00:00New light has been shed on Donald Trump's, quote, serial bad behavior during his time at NBC into
00:04The Hollywood Reporter's story by Kim Masters and Leslie Goldberg. Among the revelations,
00:09Trump was toying with running for president back in 2011, and NBCUniversal was unhappy about it.
00:14The network felt it needed to keep the Apprentice spinoff Celebrity Apprentice around with its
00:18original star. According to sources, Steve Burke, then-CEO of NBCUniversal, made a deal that went
00:23beyond whatever compensation Trump and producer Mark Burnett had wrung from the company. NBCUniversal
00:29also had to make a contribution to the Trump Foundation. According to multiple sources,
00:33the company coughed up $500,000. Apparently, that wasn't the first time Trump had demanded a little
00:39extra to do his job. According to a former top executive, NBC had gotten off the hook for a
00:44$10,000 donation to the same organization in 2007 to get him to show up for the network's
00:49Apprentice presentation. A former top executive with knowledge of the situation said it just
00:54shows his serial bad behavior. I may be your employee and I'm supposed to go to the
00:58Upfront presentation, but I'm going to leverage you. Some insiders assumed he pocketed the money,
01:03and indeed, the charity turned out to be not so real. The foundation was dissolved by court order
01:08in 2019 after the New York attorney general alleged, quote, a shocking pattern of illegality.
01:14According to another network insider, Trump was always a nightmare. He tried to get the showrunners
01:18fired every other day. One of them was in the hot seat at all times. Trump pondered running for
01:23president several times over the years. According to a former network insider, he said he was announcing a bid in
01:28June 2015 and he'd be out of the race by September and start shooting Celebrity Apprentice in January.
01:35He never expected to get any traction. He was doing it to boost his own brand. At his June 15th launch
01:40event, he notoriously referred to Mexican immigrants as rapists, stirring great upset within the staff
01:45ranks. NBC ultimately cut ties with Trump, citing his continued derogatory statements. Insiders say
01:52Trump responded with a loud torrent of abuse and couldn't believe it. NBCUniversal declined to comment,
01:57as did a White House spokesperson. For much more on this story, go to THR.com.
