00:00The 2025 Oscar nominations are out, so what were the big surprises and who got snubbed?
00:05We're breaking it all down. A number of big names, including some past Oscar favorites,
00:10like Angelina Jolie, Denzel Washington, and Nicole Kidman missed out on recognition this year.
00:14Maria was an expected nominee in multiple categories, but only got one nomination for
00:18cinematography. Not only was two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington left out of the Best
00:23Supporting Actor category for his work in Gladiator 2, the film also only earned one
00:28nomination for Best Costume Design. Baby Girl starring Nicole Kidman was racking up nominations
00:33and awards earlier this season, but received no Oscar noms this morning. Another film that also
00:38got shut out was Challengers, despite being in the awards conversation all season. Star Zendaya,
00:43director Luca Guadagnino, and even Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who won at the Golden Globes for
00:48Best Score, failed to receive a single Oscar nomination. The Challengers director also saw
00:52his other awards hopeful film, Queer, miss out on nominations, including for star Daniel Craig,
00:57who was seen as a possible Best Actor nominee. In the Best Supporting Actress category, both
01:02Margaret Qualley for The Substance and Selena Gomez for Emilia Perez missed out on expected
01:07nominations. Meanwhile, Monica Barbaro landed a surprise nod for her role in A Complete Unknown.
01:12Robert Eggers' vampire film Nosferatu received more recognition than expected with four nominations.
01:18Denis Villeneuve's Dune Part 2 landed a Best Picture nomination but got much less awards love
01:23than its predecessor. Despite Wicked having a big morning picking up the second-most nominations,
01:28director John M. Chu was shut out of the Best Director category. And in the Best Picture category,
01:33Sing Sing, September 5th, and A Real Pain all missed out on nominations, despite the latter two
01:38landing PGA Award noms, while Nickel Boys and I'm Still Here were surprise Best Picture nominees.
