00:04The layoffs are part of continued cost-cutting by parent company Warner Bros. Discovery.

00:09CNN CEO Chris Licht said in a memo Wednesday morning that the channel will inform paid contributors on Wednesday,

00:15with full-time employees being informed of their status on Thursday.

00:19He called the coming days, quote, a difficult time for everyone.

00:22He went on to write,

00:23Our people are the heart and soul of this organization.

00:26It is incredibly hard to say goodbye to any one member of the CNN team, much less many.

00:31He continued,

00:32I recently described this process as a gut punch because I know that is how it feels for all of us.

00:37The cuts don't come as a surprise as the CEO warned employees in late October

00:42that the news division would be undergoing a restructuring,

00:45citing, quote, widespread concern over the global economic outlook.
