00:00CNN has indefinitely suspended anchor Chris Cuomo after documents released by the New York
00:05Attorney General's Office detailed how he used his connections to try to help his brother,
00:09former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, respond to claims of sexual harassment.
00:13A CNN spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement,
00:16The New York Attorney General's Office released transcripts and exhibits Monday that shed new
00:20light on Chris Cuomo's involvement in his brother's defense. The documents,
00:24which we were not privy to before their public release, raised serious questions.
00:27The statement continued,
00:29When Chris admitted to us that he had offered advice to his brother's staff,
00:32he broke our rules and we acknowledged that publicly. But we also appreciated the unique
00:36position he was in and understood his need to put family first and job second. However,
00:41these documents point to a greater level of involvement in his brother's efforts than we
00:44previously knew. As a result, we have suspended Chris indefinitely pending further evaluation.
00:49While it was previously known Chris Cuomo participated in strategy sessions with his
00:53brother and his brother's staff, new information also showed that Cuomo used his
00:57sources and contacts to find info about some of his brother's accusers and to gather information
01:02about stories other journalists were working on about the governor. Specifically, the CNN anchor
01:07gathered information about a story that Ronan Farrow was working on for The New Yorker,
01:11including details about when it might publish and if Farrow had uncovered any new accusers.
01:16That being said, Chris Cuomo also told investigators that he never tried to influence stories about his
01:20brother. He said,
01:21I wasn't going to call Ronan Farrow. I wasn't going to try to influence any of the stories.
01:26So the idea of one reporter calling another to find out about what's coming down the pipe
01:30is completely business as usual. For more on this story, go to THR.com.
01:35For The Hollywood Reporter News, I'm Tiffany Taylor.
