While Lady Gaga took home an Oscar for best original song, that was the only award that 'A Star Is Born' won, and multiple nominees like 'Mary Poppins Returns' and 'Can You Ever Forgive Me?' were shut out.

00:00The 2019 Oscars took over Hollywood on Sunday night,
00:03and when it came to handing out trophies,
00:04there were some major snubs and surprises.
00:07Olivia Colman shocked awards experts
00:09by winning the Oscar for Best Actress,
00:11beating presumptive favorite Glenn Close.
00:13Glenn Close, you've been my idol for so long,
00:16and this is not how I wanted it to be,
00:18and I think you're amazing, I love you very much.
00:21Colman's win marked the favorite's only award of the night,
00:24even though it went into the ceremony,
00:25tying Roma for the most nominations with 10 noms.
00:29Similarly, A Star Is Born headed into the night with eight noms,
00:32but only ended up taking home one award,
00:34Best Original Song for Shallow.
00:36Vice also had a poor showing only winning
00:38one of the eight awards it was up for,
00:39Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
00:41It failed to snag any of the acting awards
00:43it was nominated for, including the Best Actor Prize
00:45a number of experts thought star Christian Bale would win,
00:48first portrayal of Dick Cheney.
00:50I have been Secretary of Defense.
00:54I have been Chief of Staff.
00:56And while Spike Lee received a standing ovation
00:58while collecting his Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay,
01:01that was the only award Black Klansman won,
01:03despite receiving six noms.
01:05Meanwhile, several films were completely shut out,
01:08including Mary Poppins Returns,
01:09The Ballad of Buster Scruggs,
01:11and Can You Ever Forgive Me,
01:12which some experts predicted would sweep
01:14in the categories of Best Actress for Melissa McCarthy,
01:17Supporting Actor for Richard E. Grant,
01:19and Adapted Screenplay.
