00:00It is feeling like I can do anything.
00:03Sewing is my life.
00:05I can't imagine not doing this.
00:07I have talent.
00:09I am a force to be reckoned with.
00:16I know who I am and I know what I want to make.
00:18I'm ready for this.
00:20I'm a designer that is different.
00:22That's something that the fashion world needs to see.
00:25I have to win.
00:26It would change so much for me.
00:28In this competition,
00:30sometimes you're in and sometimes you're out.
00:34Let's go. I'm ready.
00:46I'm so excited.
00:48Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to do Project Runway
00:50and now I'm here.
00:52Oh my gosh.
00:54Wow.
00:56I am lost for words right now.
00:58I am here for a reason.
01:00I have it in me.
01:02I feel like I could win this.
01:04This is crazy.
01:08Oh my God, like this is real.
01:10I made it to Project Runway Canada.
01:12I'm doing this for my people.
01:14Little Feather.
01:16Little Feather.
01:17Little Feather.
01:18That's so beautiful.
01:19I'm Chad.
01:20I'm the only Quebecois here and I feel kind of great.
01:24I love to present the Quebec people.
01:27They will miss me.
01:28I love it.
01:29I love it.
01:30This is surreal.
01:31It just feels like I'm waiting for somebody to be like,
01:33psych, you know, something.
01:35Wait, you're Charles, right?
01:37Charles is a desire that is pretty much known here in Toronto.
01:41So to see him, I'm a bit worried for myself.
01:45You're a huge competition.
01:47What's happening?
01:49Oh my God.
01:51Someone important is coming out of that plane.
01:54Oh my God.
01:56Oh my God.
02:01Oh my God.
02:02Coco Rocha.
02:03Oh my God.
02:05Coco looks so fabulous.
02:09She just exudes a confident energy.
02:11I just hope I can dress her one day.
02:13Oh my goodness.
02:15Welcome to Project Runway Canada, designers.
02:18This is such a big moment for all of you.
02:23But don't forget, only one of you will be named Canada's next great fashion designer.
02:29Want to know what you're competing for?
02:31Yes!
02:32A feature spread in Elle Canada magazine.
02:36Woo!
02:37And from TD, a career launching investment of $100,000.
02:43Oh!
02:45Crazy!
02:46That's insane.
02:47But I'm not the only one joining you on this ride.
02:51Okay.
02:52She's a celebrated designer, author, activist, and industry visionary.
02:58Your mentor, Aurora James.
03:00Aurora is incredible.
03:04She's had a huge impact on the fashion world.
03:07It's so inspiring.
03:08We love you!
03:10I am so honored to be your mentor.
03:14Are you ready to hear about your first challenge?
03:16Yes!
03:17Yes!
03:18Well, designers, I've come with some baggage.
03:21Oh!
03:22What's happening?
03:23I am nervous.
03:24Are we using other people's clothes?
03:27Please step up and claim one.
03:29Open them up and take a look!
03:33I'm nervous for them.
03:34Oh my God!
03:35Denim!
03:36Opinion!
03:37Yes!
03:38I'm very excited.
03:39I like working with denim because I'm the master of upcycling.
03:45I have my own design brand.
03:46It is called Obnoxious.
03:48Everything I do is denim.
03:49Everything.
03:50Denim is not the easiest material to work with.
03:54It's thick.
03:55It's bulky.
03:56So this is a challenge.
03:58Den-um?
03:59That's a nice one.
04:00The Canadian tuxedo used to be a punchline, but now it's no joke.
04:05Fashion houses like Louis Vuitton and Chanel have elevated this iconic look.
04:10Giving denim on denim its moment on the runway time and time again.
04:15For your first challenge, we want you to create a high fashion, runway ready, all denim look.
04:21I'm sorry.
04:22And you'll find everything else you need in the workroom.
04:25Your model cards can be found inside your suitcases.
04:28This is a two day challenge and your one shot to make a killer first impression.
04:33It's your chance to show me and the judges exactly who you are as a designer with a look that is authentically you.
04:40There's a lot of pressure to reflect my aesthetic out of denim.
04:44It's going to be really, really tough.
04:46All right.
04:47You have 30 minutes to sketch your ideas and I'll meet you in the workroom later.
04:50And the next time I see you, it will be on the other runway.
04:54All right.
04:55Woo.
04:56Designers, your 30 minutes starts now.
04:58Woo.
04:59Okay.
05:00Here you go.
05:01Here you go.
05:03Hello.
05:04This is going to be fun.
05:09Is your model a man or a woman?
05:10I believe they're non-binary.
05:11Okay.
05:12Slay.
05:13I always try to design with the queer community in mind.
05:16I identify as non-binary as well.
05:18So for this challenge, I'm doing this whole gender bendy moment with this pointed halter neck corset, dramatic hip peignets, and we might get a little sailor hat out of me.
05:27Do you work with denim a lot?
05:29Actually, yeah.
05:30My brand is a denim based brand.
05:33I started my brand two years ago.
05:36It's called Maison Prix Fontaine.
05:38Each day of my life, I'm touching denim.
05:41So I'm thinking a maxi gown with a lot of colors to create a big ombre effect.
05:48I'm super confident.
05:51I'm terrified.
05:52I don't do menswear.
05:54Oh, my God.
05:56I have been a designer for 10 years.
06:00I'm a really big jacket designer.
06:03So I'm making a military jacket and some pants.
06:09I'm good at pants, but these are men's pants.
06:12It's so out of my comfort zone.
06:15You kill it.
06:16I feel like all my ideas are on this paper, and I need this taken away from me before I overthink.
06:21I think I'm set.
06:23Time's up.
06:24Let's go to the workroom.
06:26What did you pack for our trip?
06:29Denim!
06:31Let's get it.
06:35At stake for the winner, from TD, a career-launching investment of $100,000 and a feature in Elle Canada magazine,
06:44with global supermodel Coco Rocha, fashion designer Spencer Badu, creative director Aurora James, and legendary fashion journalist Jeanne Becker.
06:56This is Project Runway Canada.
06:58Watch me do my thing.
07:08Oh, my God.
07:09Oh, my God.
07:10Okay.
07:11It is hitting me that I'm on Project Runway Canada, seeing the space.
07:15I'm like, oh, my God, I'm here.
07:17Where's my spot?
07:18Oh, I'm right there.
07:20Curtis, you're here.
07:21Are we table besties?
07:23This is gonna be fun.
07:24Yes.
07:29I'm going through all of my denim right now.
07:31I'm kind of freaking out because I don't even know if I have enough to fit the model.
07:35Do you have a white that you're willing to give up?
07:37Um, I kind of need the white.
07:38Ooh.
07:39Yep.
07:40Do you have a gray?
07:41I'll take a gray.
07:42There's a giant risk with my design because I'm gonna be shredding the denim, and I don't know if I'm going to finish it.
07:47Do you usually do, like, more gowns and stuff?
07:50Oh, no.
07:51I do a combination of everything.
07:52I actually love streetwear.
07:55I've done couture.
07:56I've done streetwear.
07:57So I'm making an asymmetrical ombre effect dress.
08:00It's going to go from black to white, and everything has to be perfect.
08:04Winning Project Runway Canada would be very validating in the Canadian fashion landscape.
08:10I want to win this whole thing.
08:12I just don't like what I have to do.
08:13Yeah.
08:14And it's just gonna be a lot.
08:15How's it going?
08:16Um, I'm just adding colors.
08:18In my culture, they used to use the red eyebrows from the ptarmigans, and they would use it as trim at the bottom of our garments.
08:25So that's kind of my thinking behind this.
08:28So in the Western Arctic, our fashion is very influenced by the fur trade.
08:34Part of what I like to do is taking our traditional materials and using them in new ways.
08:40So I'm planning to make a cocktail dress that looks very high fashion.
08:45My dream is to do this full time, you know.
08:48I have five children.
08:49I want them to see that this is possible for someone from Duk Duyuk Duk.
08:54I'm like proof that it's never too late to start chasing your dreams.
08:58Like, you can definitely do it.
09:00Okay.
09:01I'm so a denim girl.
09:02I often wear denim on denim.
09:04I grew up on a farm.
09:05So this is my challenge.
09:07I'm thinking a slouchy jacket and a matching pant.
09:11I feel like it's gonna have to be patchwork.
09:13Patchwork can come off really crafty if it's not perfectly executed.
09:17So I just have to make sure that it doesn't look like a DIY project.
09:20All right.
09:21Let's start cutting open jeans.
09:25Hi, designers.
09:26Hi.
09:27Hi.
09:28So this is your very first challenge.
09:32I really want to see what you're up to.
09:38All right.
09:39Leland, how's it going?
09:40Oh, wow.
09:41Okay.
09:42We're going for it.
09:43Yeah.
09:44This design is definitely in my realm.
09:45I make costumes.
09:46I make costumes every day of my life.
09:49So I want to do more of a street wear meets Canadian tuxedo.
09:53And I'm adding a very oversized ruched pant and this deconstructed coat with this little corset.
10:00This is our first challenge.
10:02So I want to show technical skill and the camp and the fun of fashion.
10:06You can make something fun, but high fashion means it's also art.
10:10Yes, of course.
10:12So I pretty much started designing around two years ago.
10:15Self-taught?
10:16Yeah, self-taught.
10:17My aesthetic has a lot of punk rock vibe to it.
10:21You'll see me using vinyls, leather.
10:24So I want to create a two-piece garment for a rebel, like a good girl gone bad.
10:29Let's see how it goes.
10:31Hi, Naomi.
10:32Hey, girl.
10:33How's it going?
10:34I'm losing my mind.
10:35You are?
10:36Yeah.
10:37Why?
10:38I feel like I'm really in my head.
10:39I haven't even been graduated for a year yet from fashion school.
10:41Don't let that hold you back.
10:43I never graduated fashion school.
10:45Okay.
10:46I'm really excited to see what's going on.
10:49I have a little bolero moment.
10:50Okay.
10:51And a jellyfish.
10:52Denim skirt with lots of chunks of denim coming down.
10:55And I'm kind of debating the top.
10:58Which one's giving you the most high fashion?
11:01This one.
11:02The bra top?
11:04Yeah.
11:05Um, okay.
11:07Which one's giving you the most high fashion?
11:09I don't know.
11:10I feel like maybe it hasn't been drawn yet.
11:13I think you have to, like, hair it back a little bit.
11:18Maybe what I'm making isn't high fashion.
11:20Maybe I'm going in the wrong direction.
11:22I've wasted so much time.
11:24I don't know what I'm doing yet, and I don't even know where to start.
11:27What is yours?
11:28I'll show it to you, but you can't laugh.
11:29Okay.
11:30I don't know.
11:31I'm hoping my designs don't look like my drive.
11:32I wanted to bring an elegant twist to denim, so I'm making a flowy denim train dress.
11:46Denim's not giving me flowy.
11:48No, but it will give you a train.
11:50Okay.
11:51I think.
11:52Where is all this self-doubt coming from?
11:55Because I'm sure.
11:56Well, it sounds super high fashion to me.
11:58Yeah.
11:59That's what's most important.
12:02Ah!
12:03I'm bleeding.
12:04Oh, no, are you okay?
12:05Just a little pin moment.
12:06Not great for my white fabric.
12:08I was very lucky to get these white jeans because I want to create the look of a classic tuxedo shirt.
12:15And I want to do a skirt.
12:17I think my design philosophy is a bit different because I am self-taught.
12:22I actually did a science degree, and I wrote the MCAT, and I applied to medical school.
12:27But I'm here to prove that I can do this.
12:34Okay, that's not right.
12:36Something didn't go according to plan here.
12:38I need to figure out what it is.
12:40With this design, I want it to look high fashion.
12:44So I am creating a strapless dress with a plunging peak neckline and a floral applique motif.
12:51My concern is that the judges might feel like I didn't push myself enough.
12:56Pushing yourself within this context isn't always about the most work.
13:02Mm-hmm.
13:03It's about the most beautifully executed vision.
13:07Mm-hmm.
13:08Okay.
13:09I'm impressed with some of what I'm seeing, but there's only an hour left tonight.
13:15Get on it.
13:16Awesome.
13:17Thank you, Aurora.
13:19Bye, Aurora.
13:20Okay, I'm going to go sew these and hope for the best.
13:24So fast.
13:25I'm in love with this machine.
13:27Okay, my jeans are done.
13:29Yeah.
13:31I'm looking around and I'm seeing other designers at the machine sewing already,
13:35and I'm a little bit nervous because I haven't started any of my actual sewing yet.
13:40There's no time for this, so I'm thinking maybe I'll just create a tunic dress.
13:43I'll probably have to utilize all of tomorrow to sew it together,
13:46so I'm just making fabric right now.
13:49Yo.
13:53That looks good.
13:54I'm almost wondering if it needs the overpiece.
13:56Like, do I want to put more work for myself?
13:58I think it needs it.
14:01I'm overwhelmed.
14:02Usually, this is something that would take me weeks to finish.
14:08Two days?
14:10I have a lot to do, and I'm hoping that I have enough time.
14:13This is hard.
14:16That's it for today.
14:18It's time to go home.
14:19Hell yeah.
14:28Good morning, sunshine.
14:31Let's do it.
14:32Straight to the machine.
14:35I know what I'm doing today.
14:36I'm doing the skirt as a short.
14:39Yesterday, I knew that I had to start from scratch,
14:43so now I need to go with what I think is high fashion.
14:47I'm trying to decide how much ass I want to show.
14:52This is looking so good.
14:54But...
14:56I feel terrified that the biggest challenge in my life
15:02is going to be presented to Jeannie Becker.
15:06Hey, everyone!
15:08Hey!
15:09Oh, my God!
15:10The models are going to be here soon.
15:12I'm not sweating.
15:13I'm not sweating at all.
15:16Hi, Curtis.
15:17Hello.
15:18How's it going?
15:19This is a pannier in progress.
15:21I'm creating a whole universe with this look.
15:23I'm really inspired by historical silhouettes,
15:25like 17th-century hip panniers,
15:28and bringing them into the modern fashion world.
15:30This is looking great.
15:31Just keep in mind,
15:32we want a chic first impression.
15:39Oh, I just ripped .
15:41I'm seeing a nude body form.
15:45The models are going to be here soon.
15:47I feel like it's sewing time.
15:49Yes, it is.
15:50So I'm just kind of panicked.
15:54The individual pieces are all stitched up.
15:56Yes.
15:57I just have to put the bigger pieces together.
15:58I will hopefully have something for the models to try on.
16:00I'm scared.
16:02First impressions sometimes can either make or break you.
16:05I hope that the judges can see my personal take on what elegant is.
16:11I'm just nervous.
16:12I don't have the time to do that.
16:18The corset is going to be good.
16:20I think my secret weapon is my speed.
16:25I've been doing this for so long that I don't second-guess myself.
16:28Like, that's gorgeous.
16:30I am half Chinese, half Scottish,
16:33and my Chinese family immigrated here in the 50s
16:36and opened up a dry cleaner that is still there to this day.
16:38They're still working it.
16:40They have such a strong work ethic.
16:41That's kind of always been instilled in me.
16:44Oh my God, so cool.
16:46That looks amazing.
16:47To be surrounded by such talented designers is intimidating.
16:56I feel like I'm going to throw up.
16:59I just don't think that it will work as, like, a short.
17:03I don't know what to do with my design.
17:05I have a million ideas going on in my head, but I have all of this beautiful patchwork denim.
17:12So I'm going to sew it together and I'll figure it out.
17:15I just need to trust the process.
17:21Hi, little feather.
17:23Hi.
17:24So what else are we doing here?
17:28We're making it deadly.
17:31Okay.
17:33Right now what I'm seeing is, like, a jacket that was a jacket that still looks like a jacket.
17:38And similarly the pant.
17:40I'm not really focused on the pants.
17:43The judges are going to be looking also at the pants.
17:45Yeah.
17:46Because what I don't want is for them to look at this and be like, this is the jacket that they gave her and she only just added a collar.
17:54It's like, did she do anything?
17:56Then that means it's, like, factory ready in my eyes.
17:59Factory ready.
18:00Yes.
18:01We need runway ready.
18:03All right.
18:15Like, I missed it.
18:19I missed the boat.
18:20You know?
18:24I feel like she's correct.
18:28That's why it hurts so much.
18:30I just have no choice but to take deep breaths and remember why I'm here.
18:36It's for the runway.
18:37And it's like, wait a minute, you're on freaking Project Runway.
18:42And you've got to be ready for the runway.
18:45You okay?
18:46I'm good.
18:47All good.
18:49The vision is coming to life.
18:52Oh my God.
18:53I know.
18:57Oh, I messed up.
18:59How?
19:00Wrong side?
19:02Yeah.
19:03When I was patching the train fabric together, I didn't flip it the other way.
19:08I made a one skirt just facing one side and it's not right.
19:11I'm just going to make a full round circle skirt instead of a train.
19:14Screw it.
19:15Oh, to my goodness.
19:17I'll make it work.
19:20I think I need a model.
19:22All right.
19:23Come on in, models!
19:26Yay!
19:28Oh my goodness!
19:29Hello!
19:31Yes!
19:32I'm just adding the finishing stitches to the skirt and then I want to fit you in quickly.
19:37Yes!
19:39Are you okay?
19:40You're surviving.
19:41You guys have 45 minutes.
19:44Make the most of it.
19:45The pressure is on.
19:46Good.
19:47I'm actually very impressed with how this fits you.
19:49Okay.
19:50Oh, yes!
19:51The dress looks amazing.
19:53It fits her like a glove.
19:55The fit is perfect.
19:56So now I just have to add the flowers in denim.
19:59How long is this going to take?
20:01A few hours.
20:03I just want you to be mindful of not having too many ideas.
20:08Focus on getting the dress really elegant.
20:11Yeah, it looks really cool.
20:14Do something with your arm.
20:16Yeah, there we go.
20:17Oh, wow.
20:18Yeah, it looks great.
20:19I'm super happy.
20:20My jacket is coming together.
20:23I love the pockets on the side.
20:25Now I have to put the grommets on the collar.
20:28I really love it.
20:29I love it.
20:31Oh my God.
20:32This is so good.
20:33I'm so happy.
20:36I just worked so fast.
20:37You really don't have room to make mistakes here.
20:39And you have to take a gamble and hope it pays off.
20:42Oh my God.
20:43I love it.
20:44Let me see from afar.
20:46Yes.
20:47My model is looking amazing in this outfit.
20:49I still have things to finish.
20:51But this is an introduction to me.
20:52It needs to look flawless.
20:54And I think I can do that.
20:55All right, let's get you changed off.
20:58Designers, the fitting is officially over.
21:00Models, I need you guys out.
21:03Okay, bye.
21:04See you tomorrow.
21:05Bye.
21:06First runway show is tomorrow.
21:10So stay focused and get it done.
21:15Good night.
21:17Yeah, I know we've got work to do.
21:21It looks like it's almost there, but I still have to hand sew it.
21:24It's my first runway tomorrow and I do not want to be the first one to go home.
21:28So I'm hoping tomorrow I have enough time to polish everything up.
21:33All righty, folks.
21:34Time to wrap it up.
21:36Brilliant day, guys.
21:45All right, let's get it.
21:46Let's go runway day.
21:49Let's get started.
21:52It's the first runway of the entire competition.
21:55I'm feeling very secure.
21:56I just need to press the out of this dress.
22:00I need to distress the out of the hem.
22:02So I feel like I'm in a really great spot.
22:07Hey, designers.
22:09It is your very first runway day.
22:13Let's get your models in here.
22:18Look how good they look from the front.
22:20Great work, baby. We're going to eat on it.
22:22Designers, you have 30 minutes for your final fittings.
22:25The model is here and I am nowhere near ready.
22:35I have to use half of my fitting time to sew this denim floral applique.
22:41It took forever.
22:42Has this been on the model yet this morning?
22:44Not yet. I'm going to fit her now.
22:45I've got so much to do.
22:47The hem has to be done.
22:48Do you think I should leave it raw?
22:50No, I would work on perfecting it.
22:52Even if the judges come close to it, we don't want them to be like,
22:56I need some of it.
23:00I am not ready.
23:01Sorry, girl.
23:03You're stuck with this kind of designer.
23:05I still have the zipper to put together.
23:07I still have the hem to do.
23:09I'm nervous as hell because I don't have something finished.
23:13I took the zipper off to fix it.
23:15Wow. Okay.
23:16We've got to close it up and we've got to get this chalk off
23:17because we have literally 10 minutes.
23:19Okay, get off.
23:20Go, go, go, go.
23:21Hold on, hold on.
23:24Now turn to me.
23:26Alright, designers, it's time to bring your models to the L'Oreal Paris Glam Room.
23:34So the whole idea is she's a good girl gone bad.
23:38So I mainly wanted a hair up.
23:42So for hair and makeup, I'm thinking we go 1920s glam.
23:45My staple product in my kit is the Panorama Mascara.
23:50It's going to fan out your lashes, giving you corner to corner volume.
23:54The eyes are going to look bigger and lifted.
23:58Let's go to the runway. Let's do this.
24:01It looks so good.
24:03Alright, you're fraying the bottom.
24:08Yeah, I'm trying to.
24:09I feel like you're last minute trying to do something that you don't need to do.
24:14Last looks, everyone.
24:16Oh, .
24:17Just went right through.
24:18Okay, we're good.
24:20Alright, designers, let's go.
24:22Camaro has a dress.
24:26I'm hoping that I'm at least safe.
24:28Let's get to the runway.
24:30Wish me luck.
24:49Hello, designers.
24:50Hi.
24:52Welcome to your first runway.
24:53Yeah.
24:56Tonight, first impressions are everything.
25:00Your challenge was to create a high fashion, all denim look that reflects your design DNA.
25:07We want to see your designer jeans.
25:11There are 12 of you now.
25:13But after tonight, only 11 will continue on in the competition.
25:17It's time to meet your judges.
25:21Fashion designer, Spencer Badu.
25:25Hey, designers.
25:27Journalist and fashion television legend, the Jeanne Becker.
25:34Hey, everybody. Hi. Great to see you all.
25:36And our special guest judge.
25:39He's dressed Viola Davis, Michelle Obama, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
25:44Wow.
25:46Please welcome designer Jason Wu.
25:48Hi, designers.
25:52We'll be scoring your designs as they come down the runway.
25:56Let's start the show.
26:00Wow.
26:01So good.
26:02I have full body chills.
26:11The fit is fitting.
26:13The hat is sitting.
26:15This is a completely authentic expression of my experience as being a non-binary individual.
26:21Oh.
26:24I'm not used to making menswear at all, but this garment definitely represents my aesthetic, especially with the D-rings and the harnesses.
26:32It's so good, dude.
26:36I've really honed in on what my style is, and that's just rock and roll.
26:38I'm super proud.
26:44This look is powerful.
26:46The collar is sharp.
26:48I feel like it all came together.
26:56I'm just so obsessed with my look.
26:59The ombre, the colors are working, the shape is working.
27:03It's a really proud moment.
27:09Anxiety is just through the roof.
27:13All I see is the imperfections, but the flow, the elegance.
27:19This is a definition of who I am as a designer.
27:22I just hope they see the beauty in what I made.
27:25My look is elegant.
27:35It's timeless.
27:36It's sophisticated.
27:38But did I do enough?
27:40I have some doubts.
27:46Oh, yeah.
27:48I am super proud of what I've created.
27:50This is very representative of who I am as a designer.
27:54With this look, I'm really trying to prove that I am one of the top competitors.
28:01You do that. You do that.
28:05It's amazing seeing my look come down the runway.
28:09This look screams Maya in every way.
28:12It plays with masculinity, femininity, historical references.
28:17I love it.
28:23I want to show the judges that my culture influences my fashion, but it can also be high fashion for the runway.
28:31The hood is a cultural design feature I learned from my great-grandmother.
28:36I hope they see something in my design.
28:44Oh.
28:46That corset looks so good on her.
28:48It's so snatched.
28:49It literally is hitting her in all the right places.
28:52And then the pants match perfectly.
28:57Head to toe denim.
28:58Canadian tuxedo to the max.
29:01I have come so far with this design.
29:08I made multiple garments.
29:10I have come back from the trenches.
29:13And I produced something that I am proud of.
29:17My blood is draining from my body.
29:22Ooh.
29:24I love it.
29:25I've never seen a look like this before.
29:27I painted with fabric.
29:29And I feel like I'm showing all of my technical skills that I've amassed through decades of fashion.
29:34How the do this?
29:43This looks really good.
29:46Designers, please step up to the runway.
29:48To the runway.
29:54Tonight, some of your looks spoke volumes.
29:57While others barely whispered.
30:02When I call your name, please step forward.
30:07Rome.
30:09Littlefeather.
30:12Charles.
30:14Cat.
30:16Dallarumic.
30:18And...
30:20Delaine.
30:25If I called your name, you are in.
30:28And can leave the runway.
30:29Congratulations.
30:37Sorry.
30:39What a relief.
30:42Goodness.
30:44That means the six of you make up the highest and the lowest scores.
30:48One of you will be our winner, and one of you will be out.
30:53So let's look at one of our faves of the night.
30:56Oh.
31:00Thank the Lord.
31:02Yes.
31:04Curtis, I got flight attendant vibes out of this.
31:07I was looking at a lot of denim, and it took me to a super masculine, tough, workwear-type area.
31:14Which then drew my mind to flip that completely on its head.
31:18This is an amazing representation of exactly what my designs are all about.
31:22Congratulations.
31:24I really loved this.
31:26The structure, the style.
31:28This is truly couture-worthy, and you really did elevate denim to new heights.
31:35I couldn't even tell it was denim.
31:37This was a great piece.
31:38I think it really shows who you are as a designer.
31:41My only critique was the neckline at the back.
31:43It did feel a bit loose.
31:44I would just tighten that up.
31:46The hat looks good.
31:47A lot of times people ruin their looks.
31:48It's like that one accessory, you know?
31:50So I thought that was really nicely done.
31:53Thank you, Curtis.
31:54Great job.
31:56And now let's see one of our least favorite looks of the night.
32:02The bottom.
32:04Foster, you brought flowers to the denim challenge.
32:07High fashion to me is simplicity and also timelessness.
32:10And I wanted to show the delicate side of denim by using a floral motif.
32:17I always appreciate the charm of a great applique, but I didn't understand why you decided to go for an unfinished hem.
32:26The top seems very, like, sophisticated, so detailed.
32:30And then at the bottom, that's an undone edge.
32:33I think it's just too many ideas in one dress.
32:36The biggest issue would be the fit.
32:37I just don't think it was flattering.
32:39Thank you, Foster.
32:41I don't know. I love his piece.
32:43Let's bring out another one of our favorite looks.
32:44Maya, you gave us a new romantic moment. Walk us through it.
32:55The Canadian tuxedo, to me, comes from that history of Canadian frontier and people needing really strong, durable materials to be able to survive.
33:03I wanted to bring that to the elevation of a night out.
33:07I want that jacket. I want the look. Let's put it on my body now.
33:11The jacket was really nice. I like the cusset.
33:14It is a nice way to bring softness into denim.
33:18My only critique is I don't think the bag was necessary. Did you make the bag?
33:22No, I did not make the bag.
33:23You know, sometimes when you design, you just kind of have to edit.
33:26The bag, to me, gave this outfit another level of story.
33:31I think that's one of the biggest compliments an outfit can get.
33:35Thanks, Maya.
33:37This next look was one of our least favorites.
33:45Oh, no.
33:48Namo, you kept this look pretty simple.
33:52It's an expression of myself, which is simplicity and elegance.
33:56And I also like flowy things.
33:58I just really felt that you weren't pushing it enough.
34:02What's new here?
34:03This is a look that I've seen a gazillion times.
34:07I'm all for a simple dress.
34:08But when you do simple, it has to be perfect.
34:11And this was not.
34:13The corset isn't as impeccable as some of your peers.
34:16Yeah, initially when I saw the look, it felt really safe.
34:19I didn't really feel like you came through in this dress.
34:21I would have loved to see a bit more risk-taking.
34:24You are subtle.
34:25You are quiet.
34:26So maybe this is you.
34:28Like I do do more couture detailed work.
34:32Give me that, Namo.
34:34Thank you, Namo.
34:35And our final favorite look of the night.
34:42Yay!
34:44Leland, tell us how you brought so many elements together here.
34:48So one thing I really wanted to do was incorporate the light acid wash
34:52and really go for a fashion moment here.
34:55It made me giddy.
34:57I felt this was the Britney Spears Mad Max moment.
35:01That deconstructive sort of cape, it looked quite gorgeous.
35:04When I saw it come down the runway, I noticed the shoes and I was like,
35:07whoa, this is like a whole look.
35:08So for a first impression, I'm really excited to see what we have in store.
35:12Well, it's a wow, no question.
35:15The corset is perfection.
35:17One critique I would have is I think the pants are a little over ruched,
35:21but it's hard to do messy.
35:23And I think you've done a really good job.
35:26Thank you, Leland.
35:28And our final lowest score.
35:32But she's a 10.
35:33She is a 10.
35:35Hi.
35:36So, Naomi, patchwork and a beliru.
35:39Interesting combo.
35:40Let's walk through it.
35:42I prototyped multiple things and I wasted hours.
35:46And when I finally decided what I wanted to do,
35:49I didn't quite have the time to execute it the way I'd like to.
35:53To me, I see two different personalities here.
35:55I think the little bolero jacket shows some promise.
35:57The dress is where you fall short.
35:59I think this was maybe overly ambitious.
36:02And right now, I don't really know who you are as a designer.
36:05I think it just seemed a bit confusing.
36:08Maybe you have to develop your voice a bit more.
36:10I like the bolero.
36:12I thought that worked.
36:14A lot of the rest of the dress really fell apart.
36:16Especially, you know, from the hip down.
36:18It just looked like a mess.
36:20The bottom part, it just didn't go with the top.
36:23And you've got to give me that storytelling.
36:25Thank you, Naomi.
36:28Thank you so much.
36:31Thank you, designers.
36:33You've given us a lot to think about.
36:35It's time for some tough decisions.
36:37You can leave the runway.
36:46Hello.
36:47Hi.
36:49Hi.
36:51Hi.
36:52Okay, judges, our top three.
36:55Leland, Curtis, and Maya.
36:57Who do we think should win?
36:59They're all so good and so promising.
37:01Leland's, it was really nice.
37:03I mean, the jacket, cape situation.
37:05I mean, that's really impeccably made.
37:07And the corset, very clean.
37:09Leland was impressive.
37:11Just the sheer amount of things that Leland pumped out.
37:13You can really see that he put everything on the table.
37:15Three different pieces that could live on their own,
37:17but they actually danced cohesively together.
37:20Maya.
37:21Look, I loved this look.
37:24There was so much compelling storytelling.
37:26Loved it.
37:27I really understood the world that she was creating.
37:30I knew the character.
37:31Like, she really delivered in terms of putting an outfit that worked for the model.
37:37There's a point of view.
37:38But there's a point of view with Curtis as well.
37:39That was a shape that I kind of thought was fantastic.
37:42I mean, the silhouette.
37:43The craftsmanship.
37:44Stunning.
37:45Really well executed.
37:46Details were amazing.
37:48The little hat.
37:49It was meticulous and obviously crafted by someone who really knows what they're doing.
37:54Okay, I think we have our winner.
37:55Now, who do we think should be going home?
37:58Naimo, Foster, or Naomi?
38:02Let's start with Naimo.
38:04It really just looked like a black dress.
38:05Yeah.
38:06I didn't feel like there was a sense of innovation.
38:08I mean, if you're going to give me a black dress, it better be impeccable.
38:11Yeah.
38:12And it was not.
38:13It was messy.
38:14She's just the one that just seems to fall to the back.
38:17And I know it's not about attitude, but there is something about attitude.
38:20Well, there is.
38:21And you can see the attitude in Naomi's clothing.
38:25I like the bolero.
38:26I thought it was kind of cute.
38:27Yeah, the bolero was the best part.
38:28The best part.
38:29Put the end.
38:30It's really a question of a lack of design sophistication.
38:35I think that's Naomi's problem.
38:37And I do think Foster already has that design sophistication.
38:41But, you know, like, that dress was terrible.
38:43It didn't fit.
38:44The flowers looked very crafty, but not in a good way.
38:47In a good way.
38:48I don't know who he is as a designer looking at that dress.
38:50But I want to see a little bit more.
38:52The raw hem, I would have loved to see it, you know, cleaned.
38:55Maybe a bit of a blind hem or...
38:57Blind hem wasn't going to help that dress, let's face it.
38:59It looks like we made our decision.
39:07Curtis, Maya, and Leland.
39:16You've established yourselves as the ones to watch in this competition.
39:20But there can only be one winner.
39:24The winning designer is...
39:32Leland.
39:33Hey!
39:34Oh!
39:35These buttons are popping!
39:36Yeah!
39:37Yay!
39:38Yay!
39:39Oh!
39:40I can't believe I won.
39:42Like, what?
39:43I'm happy that I've really showcased myself and, like, my art.
39:46So good.
39:47Thank you, thank you.
39:48Oh, my God.
39:49That means Curtis and Maya, you are also in.
39:52The three of you can lead the runway.
39:54Thank you all.
39:55Congratulations.
39:56We have a winner.
39:57Yay!
39:58That's so good.
39:59I'm so proud of you, honey.
40:00I told you.
40:01Namo, Foster, and Naomi, unfortunately, one of you will be out.
40:17You are in.
40:18You can lead the runway.
40:19Thank you so much.
40:20It all comes down to this.
40:34Naomi, you're all denim distressed us, and not in the right way.
40:45I'm sorry, but you are out.
40:48Oh.
40:49Oh, my God.
40:50No, you deserve this.
40:53Namo, you're still in.
40:56You can leave the runway.
40:58I'm just honestly glad to be here.
41:00I met amazing people.
41:01I'm very motivated, and I know I have a very bright future ahead of me.
41:05I agree.
41:06You're gonna kill it.
41:07Thanks, guys.
41:08Oh, I love it.
41:10We'll kill it.
41:12Take care.
41:13Bye.
41:14Can I post?
41:15Yes.
41:16Go, queen.
41:17Love.
41:18Hmm.
41:19Uh-oh.
41:20Here she's coming.
41:23It was so lovely to be amongst all of you.
41:26This experience would not have been the same without you.
41:29Hi, guys.
41:30Aurora.
41:31I'm really proud of you.
41:33You have a lot of creativity.
41:35You have a lot of courage.
41:36Can I get a hug?
41:37Yes.
41:38Can we get a group hug?
41:39Yes.
41:40I think I've grown way more than I expected to grow.
41:44This experience was overwhelming, and I let my mind get the best of me.
41:50But this is just the beginning for me.
41:52Maybe I'll be back.
41:54Next time on Project Runway Canada, I'm pairing you up with content creators for your very
42:04first real client challenge.
42:06Oh, my God.
42:07It's a client challenge.
42:09This week is about showing them what we got.
42:12Oh.
42:13I want to see lots of glamour tomorrow.
42:15At the end of the day, it's about keeping the client happy.
42:19I'm just, like, not seeing the vision here yet.
42:22The white face?
42:23It looks like something my mom would wear.
42:25So what are we going to do?
42:26We need a plan.
42:27I need to think.
42:28Let me think.
