00:00I love the colour, but yeah, it's not, it's too bright.
00:05The intensity at the moment, so close to the end, is ridiculous.
00:13Well, if he doesn't do it on Thursday, it won't be done in time.
00:16He's pushing it already.
00:18I'm just having to leave it all in John's hands.
00:23It just couldn't be worse timing, really.
00:27We'll do it, we'll find.
00:30I think it's pretty touch-and-go as to whether everything will be finished for the housewarming party.
00:39It's too close to call.
00:44The house is sort of under control.
00:48Nothing to panic about.
00:49That wall is giving us a lot of grey hairs.
00:51We're going to have this lovely party.
00:53Just behind us is going to be this grey, ugly beast.
00:58Don't wind me up.
01:00In hindsight, maybe I shouldn't have called her.
01:02The guitarist, una guitarista.
01:05I can't even say the bloody basics.
01:06How am I going to get a band?
01:07We've only got 24 hours till our housewarming party,
01:11so there's still quite a lot to do inside.
01:13I probably will have to put it all nighter to get it all ready for tomorrow.
01:17So I've got that one, I've got that one,
01:18but then the little ones haven't arrived.
01:20We're exhausted, but we're ready to party.
01:29It's actually making me emotional.
01:31On the Costa del Sol in Estepona,
01:42Jasmine and John are just two days away
01:44from hosting a housewarming party for friends and family.
01:47However, many sections of the house,
01:51including the garden, need finishing off.
01:54Without Jasmine able to oversee the work,
01:57as she's filming in Portugal.
01:59I am away for a few days with work
02:02and feeling a bit guilty, to be honest,
02:06because I've left John with the kids off school,
02:10with the renovation coming down to the wire.
02:12I've tried to organise as much as I can before I left,
02:14but still I'm, yeah, just worrying about things
02:19and feeling bad for leaving him
02:22to deal with it all single-handedly.
02:23It feels like quite a long time
02:27since I've been left home alone.
02:30Jazz left me quite a big list of things
02:32that need to be finished.
02:34I mean, the headlines are
02:35the garden is nowhere near finished,
02:36there's no grass on the floor,
02:38the wall in the back garden is nowhere near finished,
02:41the living room is not finished.
02:44Basically, perfect time for Jazz to be away.
02:47The party itself also needs some attention.
02:50We need to organise food, drinks,
02:52maybe a surprise and some entertainment,
02:53so, yeah, not only do we have the renovation to do
02:56while Jazz is away,
02:58we also have to make sure the party
02:59can happen in the first place.
03:02John's biggest challenge could be the garden wall.
03:05It's the last piece of major work on the renovation
03:07and it's a lengthy process for lead plasterer, Matt.
03:12Yeah, I'm reigning,
03:14I'm trying to straighten out the wall.
03:17And as soon as I've finished straightening it out,
03:21then we put a final coat,
03:23it's white,
03:24it's a very fine aggregate.
03:26It has lime in it,
03:27it's breathable,
03:28and waterproof as well.
03:30And that'll be the finished coat on it,
03:31then just painted,
03:32and then that's it.
03:34Matt can't apply the final coat until tomorrow
03:36once the render is dry,
03:38which is why there's a danger
03:40of missing the party deadline.
03:41I'm a bonus confident
03:43of winning the lottery.
03:45Well, we're trying.
03:49We're trying.
03:51Trying our best.
03:52It's all we can do.
03:53That wall is giving us a lot of grey hairs.
03:56Jazz and I have huge concerns
03:57that we're going to have this lovely party.
04:00Just behind us or to our left
04:01is going to be this sort of grey, ugly beast.
04:06Until the wall is completed,
04:08the garden also can't be finished.
04:10The site has to be clear of building work
04:12before the turf that's just arrived
04:14can be lamed.
04:16It's been on the truck.
04:18Yeah, once we get it over there,
04:20we'll give it a good water.
04:25We're wrestling turf.
04:28I'd say,
04:29of all the things we've ordered,
04:31turf is the one thing
04:32you don't want to arrive early
04:33in 35 degree heat.
04:35All right.
04:36You got me as well, though.
04:38Oh, sorry.
04:43And so now we've all just
04:45hoofed the turf
04:45from the very hot, sunny front of the house
04:47to the only naturally shady patch
04:50around the back of the house.
04:59Hope that we can get that turf down.
05:01If not, I fear that we've just
05:03wasted a pallet for the turf.
05:05It's got a human chain of turf.
05:09Just need to remember
05:10to hose and water the turf
05:12along with the plants,
05:14otherwise Jazz is going to come back
05:15and we'll have dead turf
05:16and dead plants,
05:17which is a distinct possibility.
05:18I'm not very green-fingered.
05:20Anyway, we've now got turf
05:21sitting around waiting to be laid.
05:22Meanwhile, in the lounge,
05:27the marble floor that now extends
05:30through to the kitchen
05:30is being polished.
05:32Look at that.
05:35Bien, bien.
05:38Unless you look really closely,
05:39you can barely see where the old tiles end
05:42and the new ones start.
05:44I mean, it looks amazing.
05:45The old floor, I am guessing,
05:49was at least 15, possibly 20 years old
05:53and the new floor, it's just gone down.
05:55It blends seamlessly.
05:57I was sceptical.
05:58I stand very corrected.
06:01John can now green-light
06:02bringing in the first piece of furniture,
06:05the new sofa.
06:05Getting furniture like the sofa
06:09sort of inter-situ in the living room,
06:11you feel like this is it.
06:13We are definitely on the downhill straight.
06:19Furniture's going into place.
06:21The floor has been polished.
06:22Let's get this done.
06:26Outside in the garden,
06:28the rendering of the wall is gathering pace,
06:30allowing John to turn his attention
06:32to another important task.
06:34Jasmine hasn't a clue
06:40that he's secretly planning
06:41live entertainment for the party.
06:47I need to knuckle down with my Spanish
06:49to try and organise something for this surprise
06:51because, you know,
06:53entertainment, partying, music,
06:56it's not an element of my
06:57limited Spanish vocabulary
06:59that I know anything about.
07:01So John's turning to a language app for help.
07:04I've been winging everything
07:14since we got to Spain.
07:16I'd say I've bumbled through
07:17my Spanish classes.
07:19Much like this entire renovation.
07:20I should have been practising about six months ago,
07:29but life and renovation and family
07:31have slightly gone in the way.
07:33I can't even say the bloody basics.
07:39How am I going to get a band?
07:42But there's no more time for dress rehearsals,
07:45so John has little choice
07:47but to take the plunge.
07:48Good afternoon.
07:51My name is John.
07:54Is this disponible
07:55for dancing
07:58for a party
07:59on Saturday?
08:02Oh, I'm sorry.
08:03OK, nothing's going to happen.
08:05I did understand
08:06that she wasn't available on Saturday.
08:08I think that's the key.
08:09Hola, hablo con Julio.
08:12Está disponible para tocar
08:14en una fiesta el sábado.
08:19¿Cuánto es?
08:21Para todo.
08:22Perfecto.
08:24Tremendo un mensaje
08:26con el details
08:28of mi caza.
08:31Perfecto.
08:31Gracias.
08:32Let's see
08:34if Huli
08:35turns up
08:37on Saturday.
08:39I might have just
08:40booked a juggler
08:41for next Thursday,
08:42but, you know,
08:43hey-ho.
08:47It's another whole day
08:49before Jasmine returns,
08:51but John wants
08:51to keep her in the loop.
08:53I know Jazz
08:54will be secretly wondering
08:55what's going on back here
08:57while she works in Portugal,
08:58so I'm going to try
08:59and catch her
09:00when she's not working
09:01and give her a quick phone call.
09:04Hello.
09:05Hi.
09:06How's work?
09:07It's fine.
09:08We're just waiting
09:09for something
09:09and then we can carry on filming,
09:11so I might not have much time.
09:13I know you're working hard,
09:14but I actually think
09:15getting out of the house
09:16for a few days
09:17has probably
09:18done you some good.
09:21Yeah,
09:21before I have a complete meltdown
09:23and start shouting at everyone.
09:24How are the kids,
09:25by the way?
09:27Are you seeing me?
09:28I'm not sure
09:29they've noticed you've gone.
09:30Now, um...
09:31Rude.
09:33So, yeah,
09:34the house is
09:35sort of under control.
09:38The electrician's here tomorrow
09:39and I think he'll be here
09:40for most of the day,
09:40but, you know,
09:41fingers crossed the light's alive,
09:43he can fit those
09:43on the exterior wall,
09:45he can finish
09:45some light fittings
09:46that we need
09:47around the house.
09:48So because we're behind
09:49on the wall,
09:50we've currently got
09:51lots of turf
09:52rolled up,
09:53drying out.
09:54Well,
09:55I am watering it,
09:56obviously,
09:56but I'm drying
09:57under the trees,
09:58so it'll be fine,
09:58don't worry.
09:59It's just annoying,
10:00isn't it,
10:00with the best will
10:01in the world,
10:02things just
10:03go wrong,
10:05don't they?
10:05When you've got
10:06the best laid plans.
10:08But when you've got
10:08a schedule this tight,
10:09you know...
10:09I thought I'd just
10:10sort of get sleeping out.
10:12Yeah.
10:12Right, I've got to go.
10:13I'll call you
10:14when I finish work.
10:15Nothing to panic about.
10:16You did want
10:17the front room
10:18cupboards purple,
10:19didn't you?
10:20Don't wind me up.
10:22Don't wind me up.
10:23Speak to you later.
10:24Bye,
10:25I love you,
10:25bye.
10:25Bye.
10:27I'm not entirely sure
10:28if that phone call
10:29has set Jaz's mind
10:31at rest
10:32or given her
10:32more to worry about.
10:34In hindsight,
10:35maybe I shouldn't
10:35have called her,
10:37but it's fine.
10:37Everything is going
10:38well here.
10:39Just be going
10:40a bit better
10:40when she's back
10:41to help.
10:42The renovation team
11:03now have only
11:03one working day
11:05before Jasmine
11:05and John's
11:06housewarming party
11:07to finish the job.
11:08So head builder
11:09Dominic
11:10is rallying
11:11the troops
11:11for one
11:12final push.
11:14The priority
11:15today
11:15is the garden wall
11:17and the cappuccino-ing
11:19right across it.
11:20Massive
11:20amount of work
11:22in one day
11:22in 40 degrees.
11:24We're running
11:25out of time,
11:25but we'll get there.
11:29You can feel
11:30it's there dragging
11:31because it's wet.
11:33You can see
11:34a couple of dents
11:35in there
11:35and then it's
11:37just filled in
11:38and gets it
11:39smoother.
11:41If you see
11:43a little blemish,
11:44you just rub it in.
11:45Exactly, yeah.
11:49With Jasmine
11:50expected home
11:50later in the day,
11:52John's checking
11:52on progress.
11:54Oh, yes.
11:57Looking good.
11:59Looking amazing,
12:00in fact.
12:01Looks like
12:02a totally
12:03different wall.
12:04Hopefully,
12:05it's done in time
12:05to get the turf
12:06on this afternoon.
12:09Next,
12:10John is tackling
12:10another important task,
12:12picking up some
12:13essential supplies
12:14for the housewarming.
12:16The house isn't finished
12:17and we're not ready
12:17for the party,
12:18but I thought
12:19it was the perfect time
12:20to leave the house again
12:21and go for a little shop.
12:28A few weeks ago,
12:29the family discovered
12:30a local vegan market
12:31and were so impressed
12:33they've booked
12:34the same caterers,
12:35leaving John responsible
12:36only for snacks
12:38and refreshments.
12:40Right.
12:42I've done well.
12:43I've made a list.
12:44It's more than I normally do.
12:46I mean, basically,
12:46it's drinks.
12:47Drinks and drinks.
12:48I want a young,
12:55fruity,
12:56easy-drinking red
12:57for Tinto de Valano.
13:00Table wine
13:01mixed with soda
13:01is a popular
13:02cold drink in Spain.
13:07I'm easily sidetracked
13:09when it comes
13:10to wine shopping
13:11or any shopping
13:12in general.
13:13I'm not sure
13:13many people
13:14who drink white wine,
13:15but a white Rioja
13:15for anyone that does.
13:18I probably need
13:19some Prosecco
13:20or some Cava.
13:22Right, come on.
13:23Make a decision.
13:24Buy some Cava
13:25and get to the beer.
13:37Ha-ha, beer.
13:39And it's on offer.
13:40I feel like
13:45I'm being the least decisive
13:47I've been in quite a while.
13:51I feel like Jazz and I
13:52are at the end
13:52of a very long few months.
13:55I mean, it's great
13:56to look at what we've got
13:56at the end of it,
13:57but it doesn't take away
13:58from the fact
13:58we're exhausted,
14:00but we're ready to party.
14:04Mission accomplished.
14:06A trolley full of
14:07refreshments, drinks,
14:09crisps and olives.
14:09On the way home,
14:13John is making
14:14a stop-off
14:15at a vegan bakery
14:17where earlier in the year
14:18Joy and Albion
14:19had a hands-on lesson.
14:21Oh, wow!
14:25Gabriella!
14:26After that,
14:27as another party surprise
14:29for Jasmine,
14:30John knows exactly
14:31what to order.
14:33Cinnamon rolls
14:34like you did
14:34with the kids
14:35and a chocolate cake.
14:37And a chocolate cake.
14:38And also,
14:39you're obviously
14:39very welcome
14:40to come to the party.
14:41Aw, thank you very much
14:42for the invitation.
14:44Hopefully,
14:44the house will be finished.
14:45The way we're going,
14:46there might be some
14:47wet paint on the walls
14:48and stuff like that,
14:50but it'll be fine.
14:50Lovely.
14:51Come, wait to see it.
14:52Aw, thank you so much.
14:53Thank you very much.
14:54I'll see you on Saturday.
14:56Perfect.
14:56Bye.
14:57There's another box
14:58ticked off my to-do list
15:00for the party.
15:01Cakes organised.
15:02We need to sort out
15:03everything else.
15:04And not to mention
15:05my enormous to-do list
15:06for the house.
15:10John's top priority
15:12has been the garden wall
15:13and turfing the area
15:14around the pool.
15:16In the time he's been away
15:17on his shopping expedition,
15:19that's all been done
15:20and dusted.
15:25While inside,
15:27Martin, the electrician,
15:28has been fitting
15:28the last of the plug sockets.
15:33Which means
15:34a momentous milestone
15:35has been reached
15:36as the builders
15:37and the team
15:38are now officially finished
15:39on the renovation.
15:41Come on, Quinn.
15:42Here you go.
15:44Aw, yeah.
15:45It's a top one.
15:46Thank you very much.
15:46Cheers, dude.
15:47Come on.
15:48Thanks so much.
15:48Honestly, thank you.
15:49Thank you for all your work.
15:51Cheers, mate.
15:51Honestly, thank you for everything.
15:52No worries, mate.
15:53Especially this week.
15:54Everyone's been busting their gut.
15:56Dom, last but not least,
15:57who is someone who drinks.
15:58If it were cold, mate,
15:58I'll drink them all now.
15:59Well, I've had to say
16:00if they were cold,
16:01I would have drunk them all now.
16:02You wouldn't have got to, you.
16:05Oh, we can do it like
16:06a tiered one, like a...
16:07Oh, my God.
16:08It's not a football team.
16:10Jasmine has returned
16:11from Portugal
16:11in the nick of time
16:13to join in
16:13on a team photo.
16:15Ready?
16:17Back to...
16:18Good work.
16:21Good work.
16:22Thanks, everyone.
16:24Cheers, chaps.
16:29After the farewells,
16:31Jasmine is getting stuck
16:32into the remaining job
16:33she needs to do
16:34around the house.
16:37I think I'll have to go away
16:39more often
16:39because I can't believe
16:40the amount that they've managed
16:41to get done
16:42in such a short space of time.
16:43so much has changed.
16:46The floor's been polished.
16:48The wall's been finished.
16:51The grass is down.
16:53That's what happens
16:54when you put the pressure on
16:56and we've only got 24 hours
16:58till our housewarming party
17:00so there's still quite a lot
17:02to do inside.
17:03You know, putting all the little
17:03finishing touches everywhere.
17:06So hopefully,
17:07I won't have to pull
17:08an all-nighter
17:08but I don't know.
17:10I probably will have to
17:11pull an all-nighter
17:12to get it all ready
17:13for tomorrow.
17:15Since the lounge
17:16is the first room
17:17guests will see
17:18when they walk
17:18in the front door,
17:19Jasmine's paying
17:20it particular attention.
17:23I need to use
17:24my internal spirit level.
17:26Straight in.
17:30What do we do
17:31on this wall?
17:31We haven't really...
17:32Well, these are two
17:34of the items
17:35that were meant
17:36to go on the wall.
17:36They are supposed to be
17:38part of a gallery wall
17:40with some other
17:41smaller prints
17:42and a mirror
17:42and, you know,
17:44a plate
17:44and lots of things
17:45but some of the other...
17:46Some people know
17:46what you mean.
17:47Some of the other stuff
17:48hasn't arrived
17:48so I'm not sure
17:49how to approach it
17:51because it's supposed
17:52to look like this.
17:53We've found some other...
17:54Oh, yeah, that's nice.
17:57Really nice.
17:59So I've got that one
18:00and I've got that one
18:01and I've got that one
18:02but then the little ones
18:03haven't arrived.
18:05Also, I feel like
18:05if this was the UK
18:07we'd go up in the loft
18:09and get, like, some bits
18:10and make it all work
18:10but here we're kind of...
18:12Which is that an idea?
18:13We'll go back to the UK tonight.
18:14What about those Ingella prints?
18:16You know the panther
18:17and the tiger?
18:20The kids' bedrooms.
18:22They would look
18:22super nice in here.
18:27Oh, no.
18:28What was it, though?
18:29It's now the evening
18:44before Jasmine and John's
18:46housewarming guests arrive
18:47and parts of the house
18:48are still in an unfinished state.
18:53In the main bedroom,
18:55Jasmine's finding a home
18:56for some last-minute deliveries.
18:58You could also go
18:59in the living room
19:00but I think they'll be fine.
19:02While John's also adding
19:04some finishing touches.
19:08Outside in the garden,
19:10an extra pair of helping hands
19:11have arrived to sort out
19:12the borders.
19:13I love my neighbours.
19:16I'm so lucky
19:17to have such
19:19nice neighbours.
19:21Manuel is doing
19:22the garden for us.
19:24He's a gardener.
19:25And it's looking
19:27absolutely fantastic.
19:29And he's putting
19:29all these beautiful plants in.
19:33Oh, it's a delivery.
19:35Let's see what it is.
19:39I've been waiting
19:40for a delivery
19:41of some garden furniture
19:42and they told me
19:44it would arrive
19:45and it's 8 o'clock
19:46at night
19:47and it's just arrived
19:48literally the night
19:49before the housewarming party.
19:51So,
19:52someone is looking down
19:54on me.
19:56Cuidado con el césped.
19:58El tepe está nueva.
20:00No puede...
20:01It's her.
20:08Oh, just in time.
20:09For all our visitors
20:11tomorrow,
20:12we'll have something
20:12for them to sit on.
20:19I'm actually
20:20so happy
20:21with the garden.
20:29It's actually
20:30making me emotional
20:31because...
20:32because
20:35it's been through
20:36my lovely neighbours
20:39who've helped
20:40with all the plants
20:42and all the actual gardening
20:43and my lovely friends
20:45who have given me
20:47some of these beautiful plates
20:49that are like
20:49traditional
20:50Andalusian pottery
20:53and they look
20:54stunning
20:56on the walls
20:57and the plants
20:59look stunning
21:01and it's even
21:02more special
21:03because it's
21:04all been made possible
21:05from friends
21:07new friends
21:08that we've made
21:09since coming to Spain.
21:21The renovation
21:22is now officially over.
21:24Nine months on
21:29from when
21:29Jasmine and John
21:30bought this property
21:31in Estepona.
21:34This is it, kids.
21:36What do you think?
21:39What's your favourite bit
21:40so far, Albs?
21:41The blue part.
21:44Don't you like
21:44the natural exposed brick?
21:46I do.
21:47The front of the house
21:50there's still
21:51things to be done
21:52out there.
21:53The gates haven't arrived.
21:55We haven't had the time
21:56to do the patio
21:57but
21:58compared to
22:00when we first
22:01viewed it
22:02it's all painted
22:05we've got
22:05a driveway
22:06it's
22:07way better.
22:10But as well as triumphs
22:11they've also faced
22:12real challenges.
22:14The blood test results
22:15suggest
22:16I've had a mild
22:17heart attack.
22:19With John recovering
22:20from this
22:20and a double fracture
22:21to his leg
22:22there was one person
22:24to whom Jasmine
22:24naturally turned.
22:27How traumatising.
22:29To have someone
22:30so selfless
22:32my mum is just
22:34a lifesaver.
22:36Thanks you for coming.
22:39So
22:39as the day
22:40of the housewarming
22:41party arrives
22:42Mama!
22:44Before anyone else
22:45sets foot inside
22:46Thank you so much
22:47for coming all this way.
22:49Jasmine is giving
22:50her mum a VIP tour.
22:53Are you ready?
22:54Ready.
22:55As ready as I'll ever be.
22:59There used to be
23:00a dividing wall
23:01between the lounge
23:02and kitchen.
23:04What do you reckon kids?
23:06It smells bad.
23:07It's tiny.
23:10Tiny?
23:11It's not that small
23:12is it?
23:15Ta-da!
23:17What do you think
23:18of this?
23:19Wow!
23:26Very nice.
23:28so much more spacious.
23:34That wall is gone.
23:35That wall is gone.
23:36Yeah.
23:37This big block
23:37in the corner
23:38here
23:39where there was
23:40a cupboard
23:40and there was
23:40a big column
23:41behind it.
23:42It feels so much
23:42bigger doesn't it?
23:43It does.
23:44It does.
23:45I think I want
23:46to knock my walls
23:47down.
23:48The thing that I love
23:50about the new layout
23:51is you walk
23:52through the front door
23:53and you can see
23:54all the way through
23:55straight away.
23:58The sliding doors
23:59are not the only feature
24:00that have made
24:01a huge difference
24:02to the main living space.
24:04How do you like
24:05the kitchen?
24:06It's fantastic.
24:12The work tops
24:14were fitted
24:14and the units
24:15plumbed in last week
24:16so it's the first time
24:18Jasmine's been able
24:19to show it all off
24:20fully finished.
24:23It's beautiful.
24:26I'm really happy
24:27with it.
24:29I love the kitchen.
24:31I think the colour
24:32is amazing
24:32and we've got
24:34so much space
24:35and so much storage.
24:37More than we need
24:38really.
24:40Before the kitchen
24:41was kind of
24:41completely separate room
24:43and it felt quite
24:43dark and dingy
24:44but now it feels
24:46much more light
24:47and open.
24:49As well as
24:50the new layout
24:51the other
24:52structural alteration
24:53to the ground floor
24:54has been the creation
24:55of access
24:56from the lounge
24:57to the main
24:57outside space.
25:00Look down to this floor
25:01mum.
25:02We've got stairs
25:02going down here now.
25:04What do you think?
25:06Yes, very nice.
25:08I've got to say
25:09one highlight for me
25:10that stands out
25:11was the stairs
25:12from the balcony.
25:13I knew you'd
25:15mince this day.
25:17It's just,
25:18hasn't it just been
25:19transformational
25:21to how we're able
25:22to use the garden
25:23so for me
25:24I love that.
25:25That was my idea.
25:27What do you think
25:28then, Mama?
25:29Oh, wow.
25:30It's just amazing.
25:31Yeah, the pool
25:41looks lovely.
25:42Nice and clear
25:43and beautifully
25:44framed,
25:45lovely greenery.
25:47So, do you like
25:47the plants, Mum?
25:49The bougainvillea,
25:50nice.
25:50Yeah, a couple
25:51of bougainvilleas
25:52and my neighbour
25:52next door
25:54has helped
25:54so much
25:55with the garden.
25:55Beautiful wall.
26:02That wasn't there
26:03before.
26:04The whole wall,
26:05yeah.
26:05That wall literally
26:06has been finished
26:07in the last
26:07four years.
26:09That was a race
26:10against time,
26:10wasn't it?
26:11That's nice.
26:11The wall makes
26:12the garden,
26:13improves it so much
26:14more.
26:14It's great.
26:16The fact that
26:16we've not been able
26:17to use the pool,
26:18we've not been able
26:19to use the garden
26:20for most of this
26:21whole renovation project
26:22has made me feel
26:24really like
26:25we've been missing
26:25out, especially
26:26for the kids.
26:27So, having that
26:28come together now
26:29and looking so
26:30beautiful makes
26:32me very happy.
26:34Whilst the garden
26:35and lounge kitchen
26:36were only finished
26:37yesterday, the
26:38children's bedrooms
26:39on the first floor
26:40were completed
26:41during phase one
26:42of the build.
26:42It's so cool.
27:00But Jasmine had a
27:01second potentially
27:02tough critic
27:03to please, too.
27:05Can I go in?
27:06Let's go in
27:07and I can't wait
27:07to see what you think.
27:13Oh!
27:18Oh, my God!
27:23What do you think?
27:25It's so cool!
27:28Joy also has
27:29the added bonus
27:30of her own
27:31private terrace.
27:34That terrace,
27:36when we first
27:36came here
27:37to have a look
27:37around,
27:38the first thing
27:38that hit you
27:39was the smell.
27:40Look at this.
27:45Joy's gone.
27:46There was
27:47a dilapidated hot tub
27:49that was full
27:50of green slime
27:51and mosquito lava.
27:53It was hideous.
27:55It made me gag.
27:58Is he actually
27:59throwing up?
28:00I don't know.
28:01I mean,
28:02it is quite gross.
28:04As her mum
28:04loved the garden,
28:06Jasmine wants
28:06to show her
28:07this outside space,
28:08too.
28:10Have you seen
28:10out here before?
28:12Was it like this?
28:13Wow, no.
28:14It's like a resort.
28:16Yeah.
28:21Imagine being
28:27an 11-year-old
28:28going on teenager
28:29and bringing
28:30your mates
28:30out here
28:30in the evenings.
28:32Beautiful.
28:33This is one
28:34of the easy jobs.
28:35Very nice.
28:36Very nice.
28:37Absolutely gorgeous.
28:39Your little
28:39granddaughter,
28:40she's a very
28:41lucky girl.
28:43Also on the
28:44first floor
28:45is the family
28:46bathroom,
28:47which Jasmine
28:47and John
28:48tackled at the
28:49same time
28:49as the bedrooms.
28:51And that's
28:53the bathroom
28:54with the
28:54very damp
28:55ceiling.
28:57What are you
28:58doing?
28:58You'll see
28:59how damp it is.
29:06That went
29:06in my mouth.
29:07I think it's
29:08like 10 years
29:09of neglect.
29:10Neglect.
29:10great in here
29:20now, isn't
29:21it?
29:21Finally.
29:23What's your
29:23favourite bit?
29:24Those tiles
29:25and the toothbrush
29:27timer.
29:28What's your
29:29favourite?
29:30I don't know.
29:31I quite like the
29:31massive sink
29:32and the wooden
29:33unit.
29:34That is
29:34beautiful.
29:35I think our
29:37compass really
29:39when renovating
29:40this house
29:41has been to
29:42stay true
29:44to the style
29:45of the house
29:46and also to
29:47stick with things
29:48that we love
29:49ourselves.
29:50So it's a bit
29:51of a mishmash
29:52in places,
29:53isn't it?
29:53It's a blend.
29:54Yep.
29:55But I think the
29:55blend works.
29:56Yeah, me too.
29:57I'm pleased with
29:57the blend.
29:57All right.
30:01This is a real
30:02hot spot up
30:03here.
30:08It's not bad,
30:09is it, out here?
30:10I mean, you
30:10could make so
30:11much more of it.
30:13Be careful
30:13because it's
30:13full of dirty
30:14water.
30:15Oh, God.
30:25It's a really
30:27nice space.
30:27It's a nice
30:28table.
30:28I like that
30:29table.
30:31Yeah, there's
30:31a funny story
30:32about that,
30:32actually, because
30:34it used to be a
30:35glass-top table.
30:37It wouldn't go up
30:37the stairs.
30:38It wouldn't come
30:39up the side.
30:41So in the end,
30:42we made that
30:43tabletop out of
30:45wood, and then
30:46all the offcuts
30:47made that planter
30:48over there.
30:48That's nice.
30:49I like that
30:49planter very much.
30:50That's really
30:51good.
30:53You have the
30:53fairy lights
30:54and the festoons.
30:56It's a good
30:56spot for sunbathing,
30:57it's a lovely
30:58spot for a sundowner.
31:00John will be hiding
31:01up here in the
31:01winter, won't you,
31:02probably?
31:03This will be my
31:04office in the
31:04winter.
31:06Put my laptop on
31:06that table.
31:07It's really lovely
31:08up here.
31:09Well done, both of you.
31:11The house has changed
31:18so much since I saw it
31:19first.
31:21It just looks amazing,
31:23like a different
31:24house.
31:26I am so proud of
31:28Jasmine and John.
31:29They work so hard,
31:30they deserve to have
31:31a nice place.
31:33It almost brings me to
31:34tears to think that
31:36Jasmine grew up in a
31:39rented home in Hackney
31:41and now she's got a
31:42place in the sun.
31:44Down on the
32:02Costa del Sol,
32:03the vegan food truck
32:04has just parked up
32:05and chefs Philip and
32:07Berta are preparing the
32:08evening's menu.
32:09The party's about to get
32:12started and Jasmine and
32:14John can finally
32:14celebrate.
32:17I'm feeling a bit
32:19emotional, very
32:21relieved, really,
32:23really thrilled with the
32:25outcome.
32:25I mean, everything's been
32:26a struggle but
32:27everything's come together
32:28in the end.
32:29Last night I was like,
32:30wow, this house is
32:32amazing and we're very
32:33lucky.
32:35It was a huge project.
32:37Yeah.
32:37When we first looked
32:38around this house,
32:39it was a house that
32:40had no longer been
32:41loved and now we've
32:43taken a house that's in
32:44the perfect location for
32:45us and made it perfect
32:46for us.
32:48You know, we've given
32:48it a heart again.
32:50We've given it a soul
32:51again.
32:53Someone who's been
32:54instrumental in helping
32:55Jasmine and John realise
32:57their vision for their
32:58new home is interior
32:59designer Laura.
33:01Hello.
33:02Oh, welcome back.
33:05As well as the living
33:07room with its now
33:07completed gallery wall,
33:09she's also had a big hand
33:10in the makeover of some
33:12other rooms, such as the
33:13main bedroom.
33:14So Jasmine's keen to get
33:16her opinion.
33:17Bit of a transformation in
33:19here.
33:20Yes, absolutely.
33:26What a tranquil room.
33:29So calming and peaceful.
33:31I love the textures and the
33:32light materials.
33:34Oh, wow.
33:35It was only actually last
33:37night that I finished this
33:39room.
33:40Oh.
33:41Every good renovation has a
33:43little bit of a rush to the
33:44finish line.
33:46In the end, we upcycled the
33:47old bed.
33:48Yeah, well, there you go.
33:49No, it looks great.
33:50All the colours really
33:51complement each other and
33:52pull it all together, so it
33:54looks fabulous.
33:56There was a lot more that I
33:57would have liked to have done
33:59in there, but with time and
34:02budget constraints, it became
34:05less of a priority for us.
34:08And I think that's an indicator
34:10really of how much we care
34:13about other people, our kids,
34:15our visitors, everyone else,
34:17because we put our own bedroom
34:19as the bottom of the
34:20priorities.
34:21But I think it's turned out
34:23beautifully.
34:25Another one of Laura's designs
34:27was for the family
34:28entertainment room in the
34:29basement.
34:32Are you ready for this?
34:34Oh, wow.
34:36Wow.
34:37Wow.
34:41This is fantastic.
34:45It's come together really
34:46nicely, hasn't it?
34:47It has.
34:47What a transformation.
34:49I mean, I wasn't convinced
34:51as much as John was about
34:54putting so much work into
34:55this basement, but, well,
34:58I think it speaks for
34:58itself, doesn't it?
34:59Yeah, it does.
35:00And I bet you this becomes
35:01one of the most hard-working
35:02rooms of the house.
35:03I'm sure it will.
35:04And this is the area that
35:05everyone gets really
35:06surprised by.
35:07Yeah.
35:08You show them around the
35:09house, they think they've
35:09seen it all, and then you
35:10come down here and it's
35:11like, pow!
35:12Exactly.
35:13There's another space which
35:15wasn't one of your designs,
35:17but it's a little bit of a
35:18surprise through the hall.
35:19This was the garage.
35:21Now, look.
35:23When the renovation began,
35:25this part of the basement
35:26was half-built and open to
35:28the elements.
35:31Have a look at this.
35:34Yeah.
35:35Again, what a transformation.
35:36The cat's the one who uses it
35:46the most.
35:48I'm going to go in the roar.
35:49I mean, this is my excuse for
35:51not using the roar machine as much
35:52because she's always there.
35:54You don't want to kick her off.
35:56I just think it's great.
35:57It's like the basement is the
35:58space that keeps on giving,
35:59doesn't it?
36:00I know.
36:02There's a bathroom down here
36:04as well now, so that would be
36:06used, you know, if you're in
36:07the basement or if you're in
36:08the garden or if you're in the
36:09gym.
36:10Perfect and practical.
36:11Mm-hmm.
36:12Well, I'm so pleased you could
36:14make it.
36:15I'm so excited.
36:16Thank you for having me back to
36:17see the transformation.
36:21It's just delightful to actually
36:23get to see the family enjoy the
36:25space.
36:25Renovations are stressful and
36:28it's just so wonderful to see
36:29them all smiling and happy and
36:32enjoying it, finally.
36:37I think we're very proud of what
36:39we've achieved, right?
36:40I mean, I also think we should be
36:41proud of some of the circumstances
36:45with which we've achieved.
36:46I mean, that's what makes me more
36:48proud, is that against all odds,
36:52we've still managed to create an
36:54amazing home.
36:57I would definitely do it again.
37:00I can't say that I've enjoyed the
37:03process of the renovation, but I
37:05definitely feel like it was the
37:07right choice for us to buy this
37:09house.
37:10It was like destiny.
37:12Fate or otherwise, none of it could
37:15have happened without Dominic, son
37:17Quinn and all of the builders.
37:19You just can't get rid of us.
37:22Good boy, come on.
37:22It's nice to do a personal house.
37:27It has its problems because they're
37:28living there as well, but you get
37:30to know them and to go to a party
37:32at the end, it's a top-in-out party,
37:34isn't it?
37:34It looks lovely.
37:34It's a bit of a transformation, isn't it?
37:47Another team who played a key role in the
38:05renovation are kitchen designer Rebecca
38:07and her assistant, Carmen.
38:10No, seriously, I love the way you've got
38:12all these different areas.
38:13Yeah, and there's a little detail, it's fine.
38:16It's great.
38:17Yeah, it's nice.
38:18The plates are nice.
38:19And you guys have been so helpful.
38:21Thank you so much.
38:22We've really loved it.
38:23We've enjoyed it.
38:24It's been a pleasure, actually.
38:26It's absolutely wonderful being here today
38:29and seeing everything finished and the
38:31whole house has come together, the
38:32kitchen installed and the way they
38:34beautifully decorated it.
38:36We don't actually often get to see the
38:38kitchen when there are people in the
38:40house and enjoying it, and that's
38:42what we're seeing today.
38:44All the guests have now arrived and
38:46the hospitality is flowing.
38:49Jeff, are you drinking planta limon?
38:50No, I mean, it's meant to be a bar and
38:54then you can serve the garden.
38:58We've been so lucky to make lovely
39:02friends here in Spain and, you know,
39:04to be able to celebrate with them in
39:07our own home.
39:10It's a privilege to be able to host a
39:12party and show people and go, this is
39:14what you've helped achieve, you know,
39:16without your help, we wouldn't be able
39:17to do it.
39:19The vegan food truck is about to start
39:21serving.
39:22So before everyone tucks in, Jasmine
39:24wants to seize an important
39:26opportunity.
39:28Thank you all so much for coming.
39:31We are so grateful to each and every
39:37one of you for helping and supporting
39:40us over the last few months.
39:43It has been such a journey for us, for
39:45John and I, for Joy and Albie, for our
39:48whole family, taking on a project like
39:50this in Spain and looking around now at
39:53our beautiful home.
39:54I am lost for words.
39:56I'm probably going to cry now, so I'm
39:58sorry.
39:58I apologise in advance.
39:59I mean, you've cried at almost every
40:00year.
40:00I've cried at every junction.
40:02The incredible people around us are
40:04what's carried us through this.
40:05So, Dominic and all you guys, thank you
40:08so much for your tireless work.
40:10And mum's here.
40:15You do it.
40:16You do it, please.
40:18I can't talk.
40:19Why?
40:20Right now, don't fail me.
40:22To my mum, my mum, to your mum, to
40:25Jaz's mum, thank you for being there
40:26through every drama, every high and
40:29every low, always ready with a word of
40:31encouragement, a hug or a calm voice when
40:33we needed it most.
40:33And to my family, thank you for their
40:35constant support.
40:36Most of all, to our wonderful children,
40:42Joy and Albion, you're the reason we're
40:44here, building a future for you both.
40:47We hope you have the best time growing up
40:48here and making memories in every room
40:50and corner of this house.
40:52You know, for me, a massive thanks to Jaz.
40:56You know, none of this would have been
40:57possible without your continual strength
41:00and driving support.
41:03So, thanks to Jaz.
41:05Love you all.
41:06And thank you all so much for coming.
41:09Cheers.
41:10Cheers.
41:12And here's a little, a tiny little surprise
41:14for Jaz.
41:14Oh, Gabriela!
41:17Oh, my gosh!
41:18Oh, my gosh!
41:19I remember saying right at the beginning, you have to trust it will all work out in the end.
41:35And yes, we knew it was going to be a challenge, but honestly, with everyone's help, everyone who's been involved has just pulled out all the stops to make it happen for us.
41:48And I couldn't be more grateful, actually.
41:50I think it feels like some stories to tell the grandkids of when we crazily bought a house in Spain.
42:09Well, thanks for being on this journey with me.
42:12I mean, it's been a, been a ride, hasn't it?
42:15It's been a heck of a ride.
42:17But, yeah, I can't, I can't speak without feeling like I'm going to cry.
42:23I want everything.
42:25You want everything.
42:26Get the drink.
42:27And one last surprise, if everyone wants to come up to the roof terrace on the very top, you have to come this way using Jaz's new stairs.
42:33Everyone to the roof terrace, the top one.
42:35Oh, my gosh.
42:41Ponte tu el la cuatro equina
42:45I really love music, and I especially love Latin music, so that was really special.
43:11It was fantastic.
43:12The guitarist was out of this world.
43:19The singer was fantastic.
43:25We kind of set out to create this house, this home, that was perfect for entertaining and being sociable.
43:32And it feels like it's a nice way to end by being entertaining and being sociable and using the house.
43:38Using every bit of the house.
43:39And now the renovation is over.
43:44We'll have a lot more time to spend with our loved ones.
43:48And I'm so much looking forward to it.
43:52I can't wait.
43:53Tonight, it's the start of our new lives.
44:19It's why we came to Spain.
44:22And renovating a house was never in our plan, but it was kind of a means to an end.
44:27So now we get to start living the life we want.
44:33High five.
44:34High five.
44:37High.
44:38High five.
44:41High five.
44:43You
44:43High five.
44:43Yeah, and that's all.
44:45That's all.
44:45A
44:45High five.
44:46High five.
44:47Cool.
44:47Yes, Paul.
44:48Oh
44:49Hey,
44:50And that's all.
44:53Wait,
44:53One,
44:55Hey,
44:55phoneme.
44:56And that's all.
44:57It is so exciting.
