00:01The following program documents a real homicide case.
00:05The investigation, the pursuit of justice, and the lasting impact on the loved ones left behind.
00:11I've got police and paramedics started.
00:36Hey, man. Stay with me, okay?
00:44First responders find a man shot in the head and clinging to life.
00:49Keep breathing. Keep breathing. Stay with us.
00:51But he doesn't survive.
00:57For those most affected by homicide...
00:59To lose your child, to lose your baby, it hurt me to my core.
01:04The first 48 is just the beginning.
01:07It looked like the suspects and victim had no previous interactions together.
01:12That added to the pressure on me because I knew that this was going to be a random crime.
01:17This is the story of the fight for justice.
01:20There's no fingerprint that's going to put him at the duty.
01:23Is there any identification? The answer is pure and simple, no.
01:28My client had not pulled a gun until he felt that his life was in jeopardy.
01:34In the weeks, months, and years.
01:37If the defense was able to attack that evidence, then it's like a Jenga puzzle.
01:44The whole case could topple.
01:46After the first 48.
01:58I was just at home. I just got back from church with my family.
02:02This was my first homicide. I was just actually assigned to the homicide unit.
02:07So, I was a little nervous. There was a lot of pressure on me.
02:19Hey.
02:2029-year-old Bradley Coleman grew up in Norcross, Georgia.
02:30He was a special education teacher and created his own clothing line.
02:34He leaves behind his parents, brother, and a 6-year-old daughter.
02:39We're the voice for the voiceless.
02:41So, I tackle every case with, you know, 150%
02:44because we're working to give the family the closure they deserve.
02:48Single gunshot wound to the head.
02:51Here's a show casing.
02:53Next to Bradley, the team finds a 9mm casing, a face mask, and a gun holster.
03:02This is his car.
03:04There's a phone in the car.
03:06Wallet.
03:07A holster right on top.
03:09There were two empty holsters, so the victim probably had their own gun,
03:13and it appeared that the victim's gun may have been stolen.
03:17It's definitely unusual for this type of violence to occur in broad daylight
03:20at a very crowded gas station.
03:22So, we needed to put a picture together as far as what actually took place.
03:27One hour in.
03:29I'm in this black Impala right here.
03:31A witness comes forward.
03:33Just walk me through what happened.
03:36I saw Mercedes parked.
03:39He says a black Mercedes sedan pulled up next to Bradley's car.
03:44He saw the victim putting air into his tires.
03:47He then saw the suspect get out of the Mercedes and get into the victim's vehicle.
03:52He says Bradley got into the passenger side of his car and began fighting with the suspect.
04:05Then I saw the other guy coming off a Mercedes with a gun.
04:08A second suspect ran to Bradley's car.
04:11The other guy who was putting the air, he also has a gun.
04:16How many shots did you hear?
04:17I heard the sound.
04:20Did you see what the person looked like that he was fighting with?
04:23Um, black.
04:25I was young, maybe 25, 30.
04:27Black shorts.
04:29He says the suspects fled in the Mercedes.
04:32He said they had an out of state tag with white blue coloring on it.
04:35It would have been great if he could have specifically given me a tag number.
04:38But most people just aren't thinking about that.
04:40It's a stressful situation.
04:44Right now it would appear that this is going to be an attempted carjacking armed robbery.
04:48It looked like the suspects and victim had no previous interactions together.
04:54Knowing that added a little bit to the pressure on me because I knew that this was going to be a random crime.
04:59There's a lot of cameras over here.
05:01While the team downloads the surveillance video.
05:08We're going to go to an address that's on the driver's license for the victim.
05:13You can learn a lot from the victim's family about the victim, who they might be affiliated with, friends or enemies.
05:20The officer said, I'm sorry to inform you that Bradley was involved in a shooting.
05:33He did not make it from his gunshot wound.
05:36At that moment, I think I went into shock.
05:40I just could not believe what I was hearing.
05:43The first thing came to my mind, who would want to do something like that to Bradley?
05:48Everybody loves him.
05:49Everybody loves him.
05:50Nobody disliked Bradley.
05:51My husband fell to his knees.
05:55And began to weep.
05:56To lose your child.
05:57To lose your baby.
05:58It hurt me to my core.
06:02As hard as you try not to be emotional about these cases, I think it definitely impacts you while you're investigating it.
06:17But we learned Bradley's gun was legally bought.
06:21It was his gun.
06:22He had every right to carry it.
06:25So at that point, finding the Mercedes was critical because until I could definitively identify that car, I wasn't going to be able to figure out who was in it.
06:38Eight hours in.
06:42Did you get your quick check video?
06:43Yes.
06:44Knowing that we had surveillance footage, that was huge because the victim can't speak.
06:49So hopefully the video could point us in the right direction of our suspects.
06:55There's the Mercedes.
07:02Passenger gets out.
07:04One of the suspects gets out of the backseat of the Mercedes and jumps into Bradley's car.
07:09They slide in there, they throw it in reverse, and they try and take the actual vehicle.
07:12It's called a slider theft.
07:16They stop.
07:17Another suspect got out of the front passenger seat, which meant that there was still somebody driving that Mercedes.
07:22So I knew I was looking for at least three suspects.
07:25That's where they're fighting.
07:28Tussle.
07:29Tussle.
07:30He gets shot right as he gets out of the car.
07:35Damn.
07:40The guy goes back to the car for something.
07:41And when he ran back to the Mercedes, I could actually see something fall off of his face.
07:47A blue surgical COVID mask.
07:50There you go.
07:51We can get DNA off of that.
07:53I knew it would take some time to get the DNA back, but that was a huge piece of evidence to have.
07:58You can't make out a tag or anything like that. That's the problem.
08:01And we weren't able to identify suspects because the cameras were too far away. It was too grainy.
08:08So we knew that we needed to start checking the flock cameras and just had to sift through hundreds of images until we located a black Mercedes with a light blue tag.
08:1726 hours in.
08:28Around like 11, 30, the Mercedes is sitting on flock.
08:32Less than an hour before the shooting, a Mercedes with out of state plates appears a half mile from the crime scene.
08:39It's like, he comes screaming up behind this guy.
08:43It was the only black Mercedes with an out of state license plate in that area around the time of that crime.
08:51What's the tag again?
08:53Charlie Victor.
08:55The most recent address comes back to this address.
08:59The license plate checks back to a woman in Chicago.
09:03She has at least three kids in the Winnett County area.
09:07But I didn't necessarily want to go knocking on doors and making phone calls just yet.
09:11Because if the registered owner is involved, you don't want to tip them off too early because then you might lose other evidence that could actually end up solving the case.
09:20With only six hours left in the first 48.
09:31They were able to track the vehicle on flock the night before the murder down to Atlanta to a Texaco station.
09:37Harrison gets a lead from an officer in the West Precinct.
09:43You can see on the street cams that it's in this Texaco for like 30 minutes.
09:47We were very hopeful that we were going to be able to get footage from that night prior and actually see who was in the vehicle.
09:53Then...
09:55Your vehicle's on the move.
09:57Another flock camera just picked up the Mercedes in DeKalb County, 30 miles southwest of Winnett.
10:04We were static when we heard that the Mercedes was moving.
10:08We wanted to get down there to get it stopped.
10:09We were hoping our killers are inside the car when we stop it.
10:22This is where Brad really started, playing football.
10:26I used to bring him here every day when he was playing in the reg league.
10:30Brad and his dad were really close.
10:35My son idolized my husband.
10:39He loved his mom, but his daddy was his guy.
10:43Brad was the type of kid, he was a leader on the field and off the field.
10:47He got a four year scholarship, came back, took on that road, coaching, football, basketball.
10:54When he passed away, so many people came to us and gave us so many wonderful testimonies about his character and who he was.
11:03How he showed up for them.
11:05I think about him a lot. I think about him every day.
11:09It's an honor to be Brad Father.
11:12Hopefully one day we have Bradley Coleman name out here.
11:16Yup. Yup.
11:17Yup. Yup.
11:33As the first 48 slips away.
11:36I knew that I had a lot of work ahead to figure out all three people that were using that car.
11:43While one team tracks the Mercedes that just appeared on Flock in DeKalb County.
11:49Harrison and Jorstad arrive at the gas station where the suspect's vehicle was seen the night before the murder.
11:56Let's see if we can find it real quick.
11:59Oh, here it is.
12:03Pulls up.
12:05He gets out of the passenger seat of the car.
12:08There we go.
12:12Dude, the day of the homicide, one of the suspects was wearing that sweatshirt.
12:17This is awesome.
12:19Luckily, we were able to get clear face shots of them walking around the aisles and checking out.
12:25He bought a blue COVID mask.
12:28Damn.
12:30That was huge because we knew from the video at Quick Trip, a COVID mask was dropped.
12:37Let's see what happens outside.
12:40He got out of the driver's seat.
12:42This is phenomenal.
12:44But I didn't see a third suspect get out of the car.
12:48So I knew that it was going to be difficult to identify the third suspect.
12:51And we still needed a whole lot more evidence before we were able to arrest the two from the Texaco footage.
12:56The next night in Clayton County, an hour south of Gwinnett.
13:03We got it. We got it.
13:05Patrol locates the suspect vehicle.
13:08I was excited.
13:10I was hoping that the car was going to have three suspects.
13:13The same people who were in it at the Texaco in the Quick Trip, possibly with all the evidence, the gun, Bradley's gun.
13:19Is that your car?
13:21No, it's fine.
13:22But they find a woman behind the wheel.
13:25Whose car is that?
13:26I'm not sure who's with you.
13:28She claims a man dropped the Mercedes off yesterday after her sister rented it for cash.
13:33Once I was able to verify that she had taken possession of that Mercedes after the homicide, I didn't believe that she was going to be involved in the actual homicide.
13:42There was little disappointment, but we knew now that we needed to talk to whoever rented out this vehicle and hopefully they could point us in the right direction of our suspects.
13:53The next morning, while CSI searched the Mercedes.
14:03Hey, this is Detective Harrison.
14:05I'm actually just following up on a hit and run accident.
14:08And I ran the tag and it looked like it was registered to your mom.
14:13Oh, of course.
14:17The good thing is that he actually required people to provide driver's licenses and to get rental insurance, things that you don't typically see in word of mouth type rentals.
14:27It was July 10th.
14:28The men returned the car around 2 o'clock.
14:42So based on that, I knew that they were in possession of the car within an hour or so after the homicide.
14:48All right, bye.
14:50He quickly sent me pictures of the driver's licenses.
14:54The first one is going to be a Miles Collins and the second is going to be a David Booker.
14:58This is a big turning point because we needed to try to match them to the two individuals who got out of the vehicle at the Texaco.
15:08These are the two dudes that rented the car in that Texaco footage.
15:11I think that's probably him.
15:15David Booker.
15:17I am running David Booker.
15:2120-year-old David Booker has prior convictions for theft by receiving stolen property.
15:27You can see he's got like a cross dagger tattoo between his eyes, which you can see in the footage.
15:33David Booker's on parole.
15:35And this is Miles.
15:3720-year-old Miles Collins has no prior convictions in Gwinnett County.
15:42He is the father of a seven-week-old daughter.
15:45He's already wanted in Gwinnett County.
15:48Collins has an active warrant for failure to appear on prior charges.
15:52At this point, I'm going to go ahead and get the warrants for murder on David Booker.
15:57And then the fugitive unit is going to start working to locate him.
16:08A week later...
16:10Booker is arrested. He's on his way up now.
16:14The fugitive unit found Booker at an address he gave his parole officer.
16:19I was excited when I found out that David Booker was in custody.
16:22The stakes are high on this interview.
16:23There's definitely a lot of pressure riding on getting some kind of confession from him.
16:27And getting him to identify the third suspect.
16:31Hey David, how's it going?
16:32Remember what you were doing back on July 10th?
16:41I went to a barbecue on a Saturday.
16:45Smoked, chilled with my friends.
16:48I don't know what it is.
16:49What about Friday?
16:51On Friday, I was at work.
16:53After work, he says his girlfriend drove him to a gas station in her car.
16:58Did you ever rent cars to go drive around to wherever you need to go?
17:03I don't even have a license.
17:05I can almost see David's type of resistance and denial.
17:09But also, I know the evidence that I have to dispute anything they say.
17:14Would it help if I showed you a picture?
17:17Picture of who?
17:18Picture of who?
17:22You can see your dagger tattoo.
17:25I can't really see anything and I know that's not me.
17:29This is you, man.
17:31You and your buddy.
17:33What buddy?
17:36This guy.
17:38I don't even remember seeing this guy at the gas station at all.
17:41David, come on now.
17:43I was definitely frustrated in the interview with David.
17:45He kept denying all the evidence that I put in front of him.
17:48Even his own picture that you could see it's his face.
17:51It's his face tattoos.
17:53He was still denying it.
17:56Why are you being charged with murder?
17:59Well, I definitely don't know nothing about a murder, but...
18:03Well, you do because you're on video at the group trip.
18:07Well, I don't.
18:09It's not me.
18:11It was definitely frustrating that the confession was not obtained from David.
18:16But I was hoping that once I got the phone records back for David Booker and Miles Collins,
18:20I could see who they were talking to that might point me in the direction of who that third suspect would be.
18:25Two weeks into the investigation.
18:33He is in custody.
18:35The fugitive unit finds Miles Collins in Lithonia, 18 miles south of Gwinnett, and brings him in on his outstanding warrant.
18:42Based on the surveillance footage, we felt pretty confident that Miles Collins was just the driver.
18:50And I believe that the third person that had yet to be identified was actually going to be the shooter.
18:55So we were really hopeful that Miles was going to be able to tell us who that third person that we're looking for is.
19:01I need to talk to you about what happened a couple of weeks ago over there at that Quick Trip.
19:07So talk about that Mercedes that you and David rented a couple of days before that.
19:12Okay.
19:14Miles claims that he rented the Mercedes to a friend right after he picked it up.
19:24And who was that?
19:25He didn't have any contact information for Man Man, and that Man Man brought the car back to him supposedly after the homicide.
19:39So here's my only issue with that.
19:41Here you are at a Texaco in Atlanta with the car Saturday morning at about 1.30 a.m.
19:49And David was with you.
19:51I don't remember.
19:53I remember these half the pics.
20:00This is you and David?
20:01Mm-hmm.
20:02Okay.
20:04It was huge that Miles admitted that that was him and David at the Texaco.
20:08Because David Booker had already said it wasn't him, he wasn't there.
20:13If you want to go down for a murder, then you...
20:15I'm not. I didn't do nothing wrong.
20:17You didn't shoot him.
20:18I rented the car. That's it.
20:21I'm not no killer.
20:23We'll be back in a few minutes, all right?
20:25We couldn't charge Miles Collins with the murder because he admitted to being at the Texaco.
20:31But we didn't have him at the Quick Trip homicide scene.
20:35Can you stand up for me?
20:37Miles will be held in Gwinnett County Jail on his outstanding warrant.
20:41We knew we were going to have to wait for their phones to come back and map it to our crime scene and see where that phone is in relation to when the crime occurred.
20:50Four days later...
20:51The first cell tower hit of interest is going to be on the day of the homicide.
21:04The phone records for Collins and Booker are finally in.
21:07This puts Miles Collins there in the area when the Mercedes was there.
21:12And then the next time it hits, it's hitting down here where they returned the vehicle.
21:17So there's definitely enough probable cause to charge him in the murder.
21:21And then we were able to see who David and Miles were talking to prior to the homicide and then right after the homicide.
21:29Harrison looks up the number.
21:32And it was Josiah Hewley.
21:3420-year-old Josiah Hewley has no previous convictions and is the father of a one-year-old daughter.
21:41So I'll send a search warrant application over to the district attorney's office to get his location information from his phone.
21:47He's the best suspect I have right now.
21:51Seven weeks in.
21:56We got the phone records back for Josiah Hewley.
22:00At 11.24 a.m., it hits right up the street from the Quick Trip.
22:07And then again at 12.50, like right over there basically after the homicide.
22:12Josiah's phone records put him near the crime scene around the time of the murder.
22:17They also reveal something else.
22:18Looking at the content they were posting on social media, tipped us that they may be involved in some gang activity.
22:24So it was extremely important to find Josiah because we thought he was going to be our shooter.
22:29After three weeks of searching for Josiah.
22:39The US Marshals got Josiah taken into custody right as he came out of a job interview.
22:43I really needed a confession from Josiah Hewley because I wasn't able to get one from David Booker or Miles Collins.
22:51All right Josiah, I'm Detective Harris and this is Detective Jorstad.
22:55We need to talk about what happened out there at that Quick Trip.
22:57I wasn't there.
22:58I don't know what you're talking about.
23:06Recognize that car?
23:08No.
23:10At that point, I tried to get him to stop thinking about how this was going to affect him for the rest of his life.
23:16And just think about the family of Bradley Coleman.
23:20You got a little girl, right?
23:22Mm-hmm.
23:23He had a little girl too.
23:24And she's going to grow up without a dad now because of what happened to him.
23:31I think that just kind of all hit him very hard.
23:35That kind of flipped something in Josiah.
23:37At least you're alive.
23:40That family, they will never get to talk to him, see him ever again.
23:46Think about that little girl.
23:51You could definitely see the internal struggle he was having with trying to do the right thing.
24:00I didn't mean to do it. I was panicking.
24:02The only reason why it happened was because I was in fear.
24:09I was in fear because I know he got a gun.
24:12I know he got a gun.
24:27The way it happened, it just happened so fast.
24:36Once Josiah starts to confess, our goal is just to keep him talking.
24:39So walk me through what happened.
24:48Because if he's focused on recalling the events that took place, the less likely it is to have a moment to pause and think,
24:56OK, I've said too much. Now I need to stop talking.
24:58I see his gun on the panel seat.
25:03So when I seen him get up, I tried to get out of the car.
25:07So I'm thinking he was going to go for his gun.
25:13But he jumped in the car.
25:16He started hitting me, beating me up.
25:19Where was your gun?
25:20I wasn't trying to touch that, man. I wasn't trying to do nothing like that.
25:28He pushed me out of the car.
25:32He was moving towards his gun.
25:35Like, I didn't aim in his head. I didn't do nothing like that.
25:39I didn't want to kill that man.
25:40So you're saying you shot him, but you weren't meaning to shoot him in the head?
25:53I believed everything up to his self-defense claim.
25:57But I do feel like he legitimately did have some remorse for what happened.
26:02Just turn around, please.
26:04Josiah's DNA matches what was recovered from the mask at the scene.
26:09After the interview, I was able to confidently say that Josiah Hewley shot Mr. Coleman.
26:15That David Booker was the suspect that got out of the front passenger seat.
26:20And then Miles Collins was the driver of that vehicle.
26:23All three were charged with Bradley's murder.
26:26Josiah's interview was kind of the nail in the coffin.
26:28It felt great to successfully close my first homicide case.
26:35And it felt really good for me to be able to deliver that result for the family of Bradley Coleman.
26:40We were thankful.
26:42Now we were waiting to have our day in court.
26:47When we first heard about this case that took us all aback because it was so tragic
26:52to think that someone could be doing something as harmless as putting air in their tires and they end up killed is unconscionable.
27:02My initial assessment was what in the world am I going to do?
27:07What kind of defense can I raise?
27:10My client admitted to shooting Mr. Coleman, but Josiah had not pulled a gun until he felt that his life was in jeopardy.
27:19So I tried to argue for voluntary manslaughter.
27:24Anytime you got three defendants, it's challenging to persuade the jury that everybody is just as guilty as the shooter.
27:35Jurors want to know why did it happen?
27:38The evidence indicated they are gang members who have dedicated their lives to this kind of lifestyle.
27:46They were trying to steal a car to further their status in the gang.
27:50They came to steal but they were prepared to kill and that's what happened.
27:53More than a year after Bradley's shooting death, the trial of David Booker, Myles Collins and Josiah Hewley begins.
28:05Stay ready.
28:07Defense ready.
28:09Defense ready.
28:10The night before, I prayed because I knew that I would have to look at these three guys that had murdered my son.
28:18There was no fear, but there was anxiety.
28:21It was very difficult.
28:23Very, very difficult.
28:25As the state's first witness, Bradley's mother takes the stand.
28:30Ms. Coleman's testimony was so important because you want to put a human face on this trial.
28:37He was an educator and he educated children that transitioned out of the jail system back into society.
28:45Bradley was so much to so many people.
28:47If they had known Bradley, he would have tried to motivate them, encourage them to do good, to get a job.
28:54He would have been that type of big brother to them.
28:57That's just who he was.
28:58Day three of the trial, the state calls Myles Collins' girlfriend.
29:08Right after David Booker had been arrested, he ended up doing a search warrant at Myles' girlfriend's house.
29:13I interviewed her mother and she indicated that her daughter got very upset after talking to Myles because Myles told her that his friend did a felony murder and they're all going to be away for a long time.
29:28And that was a pivotal moment in the trial.
29:31How was she going to testify?
29:33She is the mother of the child of Myles Collins.
29:35Is she going to be cooperative?
29:38Is she going to answer?
29:39How is she going to be?
29:41I'm going to talk about the statements that your mother said that you made.
29:46Okay.
29:47Understand?
29:48Yes.
29:49In particular, the statement you made was, Myles was never going to see his baby again.
29:53Do you recall saying that to your mother?
29:54No, I don't.
29:56Okay.
29:57Okay.
29:58The next statement was, our friend did a felony murder.
30:04Objection, Your Honor.
30:06I jumped up because I couldn't believe my ears.
30:10You can't let the state speak evidence and plant a seed in the juror's mind.
30:17Objection, Your Honor.
30:18I have a motion.
30:20Juror's going to step out.
30:22It was very confusing.
30:23Things were looking kind of crazy.
30:24I am making a motion for a mistrial.
30:28It wasn't looking good.
30:29It didn't feel good.
30:31It didn't look good.
30:32I'm like, Lord have mercy.
30:43That was a comment by the prosecutor that's now put a statement in one of these young men's mouth that one of their friends committed a felony murder.
30:51So I would ask for a mistrial.
30:54The state in front of the jury basically made the statement, Myles said his friend committed a felony murder, as if it was a fact, but we don't know that that's true.
31:07The judge can say, disregard that, but that's going to be impossible for a jury to forget.
31:13I'll be back.
31:14The judge took a very long break.
31:18It was very tense in the courtroom.
31:21We didn't really know which way the judge would go.
31:25I can't unring the bell.
31:27The state's comment was so improper and prejudicial that I'm going to have to grant a mistrial for all three defendants.
31:35At that point, we didn't know what was going to happen.
31:45It sent shockwaves through the court.
31:48A lot of hushed voices, disappointment.
31:52What can we do now?
31:53A mistrial, if it's based on prosecutorial misconduct, then the defendant has the protection of double jeopardy.
32:00You cannot retry them.
32:02But if it's done unintentionally, then that just means that the jury's sent home and we start over again.
32:10And that's what happened in this case.
32:11Heading into the retrial, prosecutors Williams and Melvin worked to sharpen their approach.
32:25I was thankful for the first trial because I saw some hiccups in the presentation of the evidence.
32:31So in the retrial, I don't want to come stumbling out of the gate.
32:35No slip-ups, no hiccups.
32:38It had to go smoothly.
32:41Two and a half years after Bradley was killed, the retrial begins.
32:51What the evidence is going to show you is that Josiah Healy was the shooter.
32:56That David Booker provided armed support that Miles Collins drove into the QT and away from the QT.
33:02There's no DNA evidence, ultimately, that's going to identify David Booker as being present at the scene of the QT.
33:08There will be nothing to show that Miles Collins was at that scene.
33:14Josiah Healy was the easiest one to prove, by far.
33:18We had his DNA. We had his confession.
33:20The interview evidence was invaluable because he actually admitted it in his interview.
33:31He had said what I had wanted the jury to hear, that, yeah, I shot him.
33:36But defense attorney Drake presents a different take on Josiah's confession.
33:40When he pushed me out of the car, we fell.
33:44He tried to grab his gun, like, like, I knew he was reachable, like, so I'm like, okay, he's grabbing the gun.
33:51He's trying to shoot me.
33:52And then, and that happened.
33:56What Josiah was saying is that it was either him or me.
33:59That was the only thing I thought, it was either him or me.
34:02And that's when he pulled his gun.
34:04But he's saying everything just happened so quickly, which I thought would support voluntary manslaughter.
34:11Because it happened just like that.
34:13What Josiah said was a boatload of BS.
34:18How can you claim self-defense when you're coming to steal another man's property?
34:23That was crazy.
34:25It was really crazy.
34:32I felt confident with Josiah Healy, but I could definitely see it have going a different way for David Booker and Miles Collins,
34:40just because there wasn't as much evidence.
34:44That's why the cell phone evidence was crucial in the case, because that is hard evidence.
34:52This is David Booker's phone information, his digital DNA.
34:57This cell data shows where he was during this crime.
35:01Look, he's right here, right at the quick trip at the time of the murder.
35:07And then we've got following the murder, him leaving and going back to where the Mercedes is ultimately dropped off.
35:18That cell phone evidence was absolutely compelling.
35:22It was the linchpin of the case.
35:24But for Miles Collins, his cell data was the most limited of the three.
35:30We don't have the same kind of information with him.
35:33So Miles' attorney cross-examined cell data expert, John Wilbanks.
35:39In fact, there is no phone record from Mr. Collins' phone ever in an area.
35:46How much is the quick trip, is there?
35:48I had no data showing you.
35:50Do you think I have anything else? Thank you very much, sir.
35:52To prove Collins' involvement, the state needs to show why Miles would have been at the scene.
36:01Establishing the gang connectivity was vital.
36:06The gang evidence provides that motive.
36:09The risk, if the defense was able to attack that gang evidence, discredit it, say it doesn't apply, then all of a sudden, it's like a Jenga puzzle.
36:22The whole case could topple.
36:23Okay, state ready.
36:38Here we are, Your Honor.
36:40Let's pick up Stacey's End of 103.
36:42And we're just trying to show they were connected together through that gang.
36:47What's significant about this post?
36:49This was located after a search warrant for Mr. Booker's Instagram account.
36:54And looking on some of the social media posts, we're able to make that connection.
36:59And what's significant about this is it says 93 gangsters with a red broken heart.
37:04So, right there, big flag, we're dealing with 93 gangsters.
37:09On this one, the hand sign that Mr. Booker is demonstrating right there, you'll notice that he's doing it in the 93 gangster hand sign.
37:17What we saw was that David Booker's Miles Collins were each representing 93 bloods.
37:23And the slider crimes is something that the 93 bloods do.
37:27In fact, Collins had pleaded guilty to slider crimes before in Rockdale County back in 2023.
37:35Based on your investigation, were warrants obtained from Miles Collins for the theft of that 40 score?
37:42Yes.
37:43And that was at a QT gas station?
37:44Yes.
37:46The jury heard that Mr. Miles Collins had two prior slider crimes at QT gas stations.
37:53This last one is the chilling video of Mr. Booker flashing his Glock 9, but you'll also notice he's wearing the exact same sweatshirt that he was wearing when they murdered Mr. Coleman.
38:05Mr. Coleman.
38:06Be honored this time to save us.
38:08After seven hours of deliberations.
38:21Ladies and gentlemen, the jury has informed me that they have reached a verdict.
38:29My heart dropped.
38:31I got so nervous.
38:33I was thinking about my son.
38:36State of Georgia versus David Jared Booker and count one, felony murder.
38:44We, the jury, find the defendant guilty.
38:47When the judge read that verdict, it was just a sign of relief.
38:53It's finally over with now.
38:54But then with Mr. Collins, I wasn't 100% confident.
39:00Count one, felony murder.
39:02We, the jury, find the defendant guilty.
39:07It's very surreal in that moment.
39:11Mr. Hughley, would you please stand?
39:15This is a young kid, and his whole life is on the line at this point.
39:20Count one, felony murder.
39:23We, the jury, find the defendant guilty.
39:27And then the verdict for the gang charges was guilty on all counts for all defendants.
39:39Before the sentencing.
39:40Your Honor, a parent should never, ever have to bury their child.
39:52We do not want another parent, child, sister to suffer at the hands of these three individuals.
39:59The fates of all three are now in the hands of the judge.
40:04Mr. Hughley, count one, felony murder.
40:08I sentence you to life without the possibility of parole.
40:13Each of the defendants got life without possibility of parole.
40:17But then, after the judge sentences Miles Collins.
40:21Oh God.
40:23After he murdered our son, he turned around and said to my family, I hope you're happy.
40:29And that almost set off a riot in the courtroom.
40:30Family! Family!
40:36It brought a lot of rage to the family.
40:39Because the guilty verdict meant everything to us.
40:43All three got exactly what they deserved.
40:46So a life for a life, that's the way I look at it.
40:48This is a life that was cut short.
41:04But thank God that he had already started building his legacy.
41:09And he won't be forgotten.
41:19Will you pass me the hangers?
41:22It's been three years and 23 days today that Bradley has been gone.
41:28And we miss him so much.
41:29We loved him so much.
41:31We loved him so much.
41:33We're getting ready for a photo shoot and we wanted to roll out the legacy collection,
41:37which is the collection that we created after Brad's passing.
41:40That's one of the things that's helping us to be able to go on, is continuing his legacy.
41:45He created this brand so that he can be able to provide for his daughter and also help with his student athletes.
41:52He would use the proceeds from posture.
41:54This was his pride and joy.
41:56It was his baby.
41:58Let's get the clothes out over here.
42:01Bradley did so much in his 29 years than most people do in a lifetime.
42:05He was so kind and so loving.
42:11You got everybody?
42:15You got everybody in there?
42:17He's still speaking to us.
42:18His presence is forever with us.
42:21Leading us, guiding us, directing us.
