Eleanor Matsuura talks about what the fan response to 'The Day of the Jackal' has been like while chatting with THR at the SAG Awards. Plus, she shares what she knows about season two of her hit show.
00:00What is the fan response to the show been like for you?
00:03Because it is just an amazing series, I loved it, and it's just a non-stop thrilling ride.
00:08Oh, thank you. Yeah, it's been amazing, actually.
00:10It's been quite unprecedented.
00:12Like, when you make something, you never know if people are going to like it or if people are not going to like it.
00:17And I have to say, I've never been part of something that is sort of universally well-loved as The Day of the Jackal.
00:23The response has been so incredible, and people seem to be really hungry for more, which is always a lovely thing to be a part of.
00:31It's a lovely moment that we get to celebrate it, because when you're making it, you never know how it's going to turn out.
00:37And so actually coming here feels like a real full circle for us.
00:41Speaking of more, any updates on when we might be able to see season two? Have you seen any scripts yet?
00:47I am not allowed to reveal anything about anything.
00:53All I know is that season two is happening, and hopefully it will be soon.
00:59That is literally it.
01:01Like, what else can I say?
01:02I've been warned, heavily warned.
01:05So I'm on my best behavior.
01:07I won't press too much.
01:08I don't want to get you in trouble.
01:10But it seems like from the cliffhanger ending, we're definitely going to see more of your character in season two.
01:15Do you have any hopes for your character in season two?
01:18Oh, that's a good question.
01:19I kind of hope that Xena gets to sort of do a little bit of what the jackal does, because she's kind of out on her own now that her people have turned against her.
01:29So she's sort of on a limb.
01:32But she has sort of aligned herself with the jackal.
01:34So maybe she'll get to do some fun stuff.
01:36Basically, what I'm saying is I want to wear a wig.
01:38I want to wear a disguise.
01:39I want to wear a wig.
01:40I want to dress up.
01:41That's what I'm saying.
01:42It feels like she's smarter, too, than her people gave her credit for.
01:45Like, they were ready to take her out, and she's like, oh, no, I'm not going anywhere.
01:49Oh, yeah, yeah.
01:50She's not a pushover.
01:51She's a super smart cookie, Xena.
01:53Yeah, exactly.
01:54I think she's one step ahead, which is very similar to the jackal.
01:58So even though she's not as adept as he is or has maybe the same experience that he does, maybe in season two we'll get to see a little glimpse of an opportunity for her to do that.
02:11Now we're celebrating TV and movie actors tonight.
02:14What's a nominated movie this year that you wish you were a part of?
02:18Oh, my God.
02:19Listen, I know I'm not alone when I talk about Wicked, and I would love to pretend it's just because I have kids and they're obsessed, but I'm obsessed.
02:27It's like for my inner musical theater child.
02:31I love that movie so much.
02:33I think everybody in it was incredible.
02:36I honestly think it was just such a masterpiece, and it's been on nonstop in my house ever since it came out.
02:42So, yeah, I would have loved to have been a part of it just because I'm such a fan, and I thought they did the most beautiful job.
02:49The whole cast will be here tonight, and next week are the Oscars.
02:53Who are you rooting for for Best Picture?
02:55Is it Wicked or another movie?
02:57You know what?
02:58Wicked's like the only one I've seen.
03:01So, again, kids.
03:02Kids.
03:03I have kids.
03:04So I'm Wicked all the way.
03:06I'm behind them.
03:07I would love them to win.
03:08I mean, I think Cynthia and Ariana, what they did with those roles, they're so iconic, and I just love their performance.
03:15They brought something different to it, even though they're such, you know, like I said, iconic roles.
03:21I loved it, and so I would be behind them all the way.
03:25Well, thank you so much for talking to me.
03:26Good luck tonight, and we can't wait to see more of The Day of the Jack.
