Oscars 2014 Nominations and Biggest Snubs. Including American Hustle, Jennifer Lawrence, Gravity and Sandra Bullock.
Transcript
00:00Oscar nominations, Oscar snubs, so many Oscar-y feelings.
00:04Brian here.
00:05Let's talk about it.
00:06This year's Oscar nods were basically a repeat of the Golden Globes.
00:10Well, except for a few surprises.
00:13Jonah Hill came out of nowhere with a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role in
00:17Wolf of Wall Street.
00:18Tom Hanks didn't get a nod, but his co-star and overnight sensation Barcat Abdi snuck
00:24in there again, just like the Globes.
00:27I'm the captain now.
00:28And who knew we would ever see Oscar-nominated and jackass in the same sentence?
00:34But there it was.
00:36Their latest flick, Bad Grandpa, managed to land a nod in the makeup category.
00:41As for the least surprising nods…
00:43Meryl Streep for August Osage County?
00:45Yep, of course.
00:47The Oscars should really just put her on the ballot for the rest of her life, right?
00:52We all know Sandra Bullock was a lot for Best Actress for Gravity.
00:56And if we were the Academy, we would have handed out nominations for every star in American
01:00Hustle and 12 Years a Slave as well.
01:03Now what about who got snuffed specifically in the acting category?
01:08It seems kind of tragic that Oprah's role in Lee Daniels the Butler has only been recognized
01:13by one major award show, the SAG Awards.
01:17And if her got a Best Picture nod, then it only makes sense that Joaquin Phoenix should
01:21be up for Best Actor, right?
01:23The whole film was mostly just him talking to himself.
01:27The Oscars also snubbed indie movies in general, which kind of sucks.
01:31Inside Llewyn Davis didn't get any love in the big music categories, despite its strong
01:35music-centric plotline.
01:37And last year's Sundance breakout, Fruitville Station was pretty much forgotten in this
01:41award show season race.
01:43We're gonna be good.
01:44We're gonna be good.
01:45But we were still holding out hope that the Academy Awards would recognize its first-time
01:48director Ryan Coogler or up-and-comer Michael B. Jordan.
01:53Other movies and stars that were on our Oscars wish list included the film Rush, Hugh Jackman
01:57for his dad on a Warpath role in Prisoners, and Naomi Harris as Winnie and Mandela Long Walk
02:03to Freedom.
