Disney and Lucasfilm's followup to ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ is generating enormous interest among moviegoers for a projected $200 million-plus domestic debut when hitting theaters Dec. 15, according to early tracking.

00:00It looks like The Force will very much be with Star Wars The Last Jedi at the box office.
00:13The follow-up to Star Wars The Force Awakens from Disney and Lucasfilm is building enormous
00:18interest among moviegoers and is projected to kick off with $200 million or more domestically
00:25in its December 15 release. Writer-director Rian Johnson's sequel would become one of only
00:30a few films to ever reach that mark. Force Awakens revived the iconic franchise by opening
00:36in December 2015 to a record-breaking $248 million in North America. That film was followed
00:43by the standalone title Rogue One A Star Wars Story in December 2016, which debuted with
00:49$155.1 million domestically. Apart from Force Awakens, other films with the $200 million-plus
00:57opening are Jurassic World, which brought in $208.8 million, and The Avengers, which kicked
01:04off with $207.4 million. And while studios never comment on tracking, Disney insiders are anticipating
01:11that The Last Jedi will overtake their fellow Disney film Beauty and the Beast, which brought
01:16in $174.8 million to land the top opening of 2017 so far.
01:22Meanwhile, Disney and Lucasfilm just released their latest ad for The Last Jedi, and it shows
01:27Daisy Ridley's hero Rey in a tough spot.
01:30The clip, which premiered just three weeks before the film hits theaters on December 15, reveals
01:37that light, darkness, and something else is calling to her.
