
24:47Wow.
24:48And, you know, former ex-Navy seal.
24:50And then we realised, because you were also doing your thing, and we looked good.
24:56I'm in my 40s.
24:57I had abs for the first time ever.
25:00Wow.
25:01Nice.
25:03OK.
25:04Shout out to Al.
25:05However, we realised none of it would be shown.
25:10We were covered head to toe.
25:12Deeply upsetting.
25:13Yes.
25:14And I even, I mean, all that hard work, can you imagine?
25:18I mean, with the Chris's and like...
25:20Sometimes it's OK to objectify women, OK?
25:22Yes.
25:23But I, it genuinely was so upsetting after our first fittings, our light suit fittings.
25:30We, I even pitched to the director a fight scene where our characters could tear each other's clothes off.
25:40And strategically sort of like rip Athena's stomach.
25:44Can you show the work?
25:45Can you show three of the abs?
25:47Please.
25:48I didn't go for it, unfortunately.
25:49I didn't.
25:50And this was not about sex, this was strictly vanity.
25:52Yeah.
25:53I am working so hard.
25:55So hard.
25:56Someone see this eight pack.
25:58Yeah.
25:59But now you know, so at least there's someone in the head.
26:02You got the word out.
26:07You guys know, right?
26:08Yeah.
26:11But Donald, you have been through the physical rigors of big fantasy movies and things,
26:16because you were in Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Black Mirror.
26:21Now, Black Mirror, you really suffered from that.
26:23That was crazy.
26:24Yeah.
26:25Thank you, Taylor.
26:26Sorry, that was it now.
26:27Thank you, Taylor.
26:28It was crazy.
26:29I thought about that for months.
26:30So good.
26:31So did I.
26:32I really liked that one.
26:33It was shocking.
26:34Yeah.
26:35So basically, this was Channel 4 Black Mirror.
26:37This is before it went to Netflix and got the big bucks.
26:39Oh.
26:40So this was quite low budget.
26:41And I am in it at the beginning and then my character dies.
26:44And then he comes back as a sort of a replicant of himself.
26:47And the decision was made away from me that he should, he appears for the first time from the bathroom naked.
26:52And the decision was made by somebody else that he should be also hairless from the neck down.
26:59And I was like, sci-fi baby.
27:01I mean, how are we going to go about this?
27:03And I just got back to my trailer at lunchtime and there was a chicken salad and an electric razor.
27:07It was the saddest lunch I've ever had.
27:16Yeah.
27:17And I probably had an eight pack but I can't remember.
27:20Yeah, yeah.
27:21And now, Killian, you are such a big fan of Tron.
27:25Tell us what you did.
27:26Oh, yes.
27:27I asked to be in the Tron.
27:30Which one was it?
27:31The one.
27:32Legacy.
27:33Legacy, yeah.
27:34Yeah.
27:35So I was in that briefly.
27:36I did like one day in it.
27:37Yes.
27:38Wow.
27:39Because I was such a big fan.
27:40Uncle Dillinger here.
27:41Oh, is that who I was?
27:43You are the...
27:44It was a long time.
27:47Well done for knowing, Ray.
27:48I know, well done for knowing.
27:49That's who you are in the family tree, you know.
27:52And then, Taylor, am I right?
27:54I think the video for Bad Blood, the bit...
27:57Is a bit of that a Tron reference?
27:59Yeah, we made a little reference to it.
28:01I did a music video for the song Bad Blood with Joseph Kahn.
28:04Yes, with Jessica Alba.
28:05Yeah, Jessica Alba.
28:06Yeah.
28:07She had one of the...
28:08We've got a clip.
28:09Oh, my God.
28:10This is a little clip of you doing your Tron.
28:11Oh, cool.
28:12Oh, yeah.
28:13Yes.
28:14It's giving Athena.
28:15Right?
28:16Look how...
28:17She's so amazing.
28:19Wow.
28:20Hey.
28:21I think they might have based Athena off of this music video.
28:22Because I'm looking at it and I'm like, wait a minute.
28:23It might have based Athena off of this music video.
28:24It would be an honour.
28:25Yeah, that was one of my favourite directors to work with, Joseph Kahn.
28:26And Taylor, we should celebrate because, of course, you now own that video.
28:29Yes!
28:30Yes!
28:31Yes!
28:32Yes!
28:33Yes!
28:34Yes!
28:35Yes!
28:36Yes!
28:37Yes!
28:38Yes!
28:39Yes!
28:40Yes!
28:41Yes!
28:42Yes!
28:43Yes!
28:44Yes!
28:45Yes!
28:46Yes!
28:47Yes!
28:48Yes!
28:49Yes!
28:50Yes!
28:51Yes!
28:52Yes!
28:53Yes!
28:54Yes!
28:55Yes!
28:56Yes!
28:57Yes!
28:58Okay, so basically my big long lifelong dream came true recently which was that I was able
29:08to buy all of my music, all of my music videos, the artwork, the album covers, it's everything.
29:20Your entire catalogue and thankfully they didn't split it up first, they didn't sell
29:24it off, sell the music videos to these people, the album artwork to these people.
29:28This album, thankfully it was all still one acquisition, but thank you to everyone who
29:35came to the Heiress tour, that's why I was able to make that happen.
29:40But I love the story because you imagine, it's so fucking cool, I'm sorry.
29:44It's crazy to still talk about.
29:45It's so cool, thank you.
29:47And you know, you've changed the business by what you've done.
29:53I mean, this is so cool.
29:55Thank you, I feel exactly the same way.
29:58You're just like...
29:59But I love that everyone's so pleased for you.
30:02I'm so happy for you.
30:03I made it everyone's problem is the thing.
30:05It's like, you know, I have this policy where I do not respond to rage baiting, people who
30:12want to try to provoke me in a multitude of ways, I don't respond to stuff.
30:19But this pissed me off so much that I did say what was going on in my life, which was that
30:26all of the music I had made for my first six albums was sold out from under me.
30:30I had been trying to buy them for a very long time.
30:33I didn't think I should be given them.
30:35I know that they're worth money.
30:36I wanted to buy them at a premium, was willing to, was never given the opportunity to.
30:41And so I ended up re-recording and re-releasing four of those six albums.
30:47Yes.
30:48And I think that that was a huge part of why I was able to get them back.
30:51The fans really got behind them and championed this entire cause.
30:54I could not be more grateful.
30:55I still can't believe it happened.
30:56It's, it's the craziest thing ever.
30:58And thank you for bringing that up and for caring about it.
31:01But I like, I like the idea that this, you know, you bought it, you bought it all back
31:08from a big kind of corporate entity.
31:10And you imagine that there'd be an army of lawyers talking to another army of lawyers,
31:13but that is not how it went down.
31:14No, I sent in my mom and my brother.
31:16Were you on the phone?
31:21Were you on the phone?
31:22No, no.
31:23I, so basically it was, my music was owned by a company called Shamrock Capital.
31:29We had to try to figure out how to convince them to sell a very lucrative entity to us,
31:36even though it was still making them loads of money.
31:38Yeah.
31:39And so I was like, the only people for the job are the people who have known me my entire life,
31:43who know this entire journey I've been on, who have been supporting me and who I work with every day.
31:48They both work with me and they are like the smartest people I know.
31:52And also the most compassionate, the kindest, the people who could tell the story of what we've been through as a family.
31:58So they went in and they got my music back for me.
32:03Very good.
32:09By the end of the night, Jodie and me are going to be gossiping on occasion.
32:11You know what I heard about him.
32:14Girl, I heard that same thing but worse.
32:16I think we started there actually before.
32:18Yeah, yeah, yeah.
32:19I was like, girl.
32:20Listen, we move on to Donald Gleeson's latest work.
32:22It's a very funny new sitcom.
32:23It's called The Paper.
32:25Yeah.
32:26All episodes are streaming on...
32:27Yeah.
32:29Cheers, everybody.
32:30Cheers.
32:31Cheers.
32:32Cheers.
32:33Cheers.
32:34Thank you very much.
32:35Cheers.
32:36Cheers.
32:38All episodes are streaming on Sky and Now.
32:40And now, this show, people have heard about it, they know that it is related in some way to the American office.
32:47Yes.
32:48Discuss.
32:49Discuss, you said?
32:50Well, tell us.
32:51At length.
32:52Yeah.
32:53Go on.
32:54Basically, it's the documentary crew from the American office.
32:56Yeah.
32:57All these years later go looking for Dunder Mifflin, which was the paper company that they all worked in.
33:01And they kind of run out of road but end up in this place in the Midwest, a place called Toledo, Ohio.
33:06And they find an old sort of newspaper that's fallen on hard times.
33:11A local newspaper.
33:12And it's really not doing well.
33:14And they're sharing half the floor with a toilet paper company who are doing way better than them.
33:19And just as they arrive to film this newspaper, a new editor-in-chief arrives who really wants to make them a great paper again.
33:28Because they're really bad.
33:30And he wants to make them matter.
33:33We've got a clip.
33:35This is you trying to impress your new bosses.
33:38Marv and some of his team are working on this floor while his offices are being painted.
33:43Which means he can see everything that we're doing.
33:46We're enjoying this meeting.
33:47Everyone's sort of nodding, nodding a little bit.
33:49Okay.
33:50Yes.
33:51Right.
33:52Yes, I am actively agreeing with you.
33:53Now, you act like you came up with another good idea.
33:54Put up your hand.
33:55Put up your hand.
33:56Yes.
33:57I don't know.
33:58Yes, yes, yes.
33:59That is a great idea.
34:00I'm gonna write that down.
34:01Does that look like I'm writing it down?
34:02Yeah.
34:03Good.
34:04Good.
34:05I just have a real meeting.
34:06Now, Adalola, you're pointing.
34:07You're pointing.
34:08And everyone's nodding.
34:09And I am agreeing.
34:10And Barry, you stand up.
34:11You stand up.
34:12I think everyone's nodding now.
34:14We're all nodding at Barry.
34:15Yes.
34:16Now, Detrick, you're gonna jump out of your chair with enthusiasm.
34:17You're gonna high-five Oscar.
34:18Go.
34:19Yes.
34:20And...
34:21Oh!
34:22Fantastic.
34:23Fantastic.
34:24And we're clapping.
34:25We're clapping.
34:26And we're thumbs-upping.
34:27We're thumbs-upping and we're nodding.
34:28Feel the energy.
34:29And we're smiling.
34:30It's probably, probably funny.
34:31And I heard you talking about, as an actor, how weird it is to then be in a kind of mockumentary.
34:47That's hard as an actor.
34:48Oh, yeah.
34:49You spend your life being told not to look straight down the lens.
34:51And somebody will scold you if you do that.
34:54And they have to scrap the take and then all of a sudden you're on a job.
34:57And they're encouraging you to look down the lens more and kind of have a real relationship
35:01with the camera, which is part of what made the UK office great and made the US office
35:06great.
35:07And I think it's part of this.
35:08The people...
35:09Everyone does it in a different way.
35:10It's kind of really cool.
35:11Is it something you had to learn, if you know what I mean?
35:12Oh, yeah.
35:13I was terrible at it.
35:14Yeah, yeah.
35:15I wasn't doing it enough.
35:16And Chelsea, who was in it, who's fantastic, plays Mare.
35:18They told her after like three episodes, you need to stop looking at the camera so much.
35:21And they told me, you need to look at the camera a lot more.
35:24Yeah.
35:25She was magnetic in that show.
35:26I just thought...
35:27I love that.
35:28I love that show.
35:29I want to say too, I'm so happy it's coming back and his character is like...
35:31It's so good.
35:32The loveliest, most romanticizing character.
35:35He like romanticizes his life.
35:37And it's really sweet and beautiful.
35:39And also, I don't think that you just sound American.
35:41You seem American.
35:42I know.
35:43Your accent is so good.
35:44You are American.
35:45You have to leave that in the show.
35:46Skyrocket.
35:47Thank you, Taylor Swift very, very much.
35:49Can I also say it's just worth watching for Donald's dancing alone.
36:01Oh, my God.
36:02Yes, absolutely.
36:03What?
36:04Yes.
36:05I'm hoping to get in the Taylor Swift music video.
36:07Yeah.
36:08There you go.
36:09Yeah.
36:10Did you...
36:11Have you always been able to do the American accent?
36:12Yeah, why is it so good?
36:13Oh, good.
36:14Wow.
36:16That's very nice.
36:17I'm terrible at accents normally and I've worked really hard on that, so I'm happy it
36:20worked.
36:25This is the first time you've ever lived in L.A.
36:27You moved to L.A. for this.
36:29Yeah, I was over there for like four or five months.
36:31I was over there.
36:32Tim Key was also over there.
36:33He's a fantastic actor, a very funny man.
36:35So, yeah, there's a few of us away from home on that.
36:38It was amazing because you're like working in an old, like the old studio, like Universal Studios,
36:42and you go in past the fake New York street and all the rest of it and then every morning you're going to work in this place where they've built an office.
36:49It was beautiful.
36:50And the good news is you can stay in L.A. because, am I right, it's been recommissioned.
36:54Yes, it's season two.
36:55Yeah, yeah, yeah.
36:56Thank you very much.
36:57Thank you very much.
36:59Yeah.
37:00Very nice.
37:01Yeah, yeah, we're really happy about it.
37:02Yeah.
37:03So, I think we go back January or February, we go back and we do another season.
37:06Yeah.
37:07Listen, also returning is Pinky Blinders, Killian.
37:10So, there's a movie.
37:14Yeah.
37:15So, is the movie done or...?
37:17Yeah.
37:18So, it's done.
37:19And now, here's the thing, I love the fact that Pinky Blinders was so successful that that haircut, Tommy's haircut in the early series, it kind of took off.
37:26Yeah.
37:27It became like, you know, it became a thing.
37:28Yeah.
37:29I mean, it's so disgusting, really.
37:30But it's everywhere.
37:31Yeah, but you know, the story behind that is, it's to prevent lice infestation.
37:39Wait, what?
37:40How?
37:41Because if you have no hair, the lice can't.
37:43But there's still all that up on top.
37:45They know what that is up there.
37:46But maybe they can't even know how to travel.
37:48Oh, my God.
37:49You get, like, a 60% better chance of not getting them, I guess.
37:52Yeah.
37:53Dr. Donal, I mean, yeah.
37:54I'm in my trailer just doing the thing.
37:56Yeah, Donal.
37:57That's amazing.
37:58And when is the movie going to be in the world?
38:00Next year.
38:01Next year.
38:02Okay.
38:03All right.
38:04And because you're here, Taylor, I've got to ask you, is next year the wedding year?
38:10Is that when it's happening?
38:11Oh, you'll know.
38:15So you're going big.
38:16I just mean that I was going to invite you to it.
38:22I've got to go.
38:25If you're inviting me, it's very big.
38:27It's huge.
38:31I think I can see Taylor.
38:36Well, I'm sure it'll be if I were to stay.
38:38Are you in the middle of planning it all now?
38:40No.
38:41I just am doing the album thing now, which is a big thing.
38:44Yes.
38:45And then I think the wedding is what happens after that in the scheme of the planning.
38:52But I'm really, you know, I'm so excited about it.
38:55I'm just, like, I know it's going to be fun to plan.
38:59Because I think the only stressful weddings are the ones where you have a small amount and people are on the bubble.
39:06Yeah.
39:07Right?
39:08Yes.
39:09And you have to evaluate or assess your relationship with them.
39:12Yeah.
39:13To see if they should be there.
39:14Yeah.
39:15I'm not going to do that.
39:16OK.
39:17This is why you're invited.
39:18Anyone I've ever talked to.
39:19Thanks, Greta.
39:20Yeah.
39:21Thanks, Greta.
39:22There's no bubble.
39:23You'll be there.
39:24Please.
39:25I'll take it.
39:26No, it's like, oh, we had to have hung out eight times.
39:28Yeah, yeah.
39:29It's like you're on the bubble.
39:30Yeah.
39:31We've hung out five times.
39:32You know what I mean?
39:33We don't have to think about it.
39:34It's going to be fun.
39:35I shouldn't have said any of that.
39:37Well, listen, seriously, we just wish you all the best.
39:41Thank you so much.
39:42And have a lovely, lovely day.
39:43Thanks.
39:44OK, Gary Taylor Swift.
39:47It's exciting.
39:48It's exciting.
39:51Right, it is time for music.
39:52This great Scott has had six UK number one singles,
39:56including his latest release, Survive,
39:58which became the fastest selling single in the UK this year.
40:02Here performing his new single, Something in the Heavens,
40:05it is Lewis Capaldi.
40:17Eyes of emerald and white,
40:20More precious than gold.
40:26Hands as soft as the sand,
40:28But harder to hold.
40:30Tonight could be the last time,
40:35Your heart beating mine,
40:38Wherever this close.
40:40Life can cut like a knife,
40:44That's just how it goes.
40:46But till the day I die,
40:49Till the day I die,
40:52I will dream of you,
40:55In a million lines,
40:59You're the one I choose.
41:04I'll love you,
41:07Till my last breath.
41:08You're gone, but,
41:09Something in the Heavens,
41:10That's me that will be together again.
41:11I'll see you,
41:13Around the bed.
41:14You're gone, but,
41:15Something in the Heavens,
41:17That's me that will be together again.
41:19I'll see you,
41:20Around the bed.
41:21You're gone, but,
41:23Something in the Heavens,
41:24That's me that will be together again.
41:25I'll see you,
41:27Around the bed.
41:28Around the bed.
41:33You're gone, but,
41:36Something in the Heavens,
41:38That's me that will be together again.
41:44Sounds of gathering clouds,
41:47Are all that I hear.
41:52Just days of permanent grave,
41:55Since you disappeared,
41:58Until the day I die,
42:03I will dream of you,
42:07In a million lines,
42:11You're the one I choose.
42:18I'll love you,
42:22Till my last breath.
42:26You're gone, but,
42:29Something in the Heavens,
42:31That's me that will be together again.
42:34I'll see you,
42:38Around the bed.
42:43You're gone, but,
42:46Something in the Heavens,
42:48That's me that will be together again.
42:51Together again.
42:53Together again.
42:54Together again.
43:03Something in the Heavens,
43:04That's me that will be together again.

44:10Nice to see you.
44:11Fuck.
44:12It's good to be back.
44:13Lovely to have you back.
44:16You...
44:17Now, you know Donal, don't you?
44:19We met...
44:20I stood behind you.
44:21I stood in front of you.
44:22And I admired your back.
44:24For a Fontaine's DC gig.
44:26Yeah, that's right.
44:27In New York.
44:28I kept on asking if you and your friends wanted to stand in front of us.
44:31You're the most conscientious tall man I've ever met in my life.
44:33Thank you very much.
44:34Yeah, that was lovely.
44:35Good times.
44:36And do you know anyone else on the couch?
44:38I've met Taylor before, and I've met you before Jodie, obviously, as well.
44:42On this very so far.
44:43Oh, OK.
44:44Don't you remember?
44:45Do you remember?
44:46Heavily pregnant.
44:47Yeah, and I swore, and I apologised to your baby bump.
44:50You did.
44:51I've often wondered if your child's first word was, I don't know, cunt.
44:55I wondered if it would be that too.
44:56Thankfully it was Mama.
44:57Thank you, good, good, good, good.
44:58That was probably the three years of breast milk I think of now.
44:59Leave it.
45:00Now, er...
45:01The song is beautiful.
45:02Oh, thank you very much.
45:03It's so gorgeous.
45:04It's like an angel.
45:05Thank you, stop it.
45:06Oh my God.
45:07I've got this single here, something in the heavens, but it's from an upcoming EP.
45:21Er, yeah.
45:22I was told I wasn't allowed to talk about it.
45:24Oh.
45:25What?
45:26By who?
45:27What am I?
45:28Fuck it, yeah, it's coming out.
45:30Oh, yeah, it's called Survive, and it's coming out later in the year.
45:37Fantastic.
45:38Yeah, thank you very much.
45:39There's two songs.
45:40You're singing like a canary.
45:41Yeah.
45:42We all are tonight.
45:43Yeah.

45:53Songs.
45:54You know what I mean?
45:55I'm excited about it.
45:56Yeah.
45:57Well, it was.
45:58It was so gorgeous when that triumphant returned to Glastonbury, which was just...
46:02It made everyone so happy.
46:03It's got the same outfit on.
46:08The identical outfit.
46:09You've very graciously pointed out and we're in the exact same fucking thing.
46:18If it's not broke, I don't...
46:20If it looks good, yeah.
46:21If it looks okay, let's wear it again.
46:24And I hope you don't mind me bringing this up, because I don't know.
46:27I hope you don't mind me bringing this up, because I think people should know this.
46:29You took...
46:30Between Glastonbury's, it was 734 days off.
46:33Yeah.
46:34And you did an amazing thing.
46:36Tell the people what you did.
46:38We...
46:39Yes.
46:40We partnered with BetterHelp.
46:41They'll be glad that I'm saying their name on this programme.
46:44And we...
46:45Yeah.
46:46We partnered with BetterHelp and we gave...
46:47To give out 730,000 hours of free therapy to people.
46:50Wow.
46:51Isn't that amazing?
46:52Yeah.
46:53Very...
46:54It's such an amazing thing to have done.
46:56Yeah.
46:57Yeah.
46:58Yeah.
46:59There's a lot...
47:00There's a lot of mentally ill people out there, Graham, and they need my help.
47:03But...
47:04No, but it's serious.
47:05That's a serious amount of time to donate.
47:07Yes.
47:08And...
47:09Listen.
47:10I hope people use it.
47:11And therapy's been a big thing for me and getting like...
47:13You know, getting back to this position and getting back to a place where I can feel comfortable
47:17enough to come and do this stuff.
47:18And obviously it's not accessible in some people, you know, different people's situations.
47:24So we want to try and give, you know, just give back to the people.
47:29You know?
47:30No, seriously.
47:31I know you're amazing.
47:32Well done.
47:33You've also...
47:34Talking of people, you've got to see a lot of them because you've got your tour coming
47:41up.
47:42Yeah.
47:43You've got a lot of it sold out and the ones that aren't are all new dates.
47:45Yes.
47:46Well, this is...
47:47I'm glad you said that.
47:48You can see it says sold out, sold out, sold out, new date, new date.
47:51If you notice there's like space next to Leeds.
47:53And I would like to use this moment if I can speak from the heart, Killian.
47:58Can I look into the camera and speak to the people at Leeds?
48:02One of those over there, yeah.
48:03Which one?

48:25I don't know.
48:27Yeah, it's all going really well except from that pocket of the country which
48:31seems to hit my fucking gut.
48:33Well, we don't.
