'Jumanji: The Next Level' is pacing for domestic debut of at least $40 million over the Dec. 13-15 weekend, according to early tracking.

00:00Although we're still a few weeks out until the film hits theaters,
00:03Sony's Jumanji The Next Level is pacing for a solid domestic debut.
00:08According to early tracking, the sequel to 2017's Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle,
00:12which is set to debut over the December 13th through 15th weekend,
00:15is pacing for a $40 million opening. Box office analysts, who have access to
00:19pre-release tracking, believe it could even approach $50 million domestically.
00:23However, tracking services, along with Sony, are being a bit more cautious
00:27considering that a number of sequels have struggled in recent weeks.
00:30The Next Level reunites Welcome to the Jungle stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart,
00:34Karen Gillan and Nick Jonas, and the sequel is also welcoming newcomers to the film,
00:39which include Awkwafina, Danny Glover and Danny DeVito.
00:42Sony's sequel opens one week before Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters,
00:46and like all movies opening in the latter half of December, are hoping for strong numbers
00:50since the week between Christmas Day and New Year's Day is the biggest movie-going stretch
00:54of the calendar year.
00:55Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle launched on the Wednesday before Christmas Day in 2017,
01:00and rolled out a five-day debut of $52 million, including $36 million for the weekend,
01:05before going on its way to grossing an incredible $405 million domestically.
01:10So one can only hope that The Next Level reaches a similar fee.
