00:00So is Oprah running for president? That is what many are asking and some are hoping for after
00:11Oprah Winfrey delivered a rousing speech during Sunday night's Golden Globes where she became
00:16the first black woman to receive the Cecil B. DeMille award. She earned three standing ovations,
00:21resurrecting talk that she is eyeing a 2020 presidential run. The moment was the most
00:25talked about of the evening with Monday morning news shows debating the chances that Winfrey will
00:30actually run. On CNN Newsroom, pundits discussed the chances of a Winfrey Joe Biden ticket.
00:36The idea of a Winfrey candidacy was in the air from the night's opening monologue when Globe's
00:40host Seth Meyers joked that when he called Donald Trump unqualified to be president during the White
00:45House Correspondents' Dinner in 2011, his jab may have convinced the mogul to run.
00:49So if that's true, I just want to say, Oprah, you will never be president!
00:55You do not have what it takes!
00:58In her speech, Winfrey directly addressed the current climate and projected a time when
01:02nobody ever has to say, me too, again.
01:05So I want all the girls watching here and now to know that a new day is on the horizon!
01:13Judging from Twitter's reaction and the response from some of his fellow TV critics, THR's
01:18Daniel Feinberg wrote,
01:20I'd wager that a Winfrey-McDormand ticket with promised cabinet-level positions for Natalie Portman,
01:24Barbra Streisand and Viola Davis would probably scoop up around 90 percent of the vote in the
01:29greater Los Angeles area. But he warns, of course, it was this time last year when it looked possible
01:34that Meryl Streep might be simultaneously elected president, senator and pope, all off the momentum
01:39of her own Golden Globe speech.
01:42Winfrey has previously denied that she plans to run for office, but after the evening refueled
01:46the conversation, her longtime partner Stenman Graham told the LA Times, it's up to the people,
01:50she would absolutely do it.
01:52When asked about the viral moment herself, Winfrey 2020 was trending on Twitter,
01:56Winfrey gave a quick dismissal about running to Bloomberg.
01:59NBC, which aired the award shows, tweeted a gif of Winfrey with the caption,
02:03The post left many on Twitter confused, while others questioned NBC's ability to be
02:10nonpartisan after the tweet.
02:12Among the critics, Donald Trump Jr. shared NBC's tweet early Monday morning, writing,
02:16In case anyone had any doubts about where the media stands, this should take care of it.
02:20The bias against Donald Trump is now so obvious they have simply given up hiding it.
02:25Can you trust anything they say at this point?
02:27NBC deleted the tweet early Monday morning around 7.30 a.m. Pacific time, saying the post
02:32was sent out by a third party and not meant to be a political statement.
02:36The tweet was sent out by a third party agency for NBC Entertainment in real time during the
02:41live broadcast, said a spokesperson in a statement on Monday.
02:44It is in reference to a joke made during the opening monologue and not meant to be a
02:48political statement. We have since removed the tweet.
