00:00Crime is down in Tunapuna, according to chairman of the Tunapuna-Piako Regional Cooperation, Josiah Austin.
00:08There's a downward trend with respect to crime and criminal activity, especially in Tunapuna where our cooperation is based.
00:15We've had at least one or two incidents recently in and around our market and because of our camera systems there,
00:22we were able to detect what was taking place and we are putting a stamp on crime.
00:29Austin was speaking at the commissioning of the corporation's new police post,
00:34which has a charge room, a prisoner cell and a fully equipped surveillance room connected to over 400 cameras across the region.
00:44And I've seen in my area in particular, Makoya Trinity, where I'm the consular for,
00:48I've seen where it has worked and particularly now in the wider region,
00:54we're now joining forces with the TTPS in this programme.
00:58We're now monitoring in excess of 400 spaces, inclusive of our assets, our markets, our cemetery, our food village
01:06and other parts of the corporation, our stockpile, our cremation site and so forth.
01:10I'm very happy to see this come to full fruition.
01:14We've started in small numbers.
01:15We've added at least one or two screens and now we have at least eight screens and we have room for more.
01:22So we'll continue to monitor the region.
01:25Also, we've added the public health aspect of it where we'll be monitoring dumpsides.
01:29The Tunapuna-Piaco Regional Corporation is also the beneficiary of seven new police vehicles,
01:35as well as a complement of 17 additional municipal officers.
01:39Assets, the chairman notes, will order well for what is the most densely populated region in the country.
01:47Now that we have an increase in officers, an increase in our vehicular fleet, we can now move out a little further.
01:53I mean, obviously, first and foremost, we must protect what is under our control.
01:58We have our markets, our cemetery, our transport yard, our food villages and so forth.
02:04And now we can venture into Blanche shares and venture into Aripu and the other species.
02:09So that is what we aim to do.
02:11And now, as you see, the TTPS is on board with us, Northern Division and the other divisions.
02:16We want to bring that collaboration, particularly that collaboration, that healthy collaboration between ourselves, to more fruition.
02:27So you'd see more patrols, joint patrols and that sort of thing.
02:31The chairman is pledging a safer, more secure Tunapuna this Christmas and upcoming carnival season.
