00:00Tackled their third solo challenge to create glamorous swimwear for Team GB
00:05The pants, they're not quite going according to plan
00:09Before using their crochet skills to make a deck chair
00:13Can someone grab me a pina colada please?
00:16Lydia was named Big Knitter of the Week
00:19You should be proud because the fit is lovely
00:21A feat of engineering
00:23Simon lacked a plan
00:25Just trying to make it up as I go along
00:27Tracy missed the mark
00:30I'm not sure the flowers have worked terribly well
00:32But it was Stephanie who was cast off
00:36Thank you very much indeed
00:37Thank you
00:38Now
00:40It's Week 4 and our seven remaining knitters better have brought their creativity
00:46Their A-game and of course some adorable baby lambs
00:50Because it's Kids Week on Game of War
00:57Hello knitters and welcome back
01:02I hope everyone's up for a bit of fun this week
01:03Because it's Kids Week
01:06So for this week's solo challenge
01:09Di and Sheila would love for you to make a costume
01:11That a toddler can wear to a kid's fancy dress party
01:16So everyone for this solo challenge
01:21We would like you to make a unique outfit
01:24A standout design
01:26And lovely stitch work
01:29So that when we look at it we're wowed
01:32So crochet only
01:36Your outfit should have three elements to it
01:42It should be an instantly recognisable design
01:47And as Di said the best possible choice of crochet stitches
01:53By now in the competition we really expect to see a range of stitches used
01:58Later on we are going to have some feral two year olds wearing your outfits
02:05You've got 12 hours
02:07So let's get this party started and let's get hooking
02:10This solo challenge will test the knitter's ability to use crochet stitches alone
02:19To bring a character to life
02:21Nearing the halfway point of the competition
02:24The judges expect originality, structural strength and maximum impact
02:29Only the best are in with a chance of securing the coveted sheep badge
02:34My first goal was to be here
02:37And then I was like well now I have a new goal
02:40I want to get one of those sheep
02:41First the knitters must crochet the main body of the garment
02:46Carefully considering stitches and fastenings to ensure the best possible fit
02:52Next they must complete a piece of characterful headgear
02:55To really bring their outfit to life
02:58Finally knitters must add embellishments and accessories
03:01Which can withstand the rough and tumble of playtime
03:05The judges will be expecting all three elements to work together
03:09To create an original and imaginative character
03:12Designs like these might take more than 30 hours
03:15But in the yarn barn they have just 12
03:19We only have seven knitters left
03:23What are you expecting to see when you walk into the yarn barn?
03:26That it's really imaginative
03:28Also that their technical ability is shining through too
03:33Because it's always a balance
03:34It's always the two Tom
03:36It's always creative and technical
03:38You've got to be able to do both to win game of war
03:41Still buzzing from her first big knitter win last week
03:47Mum of two Lydia is starting to create the body of her outfit
03:51In this our first solo crochet challenge
03:55I gave the choice to my girls
03:56I said what would you like mummy to make
03:58And they said a lion
03:59Lydia is making a lion romper suit
04:04Using double and treble crochet
04:06Worked in the round
04:07A technique that builds up from a central point
04:10To create a seamless shape and flexible fit
04:12She's also making a tail, wrist cuffs and a hood
04:17Using the loop stitch
04:18A technique which forms decorative loops of yarn
04:21To create her mane
04:22Lydia, what inspired the lion?
04:26Um, my girls
04:27So this is my very detailed plan
04:30Oh, okay
04:32The girls help
04:33Did they draw it?
04:33That is so cute
04:39You're planning to do it in the round?
04:40Okay, in the round
04:41Completely in the round
04:41Right, so for kids
04:42That's great
04:43They can pull it on
04:44And there's no sewing up at the end
04:46Exactly
04:46Well, I wish you the best of luck
04:47With your roar and purr
04:50Oh, my God
04:51Also kicking off with the body of his outfit
04:56And determined to make it count
04:57Is Isaac
04:58I was talking to my mum
04:59And I was like
05:00Man, I really need an idea for a kid's costume
05:02And she said Explorer
05:03And I was like
05:04Okay, we can work with that
05:07I'm putting an intarsia globe on it
05:08I've just finished South America
05:10And getting to the top of Africa
05:11Isaac's Explorer wears a pocketed safari jacket
05:17He has carefully charted a globe
05:19Using the intarsia technique
05:21And plans to create a canvas-style fabric
05:24Using a time-consuming spike stitch
05:26To make a spike stitch
05:28You work down into the row below
05:30Pulling the new loop up to the height of the current row
05:32To create a longer vertical stitch
05:35He's accessorized with binoculars
05:37A compass
05:38And an ambitious pith helmet
05:41Demanding clever engineering
05:43For this crochet-only challenge
05:46The judges have specifically asked
05:48For creative crochet stitches
05:50To elevate basic fancy dress
05:52Into full-blown characters
05:54Isaac's hoping his choice
05:56Will help navigate him into the next round
05:59My eye has been caught
06:00Yes
06:01I've chosen to do a spike stitch
06:03In the main fabric of the vest
06:05It's going to take a lot longer for it to work up
06:07But I do think it provides
06:09Like a slightly more elegant look
06:10It does look much more like a woven fabric
06:13Yes
06:13Because they're typically made of like canvas
06:15Yes, exactly
06:15Because it seems a really considered stitch to use
06:20It's so much harder
06:24When you don't have a huge arsenal of crochet stitches
06:28Oh, I've never crocheted before in my life
06:30Did I say that?
06:31I said I was a novice
06:33I didn't say I haven't crocheted
06:35Yeah, right
06:35Because I obviously have
06:36Crocheted a deck chair, okay?
06:38Yeah, not many of us can say that
06:40No stranger to making outfits
06:43Fashion designer Holger
06:45Is reimagining a childhood friend
06:47As a three-year-old
06:48I had a little fox
06:50Fox in German is fox
06:53As a three-year-old
06:54I wasn't able to pronounce the K sound
06:56So whenever I wanted to say fox
06:58I said foots
06:59Holger's Foots the Fox costume
07:03Is made up of striped dungarees
07:05Secured with a shoulder strap
07:07And hand-crocheted buttons
07:09His foxy elements include cuffs
07:11A bushy tail
07:12And a headpiece
07:13Using a brushed yarn technique
07:15To create whiskery sideburns
07:17Just started a second panel of my trousers
07:20For her solo knit
07:24Librarian worker Dipti
07:25Has been inspired by children's novel
07:27The Day the Crayons Quit
07:29Once the child puts it on
07:32Hopefully they will look like a crayon
07:34The hat is a tip
07:35And I'm going to make a little bag
07:37That looks like a crayon
07:38In which to put all your crayons in
07:39So it's crayon, crayon, crayon, crayon
07:42Dipti is creating a crayon shaped outfit
07:47In a basic double crochet stitch
07:49She's looking to impress
07:50With intricate lettering
07:51Using intarsia crochet on the front
07:54A technique she's not tried before
07:56The hat will be a crayon tip
07:58And her third component
08:00Is a matching bag
08:01For actual crayons
08:02Instead of shaping around the body
08:05Dipti has got started
08:07With just a simple tube
08:09Shaping wise it is really simple
08:12You know
08:12I'm changing the shape of the child
08:14The child is going to look like a crayon
08:16Two hours into the challenge
08:21Knitters should be well into the body
08:23Of their costumes
08:23And starting to consider
08:25How to add characterisation
08:27To their outfits
08:28Last week
08:30It was Tracy's lack of embellishments
08:31With her bikini
08:32That put her in the danger zone
08:34What are we here?
08:35This is a bee
08:36I'm working on the body at the moment
08:38Can I just see which different stitches
08:40You've been using?
08:42So I've used trebles and clusters
08:44Treble stitches are tall and loose
08:46Cluster stitches add raised texture
08:48I do like the cluster effect
08:50It's giving a really nice added texture
08:53To it
08:53Tracy's bee outfit
08:57Has a stripy body
08:58In two stitch techniques
09:00And this queen bee
09:01Will also wear a crown
09:03To construct the wings
09:04She has decided to use
09:06Two hair curling bands
09:07Which she will wrap in yarn
09:09What's the structure of the wings?
09:12Well I'm bending these
09:13I'm going to wrap round and tie them
09:15Hair curling bands
09:16Will add weight to the wings
09:18Making them trickier to attach
09:20How will that attach?
09:22And I'm going to attach like that
09:25So then I will crochet that bit on
09:27Yeah, okay
09:33Elsa
09:38I've got the body piece
09:41It's so cute
09:42It looks random
09:43But it's actually quite calculated
09:46Elsa's zebra costume
09:50Will feature a hat
09:51With added facial features
09:53And leg warmers
09:54On the body
09:55She will use multiple stitches
09:57Of different sizes
09:58Creating a natural looking stripe
10:00Inspired by a knitting pattern
10:02She unearthed
10:03From the 1950s
10:05I like the way the stitches were done
10:09And I managed to do this
10:11In such a way
10:12That I'd create
10:12Sort of irregular stripes
10:14Creating that weird flow
10:16To make them a regular
10:17Makes it like an actual zebra
10:18Right?
10:22By the four hour mark
10:23Knitters should have moved on
10:25To their second element
10:26Crocheted headgear
10:27To really transform the toddlers
10:29Into their characters
10:30Ta-da!
10:33He's going to have a little ears on
10:35I'm going to add
10:35A little bit of extra material
10:37So it gets really, really fluffy
10:39When you brush it out
10:40This is a little pith hat
10:42I love it
10:44I think it suits you
10:45It might fit
10:46You look amazing
10:51Wow
10:53Shucks
10:54Last week
10:57Simon's lack of planning
10:59Led to him being marked down
11:00By the judges
11:01It's definitely
11:02A more focused week
11:04Currently on the helmet
11:05I'm using a double crochet
11:07Simon's night costume
11:10Will feature body armour
11:11Crocheted in a beginner
11:13Friendly granny square stitch
11:15To mimic chain mail
11:16There is more complexity
11:17In the helmet
11:18But unlike last week
11:19Simon's written a pattern
11:21His accessory
11:22Is an ambitious
11:23Mixed
11:24With interlinking chains
11:25All made from
11:26Tight double crochet stitches
11:28Perfect for intricate shaping
11:30My biggest concern
11:33Is my knowledge
11:34Of crochet
11:35And the simplicity
11:36Of the stitches
11:38The judges
11:38Said about using
11:40Different stitches
11:40But I've only got a few
11:41In my arsenal
11:42I think everyone
11:46Is taking this challenge
11:47A little bit too seriously
11:48Luckily
11:51I'm on hand
11:52With the party games
11:53Game of woolly pinata
11:54Anyone?
11:54You have six hours
12:08To go
12:08By now
12:09Knitters should be finishing
12:11Their bodies and headgear
12:12And moving on
12:13To the accessories
12:14At this stage
12:15Of the competition
12:16Every element
12:17Must embody
12:18Technical prowess
12:19For knitters
12:20To stand out
12:21Stiff competition
12:22This week
12:22What do you reckon?
12:24Something arguably good
12:25Will have to go
12:27Dipti is struggling
12:29With the lettering
12:30On the body
12:31Of her crayon
12:31I think I've gone wrong somewhere
12:33This is entirely a crochet
12:39Yes
12:40I had to learn
12:41Just for this
12:42And it's been
12:43Quite a learning process
12:44And I hope
12:45The lettering
12:46Will be clear
12:47And you weren't
12:51Tempted to
12:51Surface crochet
12:53Or
12:53Afterwards
12:54The lettering
12:56No
12:56Because I wanted
12:57To be able
12:57To show you
12:58That I could
12:59Use this technique
13:00Yes
13:00Do you mind
13:01If I have a little look?
13:02Of course you can
13:03Thank you
13:03Very much so
13:04Just tidy it up
13:14A little bit
13:14Smarten them up
13:15Smarten them up
13:17Yeah
13:17Good luck
13:18Dipti
13:18Good luck
13:19Thank you
13:20It's kids week
13:32In the yarn barn
13:33And while I get the party
13:34Started outside
13:35So we go
13:36In the stitch
13:37Round the needle
13:39Pull it through
13:40And off
13:41Got it?
13:44Inside
13:44Knitters are more than
13:45Halfway through
13:46Their solo challenge
13:47Original
13:48Crochet only
13:49Fancy dress
13:51Outfits for kids
13:52Some are well
13:53Into the third
13:54And final stage
13:54Of the challenge
13:55The accessories
13:56I'm making the
13:57Second monocular
13:58To form my
13:59Binoculars
14:00The tail
14:01Will be crocheted
14:02These are little
14:03Leg warmers
14:04I'm making a mace
14:06Mace handle
14:07This is the bit
14:09Tracy's worried about
14:10Very worried about
14:12But others
14:16Are still working
14:17On the main body
14:18Of their garment
14:19My priority
14:19Is to try and
14:20Take Di and
14:21Sheila's advice
14:22And work on
14:23The front of
14:23The outfit
14:24Make it look
14:25Tidier
14:25And a bit
14:26More defined
14:27I can't decide
14:31Whether that's
14:32Better or worse
14:33Lydia's face
14:35Says it all
14:36That actually
14:41Doesn't look
14:41Too bad
14:42From far away
14:42Yeah
14:43She's told
14:44I can't
14:44Hilarious
14:46Simon
14:52Oh this looks fun
14:55Oh wow
14:55Look at that
14:56So these are
14:57Lots of loops
14:57That you made
14:58Double crochet
14:58Yeah
14:59Double crochet
15:00Foundation
15:00Shaves
15:01Fantastic
15:01This is great
15:03Instead of using
15:07Crochet alone
15:08Tracy chose
15:10Hair curling
15:10Bands to create
15:11Shape
15:12But they've made
15:13The wings
15:13Much heavier
15:14And harder
15:15To attach
15:15I'm going to put
15:16A crochet plate
15:17Across the back
15:18And put it in place
15:19So put it right
15:20The way round
15:20Both sides
15:21To hold it
15:22Flutter flutter
15:23Mostly finish
15:28The romper
15:29I'll start
15:31My tail
15:31Here
15:32Just a tube
15:32Like literally
15:33Looking around
15:34And there's
15:34All these
15:34Incredible
15:35Costumes
15:35Coming to life
15:36Knitters
15:42You have
15:43One hour
15:44Until this
15:44Paddling
15:45Wall
15:45Is going
15:46To be
15:46Full of
15:46Toddlers
15:47Trying out
15:48Your outfit
15:48That kind of
15:52Rems up
15:53The pressure
15:53Nicely
15:54That's what
15:54We want
15:54You know
15:55More pressure
15:55In this
15:57Final hour
15:58The knitters
15:58Must complete
15:59Their three
16:00Elements
16:00Ready for
16:01Judgment
16:01Dipti
16:03Is working
16:03On her hat
16:04So the hat
16:05Is going to
16:06Tie under
16:07The child's
16:07Head
16:08Got long
16:11To go now
16:12What's going
16:12On
16:12Getting there
16:13Putting some
16:14Facial features
16:15On
16:15There's a wee bit
16:16Of eye shadow
16:17Isaac where are you
16:18At
16:18I'm just making
16:19My compass
16:19That is adorable
16:20Oh my gosh
16:22Okay
16:22Lydia
16:23Yeah
16:23Where are you at
16:24I will attach
16:25A tail here
16:26Let's have a look
16:26At the tail
16:27Attachment
16:27Lovely
16:28Okay and Holger
16:30I am attaching
16:31The tail
16:32To the trousers
16:32You look at that tail
16:34I don't know
16:41I don't know
16:41Whether it will be
16:42Enough for the judges
16:43I've given it
16:44My best shot
16:44All finished
16:46Time is up
16:51Playtime is over
16:53I'm done baby
16:54Yay
16:55I had the opportunity
16:59To see everyone else
17:00And they are really
17:01Fantastic
17:02The stakes are
17:02High this week
17:04The stakes will be
17:07Even higher
17:08When our seven costumes
17:09Face their true test
17:11Toddlers
17:12Toddler test passed
17:38It's judgment time
17:40It's now time
17:41For Di and Sheila
17:42To get critical
17:44With the crochet
17:45So first up
17:46We have Holger
17:47So Holger
17:55Lots of nice
17:55Stitch details
17:56Design details
17:58Teasled
17:59It is a bit of fluff
18:00Works incredibly well
18:02So three elements
18:03The head
18:04The little dungarees
18:06I love the tail
18:07You thought about
18:08The construction
18:09The weight of this fabric
18:11Yeah
18:11And the crochet button
18:13Is great
18:14I think it is a success
18:16Yes
18:16Thank you
18:17This challenge
18:19Wasn't just about
18:20Creating a toddler's outfit
18:22We were looking for
18:24Something that was
18:26Original
18:27And special
18:28And
18:29That's what you've done
18:30So thank you
18:31Thank you very much Holger
18:32Next up
18:34We have Tracy
18:34Queen Bee
18:40You have
18:42Cleverly used
18:43Clusters
18:44Here
18:45To give it
18:45Really nice texture
18:47And also
18:47Breaking up the fact
18:48That they are
18:49Essentially yellow
18:50And black stripes
18:51Buttons
18:52Slightly sad
18:53These aren't
18:54Crocheted
18:54I'm not sure
18:59That the wings
18:59Work
19:00I think
19:02They're a bit
19:02Too heavy
19:02Because of
19:04The weight
19:04Of these
19:05You needed
19:05To compensate
19:06It's pulled it
19:07Right away
19:08From the back
19:09They don't
19:10They don't quite
19:10Look like wings
19:11Next up
19:14We have Lydia
19:15Wow
19:20That is a real
19:22Romper suit
19:22Some great
19:24Embellishments
19:25To this
19:26These lovely
19:27Cufflet
19:28The echo
19:29The echo
19:29On the bottom
19:30The mane
19:30The tail
19:31It does all tie together
19:33It ties together
19:34Really well
19:34The tail
19:35It's actually got
19:36Quite a nice shape
19:37Hasn't it
19:37I know it's a small detail
19:41I know it's a small detail
19:41But again
19:43Crocheted please
19:44Those are quite important details
19:47Okay
19:47That you've made everything yourself
19:49Yeah
19:49Obviously a lion suit
19:51Is not super original
19:52Yeah
19:53But I think
19:54It's got your mark on it
19:55Which I like
19:56Thank you
19:56Thank you Lydia
19:57Thank you Lydia
19:58Next up we have Simon
19:59The helmet
20:04Is a good solid
20:06Piece of construction
20:07You thought this through
20:08Didn't you
20:08I tried
20:10You planned
20:11Yeah
20:11Which is unusual for me
20:13When it comes to crochet
20:14Literally everything I've got
20:15Is in that
20:16So I can see
20:19You've really tried hard
20:20Here
20:21Different crochet stitches
20:22You're adapting
20:24What you know you can do
20:26To fit all the
20:27Different requirements
20:28There is more
20:29That you could have done
20:30I'm sure
20:31I actually really love this
20:35Very pleasing
20:36Historical object
20:38And a great success earlier
20:39In the toddler arena
20:41Go on Di
20:44Give it a swing
20:45You know you want to
20:46There you go
20:47The detail you put into this
20:50Defines this costume
20:52Engineering like that
20:53Really makes me happy
20:54I think you really stepped up
20:56Making this
20:56Next up we have Ailsa
21:00She's quite something
21:06Isn't she
21:06Thank you
21:08A lot of fun
21:09I mean a child's imagination
21:13Can run wild
21:14Wearing something like this
21:15One of the striking things
21:18Is how you manipulated
21:19Your crochet stitches
21:21To uneven lines
21:23You have
21:25I would guess
21:26Very carefully worked out
21:28The height
21:28Of each crochet stitch
21:31Yeah that's right
21:32It's a cracking pattern
21:34The detail in the eyes
21:37Is exceptional
21:39The eye shadow
21:41With this offset top section
21:44So you could then put the eye on top
21:46To raise it out
21:48The intention of fine detail
21:50In there
21:51Is really really amazing
21:53Love it
21:55And next up
21:56Is Isaac
21:57I love this Isaac
22:05This lovely textured crochet stitching
22:08Which looks like a woven fabric
22:10From an explorer's jacket
22:12This is really complicated
22:15Crochet in tarsia
22:17And the countries are beautifully shaped
22:19It's very clear
22:21And it's very good
22:21In your helmet
22:23You have worked a set of spirals
22:28To your centre
22:30Very nicely engineered
22:32Got some really amazing little elements
22:36Compass
22:36Which is a lovely surprise for a child
22:39But more exciting for a child to have
22:42Is a pair of binoculars
22:44I could see a child loving
22:46Getting into character
22:47A small explorer
22:49Yeah
22:49Next up
22:51It's Dipty
22:52So we've got
22:57A crayon
22:59Great wee hat
23:03This is your little third element
23:06Yes
23:06The crayon bag
23:08Yes
23:08Which is very sweet
23:10Nicely engineered
23:12So you have been exploring intarsia
23:17Crochet
23:17Yes
23:18Crochet
23:18Yes
23:19You've chosen to
23:21Outline
23:21The letters
23:23The letters
23:23Yes
23:23It's difficult to see
23:30I think when we were thinking about
23:36Making these letters clearer
23:38I wouldn't have expected such long lengths of yarn
23:43So I think it's oversized
23:48It does gape at the back
23:52It gapes at the back
23:53I find the concept just slightly too simple
23:56Yeah
23:57It's not allowed you to create shape and form
24:02Which I would have liked to have seen more of
24:06Thank you very much Dipty
24:08Thanks Tom
24:08I just threw whatever I knew at it
24:12Which isn't a lot when it comes to crochet
24:14So yeah
24:16Just gave it what I had
24:17After looking at everybody else's makes
24:21Mine is really, really quite simple
24:24Maybe I've reached my peak
24:26I don't know
24:27Maybe I'm out of my depth
24:28I don't know
24:28It's time for the team knit
24:37And one final chance
24:39To claim the prized big knitter badge
24:41And avoid being cast off
24:44So
24:48For this week's group challenge
24:51Di and Sheila
24:52Would love for you
24:53To make
24:54A wall hanging
24:56For a children's bedroom
24:58Oh
24:59We're looking for something really imaginative
25:03Think fantastical beasts
25:04Think cosmic characters
25:05Superheroes
25:06Whatever you can dream up
25:08Now it wouldn't be game of war
25:09Without something extra interesting
25:11Thrown into the mix
25:12Because Di and Sheila
25:13Have devised a little game
25:14It's a game we've all played
25:15When we were younger
25:16So
25:17Here's one I made earlier
25:19First person
25:21Will design
25:22The first part
25:23The next person
25:25Will then design the second part
25:26Until the final design
25:28Is revealed
25:30We'd like you to make it
25:32As imaginative as you can
25:35We'll also be looking for
25:38Interactive and sensory elements
25:42And as always
25:44The challenge is judged blind
25:45So Di and Sheila
25:46I'm going to have to ask you
25:47To leave the armbar
25:49Okay
25:49Good luck
25:50Now for the teams
25:51In team one
25:53Dipti
25:53Holger
25:54Lydia
25:55And Simon
25:56In team two
25:57Tracy
25:58Isaac
25:59And Elsa
26:00You have eight hours
26:02To complete this challenge
26:03Let's get knitting
26:04For this team challenge
26:10They'll need their imaginations
26:11And stitches
26:12To run wild
26:13Each knitter
26:15Is creating their own
26:16Interactive decorative panel
26:18Which will then
26:19All be joined together
26:20To form one wall hanging
26:22Team one's piece
26:24Will be made up of four panels
26:25While team two's
26:27Will have three
26:28But their first task
26:30Is playing the game
26:31I really want to look
26:33I really want to look
26:35This is like really out there isn't it
26:43We're really going for shapes
26:45Yeah
26:45That's really important
26:46For children to recognise shapes
26:48Actually I had a thought
26:50Because it's so varied
26:52It might be worth
26:53Having the same background colour
26:54So that it is cohesive
26:56Across the whole design
26:57Is everyone cool with that?
27:01The shapes team
27:02Have created a geometric creature
27:04On a cream stocking stitch background
27:06Tracy's striking triangular face
27:10Features intarsia
27:11Appliqué eyes
27:12Sparkly yarn hair
27:14Beads and buttons
27:15For sensory impact
27:17Isaac's circular caterpillar body
27:20Mixes waffle and cable knit
27:22With textured yarns
27:23Plus eye cord legs
27:25That push and pull
27:26Ailsa finishes the design
27:29With a colour block intarsia skirt
27:31Tieable lace up shoes
27:33And a furry friend
27:34With a jingly bell
27:35The whole wall hanging
27:36Is framed in neat garter stitch
27:38Instead of just jumping straight in
27:41The other team
27:42Are coming up with a character
27:43Before taking pen to paper
27:45What immediately comes to your mind
27:47For a character
27:48Could be under the sea
27:49Like a sea creature
27:51And sea creature
27:52Will give us more opportunity
27:54To make it interactive and fun
27:55Okay
27:56Shall we just draw
27:58Go for it
28:03Start again
28:04I mean
28:06I like it
28:07The sea creature team
28:11Are building an ambitious
28:13Underwater world
28:14Complete with a monster
28:15Rising from the depths
28:16Panel by panel
28:17Packs with interactive features
28:19Above the surface
28:21Simon's human head
28:22Sits on a blue
28:23Stocking-stitched sky
28:24With a zipped mouth
28:25Pom-pom nose
28:26And applique sunglasses
28:28Below
28:29Lydia's torso
28:30Has bobbly yarn tentacle arms
28:32And a working
28:32Crochet zip-up vest
28:34On sparkly seaweed yarn
28:36Dipti's fully crocheted panel
28:38Adds textured legs
28:39And removable swimming trunks
28:40At the seabed
28:42Holger's intarsia feet
28:43Rest on richly stitched textures
28:45With tactile pom-pom toenails
28:47With the two creatures
28:51Jumped up
28:52The teams cast on
28:53But with two
28:54Very different approaches
28:56I like the idea
28:58Of doing four
28:59Distinct backgrounds
29:00I think as long as
29:02Like the background colours
29:03Are the same throughout
29:04It can sort of
29:05Look like it's one thing
29:06Yeah
29:06When you were growing up
29:10What was your favourite game?
29:11This was one of mine
29:12Really?
29:13Yes
29:13Create something
29:15As outrageous as we could
29:16Get away with
29:17Oh I can only imagine
29:18What went through your mind
29:19Sheila
29:20Ah well
29:20What kind of designs
29:23Are you hoping for
29:24In this challenge?
29:25I'm looking for something
29:26Really creative
29:27Is there a chance
29:28To communicate fun?
29:31What do you think
29:32Could go wrong?
29:33The working out
29:34Of how it's all
29:36Going to hang together
29:36How they actually decide
29:39To make all the panels join
29:41We have asked for playful
29:43And wildly imaginative
29:44But of course
29:45People could tip over the edge
29:47The knitters have started
29:51By creating their individual panels
29:53So what colour shall I do
29:55The face?
29:56Yellow may be nice
29:57I'm thinking yellow
29:57Would be nice
29:58Necklace
29:59Bubbles for the hat
30:00I'm never more happy
30:01Than when I'm surrounded
30:02By glitter and things
30:04And stuff
30:04I'm doing the crazy belly
30:07Of our creature
30:08I'm using a lot of
30:09Different textures of yarn
30:10I've got sparkle
30:11I've got fluffy
30:12And then I'm also doing
30:13Waffle stitch
30:14Knitting doesn't like
30:15To hang vertically
30:16So the shapes team
30:18Are knitting a border
30:19To avoid the entire
30:20Wall hanging
30:21Curling in on itself
30:22We're doing garter stitch
30:24At the side
30:24So that we have
30:25A cohesive pattern
30:26Going up the side
30:27Of the panel
30:27This frame
30:28Not only gives it
30:30A uniform frame
30:30That we don't need
30:31To worry about
30:31When we've completed it
30:32But it also helps
30:34To prevent the stockinette
30:35From curling as much
30:36Has anyone ever made
30:38A panel
30:38For a wall before?
30:40I have not
30:41I've got a big
30:42Tapestry crochet
30:43In my kitchen
30:44Of course
30:45And how long
30:46Did it take you?
30:47Please tell me
30:48Under eight hours
30:49Because I'm quite
30:54A slow knitter
30:55I have opted
30:56To crochet
30:57It will look different
30:58But it's supposed
30:59To look different
30:59Because everybody's
31:00Panels are going
31:01To look different
31:02When they get
31:02Put together anyway
31:03Knits and crochet
31:05Stitches differ
31:05In size and tension
31:07Making the panels
31:08Match requires
31:09Careful swatching
31:10Measuring
31:11And adjusting
31:12Stitch counts
31:13Thought I'd measured it
31:14But it's come out
31:15Too big
31:15Can we lay it together
31:16So
31:17Quite considerably smaller
31:21I'll start again
31:22And I'll reduce it
31:24To see if I can
31:24Get it to fit
31:25Lydia's better
31:26I hope this doesn't
31:28Mean that I don't
31:29Finish it
31:29I really do hope
31:30But yeah
31:31Okay team
31:32Where are we at
31:34God knows
31:34I'm lagging
31:36Vastly behind
31:37The more varied
31:38The stitches
31:39Textures
31:40And yarn weights
31:41The harder it will be
31:42To join the individual
31:43Panels
31:43And for it to hang
31:45Smoothly
31:45Okay
31:48So what is this
31:49We have a human head
31:50What is that
31:51It's like tentacle arms
31:53Okay
31:53Tentacle arms
31:54Which part are you
31:57So which part is the
31:58Red
32:00Arms
32:01The arms
32:02The arms are red
32:02But the body's purple
32:04Yeah
32:04Okay
32:05Why not
32:06Why not
32:07It's playfully imaginative
32:09And the interactive bits
32:10We're going to be
32:11Stuck on top
32:12Okay
32:13Lydia's going to do a jacket
32:14For her body
32:15I'm going to try
32:16And do some trunks
32:17It's always good to include
32:18As many different things
32:20As possible
32:20Okay
32:21Is there any part
32:22Of anyone that's a little bit
32:23Worried and concerned
32:24About time
32:25I mean absolutely
32:26It's delirium
32:28Well I will leave you
32:29To all of your beastly activities
32:32And I will see you soon
32:33How's it going to you
32:37So how did you come up with that
32:41As soon as we opened it up
32:42We saw there were circles there
32:44And then we thought
32:44Shapes
32:45Shapes just come to mind
32:46Educational
32:47Absolutely
32:48It all kind of matches
32:49And like you say
32:50You found a common ground
32:51Like yeah
32:52It's supposed to look like
32:53It was done by three different people
32:54Yeah
32:54But by having the same background
32:56Across all three parts
32:57When we joined them together
32:58It's a bit more cohesive
32:59What are some of the interactive ideas
33:02That you've got
33:02As part of your wall hanging
33:03Has anybody got any interactive
33:09Yeah
33:09It's got a bit of glitter
33:11And a bit of fluff here
33:12Also be adding shoelaces
33:14So that the kids can learn
33:15How to tie shoes
33:16Yeah
33:17We decided to keep it simple
33:18Just because
33:19Our design has a lot of colour
33:21And a lot going on
33:23She's got a little bit of a face
33:34Like a lemon now
33:34Sour-mouthed
33:35How are you Isaac
33:37How's it going
33:38Um it's going
33:40So on this pink one
33:41That I've done down here
33:42I've done a waffle stitch
33:43And then I've got this
33:44Like really sparkly stuff
33:45Over here
33:45Oh Isaac
33:46It's fantastic
33:47That's so lovely Isaac
33:49This is so far
33:51But while the Shapes team
33:52Are focused on the sensory
33:53The Sea Creature team
33:55Are leaning into interactivity
33:57Now it's just adding
33:58As much interactive nature
33:59As we can
34:00He'll have a jacket
34:01With a zip
34:01I am embarking on hair
34:03We'll have applications of
34:05Toes and seaweed
34:06And anything
34:07That's on the seabed
34:09I'm going to put some velcro
34:10On the swimming briefs
34:11So they're going to be
34:12Removable
34:12And put on a ball
34:13Knitters
34:17You're halfway through this challenge
34:19You have four hours remaining
34:20Well clearly nobody
34:23Wants to play with me
34:24In the final four hours
34:31Knitters should be finishing
34:33Their interactive elements
34:34And joining their panels
34:35To make a creature
34:36That hangs as one
34:38I'm very glad
34:39We went with the same
34:40Background colours
34:41Yeah
34:41Although I do look at this now
34:43And think oh god
34:44It's so plain
34:44I don't know if I like it
34:46The whole team
34:48Has been very cohesive
34:49In terms of the background colour
34:50And also created a border
34:52And also created a border
34:52Factored into each panel
34:53So it will sit flat
34:55My slight concern is that
34:57Having like a plain cream background
34:59Doesn't scream imagination
35:01And fun and excitement to me
35:03This team has spent more time
35:05On the interactiveness of it
35:07There's the embellishments
35:08And all the little bits
35:09They haven't necessarily thought about
35:10How everything links together
35:12It's looking a bit of chaos over here
35:16I've got 25 rows left
35:19We just haven't got that time
35:20Okay
35:21Okay
35:22Okay
35:23Okay
35:23The end result is what counts
35:25We need to get it finished
35:26It's Kids Week
35:34And the knitters are working in teams
35:36To create interactive
35:37Children's wall hangings
35:39By now
35:40Each team should have completed
35:41Their individual panels
35:43And be attaching them together
35:44I am now casting off my panel
35:47And I'm going to get ready
35:48To put these all together
35:49Can you hang it under mine Isaac?
35:52Is it good?
35:53It's matching up
35:54Yeah
35:54But the Sea Creature team
35:55Are drowning
35:56We're all individually
35:58Trying to finish our panels
35:59At the moment
36:00Knitters
36:02One hour to go
36:04Oh no
36:05In the final hour
36:06Knitters must complete
36:07Their wall hanging
36:08And attach them to dowels
36:10To be hung from the yarn barn roof
36:11But the Sea Creature team
36:13Haven't even finished their panels
36:14Let alone worked out
36:16How to join them
36:16It might just be a case of
36:19A quick and visible seam
36:20To join them all together
36:21We don't know
36:22How this thing
36:24Is going to end up on the frame
36:25I don't give a flying whatever about
36:28Monkeys
36:29Monkey
36:29Good idea
36:30How's it going over here?
36:32You're sewing together
36:33Embellishments are done
36:34We're sewing together
36:35I'm doing mattress stitch
36:37So that the seam is invisible
36:38Just because I want the stitches
36:39To look as if they're knitted
36:40Into each other
36:41We are calm
36:42You are very calm
36:43We are the zen group
36:43That's true
36:44I feel like the frantic
36:45Is coming from over there
36:47Good
36:48I'm going to go check in
36:51On the other team
36:52So I'll see you in a bit
36:53Bye Tom
36:54Bye Tom
36:54Oh okay
36:55We're doing that now
36:56Let's start thinking about
36:57Getting the pieces together
36:58Yeah
36:59Yeah
36:59This is not coming along
37:00Is it?
37:01When is the plan
37:02To start joining?
37:03I see one panel
37:04Is being joined right now
37:05About 25 minutes ago
37:06You do know that
37:07You have to have this
37:08On the pole right?
37:09Yeah
37:09And there's not much time left right?
37:11Yeah
37:11Oh yeah
37:11Yeah
37:12Thank you
37:12How do we think
37:15We want to attach this
37:16To the rods?
37:17When I made
37:17My wall hanging
37:19I just took one long thread
37:20And went round and round
37:22The dowel
37:22Whip it
37:23Whip it
37:24The whip stitch
37:27Wraps around the dowel
37:28And the edge of the fabric
37:29Holding both securely in place
37:31But it takes time to do well
37:33The sea creature team
37:37Are now attempting
37:37To sew their panels together
37:39Whilst finishing
37:40Their interactive elements
37:41At the same time
37:42I really need my panel
37:44To put my embellishments on
37:46I've got to put
37:47I need like some small sharp scissors
37:50I need small sharp scissors
37:52Here
37:53Small scissors
37:53Oh here
37:54Got em
37:55Got em
37:55Got em
37:55Got em
37:55Got em
37:56If you can sew one end
37:58While I sew it onto the pole
37:59So what
38:01When
38:01The sea creature team
38:05Have no option
38:05But to roughly sew
38:07Their top panel
38:07To the dowel
38:08Yeah roll like this
38:09Yeah that's the job
38:10Really quickly
38:11I'm all finished
38:15Well done guys
38:16Well done
38:17How long have we got
38:22This doesn't match
38:23As far as she can
38:23Okay okay
38:24At this point
38:25Yep
38:26My pants are on
38:27Well it's better than your pants off
38:29So
38:29Knitters
38:31Finish your rows
38:33Needles down
38:34Time is up
38:35Who's at their pudding
38:36And who is having an extra serving
38:38And who is having an extra serving
38:38Of sprouts
38:39I love sprouts
38:41No matter whether we win or lose
38:44I'm really proud of this
38:46Ta-da
38:48Oh dear
38:50Eight hours
38:52And approximately 36,000 stitches later
38:55The teams have pulled off
38:57Two intricate interactive wall hangings
38:59Worthy of a child's bedroom
39:01Well done knitters
39:05That is two interactive wall hangings complete
39:08Come on in judges
39:09Oh my goodness
39:14Look at this
39:15Shall we look at this one first
39:23Yes
39:24On the top panel
39:27Simon's created a head
39:28With a zip up mouth
39:29And applique sunglasses
39:31Lydia created tentacle arms
39:34And a zip vest
39:35Dip tea
39:36A crochet panel
39:37With velcro trunks
39:39Holger's contribution
39:40Intarsia feet
39:42With pom pom toenails
39:43Well there's a lot
39:45To unpick here
39:47There is a lot
39:48Lots of different texture
39:49Stitches
39:51Lots of different colour
39:52Obviously
39:53Super bit of textured knitting
39:55At the bottom there
39:56Yeah
39:56Very nice
39:57Pants
39:59Oh
40:00Obviously we have a different edge
40:04Here
40:04Because it's a crochet panel
40:08It has come in narrower
40:09We have this bulge
40:12Slight bulge
40:13Yeah
40:13Yeah
40:14Don't we
40:15A zip
40:17Putting zips into knitwear
40:18Can be really challenging
40:20What you always want
40:22Is for it to sit flat
40:23And that's what this is doing
40:24It's sitting beautifully
40:25And then we get to another zip
40:27But
40:31Looks like he's talking
40:35I do like
40:41The idea of the garter stitch
40:43I like that
40:44Very much
40:45Edge
40:45Yes
40:45Although
40:47It sort of
40:48Stops here
40:50So
40:52They don't
40:53Match
40:53It looks like
40:55It's been sewn on
40:57It's very visible
40:58You've got this
41:00Slightly uneven effect
41:02Here
41:04We've got the join
41:05Between the panels
41:07I mean
41:08It's not brilliant
41:09Do you know
41:10That's one of the things
41:11About
41:12Planning ahead
41:14Thinking about how you're finishing
41:15Consideration
41:16When you start
41:16Yeah
41:17And then what do you think
41:19Of the second one
41:20Tracy
41:24Has made an
41:24Intarsia face
41:25With sparkly details
41:27Isaac
41:28A textured caterpillar
41:30With movable legs
41:31And Ailsa's contribution
41:33A skirt
41:34With tie-up shoes
41:36And a furry friend
41:37It does actually
41:39Make me smile
41:40The way
41:41It follows through
41:42With all the different colours
41:43This is a much
41:44Neater
41:44Overall
41:45Concept
41:46They've all gone
41:47For the same
41:48Background colour
41:49Yes
41:50And created
41:50A very uniform
41:53Wall hanging
41:54Their garter stitch
41:56At the edges
41:56There's no tension problems
41:59I mean I think that's really
42:01Beautifully executed
42:03I'm really enchanted by the face
42:06It's just a fantastic character
42:08I just love this
42:11These panels are lovely
42:13Feels
42:14All the different textures
42:15The legs move
42:16The legs move
42:17Okay
42:18Look this is cool
42:20I like that
42:21And finally we get to this section
42:23I'm practising my shoelace tie
42:26Yeah
42:26And it worked
42:27There's not as much interactive things happening
42:34There aren't really any little pouches
42:39Or surprises
42:41So Dyne Sheila have you come to a decision
42:46This week's winning wall hanging
42:50Is
42:51This one
42:56Which team worked
43:01On this one
43:02I loved it
43:04I could see
43:05A children's book
43:06Opening with this character
43:08Running all the way through it
43:10Well a huge constitulations
43:12To Isaac, Ailsa
43:13And Tracy
43:15It's now up to Dyne Sheila
43:21To decide who will be cast off
43:23Based on their performances
43:24Across both challenges
43:26What a week
43:28It's kids week
43:29Huh
43:30Who in particular
43:31Has impressed you this week?
43:33Isaac has impressed me
43:34Talking about progression
43:37From week one
43:39When he made the
43:39Rather
43:40Not great
43:42In Tarsia
43:43To this week
43:45When we saw
43:46Planet Earth
43:47Beautifully defined
43:48I loved the texture
43:49Of his Explorer jacket
43:52I just thought that was
43:53One of the best things I've seen
43:55Very special
43:57And he also came up with
43:59The cohesive element
44:00From the group challenge
44:02Absolutely
44:02Yes he's got a really clear vision
44:04I feel he's really stepped up
44:06This week
44:06Ailsa
44:08She has really interesting
44:12Quirky ideas
44:14She's bubbling
44:15With imagination
44:17Who's at risk
44:19At being cast off this week?
44:21Dipped is in danger
44:22She tried new techniques
44:26But it didn't quite work
44:27She was in the losing panel
44:30It was too confusing
44:31Too many disparate elements
44:34Simon
44:35We're coming to a crunch point
44:39And speaking about
44:41The variety of stitches
44:42I think he has used
44:43Every crochet stitch
44:44That he knows
44:45We're at that point
44:46In the competition now
44:47Simon
44:48Is not the strongest
44:50At this level
44:51Is a mace enough
44:52To take him through?
44:54I just don't know
44:55What a week it's been
44:59It's time to find out
45:00Who's knit big
45:01And whose time it is
45:02To sit on the naughty step
45:03So
45:04The big knitter
45:05This week
45:07Is Isaac
45:12Well done
45:15Well done
45:16Well done
45:16Well done
45:16You can all join me
45:17In giving a big
45:18To Isaac
45:22Congratulations
45:22Thank you
45:23And as always
45:27This part gets tougher
45:29And tougher
45:29As the weeks go by
45:31The person
45:32Being cast off
45:34Is
45:35Dipty
45:39I knew
45:41Aww
45:42You've been so fantastic
45:45Aww
45:46I'm going to get a bit tearful
45:48Because
45:48I'm sad to be leaving
45:50I've made such a good
45:51Group of friends
45:52But
45:53I was starting to feel
45:54Out of my depth
45:55To be absolutely honest with you
45:57I'm absolutely
45:58Gassed
45:59To have this
46:00She vows
46:01Group hug
46:01You're in the middle
46:03I love her
46:03I'll be in the middle
46:05I'll do it
46:05I'm doing it
46:05I'm doing it
46:06Tick
46:06Tick
46:07Tick
46:07Tick
46:07Tick

46:11Don't
46:11You'll make me cry
46:12Next time
46:15Knitted food
46:16Good enough to eat
46:17I'm making
46:18Sunday roast
46:19It's my favourite dinner
46:20And the ultimate
46:22Textured cardigan
46:23There you go
46:23Beautiful
46:24Hold on
46:25Hold on
46:25Hold on
46:26Something has gone wrong
