00:00It seems like political mischief has found its way into our trusted media. Let me be clear.
00:08The weapons are under the management and control of the municipal police service,
00:13not the office of the mayor. The matter came to light during an official audit,
00:19which is a part of an ensuing accountability within the system. I welcome the process and I
00:27am fully cooperating with the authorities as the investigation continues.
00:32San Fernando Mayor Robert Parris says while he understands the cause for concern given the
00:38serious nature of the overall situation, he urged the public to not rush to conclusions
00:44until all the facts are determined. I will admit that there is a sub-police
00:52station within the confines of the municipal, within the municipal corporation compound,
00:58and it is nowhere close to the office of the mayor. So I believe this to be totally erroneous
01:09and political, and I have alerted my lawyers who will be serving pre-action protocol.
01:18That article and the headlines are totally damaging.
01:23On Thursday, the Guardian newspaper's online site issued an editor's note at the end of an updated
01:29article saying they inaccurately reported guns missing from the mayor's office to say it was found missing
01:37from the police post on the San Fernando City Corporation's compound, which also houses the
01:44office of the mayor. However, Mayor Parris says the damage is already done and he will be moving forward
01:51with legal action. He also condemned public comments made by a sitting UNC alderman within the San Fernando
01:59City Corporation saying she too will be served a legal letter for defamation against his character.
02:07A Facebook post by the leader of the opposition and council business, Ms. Viliana Ramutha Singh,
02:16who continues to show her irrational thinking in terms of conducting her public affairs.
02:25You don't get to lie on people or to make statements. You've been to that office a million
02:32times. She knows very well that the mayor's office doesn't have any safe or any hole or anything like
02:39that. Asked for his thoughts on the audit revealing more weapons missing, not just those at the San Fernando
02:46Municipal Police Station where Corporal Onuska Eversley was murdered. The mayor had this to say.
02:52Yes, I will not make any statements on an ongoing active investigation. Let the chips fall where they may.
03:02Whomever is responsible for this, I hope in the swiftest time they are bought before.
03:12I hope that justice serves its purpose and that this matter comes to an end.
