The former Netflix comedy's time at ViacomCBS — including first-run episodes on Pop and repeats on CBS — has come to an end as the conglomerate has declined to order additional episodes of the beloved update on Norman Lear's iconic series.

00:11ViacomCBS has canceled the beloved reboot
00:13of Norman Lear's One Day at a Time.
00:16The former Netflix comedy's time at ViacomCBS,
00:18including first-run episodes on pop TV
00:20and repeats on CBS, has come to an end,
00:23as the conglomerate has declined
00:25to order additional episodes.
00:26Producer Sony Pictures Television,
00:28who successfully found a second home for the show,
00:30starring Justina Machado and Rita Moreno
00:32when Netflix canceled it after three seasons,
00:35plans to shop the comedy again.
00:37Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter
00:38that the studio is having ongoing conversations
00:41with multiple outlets,
00:42as it searches for an unprecedented third home
00:45for one day at a time.
00:46Co-showrunner Mike Royce tweeted,
00:48So yes, much has changed at Viacom in the last year,
00:51and unfortunately, we won't be on pop anymore.
00:54Thanks to everybody over there
00:55for the opportunity to do season four.
00:57And guess what?
00:58We're still trying for season five.

01:29This news comes after production on season four of the show
01:32was shut down amid the novel coronavirus pandemic
01:35after completing only six of its 13 episodes.
01:38Production never resumed.
01:40Sony TV has a history of finding new homes
01:42for canceled originals
01:43and continues to believe in One Day at a Time,
01:45as sources close to the show remain optimistic
01:48that a new deal can be worked out.
01:50Sources also say the studio remains fiercely protective
01:53of One Day at a Time.
