00:00Michelle Yeoh and Angela Bassett are just some of the stars possibly carving out a space in Academy Awards history.
00:06Here are all the records that could be broken on Oscars night.
00:10Both Yeoh and Bassett have already scored historic nominations.
00:14Yeoh received her first Best Actress Oscar nod for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once,
00:20making her the first Asian performer to be nominated for Best Actress.
00:24And should she win, paving new ground for Asian women in the Lead Actress category.
00:29Angela Bassett scored a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her work in Black Panther Wakanda Forever,
00:35breaking the glass ceiling for Marvel performers.
00:38It would be a historic win for Marvel as the MCU has never been a part of the Oscar acting categories.
00:44Elsewhere in the Supporting Actress race are Everything Everywhere All at Once star Stephanie Hsu and the whales Hong Chao.
00:50This will be the first time two Asian women have shared that category in the same year.
00:54This is also the first year Asian actors achieved a historic four nominations in a single year.
01:00Other records that could be broken include John Williams,
01:02who received his 53rd Oscar nomination for Best Original Score for his work on The Fablemans,
01:08and could become the oldest Oscar winner at age 91.
01:12From the oldest to the youngest,
01:14Paul Meskel is nominated for Best Actor for his work in Afterson,
01:17and could be the youngest star to win in the Leading Actor category at age 27.
01:22Top Gun Maverick and Avatar The Way of Water have already made history.
01:26For the first time, two sequels were nominated for Best Picture in the same year.
01:30Should Top Gun Maverick win in its Best Picture category,
01:33it would be the first sequel to win without the original film being nominated for Best Picture during its initial run.
