00:14Wu, who also starred in the groundbreaking Crazy Rich Asians,

00:17vented online expressing her disdain for the show renewal

00:20in multiple now-deleted tweets and Instagram comments.

00:24The social media outburst ignited public backlash

00:27and the actress largely disappeared from the limelight.

00:30Now Wu has revealed that cyberbullying from her online comments

00:33drove her to attempt suicide.

00:36Wu wrote on Twitter,

00:37According to Wu, a fellow Asian actress sent her a few direct messages on Twitter

00:53telling her that she'd become a blight on the Asian American community.

00:56Those feelings of shame led to an attempt to end her life

01:00before a friend found her and took her to the ER.

01:03She continued saying,

01:04The actress noted that she has spent the past three years

01:13working on her mental health, as well as a memoir.

01:15For the past few years,

01:17I put my career aside to focus on my mental health.

01:20After a little break from Hollywood and a lot of therapy,

01:23I feel okay enough to venture back on here, at least for a little bit.

01:27At the time of the 2019 incident,

01:29the star had explained that her response

01:31was not a reflection of her attitude toward the sitcom,

01:34but rather disappointment because its renewal

01:36meant she had to pass on a play she'd hoped to do.

01:38I was temporarily upset yesterday, not because I hate the show,

01:42but because its renewal meant I had to give up another project

01:45that I was really passionate about.

01:47Since 2019's Hustlers,

01:49Wu has not appeared in another major project

01:51until Amazon's The Terminal List this month.
