00:00Netflix boss Ted Sarandos said the talks between SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP fell apart on Wednesday
00:05because of an additional levy the actors' union was proposing.
00:09Sarandos has been one of four CEOs who sat in on negotiations with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA.
00:15Speaking at a Bloomberg conference on Thursday, Sarandos said they had offered SAG-AFTRA a
00:20success-based bonus, which he said was similar to the writer's deal. That was rejected and the
00:25counter was this levy on every subscriber and prior to that was a levy on all revenue, where
00:30basically the union will take a certain amount of money for every subscriber to a service.
00:34He continued, that issue that we got resolved with the writers was not only accepted in the deal,
00:39but ratified by a 99% vote of the Writers Guild. So I know that all these guilds are not created
00:45equal and they all have different needs, but like I said, that is one that worked, that rewarded
00:49success, which we agreed with. The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers announced
00:53on Wednesday that they have halted talks with SAG-AFTRA, given that the gap between the two
00:58parties is, quote, too great. However, SAG-AFTRA shot back at the AMPTP, telling members that the
01:03studios walked away from talks with the union and accused them of using bullying tactics and
01:08misrepresenting to the press by overstating the costs of the proposal. Sarandos added that he and the
01:14other CEOs are committed to making a deal as long as the talks are progressing, but he said the talks
01:19Wednesday night were not steady and, quote, not progressive. But he said the talks Wednesday
01:23night were, quote, not steady or progressive. For more on the story, head to THR.com. And for
