Rachel Sennott opens up about the women in Hollywood who make her laugh, the success of 'I Love LA' and the challenge of being a multi-hyphenate in Hollywood at The Hollywood Reporter's annual Women in Entertainment gala.
00:00Yeah, we were trying to keep it, make sure we were like, it needs to be giving like festive, not Republican.
00:05So we were like, really like Christmas, not Republican.
00:09So that's the vibe.
00:10Yeah, hopefully it's giving a holiday red.
00:14It is.
00:14Love the red.
00:16And for you, you're doing the opening remarks here this morning.
00:19When you're writing opening remarks for a breakfast, where do you start?
00:23You know, the notes app, of course.
00:26I went through all the jokes that have obviously like already been taken.
00:30It was like I wrote 10 jokes that were like, do they make the men get up this early?
00:35What?
00:36So I had to, I just wrote, I went long and then cut stuff and then tweaked things.
00:43And hopefully people will like it.
00:46But we'll see.
00:47We can't wait to hear it.
00:48And for you, you are so booked and busy right now.
00:50Everyone is loving.
00:51I love LA.
00:52What is the fan response been like for you?
00:55It's so cool.
00:56Getting a weekly release because I feel like I'll see people say things or respond to certain stuff.
01:04And in my head, I'm like, but you don't even know something different is about to happen or something that maybe you're longing for is coming or whatever.
01:13So it's been really fun, I think.
01:15And like, I think watching people fall in love with the characters and the actors.
01:20Like, I think just the whole cast is such superstars.
01:25And I'm really like proud of them and excited to see everyone like falling, falling in love with them.
01:31Before a new episode came out, I went back and rewatched the meltdown scene because it was just so funny and so amazing.
01:38Who's another woman in Hollywood who's making you laugh right now?
01:41Oh, I mean, I, I feel like my friends make me laugh like Molly and IO and where we, we have like this like girls group chat that is like, I, we, it like alternates between like, like rancid gossip and then like deep heartwarming like support.
02:02And that makes me laugh and I don't know what I would do without that group chat.
02:07That's amazing.
02:08And I feel like you're inspiring so many young women who want to get into entertainment.
02:12Who's a woman who's always inspired you in Hollywood?
02:15Um, I think there's a lot of women like I specifically when I was making the show, I feel like I really looked up to like always, but like in the process of making the show, Issa Rae and Lena Dunham.
02:29Cause I just was like, damn, you guys did this job.
02:33Cause it's really crazy.
02:35It's really crazy.
02:37So I feel like I had just like a new level of respect for both of them having done this.
02:43I feel like there's been a rise in multi hyphenates in Hollywood in recent years, someone who creates a show and stars in it.
02:49But what's the hardest part about wearing that many hats?
02:51I think like for me, like, um, switching from different mindset to different mindset.
03:00Sometimes I feel like I'm like caught my brain, like sort of hiccups because I'm like, I'm trying to think about this, but that and whatever.
03:08And, and trying to be able to like switch between mindsets and stay calm and, and like pivot, I think.
03:17Yeah.
03:18That's a great answer.
03:19And for you, it's the end of the year.
03:21What are we leaving in 2025?
03:24God, I hope we're leaving smoking behind, but we'll see.
03:28I don't know.
03:29And, um, uh, let me rephrase that.
03:33I hope we're leaving behind, um, uh, sorry, seeing my queen Nikki Glaser over there.
03:40She's looking fabulous.
03:41Um, I'm hoping we're leaving behind bad coping mechanisms.
