The decision comes as the Sony-produced drama was saved days after cancellation last year. Talks for a two-hour movie to wrap it up continue.

00:00Sad news for fans of Timeless. We may never know the fate of Lucy, Wyatt and the rest of the team.

00:10The beloved time travel drama has been canceled for a second time at NBC.

00:15But there is some good news. Sources say producers, Sony Pictures Television Studios and the network

00:21are continuing talks for a potential two-hour movie to wrap up the massive finale cliffhanger.

00:27You know the one.

00:30You guys want to get Rufus back or what?

00:33While not a ratings breakout, the show from Sean Ryan and Eric Kripke has maintained a loyal and vocal fanbase.

00:40Last year, the series was saved thanks to fan outcry. In a rare move, NBC reversed its decision to cancel the drama

00:47after its first season. Ryan took to Twitter on Friday to share his thoughts on the cancellation.

00:52He wrote, in part,

00:53We're proud of the impact NBC Timeless had on so many people. The students who embraced history as a result of our show.

01:00The people who were inspired by our stories of inclusion and acceptance. We saw your tweets and were inspired by you.

01:07If NBC is sincere in wanting a two-hour movie to give much-needed closure to our amazing NBC Timeless fans,

01:14we are ready to make it. We don't want the journeys of Lucy, Wyatt, Rufus and the others to end yet.

01:20The news comes just days before the options on the show's cast expire. So should NBC and Sony TV agree to a movie,

01:27the indie studio would have to sign its stars to new deals again. Last year, the cast all had to renegotiate their contracts

01:35after season one was canceled to address the short-order renewal for season two.

01:39And even if we don't get a TV movie, there may still be a sliver of hope for the time-traveling team's future.

01:45Back in a May 18 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sony TV topper Jeff Frost said,

01:50In the event that it doesn't go forward, we have a number of conversations going on with a number of interested parties.

01:57We really hope that NBC sees the light. If they don't, we are very anxious to try to set it up someplace else.
