HBO Max and Paramount+ will become one streaming service. That's if and when Paramount Skydance's acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery is complete, but there are still quite a number of regulatory hurdles standing in the way. Paramount CEO David Ellison told investors, "We do plan to put the two services together, which today gives us a little over 200 million direct to consumer subscribers. We think that really positions us to compete with the leaders in the space."

00:04That's if and when Paramount Skydance's acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery is complete,

00:09but there are still quite a number of regulatory hurdles standing in the way.

00:13Paramount CEO David Ellison told investors on Monday,

00:16We do plan to put the two services together,

00:19which today gives us a little over 200 million direct-to-consumer subscribers.

00:23We think that really positions us to compete with the leaders in the space.

00:27But Ellison promised that the HBO brand will continue to operate independently.

00:32Ellison said,

00:50During the investor call, Ellison also said of his broader business plan with the merger,

00:55By uniting our iconic studios' complementary streaming platforms with a global footprint,

00:59our cable and linear networks, and our world-class IP,

01:03we have the opportunity to help shape the future and build a next-generation media and entertainment company.

01:08This has been our goal since day one.

01:10He continued,

01:11This is not about consolidation. It's about reinventing the business.

01:14We want to expand our reach and enhance our ability to create the world's most compelling stories and experiences.

01:20And we're incredibly excited about this transaction, and it will accelerate that ambition.

01:24Hollywood has been wary of the deal out of concerns for jobs and production.

01:28Ellison sought to relieve at least some of those concerns Monday,

01:31reiterating that the company was not planning to pull back on film or TV production.
