00:00All right, what do you say, Mr. President?
00:03Five. You want to open briefcase number five?
00:06No, I'm saying a lot of these women are fives.
00:09President Donald Trump played Deal or No Deal over the weekend in a bid to
00:13broker a new deal for the border security budget. Well, that's not entirely true,
00:17although Alec Baldwin's Trump did play a fictitious version of the game show as part
00:21of SNL's cold open over the weekend. Kenan Thompson played Steve Harvey in the sketch,
00:26replacing Howie Mandel as host.
00:28We decided to do this in the only format that you can understand.
00:32A TV game show with women holding briefcases.
00:36Also appearing in the sketch were Kate McKinnon as Nancy Pelosi,
00:40Alex Moffat as Senator Chuck Schumer,
00:42Beck Bennett as Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell,
00:44Melissa Velasenor as Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez,
00:48and Leslie Jones appeared as Representative Maxine Waters.
00:51Additionally, Egon Wodum appeared as Cardi B,
00:54who recently posted about the government shutdown on Instagram.
00:57The episode overall was hosted by Rachel Brosnahan, fresh off her Golden Globe win for
01:02The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and who had the honor of hosting the very first SNL episode of 2019
01:08with musical guest Greta Van Fleet.
01:10In her first sketch, Brosnahan appeared as a doctor in a bit about a government building affected by an earthquake,
01:27resulting in the injuries of a bunch of people who were waiting to fill out paperwork to change their names.
01:33Brosnahan, as a doctor, read out a list of names who had been at the building at the time of the earthquake.
01:38Siblings Gary, Larry and Mary Potter, Taco Bell, Ivan Jurgenov, Pedophilia.
01:48Brosnahan also appeared on a game show called Millennial Millions alongside SNL cast member Pete Davidson,
01:54where they were challenged by tests such as listening to a baby boomer complain for 30 seconds
01:59without interrupting to win health insurance and Social Security.
02:02So, of course, I'm taking the Social Security.
02:05I'm sorry, I can't. You're taking the Social Security? Bitch, you are rich!
02:11And during Weekend Update, there was a very brief mention of R. Kelly and the allegations
02:15that have continued to mount against him, particularly since the premiere of the Lifetime
02:19docuseries, Surviving R. Kelly.
02:22Speaking about the government shutdown, which was mentioned throughout Saturday's episode,
02:26Weekend Update co-host Colin Jost said,
02:28These protections he's offering aren't even real laws. They're just vague promises he's making.
02:33And I trust a promise from Donald Trump about as much as I trust R. Kelly in a Claire's boutique.
02:38Also on Weekend Update, Pete Davidson dropped by with John Mulaney, where Mulaney,
02:43who used to be the head writer for SNL, explained that he and Davidson had been spending a lot
02:47of time together so that he could show Davidson that you can have a life in comedy
02:52that's not insane, a sober, domestic life. To which Davidson quipped,
02:57Yeah, and after observing John's life, I publicly threatened suicide.
03:02The joke was made in relation to an Instagram post Davidson had made in December,
03:07alluding to his suicidal thoughts, but which he later deleted.
