00:00After two years without the Princess Town fire station to rely on,
00:05communities like Marak Maruga, Barakpur, Tableland, Tabakit and Princess Town can expect relief soon.
00:13As the Minister of Homeland Security, Roger Alexander, says,
00:16a nearby temporary location along King Street, Princess Town,
00:21is currently undergoing renovations and is expected to open in one week's time.
00:27We hope to be ready by next week, Wednesday, Thursday.
00:30It didn't cost too much because there was already an existing building there.
00:34So there was no major work to be done, this little ceiling, little pipe, this and that.
00:39But nothing major was to be done.
00:41We just reconstructed the area there to facilitate the restroom and all of that.
00:48So there's no major cost at that, certainly.
00:51In July of 2024, the original fire station located mere minutes away from this site
00:57was closed due to structural issues and a rat infestation, leaving dozens of communities vulnerable.
01:05I think that Princess Town has been calling for for the longest while and we just wanted to deliver.
01:09It's a promise made by this government to deliver a fire tender and facilities in the Princess Town area.
01:20He says the station will be at full strength and will open with one of the new fire tenders recently
01:27acquired by the government.
01:29Minister Alexander says while construction of a modern facility is in the pipeline for the old site,
01:35a temporary location in the heart of Princess Town was necessary in the interim.
01:40The MP for Princess Town, Dr. Aina Ali, says the community is happy.
01:46I expect that everyone is very elated, very happy that something is finally being done.
01:52They could actually see a fire station again.
01:56Less panic and less worry in the event of any emergencies.
