00:10On Your Parade, posted to her Instagram giving her fans insight into the distressing reason
00:15behind her sudden withdrawal from the spotlight after releasing her second album endlessly
00:19in 2010 and promising a more detailed interview to come.
00:23And now, in a lengthy post on her official website, the singer for the first time shared
00:27the details of her traumatic abduction and rape ordeal that led to her disappearance from
00:31public view.
00:32In the post that was linked to her Instagram, the Grammy-winning artist wrote about how she
00:36was drugged on her birthday and then for four weeks at her home before she was taken to a
00:40foreign country and raped.
00:42The singer was able to escape the ordeal by fleeing, but the details on how remain hazy
00:47as she, quote, cannot remember getting home.
00:49She wrote,
00:57She continued, saying that she contemplated running away, but was afraid her attacker would
01:03call the police and that he had made a confession of wanting to kill her, adding,
01:07The 35-year-old singer, whose full name is Amy Duffy, thanked her psychologist for helping
01:17her deal with the trauma, but also wrote that the rape had, quote, stripped me of my human
01:21rights to experience a life with autonomy from fear, and that it has already stolen one-third
01:26of my life.
01:27Duffy, who released a new song last month for the first time in years, called Something
01:31Beautiful, hoped sharing her story would explain why she disappeared from public view and ease
