Netflix has landed the Ted Melfi-directed dramedy 'The Starling,' which re-teams the filmmaker with his 'St. Vincent' star Melissa McCarthy.

00:04The Ted Melfi-directed film, written by Matt Harris, follows a married couple, played by McCarthy and Chris O'Dowd,
00:10who try to deal with the grief of a tragedy in their own ways.
00:13McCarthy's character becomes comically obsessed with a starling bird that is nested in her backyard and begins to harass and attack her.
00:20She eventually finds guidance from a quirky psychologist-turned-veterinarian, played by Kevin Kline, with a troubled past of his own.
00:26The two form a unique and unlikely friendship as they help each other explore, acknowledge, and confront their problems.
00:32Film will reunite Melfi and McCarthy, who last worked together on his film St. Vincent.
00:36The starling, which is currently in post-production, also stars a large ensemble cast that includes David Diggs, Loretta Devine, and Timothy Olyphant.
00:44This is the latest big acquisition for Netflix, who recently picked up the previously theater-bound comedy The Lovebirds,
00:50starring Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani from Paramount.
00:53That film was pulled from its April 3rd theatrical release amid growing concerns around the coronavirus.
