00:00A new generation of knitters are taking the world by storm.
00:04And 10 of the nation's most talented have joined me here in Scotland to battle it out for the ultimate crown.
00:11Each week they will face two mind-blowing challenges right here in our magical yarn barn.
00:24Previously, the knitters tackled their first solo challenge
00:28to reinvent a Fair Isle tank top.
00:31I've never done Fair Isle before.
00:33I'm in big trouble.
00:34Dear God.
00:35And then turned their needles to our team challenge to knit a sofa.
00:39I don't want to say that I've bit enough more than I can chew.
00:42Ailsa's knits shone through.
00:44It's just so beautiful.
00:47Dipti came close to being cast off.
00:50Oh!
00:52But it was Gordon who was the first knitter to depart the yarn barn.
00:56Now, it's week two and our nine remaining knitters have a lot to live up to
01:01because it's Icons Week.
01:04Welcome to Game of Wall, Britain's best knitter.
01:08Hello, knitters, and welcome back.
01:18Now, this week is Icons Week.
01:21And for your solo knit,
01:22Di and Sheila would love for you to make an iconic doggy outfit.
01:29We would like you to use both knit and crochet
01:32to make a two-piece outfit.
01:34It has to be practical
01:38because if it doesn't fit the dog, then it's no use.
01:43We would like it to be something that's iconic to you
01:46and it can be a person, a place,
01:49and we want you to use that as your theme
01:50to make this incredible doggy apparel.
01:56You have 12 hours to complete this challenge.
01:59Your time starts now.
02:00Now, let's get knitting and crocheting.
02:07Our knitters may be used to making beautiful garments,
02:10but working with animals demands a unique approach.
02:14I have never made a garment for an animal.
02:18With measurements taken from two Italian greyhounds, Dana and Dobby,
02:22the knitters must balance aesthetics and practicality
02:26to design for a tricky body shape.
02:27I haven't got a real-life dog in my life,
02:29so I've kind of made myself a little friend to help.
02:32I'm used to making things to measure,
02:34so when I need to make something for a dog,
02:36I need to have something to work from.
02:38The knitters must create a custom design
02:41based on something iconic to them.
02:43It's inspired by David Bowie.
02:45Freddie Mercury.
02:45What could be more iconic than a unicorn?
02:50Each knitter will create an individual design,
02:53but there are key elements they must include.
02:56All designs must incorporate both knitting and crochet.
03:01Knitting uses two needles to build rows of stitches,
03:04while crochet uses a hook to create one stitch at a time.
03:10First, knitters must create the body of the garment,
03:14choosing stitches that ensure both comfort and functionality,
03:18and a good fit around the legs, neck, and rump.
03:21Knitters can then add embellishments
03:23to bring each iconic look to life.
03:26Lastly, knitters must create headgear
03:28that combines comfort, security, and style
03:32in a piece that stays put.
03:34Normally, a design like this might take around 30 hours,
03:37but in the yarn barn, they have just 12.
03:42Doggy outfits.
03:44What makes it such a difficult thing to make?
03:46Small pieces can be more complex to knit.
03:50They really have to get shaping right.
03:52Especially a headpiece,
03:53because one stitch can be the difference
03:55between it fitting or falling off.
03:57Tricky business.
03:58It is.
04:01For music-loving Meadow,
04:03there was only one icon she was ever going to choose,
04:07Freddie Mercury.
04:08I'm recreating his iconic yellow jacket
04:11that he wore on the A Kind of Magic Tour.
04:14Meadow will be knitting a yellow jacket,
04:17embellished underneath with buckles
04:18and sixpence button fastenings,
04:20to bring her favourite frontman to life.
04:23And for the headgear,
04:24she has chosen to crochet a tiny bejeweled crown.
04:29Hello, Meadow.
04:30Hello.
04:31Obviously, you're doing something that is important to you.
04:34Queen's been my favourite band for years now.
04:37Me and my dad, we went to see them perform in Belfast.
04:39What do you think your family are going to think of you being here?
04:42Um, I think they're all still a wee bit surprised.
04:46It's quite a big thing for me.
04:49I'm still in my A-levels.
04:51Wow.
04:51Still.
04:52Could you have ever imagined
04:53that you'd actually be here doing something like this
04:55on a TV show?
04:56A competition?
04:57No.
04:59Knitting is very, very important to me
05:01as I want to be a fashion designer
05:03and without it,
05:04I just, I don't know what else I would do.
05:07I've pushed myself so far to get to this point
05:09and I really want to win to just prove to myself
05:11that I can do it
05:12and I have what it takes.
05:14After last week's ill-fitting tank top,
05:20library worker Dipti is hoping to bring a little bit of magic
05:23to her iconic doggy outfit.
05:26It's going to be sparkly.
05:27It's going to be, um, unicorn-y.
05:31Dipti will be crocheting a unicorn horn for her headgear,
05:35complete with an extravagant mane.
05:37She's chosen a mix of sparkly yarn to make her dog coat,
05:40which she'll be knitting together
05:42in all the colours of the rainbow.
05:45Anyone who's crocheted with this kind of fancy yarn
05:47will know that it's impossible to see the stitches in it,
05:50so it is far easier to knit with it than it is to crochet.
05:54I am a massive fan of crochet.
05:57I'm not that great at knitting.
06:01Does this look OK or does this look terrible?
06:04Charity Partnerships director Lydia
06:06is also kicking off the challenge with her knitting needles.
06:09Lydia.
06:10Tom, hello.
06:10Which icon are we going for?
06:12Loosely inspired by the Notting Hill Carnival.
06:18Drawing inspiration from the iconic Notting Hill Carnival,
06:21Lydia's sparkly doggy outfit will include a striking crown
06:25of knitted feathers and a coat using a feather and fan lace stitch.
06:30People at home who don't necessarily know what lace knitting is,
06:33can you give us a little rundown?
06:35It's using the holes to create shape and patterns,
06:38so it should have a wavy look.
06:41I love that.
06:42Do you have a dog now?
06:43No.
06:44Would never have a dog.
06:46People of Britain.
06:47Don't hate me, but no, I'm not a dog person.
06:56Last week, student Isaac didn't manage to finish either challenge,
07:00so this week he's determined to stay on track.
07:03You're all right.
07:05You're doing great.
07:06It just needs to get on the dog.
07:11My design is based on the mascot of Philadelphia's ice hockey team.
07:18I went to university out there, and it is just like a huge, huge part of my life.
07:21Isaac plans to knit his doggy coat into an ice hockey jersey,
07:26with a name and even an ice rink embroidered onto the back.
07:30His headgear helmet will be crocheted using the loop stitch
07:32to bring the iconic Philadelphia Flyers ice hockey mascot, Gritty, to life.
07:38So I'm currently knitting the body.
07:40This is the front part, and then obviously I've got my armholes here.
07:43I am slightly concerned that it's maybe an obscure icon.
07:46I'm not sure if Di and Sheila are up to date on their American hockey.
07:49Do you notice this little doggy here?
07:54Yeah, right? It's wolfy.
07:56It's much smaller than August.
07:58It is, but it's not the size of the dog in a fight,
08:00it's the size of the fight in a dog, right?
08:02Simon is just housewife's catnip, isn't he?
08:09A few hours into the challenge,
08:11knitters should be starting to consider
08:12how to shape their dog coats to the body.
08:15So far, so crafts.
08:17Simon, what are you up to?
08:19My inspiration comes from buildings,
08:21big Gothic, cathedrals.
08:23Yes.
08:24Going for lots of texture,
08:26moss stitch,
08:26just to try and really bring over that kind of stonework.
08:31Simon's outfit is inspired by iconic Gothic architecture,
08:34such as Canterbury Cathedral.
08:36For the headpiece,
08:37he will be crocheting a tiny bell hat.
08:40And for the body,
08:41he will be using moss stitch
08:42to create a stonework effect,
08:44including a Gothic arch.
08:46To embellish his coat,
08:48he will be crocheting a stained glass window
08:50in the shape of a paw print.
08:52Now that's what I call architecture.
08:54That's really interesting,
08:57because moss is one of the most difficult stitches.
09:02To do well.
09:03To do well.
09:03Right.
09:04To get a good tension.
09:06I think you've got a very good tension on that.
09:08It really does look like stonework.
09:11In this piece here,
09:12I'm going to inset some crochet stained glass.
09:15Stained glass.
09:15I'm not a crocheter,
09:17but a stained glass is more of a free-handed thing.
09:20So I'm going to make it up on the fly.
09:24You're taking a wee bit of a risk there.
09:26Yeah, a little bit of a risk.
09:28I'm trying to leave myself plenty of time.
09:36Stephanie, what's your plan for your doggy outfit?
09:38It's going to be a Chelsea pensioner.
09:40A Chelsea pensioner?
09:41Yes!
09:43Stephanie has been inspired
09:44by the iconic retired British Army veterans,
09:47the Chelsea pensioners.
09:49She will be recreating
09:51their classic red and black uniform,
09:54doggy style.
09:55She plans to use fancy stitch
09:57to create a firm fabric for the coat
09:59and to top it all off,
10:01a crochet black tricorn hat.
10:04Chelsea pensioners are pretty well-renowned
10:06for having the uniform that fits like a glove.
10:10I'm knitting with two strands.
10:11OK.
10:11Because it's really thick.
10:13Thick.
10:13So with two strands,
10:14will it feel slightly stiffer when it's on?
10:16It's going to give it that tension
10:18to make it feel like a coat
10:20rather than a floppy jumper.
10:21Yes, and that's what I wanted.
10:23Great.
10:24Also creating a thicker doggy coat,
10:27but using crochet instead of knit,
10:29it's psychotherapist Tracy.
10:31It's Ziggy Stardust.
10:32Oh!
10:33David Bowie.
10:34When I thought of icons,
10:35he was the first one I thought of.
10:37Inspired by the legend that is David Bowie,
10:41Tracy's dog coat will spell out
10:43her favourite star man's name
10:44in mosaic crochet.
10:47Mosaic crochet creates a thicker fabric
10:49because it layers stitches
10:50on top of each other.
10:52But the real showstopper
10:53will be her recreation
10:55of the iconic spiky hairstyle.
10:57Oh, you pretty thing.
10:58Oh, wow.
11:02The main panel will be a rectangle
11:04and then you're going to add all the...
11:06And I'm going to shape with knitting
11:07and with crochet, yeah.
11:11Okay.
11:15To ensure a successful fit,
11:18knitters can use shaping
11:19to contour the body
11:20or even sleeves
11:21for a snug fit to the legs.
11:24And Holger has got some grand plans
11:25for how to combine beauty
11:27and practicality
11:28within his design.
11:31Holger, what is your doggy outfit?
11:33It's to do with performance art
11:36based on the Italian commedia dell'arte.
11:43Okay.
11:44It's very high-flying,
11:45highfalutin for a dog outfit.
11:47Oh, wow.
11:50Holger has been inspired
11:52by 18th century Italian theatre.
11:55Of course he has.
11:56To emulate the flamboyant comic characters,
11:58he plans to knit a stripy pink and white coat
12:01complete with exaggerated balloon sleeves.
12:04His balaclava-style headgear
12:05is shaped around the ear holes
12:07and topped off
12:08with a miniature crochet crown.
12:11Bellissimo.
12:12We're working on
12:13creating some exaggerated shapes,
12:16especially around your sleeve.
12:17We're getting there.
12:18Okay.
12:19Eventually, slowly, slowly.
12:21So far, I've got the neck for the dog.
12:29I've split off for the two legs.
12:32I've done the back piece
12:34and now I'm working along the back.
12:36Ailsa has been inspired
12:37by a Glaswegian icon.
12:39In the city I come from, Glasgow,
12:41there's a statue that's famous
12:44because it's always got
12:44a traffic cone on its head
12:46and this statue
12:47is said to have inspired
12:48some of the world's greatest street artists.
12:52For her iconic outfit,
12:54Ailsa will knit a grey jumper
12:56incorporating intarsia
12:57to spell out the dog's name
12:59in graffiti-style lettering.
13:01Then, inspired by the famous
13:03Duke of Wellington statue,
13:05she will crochet her dog
13:06a tiny traffic cone hat.
13:08I hope the judges see
13:11where I've gone with it.
13:13I'm kind of concerned
13:14that they might see it
13:15a bit silly,
13:16a dog with a cone on its head.
13:21Knitters,
13:22you are halfway through
13:24this challenge.
13:26You've got six hours left.
13:27At this point in the challenge,
13:31knitters should be finishing
13:32off the body of their doggy coats
13:34and starting to move
13:36on to the finishing details.
13:40Hi, Meadow.
13:41Hi.
13:42Let's see what you're doing.
13:43I've got the body done
13:44and now I'm working on the sleeves.
13:48Yeah.
13:49So you do use a twisted stitch.
13:53Is there a reason for that?
13:55So, wait, just the way I've
13:56knit, um, okay.
13:59It's quite interesting
14:00because twisting the stitch
14:01means you use less yarn.
14:04It goes tighter.
14:05So this is where we can
14:06see clearly that you're
14:07doing one row untwisted
14:09and one row twisted.
14:11A twisted knit stitch
14:13is when the needle
14:14is inadvertently inserted
14:15into the back of the loop
14:17instead of the front,
14:18tightening and creating
14:19a twist in the stitch.
14:21It's a common mistake
14:22made by new knitters.
14:24Okay.
14:25Thank you.
14:26Thank you.
14:32I am behind on time.
14:34Just a little bit apprehensive.
14:36Just a bit.
14:37Just a tad, yes.
14:39It's a little bit tight now.
14:40The knitters have only a few hours left
14:49of their solo challenge
14:50to create iconic
14:52two-piece doggy outfits.
14:54Well, the sleeves are sleeving.
14:56Not as speedy as I like,
14:58but hey, what's new?
14:58While some have moved on
15:00to giving their coats
15:01their iconic look.
15:02I'm starting with
15:03to brush down the fibres
15:04so that it has a bit of a spray paint effect
15:07and sort of look like graffiti.
15:11I am behind.
15:13First time crocheter Simon
15:15is having to simplify
15:16his stained glass panel
15:18into one basic shape
15:19rather than the colourful paw print.
15:21I'm just going to make up
15:22something around it
15:23to make it look like
15:24a wider stained glass.
15:25I'm not a crocheter.
15:26The stained glass
15:28is effectively
15:28winging it.
15:35By now,
15:36knitters should be moving
15:37on to their headgear.
15:39Di and Sheila
15:39are expecting
15:40careful planning
15:41around the shape
15:42of the head
15:43and the ear holes
15:44to make sure
15:44those doggy hats
15:45stay on those doggy heads.
15:48For the hat,
15:49I'm basically recreating
15:50my mascot's head
15:51so it's completely fluffy.
15:52I'm probably going to tie it
15:53underneath the neck
15:54just to make sure
15:55that it can get over his head.
15:56It's a kind of a balaclava.
15:59There's obviously
16:00a fairly big space
16:02for the ears to poke through.
16:04I'm going to do
16:05the mane for hat
16:07in what I call
16:08unicorn fur.
16:10David Bowie's wig.
16:14And we're going to knit
16:15the tri-corners round
16:17and then fold them up.
16:18In my head,
16:20it works,
16:20but whether it actually
16:21works on the dog,
16:22I don't know.
16:24Yeah.
16:24there would be
16:26some gold parts
16:27going along across
16:27to make it a little wee crown.
16:31So Di and Sheila earlier,
16:32they told me about
16:33how the twisted stitch
16:35actually changes
16:35the inside as well.
16:37So that was something new
16:38because I'm still learning.
16:39I still have a lot
16:42to learn with my knitting
16:43and I'll hopefully do more
16:45in the next few years
16:46at university and stuff
16:47and then
16:48to go on to being a designer.
16:50That's the end goal.
16:53Knitters and hookers.
16:5530 minutes.
17:01God, no.
17:01How many?
17:0230 minutes.
17:03No.
17:04You've got to get those on.
17:05Sew that up.
17:08I'm in the process
17:09of making my little feathers
17:10for the headpiece.
17:11At carnival,
17:12you make things
17:12very last minute.
17:16I've still got
17:17one more seam to do,
17:18but I decided
17:19I would sew it up.
17:21Hogger.
17:22So this is the jumper.
17:24This is the puffs for you.
17:25This is the jumper.
17:27Love it.
17:28And Dipti,
17:29where are you at?
17:30Um, coat's finished.
17:32Unicorn is nearly done.
17:34Looks great.
17:38What am I going to do
17:39with that?
17:41Kind of wanting
17:42more colours in it
17:42than that, but...
17:47So that's me.
17:51Knitters and hookers.
17:52That is your time up.
17:54Time to put those outfits
17:55on those little doggies.
18:00That's nine doggy two-pieces
18:02in just 12 hours.
18:05I did literally as much
18:06as I could
18:07right up to the wire.
18:08It was a little bit
18:09panicky at the end,
18:10but I think I did all right.
18:14Well done, knitters.
18:16Now it's time for Di and Sheila
18:17to decide
18:18who's made a dog's dinner
18:20and whose outfit
18:21is the dog's ball.
18:22Actually,
18:23I don't think we can say that.
18:24We probably shouldn't say that.
18:25I don't think you should, Tom.
18:26Anyway, release the hounds.
18:29First up, Dipti.
18:31Our designs today
18:32are modelled by
18:32doggy superstars
18:34Dobby and Dana,
18:35who love long walks,
18:37treats,
18:37and playing dresser.
18:41Yes!
18:43Oh, my gosh.
18:45Aw.
18:46I love her.
18:50Ah.
18:59She's so beautiful.
19:01They're tears of joy.
19:03She looks absolutely beautiful.
19:06I've got to really congratulate you
19:08on your knitting here.
19:10Thank you.
19:11Because I know
19:12that that was not
19:13your strongest point.
19:14No.
19:15We've got the lovely mane here,
19:16and then we've got
19:17the headpiece.
19:18The horn is even bigger
19:19and better and blitzier
19:20than we had been expecting.
19:22Thank you very much, Dipti.
19:23Thank you.
19:24Lydia.
19:24Lydia.
19:24The glitter.
19:37The glitter.
19:38Colors work incredibly well.
19:42Very much like the feather
19:43and fan lace pattern.
19:46Because it does really
19:48allow the dog to move.
19:49All the stitches that you used
19:51were entirely appropriate.
19:52Tracey.
19:59Aw.
20:05I think you've embodied
20:06Bowie in that head.
20:10Well done.
20:13It's beautifully executed.
20:15You know, it's the crochet.
20:17Lovely, fabulous crochet.
20:18My reservation is
20:20in the stiffness
20:21of the coat.
20:25It doesn't show
20:26her beautiful form
20:27and shape.
20:28She's ended up
20:29with bare shoulders
20:30and a bare chest.
20:32Elsa.
20:35Aw.
20:36The lettering is fab.
20:46I haven't really seen
20:47that done before
20:48and I really love it.
20:51The shadowing effect
20:53really, really works.
20:54It's fab.
20:55Thank you.
20:56Thank you.
20:56Well done, Elsa.
20:57Thank you.
20:58And Isaac, you're up next.
21:00Such a good boy.
21:04Oh!
21:05Oh!
21:06LAUGHTER
21:06I love this
21:15crocheted loop stitch.
21:17So the hat
21:18is fun
21:19but in terms of
21:20working for the dog
21:21I'm not sure
21:23that the headpiece
21:24works.
21:25One good shake
21:26and the headpiece
21:28goes.
21:30Simon?
21:34Oh!
21:35What?
21:45So your idea
21:47was
21:47this was a stained glass
21:49motif.
21:50Yeah.
21:50I only realised
21:54when I was making it
21:55how big it had got
21:57and I was just like
21:58I can't really
21:59fit anything else
22:00in there.
22:01I would have liked
22:01to see more
22:02different colours there.
22:05I loved
22:06the gothic arch
22:07that you made.
22:09The moss stitch
22:09works incredibly well
22:11but it's been
22:12slightly swallowed up
22:13by the stained glass.
22:14Yeah.
22:16Meadow?
22:17Meadow?
22:19LAUGHTER
22:20I'm concerned
22:29about the fit.
22:30I think it looks
22:30too stretched.
22:32This should not
22:33be as tightly pulled
22:34over the back.
22:37We do love the crown.
22:39We absolutely do.
22:40And the construction's
22:41really excellent.
22:43You've shown some
22:44really lovely
22:44crochet skills there.
22:46But it's not
22:47the most secure.
22:48doesn't quite fit
22:50the practical part
22:52of the brief.
22:56Holger.
22:57No.
22:59Go on,
23:00be fabulous for me.
23:01I love it.
23:12I have to say,
23:13incredibly well done.
23:18I just do think
23:19it's beautiful.
23:20It's beautifully made.
23:22Thank you.
23:22and I always cry
23:25when I see
23:25something beautiful.
23:29God.
23:32I really appreciate
23:34the skill in it.
23:36You have achieved
23:37a headpiece
23:38that stays on.
23:39Congratulations.
23:40The execution
23:41of what you've done
23:42is pretty flawless.
23:44Thank you.
23:44Stephanie.
23:52Oh, look at that.
23:55Look at it.
23:55Oh, that's beautiful.
23:58Thank you.
24:05What I love about
24:06the design
24:07is the back.
24:09You've got this
24:09great pattern
24:11running all the way down
24:12which gives it
24:13a tailored look.
24:15I'm less excited
24:17about the join here.
24:20It's not been
24:21sewn up
24:22quite so well.
24:25This is a bit
24:26messier than the rest.
24:28The hat,
24:29I mean,
24:29it's incredibly cute.
24:31Yeah.
24:31but it's not
24:32been engineered
24:33which is what
24:34we were really
24:34looking for.
24:37Thank you very much,
24:38Stephanie.
24:38Thank you.
24:39Thank you.
24:43Knitters,
24:44huge congratulations
24:45on all of those
24:46amazing outfits.
24:54The judges
24:55had said about
24:55my increases
24:56being a wee bit
24:56random and stuff.
24:57I was sort of
24:58winging it a bit
24:59as I went along.
25:00I didn't
25:01really mean
25:03to make
25:03Di cry.
25:05I know
25:06it was happy tears
25:07but
25:07it always
25:09feels
25:10makes me feel
25:11emotional as well.
25:20Back in the yarn barn
25:21it's time
25:22for our team knit
25:23and one final chance
25:25to impress our judges
25:26before the cast off.
25:28For this week's
25:29group challenge
25:30you are going
25:31to be split
25:31into three teams
25:32of three
25:33to create
25:34an iconic
25:3680s jumper.
25:39Oh wow.
25:41So the 80s
25:42is famous
25:43for graphic
25:45really iconic
25:47inventive designs.
25:49You can see
25:49we're wearing
25:50designs I made
25:51in the 80s.
25:52so we will be giving you
25:55a vintage 80s pattern
25:57for a women's jumper
25:59and we'll be asking
26:01you to make it
26:02in mohair
26:03just like my leg warmers.
26:06Very 80s.
26:07Totally 80s.
26:09We will be expecting
26:11to see 80s style
26:13motifs
26:14and patterns.
26:15We will also be looking
26:18for intarsia knitting.
26:23And as always
26:24the group challenge
26:25is judged blind
26:26so I'm going to ask
26:26Diane Sheila
26:27to leave the yarn barn.
26:29We're going to be
26:30splitting you up
26:31into three teams of three.
26:32So in team one
26:33Simon
26:34Dipti
26:35and Isaac.
26:36In team two
26:37Holger
26:38Tracy
26:39and Lydia.
26:41And in team three
26:42Elsa
26:43Meadow
26:44and Stephanie.
26:46You have ten hours.
26:47Your time starts now.
26:49Let's get knitting.
26:54OK.
26:55Are we ready for this?
26:56Yes.
26:56Yes.
26:57I'm so excited.
26:59To transport them
27:01back to the 80s
27:02we've given the teams
27:03an original vintage
27:04jumper pattern
27:05that they can adapt.
27:06Should we deal
27:07with shape further?
27:08Or would it be
27:08a loose crop?
27:11Yeah.
27:11OK.
27:11To create their
27:12bold 80s motifs
27:14knitters must use
27:15intarsia
27:16a technique used
27:17to create
27:17distinct blocks
27:18of colour.
27:19I like the idea
27:20of doing something
27:20really big on the front.
27:22Maybe the music
27:23or so.
27:24Music.
27:25I like that idea.
27:28They will be using
27:29mohair wool only
27:30a famously fuzzy
27:32and fluffy yarn
27:33which brings
27:34its own challenges.
27:37What are some
27:38of the things
27:38that could go wrong
27:39with using mohair?
27:40With all these
27:42extra fibres
27:43it does mean
27:43that their intarsia
27:44skills really need
27:45to be up there.
27:47Yeah.
27:47How are the teams
27:48going to work together
27:49to construct this piece?
27:51Sheila and I
27:52do it all the time
27:53if we've got to get
27:53something to a film
27:54or a catwalk
27:55or whatever
27:56we split it up
27:57front, back
27:58and one person
27:59does both sleeves
28:00but you have to
28:01work together
28:02to make it cohesive.
28:04That's a challenge
28:05especially in 10 hours.
28:09First
28:09each team
28:10must agree
28:11on a unified design
28:12for their garments.
28:14You know what I think
28:14is super 80s
28:15is this whole
28:16kind of like
28:17scar black and white
28:18checkerboard look.
28:20Do you know what I mean?
28:20OK
28:21and then we can put
28:21silver or something
28:22down that.
28:24Right.
28:26Yeah
28:26I think the whole
28:28black and white
28:29against the colour
28:30is quite strong.
28:32We could put ribbons
28:33and embellishments
28:34I've got lots of
28:34embellishments.
28:35Hold on Tracy
28:36hold on.
28:3680s jumpers
28:37were full of embellishments
28:38we need to have
28:39embellishments on this.
28:40OK
28:40let's make sure
28:41we can get the body done
28:42make it look good
28:43and go from there.
28:44Yeah.
28:46After much debate
28:48the team has chosen
28:49Holger's checkerboard
28:50design.
28:51Sticking with the
28:52vintage shape
28:52they'll use Intarsia
28:54to knit a black and
28:55white diagonal
28:55checkerboard motif
28:57over pastel pinks
28:58and purples.
29:00Tracy and Lydia
29:00will handle the body
29:01while Holger
29:02knits the sleeves.
29:04OK
29:04so the principal
29:04design I think
29:05we're good.
29:07And then decide
29:07if we're going
29:08to embellish it
29:08we might have
29:08some time.
29:09Yeah.
29:10Yeah.
29:12Over on the
29:13other team.
29:14What if we put
29:15balloons on it?
29:16Yeah.
29:17Yeah.
29:17Then we can
29:18mimic that on
29:19the sleeves
29:20and have like
29:21a balloon sleeve
29:22as well.
29:22Yeah.
29:23Yeah.
29:23That's a good idea.
29:24So balloons
29:24on the balloon sleeve.
29:25Yeah.
29:26We could have it.
29:27Or the balloon
29:27strings could be
29:28the balloon
29:28strings.
29:29Oh.
29:30Yes.
29:31That's actually a good idea.
29:33Their crop jumper
29:35has one long
29:35balloon sleeve
29:36and one short
29:37and an intarsia balloon
29:38design on the front
29:39complete with balloon
29:40strings.
29:41Isaac will knit
29:42the front of the
29:43jumper.
29:44Dipti will tackle
29:44the back
29:45while Simon
29:46will take on
29:47the balloon sleeves.
29:49There may not be
29:4999 of them
29:50but intarsia balloons
29:51will be a challenge.
29:53If we do one balloon
29:54we can incorporate
29:54colour into it
29:55so it could be like
29:55a zigzag balloon
29:56or something like that.
29:57OK.
29:57Try not to make it
29:58too concrete.
29:59I was just thinking
30:00of maybe a simple
30:00balloon.
30:01just in case
30:02there's someone
30:02who's not great
30:03at intarsia.
30:04That's fair.
30:06Over on the more
30:07musically minded team
30:08Meadow is running
30:10up that hill.
30:11I like it.
30:13I mean I kind of
30:13want to do the front.
30:14I'm happy for you
30:15to do the front.
30:17The team have chosen
30:18to capture the spirit
30:19of 80s music
30:21with the guitar motif
30:22on the front
30:23and belt buckle
30:24design along the hem
30:25and sheet music
30:27on the back.
30:28Stephanie will be
30:29doing the sleeves
30:29Elsa will be
30:31on the back
30:31while Meadow
30:32will be working
30:33on the front lead guitar.
30:35I thought the guitar
30:36would be a really
30:37nice piece for me
30:38to take on.
30:39I'm not too experienced
30:40in intarsia
30:41but I'm quite excited
30:42to take on this
30:43big piece
30:44and really push myself
30:45and see if I can do it
30:46because I think I can.
30:53About to start
30:53the intarsia
30:54it's the start
30:55of what's going
30:56to be a balloon.
30:58Intarsia is made up
30:59of blocks of colour
31:00which for the
31:01checkerboard team
31:02should work well.
31:03The checkerboard pattern
31:05is in intarsia.
31:06Yeah.
31:07It's in intarsia
31:08that's a little bit
31:08easier to knit.
31:09Yeah.
31:10For the guitar
31:11and balloon teams
31:12who need to create
31:13curved shapes
31:14this means carefully
31:16plotting their design
31:17shifting colour blocks
31:18gradually
31:19to simulate the curve.
31:21Think of it like
31:21building a curve
31:22out of Lego bricks.
31:24Without precise planning
31:25the curve
31:25could end up
31:26looking distorted.
31:27I've never done
31:28this technique before
31:29and it's really hard
31:31to see the stitches
31:31in my hair.
31:32There.
31:33See that?
31:34No I didn't see that.
31:35This is horrendous.
31:36It's literally like
31:37knitting with hair.
31:38This is going to be a challenge.
31:39Just count them
31:40as you purl it do?
31:41Yeah.
31:42Because you need to do purl right?
31:42Good work.
31:43Thank you.
31:44I'll count them as I purl.
31:44Save some time.
31:45Please don't talk to me.
31:49Oh I need to find out
31:50a bit more about this one.
31:51How's it going?
31:52That's quite the design.
31:53Are you planning
31:54on putting any
31:55embellishments
31:55on this jumper?
31:57Yes.
31:59To be determined.
32:01Is that a time situation?
32:02Oh that's a time situation.
32:03It's a personality situation Tom.
32:05We've just got to manage
32:06things carefully.
32:06Are you less is more?
32:08Yep.
32:09And you're more and small.
32:10I'm more is more.
32:11There's a bit of a clash
32:12of opinions.
32:13If he goes to the loo
32:14last minute I'll lock him in
32:15and then just jazz it up.
32:16Oh.
32:17Well we'll see.
32:18Well good luck
32:19and I hope you finish it.
32:21Yeah.
32:23Is there room
32:24for a little one in there?
32:25I do want to just show this
32:26because with intarsia
32:28and colour work
32:29that is what's going
32:30to get turned
32:31into a jumper.
32:32So you can see
32:33where she's at
32:34and how much further
32:36she has to go.
32:37It's my first time
32:37doing intarsia.
32:38First time doing intarsia.
32:40Okay.
32:42You know it's quite intricate
32:43to get like a good
32:44clean line
32:45when it comes to mohair.
32:47How are you making sure
32:48that that sits well?
32:49Not really sure.
32:50I think it's okay.
32:51Yeah.
32:51Super.
32:51Yeah.
32:53Okay well
32:54I wish you the best of luck.
33:00I don't think
33:01I did it properly.
33:06You want me to count them?
33:07Yeah.
33:09Alright.
33:09Fourth one in
33:10you've missed one.
33:12I just can't keep
33:13going.
33:14So the team have come up

37:15Mẹ là một người thân.
37:17With Meadow back the team must come up with a plan to attach the front and back together so they have a complete jumper.
37:24What we might have to do is have really short straps and pull that right over the shoulder.
37:28We'll have to find a magic way of sewing it together somehow.
37:39I see something that resembles a jumper over here.
37:41Yes.

42:35Oh, so...
42:36They've knitted them both going in the same direction.
42:41They don't align.
42:43The back is pinned, I think because of the difficulty with the asymmetry.
42:49Yes.
42:50It's such an ambitious design. It's not entirely worked.
42:56And what do you think of the third jumper?
42:58Well, Sheila, I think this is a really dramatic design.
43:06I like the graphic.
43:08Checkerboard, beautifully knitted.
43:10Nice intarsia, good intarsia.
43:12Really good intarsia.
43:14Some nice surprises along the way.
43:17Yeah.
43:18This is...
43:20Nice.
43:20This is interesting.
43:23It's really lovely, isn't it?
43:25You like the ball.
43:25Yeah, I do.
43:26I think that's a lovely detail.
43:29You know that thing when you've got to think on your feet
43:31and you know you haven't got time
43:32and it's going on the catwalk tomorrow
43:35and you end up thinking, what are we going to do?
43:38There's a real sense of people working very well together on this.
43:45You know, they're all singing from the same hymn sheet.
43:48OK, Diane, Sheila, it's time to make your decision.
44:00We have made a decision and in third place this week
44:05is the guitar sweater.
44:09So, who did that one?
44:11It was a really ambitious project.
44:13It's a shame about the neck and it not being finished.
44:18Yeah.
44:19So, in second place...
44:22..is the balloon sweater.
44:29So, can I ask who did this?
44:31Like the idea very much.
44:33Kind of light, airy, 80s fun.
44:36So, I guess...
44:38Yes.
44:39..there was a lot that we liked about this.
44:41One thing we particularly liked
44:43was we would be really hard-pressed
44:46to say that it was three different knitters.
44:48Thank you.
44:50APPLAUSE
44:50So, I definitely do think I put too much pressure on myself.
44:56I was really worried about the time
44:57and I also took on quite a big piece
44:59and complicated piece
45:00that I maybe didn't have the skills at the time to do.
45:03I hope I've done enough.
45:04I do hope I've done enough.
45:07I've done my all.
45:11Oh, what an amazing icon week.
45:13That was so much fun.
45:15But I have to get out of you.
45:18Who's in trouble?
45:22Well, Stephanie,
45:25we did like the idea of the Chelsea pensioner icon, but...
45:31Her sewing skills here really let her down.
45:34The 80s jumper that Stephanie was a part of the team
45:37really was not a success at all.
45:40So, I think Meadow...
45:43Her intarsia skills were not great.
45:46She was ambitious, but maybe over-ambitious.
45:49There were actually quite a lot of mistakes.
45:54Who's up for big knitter this week?
45:55For me, Holger nailed it.
45:59His design skills are immaculate.
46:03Lydia.
46:05I love Lydia's design.
46:07Yes.
46:08I really do.
46:09So, it is a tough one this week,
46:11but we have decided.
46:13Well done, knitters.
46:23I mean, you've absolutely smashed Icons Week.
46:26But it's a competition,
46:28so we are going to find out
46:30who has reached true perfection
46:32and who will sadly be cast off.
46:36So, our big knitter this week...
46:39is Holger.
46:44Many congratulations.
46:46I'm going to give Holger his sheep badge.
46:49There you are.
46:54And now for the part that we all hate.
46:59The person being cast off is...
47:02Meadow.
47:11You should be really, really proud
47:14of everything that you've done here.
47:19It's very sad to be new,
47:21and I've learned so many life skills.
47:23And being with the other knitters as well,
47:25seeing what different things they do
47:27and how I can take that into my own knitting,
47:28it's been so incredible.
47:29Meadow is so creative.
47:32I know she's not been knitting for very long,
47:34but I also know she can turn out
47:36some really good stuff,
47:37so I'm very excited to see what she creates.
47:39It's been a delight, you know,
47:40to be in her presence, to see her ideas.
47:43But her stitch work let her down, unfortunately,
47:46and it was just really sadly time for her to go.
47:49I'm really happy that I've taken part
47:51and had this experience,
47:52and I've loved every minute of it.
47:54Next time,
47:58we're heading to the beach
48:00as the knitters design swimsuits
48:03for Team GB.
48:07So, a little on the skimpy side.
48:11And attempt to crochet a deck chair.
48:14Can someone grab me a pina colada, please?
48:16I mean, at this point, what am I doing?
48:18Yeah.
48:18We'll be getting back to it.
48:19Yeah.
48:20Okay.
48:20Sure.
48:21We'll be getting right here.
48:22Okay.
48:33Yeah.
48:38Yeah.
48:39Hẹn gặp lại các bạn trong những video tiếp theo.
