00:01Living in the basement, it's been really hard.
00:03Getting it finally finished and looking amazing is going to be superb.
00:10My dad would probably flip his lid if he saw this.
00:13He's very much a perfectionist.
00:15Don't turn too early.
00:21Oh, it's looking amazing, isn't it?
00:26Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that something like this would be a reality.
00:35It looks so different now, doesn't it?
00:37I mean, it's definitely become way more than we had planned, right?
00:43Well, it's almost like you don't need the rest of the house now.
00:50We've only got a week until the kitchen is arriving.
00:55So all of this needs to be done before then.
00:58Walls and ceilings are really important, actually.
01:01Underrated sometimes.
01:04You did a good boy.
01:05Yes.
01:06What keeps us going in between the highs and lows of the whole renovation project
01:12is when we can get together and do things as a family.
01:15Oh, they're bringing it out.
01:16I'm getting nervous now.
01:20I think it's a crazy idea.
01:23That's the end.
01:24Who's idea was it's about 100 feet of lights?
01:27It's a disaster.
01:29With some guests coming in a few weeks,
01:31it's going to be really nice to have the Sun Terrace finished.
01:33Oh, my gosh.
01:35Finally.
01:36Yeah.
01:47The clock is ticking on the Costa del Sol for Jasmine and John's renovation.
01:52There's just a few weeks to go to get everything finished,
01:55in time for a special gathering that's been organised for close family and friends.
02:01We wanted to do a nice little housewarming party,
02:04to invite everyone back to see how things have progressed.
02:08But everything's delayed.
02:15We're still hoping to have everything done by then.
02:19It will be challenging.
02:22But with the invites already out and flights booked,
02:25a last minute cancellation is not an option.
02:28And while the entertainment room in the basement is now fully operational,
02:32a lot of the family's home is still a building site.
02:36I knew when we took on this project that we would have to be living here
02:39whilst the renovation was going on.
02:41But I think what I didn't anticipate was that it would be so dirty.
02:51So noisy.
02:54So overwhelming.
02:58So many people in the house.
02:59And so many different demands on my headspace.
03:08I think we're kind of at the pinnacle at the moment of the most stressful time.
03:15And hopefully we get over this peak and then it starts getting easier
03:20and it starts getting more finished and you start to see more progress.
03:23So that's what I'm hoping.
03:26Right now, one of the biggest challenges for Jasmine
03:29is that John is away from home, filming in Wales, in an extreme location.
03:34I'm currently working on Mount Snowdon, which is, it seems like,
03:39and is a long way from Jasmine kids in the south of Spain.
03:42It feels weird.
03:43I'm into about ten days of being away from them
03:46and there's a lot going on in the house.
03:49And I feel sadly helpless.
03:51There's certain bits that I thought I would be doing,
03:54certain bits that I would be finishing.
03:56But we're really up against it time-wise, so jazz is having to crack on.
04:00But needs must.
04:02I have to work.
04:03I'm looking forward to getting home and grafting and putting in a stint of
04:07trying to finish the house.
04:09Even in summer, temperatures can be close to freezing on the peak of Mount Snowdon.
04:16While in Spain, Jasmine's team of builders are labouring in 40 degree heat.
04:25I bought a watermelon yesterday.
04:26Me and the kids ate about a quarter of it.
04:28I've got so much left and I thought,
04:29I need to give some to the guys.
04:32It's so hot today.
04:34I thought a nice cold watermelon out of the fridge would be refreshing.
04:38Oh, absolutely beautiful.
04:41Look at you, absolutely sweating.
04:43I think here because of the heat and the temperature, you know,
04:48you wouldn't really be wanting a cup of tea and a biscuit.
04:52Take some of that and then take some of this.
04:55Something really cold and refreshing like watermelon straight out of the fridge
05:02is much more appealing.
05:13At the moment, the renovation team's main focus inside the house is the kitchen,
05:17where the laying of the marble floor tiles has just been finished.
05:22Otherwise, the kitchen is little more than an empty shell.
05:25That kitchen, just no walls, no ceiling.
05:31It is depressing to look at, but once the plasterboard goes up,
05:37then you can start to really visualise how it's going to come together when it's finished.
05:44Walls and ceilings are really important, actually, underrated sometimes.
05:52Plasterboarding will give the kitchen a basic shape,
05:55but there's a long way to go before it's ready for Jasmine's new units to be installed.
05:59The kitchen is going to be delivered in a week's time.
06:07All of the electrics need to be finished, the plumbing, the plastering, the painting.
06:16I don't know how they're going to do it all in a week.
06:24Apart from hitting the kitchen deadline,
06:26Jasmine's also on a mission to give the Sun Terrace a complete makeover.
06:31Originally, the idea was to install solar panels up here,
06:35but that would involve big structural changes with a hefty cost attached.
06:40So the plan is on hold for the foreseeable future.
06:43Instead, the terrace has been serving as a utility area.
06:47I was happy for the Sun Terrace upstairs to be somewhere for laundry,
06:53because most of the time it'll be too hot to sit up there in the sun.
06:56But John was adamant that he really wanted it to be like a lovely, entertaining area.
07:02So the idea up here is to create a really chilled Ibiza kind of vibe,
07:11with lots of greenery, some nice lighting, lots of natural textures.
07:18I got a roll of wicker fence panels to attach to the wall, just to give it a bit more natural texture.
07:27And I think it will be quite a nice backdrop because it is going to be so bright up there.
07:32I think the dark colour will actually just be a little bit less intense on your eyes.
07:38The garden isn't ready. It's still a building site.
07:42So I've got some slight concerns about having a nice usable space for the housewarming party.
07:49So getting the rooftop terrace up to speed and transforming it into somewhere that we can enjoy
07:57being outside and entertaining guests is really important.
08:02It's not simply a case of getting the Sun Terrace ready in time, there's also the matter of budget.
08:08I bought a load of furniture from a friend when we first bought this house.
08:14And one of the things that was in the bundle was a dining table, eight chairs and three sun loungers,
08:24all for outside use. I'm going to have sun loungers over there on that side, obviously minus the washing.
08:31You know, if we're actually lounging up here, I won't have all everyone's smalls hanging up.
08:38And then this is a great big area and it could easily fit this big table that we've got.
08:44So the only downside is the table has got a glass top.
08:49So I've asked the guys to see if they think they could get that glass top up here,
08:56either up the stairs, which I'm not sure it's a very big piece of glass,
09:00or up the outside of the building. So we're going to see if we can do that.
09:05Fingers crossed it will work because then I won't have to buy any new furniture for up here.
09:13To help come up with the plan, Jasmine is bringing in head builder Dominic.
09:18We've been looking at various solutions, trying to get it up inside the house.
09:23I don't think it will go up the stairs because of the size of it.
09:27And that would be fine because we can very easily take it up the outside of the building.
09:33If only the table top itself wasn't glass.
09:39Because it's extremely heavy.
09:41Do you think it's possible if we pack it with something?
09:45I think it's possible, but risky. I'll tell you why, because the hardest bit is...
09:49Getting over?
09:49Over the very lip at the top.
09:51One little dink on there.
09:52Yeah, and it will explode.
09:53I think it's easy just to pass it and hope someone grabs it.
09:56Because that's the problem, you're reaching like this, and it's quite heavy.
10:00Two guys can actually stand closer to the edge,
10:03and you've got a hell of a lot more chance than taking it up through.
10:05OK.
10:06Have a road as well.
10:08Just in case it's secure.
10:09We have a ladder as well.
10:10I don't really have a solution for the table top yet.
10:14We'll do it, don't worry.
10:35Outside the house, Jasmine and her team have been brainstorming,
10:39and now the lifting of the second-hand table to the Sun Terrace can get underway.
10:44The plan that's been devised is to attempt hoisting up the glass top using a rope and pulley system.
10:51So first, one of the builders, Liam, wants to try it out using a wooden pallet as a stand-in.
10:59Yeah, just keep pulling it up, safer that way.
11:00So the guys are just having a little test to see if it's going to be possible.
11:06The tricky part is going to be getting it over those roof tiles which we've got going up the house.
11:15We're trying to figure it out.
11:16This is me trying to be eco-friendly, reusing, recycling stuff that I've already got,
11:21not spending money on new furniture, getting it in place.
11:24But if it's going to take five guys half a day to get it done, then it's not worth it.
11:28The worry is, unlike the pallet, the sheet of glass is heavy, weighing in at nearly 40 kilograms.
11:37Hold on tight, boys.
11:38When you are pulling down on this rope, straight down like that, the pressure's not so bad.
11:44Yeah.
11:45But the trouble is, the ledges on the roof, if the glass hits that, it's just going to shatter.
11:50So we need a second rope to pull it outwards.
11:53Outwards.
11:54And then that's got more pressure, which can cause it to pop out.
11:58You've got your swimming pool.
12:00Underneath.
12:01Yeah.
12:01I don't want the swimming pool full of glass.
12:05As the team sorts out the extra rope, Dominic directs the lifting of the table frame,
12:10which is being done by hand.
12:13Parts it corner to corner.
12:14Right there, like it is.
12:15Yeah.
12:16Because that's the longest reach.
12:17Up you're going.
12:18You've got all the tents.
12:20There's a piece of gate, mate.
12:21Don't be careful at all.
12:22Don't watch.
12:23That's a lot lighter than a piece of glass there.
12:25The frame up to the roof terrace was easy.
12:29The guys just sort of handed it to each other from one balcony to the next until it reached the top.
12:33The glass table top was obviously a completely different scenario.
12:39With the pulley system in place and a second rope to hand, Dominic wants to reassess the situation himself.
12:48Dominic, I'm not sure.
12:49They'll grab it.
12:50What you've got to watch out for, Ryan?
12:53Watch that wall.
12:54That's the dodgy pit.
12:56We don't think we can do it.
12:57We won't.
12:57OK, yeah, because also the neighbours, I don't want them to get their garden shattered in glass.
13:02Dominic felt quite confident that we could get it up there safely and he really wanted to give it a go.
13:07Oh, they're bringing it out.
13:11Come on in, mate.
13:13Just bring it out.
13:14It's heavy.
13:14It's heavy, V does.
13:15Dominic, I...
13:18It's gonna...
13:19Just don't worry about it.
13:21It's all right.
13:21I think it's a crazy idea.
13:23Hold on, let me.
13:25Don't worry about it.
13:27It's too risky.
13:29What I like about Dominic is he doesn't let anything beat him.
13:33He's very can-do and I could see he didn't want to let that glass table top beat him.
13:41He's determined, isn't he?
13:43I'm very good at physics, but this one's pretty heavy.
13:46No, but I don't want it to end up in there, everywhere in the pool, do you know what I mean?
13:50I'm gonna go down and tell him.
13:52Because to reach that high, you've got to be holding just the bottom foot,
13:56and that means you've got no control over it.
13:59We'll come up with prototype number two, don't worry.
14:01Do it now, we have to do it now.
14:02No, no, we'll get some suckers.
14:03No, no, no, no.
14:04I'll get Steve's sucker on it.
14:05You can put it in the skit.
14:07OK.
14:08I think we're gonna abort.
14:09As much as I wanted to recycle and reuse that table, when we got the glass table top in place,
14:18I think we all realised that it was far too risky and that we'd have to find another solution.
14:27What I'm thinking is that we could maybe just get some wood and create a table top of our own up there.
14:35So we can make a nice, easy table out of that. We'll get some UPVC decking.
14:39Got the frame, just cut it like that, trim it and put it on top.
14:42It don't matter, I'm happy. That frame has gone up there. I'll have a look at it.
14:47Yeah, don't worry about it. Just leave it like that.
14:49There's a lot of excitement, but nothing happened.
14:55As well as project managing the renovation, Jasmine is also now single-handedly looking after daughter Joy
15:02and son Albion at home full-time.
15:06We have really tried to minimise the amount of disruption for the kids,
15:11which is difficult when you're living on a building site.
15:14And now they've broken up from school and they're at home much more of the time,
15:17it's even more difficult because they want to play outside, they want to go for a swim,
15:22or they want to have their friends over, and all of that is not really possible
15:26because there's just work going on everywhere at the moment.
15:30I mean, at the end of the day, they are very lucky kids.
15:34You know, they've got a lovely life and at the end of this process,
15:39they'll have a beautiful home and it will all be worth it.
15:41But it's tough, actually, for kids to deal with this sort of thing day in, day out.
15:48It's tough for adults as well.
15:49With John still away filming in Wales, and so much going on in the house,
15:56Jasmine's decided it's time she and the children had a short break.
16:00Hey, guys. Who wants a pan au chocolat? Me, me.
16:07Nice holiday treat.
16:09Want to come sit up at the table?
16:11The kids and myself are in a lovely little holiday apartment
16:17on a resort just down the coast a little way.
16:20I just needed to get out of the house.
16:22It was getting too much, the noise, the dirt, the constant decisions.
16:28I don't think I realised how much it was getting to me
16:31until I actually arrived here.
16:33It's nice and quiet here, isn't it, compared to at home.
16:36And then way less dusty.
16:39Way less dusty.
16:40Oh, it's been so nice to be able to chill out, have fun with the kids.
16:47Come on out, wee.
16:49Want a noodle or a ring?
16:54It's cake.
16:58When we first arrived, I looked out of the window
17:01and I saw a pool right outside.
17:02I said, kids, come and look.
17:04And we looked it and then we just rushed to get our swimming things on
17:08and we all piled out and had a lovely swim.
17:10Ready?
17:11Mm-hmm.
17:12Let's go with these in the pool and see if we can jump into the hoops.
17:15That's it.
17:18I'm going to jump into the swimming.
17:20Three, two, one.
17:22It's so nice.
17:29It's so relaxing.
17:32I just feel like instead of being at this level of intensity,
17:38I've just been able to come down to a normal, even keel
17:42where I feel like I can cope again.
17:45Down on the Costa del Sol, while Jasmine and the children are away,
18:02the renovation team are working hard in the kitchen to meet their deadline.
18:06One of the jobs on the list is preparing the marble floor tiles for polishing.
18:14Called grinding, this process removes blemishes for a smooth, shiny finish.
18:20And it's a dirty job, so Dominic was keen to get it out of the way first.
18:24The plan for today was the marble guy is everybody's got to get out and let him do his thing.
18:31But it's all gone a bit peaked on.
18:33The grinder for the floor marble can't come.
18:36He's someone's ill.
18:38So now we've got to basically shuffle it all around.
18:41Although it's not ideal, with so much to do in a short space of time,
18:46Dominic's cracking on with the next task.
18:49I'm boarding this wall up here in the kitchen rather than lose the day.
18:54I just stabbed my finger.
18:59And the guys are filling, sanding.
19:01It's getting there, so loads of little jobs.
19:04Do you want to do a bit of this ceiling, fella?
19:06That's how good are you at balancing boards?
19:08Not great.
19:09You can still adjust it later.
19:11Here we go.
19:12From the hotel she's staying in, Jasmine is keeping up to date on the latest developments.
19:27Today, they're plasterboarding the kitchen, so that is ready for the plasterers to come in.
19:33The plaster needs a few days to dry before we can paint it.
19:37We've only got a week until the kitchen is arriving.
19:43So all of this needs to be done before then.
19:48Her priority is reworking the schedule, starting with rebooking Juan, the marble polisher.
19:54Because we have other works tomorrow, and it's better if you can come on Monday and Monday.
20:10There are a lot of processes that are all dependent on one another.
20:14So I can actually have the head space to do the work that I need to do to get this project
20:21across the line, just by not being there and doing it remotely.
20:25The problem is the kitchen is being delivered on Wednesday, unless he wants to come on the weekend.
20:36I was actually amazed at how productive I was able to be without people asking me different
20:43things every five seconds, and I was able to focus a lot better.
20:47My to-do list was going down instead of up.
20:55It's now nearing the end of the family's mini break.
20:59So before heading home, they're exploring the nearby seaside town of Cala de Mijas.
21:07Hey, look at that little. Hola.
21:09La Cala de Mijas is a really buzzing place.
21:14It's a very popular holiday resort and somewhere that lots of people really enjoy.
21:21There's loads going on. There's beautiful beach.
21:24You can go and just enjoy feeling like you're on holiday.
21:28Chocolate.
21:29Oh, joy, that looks good.
21:30Yummy.
21:31Mmm.
21:36This looks yummy.
21:37Because the weather is so warm here, we quite often get an ice cream.
21:43When I think back to my childhood, an ice cream was for only special occasions,
21:48very rarely when the ice cream van came around.
21:51Um, but living here, I think we've been having quite a few ice creams, but, you know,
21:56it'd be rude not to, wouldn't it?
21:58How's yours, kids?
22:02Yummy.
22:03I think, if I remember rightly from my last visits here, it was built in around the 1500s.
22:10And it used to be a pirate watchtower.
22:13And there's this funny story about one night, a pirate who tried to come, um, ashore.
22:19And instead of shooting him with bows and arrows, they threw like hard loaves of bread at him.
22:26And he ran away.
22:27I can never quite switch off entirely from what's going on back at home because my phone never stops
22:33ringing, pinging and problems and decisions and this, that and the other.
22:39But it is nice to just pretend for a minute that we're on holiday and have a nice little relaxing afternoon.
22:47Do you like it here?
22:49It is very pretty.
22:50It's lovely, isn't it?
22:52I can't believe it's so warm, isn't it?
22:54The ice cream's melting so fast.
22:56I think the break was really needed by everyone.
23:00Probably even the builders, they just could crack on with anything they needed to do.
23:07So, yes, for the kids to have fun and be somewhere where they can just relax on their summer holidays.
23:16For me, where I can be less stressed, I think it was as much for them as it was for me.
23:23After her time away off-site, Jasmine is rejoining the build in person.
23:34First, she's checking in with the team working on the kitchen, where plastering has begun.
23:39The ceiling and one wall are already nearly completed.
23:43Oh, that's looking good, guys.
23:47God, it's amazing the transformation it makes, isn't it?
23:51So, what is the plan?
23:53And when we're finished, we're going to pop the rest of that wall up there and flatten that
23:59as much as we can ready for tomorrow, and then tomorrow will come that ceiling, that wall, that wall,
24:03and then bits over there.
24:04Those bits over there?
24:06Yeah.
24:07There are now only three working days left before the new kitchen units arrive.
24:12So, to prevent damaging or spoiling them, any job involving plaster, paint, or other chemicals
24:18must be finished. That includes prepping the marble floor.
24:21So, I'm thinking if the, um, floor polisher guy wants to come, would he be able to start
24:27in one area that's not in your way?
24:29I'm not joking. He'd be wasted his time.
24:31Yeah.
24:32As soon as there's a poor plaster, it's going to go in the air and it's going to be all open for him.
24:36Tom said maybe get him through it at the weekend on Saturday.
24:38Let's try and figure something out.
24:40I can't delay the kitchen because otherwise I won't get the worktop because they all shut down for the summer.
24:49The kitchen delivery deadline has become all the more important because of another
24:53complication that's arisen.
24:55It's vital that the kitchen is ready on schedule because we have got the worktop company coming
25:06on the very last day before they close down for the summer.
25:11So, if it's not done on that day, we will have to wait until after the summer to get our kitchen worktop.
25:19With a kitchen installation deadline they can't afford to miss, they can't slow down.
25:25But they need to come up with a solution for getting the kitchen tiles polished too.
25:29The kitchen has to come when it's coming. There's no backup plan for that.
25:34Otherwise, we completely miss the window of getting the worktop in.
25:38Yeah.
25:39He said he can come at the weekend.
25:40Oh, happy days then.
25:42But because the marble polisher can work at the weekend while they are off-site,
25:47Dominic is having a rethink.
25:50If he comes and does this side and concentrates on this side, then when we come in Monday,
25:55we're going to be painting, cutting the electric sockets and things like that.
26:01And hopefully he's finished this area and he's over there because it's quite a messy process.
26:05That's the problem. There is mess everywhere.
26:07Having the plasterers here at the same time as the floor polisher, it's not ideal really,
26:15because they need to be able to have the space available to do their work.
26:20But we're trying to coordinate everything so that they can do one area at a time and then they can swap.
26:28So in that respect, you know, we're finding solutions so that everyone can get their jobs done.
26:37Moving on, next on Jasmine's to-do list is the sun terrace and the dining table.
26:43We decided that we would try and make an alternative tabletop for up here.
26:48To save having to buy a whole new set because all these chairs and the loungers and everything all go together.
26:53So this nice wooden table was able to come up in pieces and be assembled up here.
26:58And it's just a really nice natural wood.
27:01I think it looks even better with a little bit of this varnish on it.
27:05And it will just be really hard-wearing and durable.
27:08It's actually quite therapeutic, relaxing this kind of thing.
27:16To be up here and no-one talking to me, no decisions to make, just doing this.
27:21You know, I could get quite into DIY.
27:25Better late than never.
27:26It's now been nearly two weeks since Jasmine has been project managing the renovation on her own.
27:40In the kitchen, the time-saving strategy she and Dominic came up with has been put into play.
27:46We've resolved the marble and the plasterers.
27:49They're working together now. Half the front room each.
27:53It's working. They seem relatively happy.
27:56Even today, I didn't know they were going to plaster the whole lot.
27:59So they've gone a little bit extra, so brilliant.
28:03We will hit the target.
28:06So the kitchen will be able to go in.
28:08The good news continues for Jasmine, with John's time away filming in Wales finally coming to an end.
28:14I find it really difficult now being away for work.
28:19And I sort of hate leaving Jazz and the kids and leaving Jazz with everything to do at the house.
28:24But the plus side is to get home and sort of see the fruit of Jazz's hard work and stress is amazing.
28:33And it is energising.
28:34You kind of come home and you see what has changed at the house.
28:39There's just so much going on that it's hard to keep on top of everything on my own.
28:43So having John back is a huge help.
28:47And it's also so nice to be able to have family time.
28:53You know, I think that's what keeps us going in between the highs and lows of the whole renovation project
29:00is when we can get together and do things as a family.
29:05So before returning to the renovation,
29:07John's joining Jasmine and the children with one of their friends on a visit to a local dog rescue center,
29:13which as dog owners themselves, they're keen to support.
29:17We're all animal lovers.
29:19Although I have to say, I'm slightly nervous that the kids are going to want to take another dog home.
29:23It's not the right time for us because we're living on construction sites right now.
29:30Joy's friend Asha is tagging along with us as well.
29:34The kids are just desperate to come and walk the dogs.
29:38Morning.
29:39Even though they're not adopting right now,
29:42the family have offered their help to exercise the dogs on a voluntary basis.
29:46Welcoming them is the rescue center's president, Susie.
29:49I tell you what, would you like to see a new puppy that's just arrived?
29:53Yes.
29:53Yeah?
29:54Colos, we'll take you in there.
29:55We'll catch up with you in a moment.
29:57Lovely.
29:58So how long have you been running this place?
30:00About three years.
30:02OK.
30:02But I've been a volunteer here for about 23 years.
30:05Really?
30:05Yeah.
30:06How long's the charity been going?
30:0733 years.
30:0833 years?
30:0933 years.
30:10How many dogs have you got in there?
30:11We've got about 150 at the moment.
30:14150?
30:14Yes.
30:15And so the dogs come from mainly the streets?
30:18Dogs that are found on the streets?
30:19Yeah, all the dogs here, all but a few, are just abandoned.
30:22We find them hanging on trees, we find them in rubbish bins,
30:25we find them in sacks and things like that.
30:27We never put a dog to sleep unless it's terminally ill
30:30and we can't do another thing about it.
30:32And believe me, we bend over backwards to make these dogs better.
30:35If a family like ours wanted to adopt a dog,
30:37what's the criteria?
30:38What do you look for in a family?
30:40Well, we always ask you to come and see the dogs first.
30:43I would say half of the time, the dog you think you want in your head
30:46isn't the dog you really need.
30:47So it's always better to come here, meet the dog,
30:50take them for a walk, then you can get to see the personality.
30:53Then you'll see, oh, that is the dog for us.
30:55They're new arrivals.
31:01These dogs are being kept separate from the others,
31:04so they can be put on a controlled diet to feed them back up to a healthy weight.
31:08Oh, they're super hungry.
31:11The problem is their tummies will just be tiny because they're not used to eating,
31:14so we can only give them little bits at a time.
31:17Go on, baby.
31:17We're going to rehabilitate these, we're going to get them well,
31:21and we're going to find new homes for them.
31:24And when you've done that, it makes everything all worthwhile at the end of it.
31:28Yeah, it's amazing work that you do.
31:30Thank you. We're proud of it.
31:34Because we can see the transformation, I know.
31:37I know.
31:45To get a taste of what it's like being a voluntary dog walker,
31:49Jasmine and John have been paired up with two of the center's residents,
31:53Clancy and Summer.
31:56He's a good boy.
31:57Yes.
31:59Summer.
32:00Summer's such a pretty name.
32:15He's happy.
32:16Oh, look at you.
32:20Yes.
32:21The dogs love the water, especially on a hot day like this.
32:24You're calling off a little bit.
32:25Living your best life.
32:25Ah!
32:28Now you've given me a little shower.
32:30I think the dogs are ready now to head back.
32:34There were two lovely dogs that were just sweet-natured.
32:40Just need someone to give them some TLC.
32:43Munch, look.
32:45No, Munch, no, Munch.
32:47There's a dog in there called Munch, and annoyingly has slightly stolen my heart.
32:54Do you need someone to rescue you?
32:55Yes.
32:56Going into the evening, I should be thinking about what we're doing for the renovation tomorrow,
33:01but I'll probably be thinking about what Munch is doing here and how much Munch would benefit
33:05from a loving family like ours.
33:07But I'm not sure the house is ready for another big dog yet.
33:11There's 150 dogs or so in there, all looking for a home.
33:20You know, it's quite upsetting to see them all.
33:23Every single one of them, you know, looking at you like, pick me, pick me, pick me.
33:28These wonderful people are picking up the pieces of all these poor dogs
33:32that someone else has abandoned or abused.
33:35I'm glad we came, and I think we'll come back again.
33:39The summer sun is shining on the Costa del Sol, and it's a big day for Jasmine and the renovation team.
34:02The new kitchen units are arriving, and inside, everything is primed for their installation.
34:07Seeing the space where the kitchen's going to go, now it's all been painted,
34:13and it's starting to look more like a liveable space, it's great.
34:18And the kitchen's been delivered.
34:20I think it's going to look amazing. I can't wait to get it installed.
34:25So it seems like everything is falling into place.
34:31Is that the whole kitchen?
34:32No, there's still more coming.
34:34Oh, look, the tall columns just fit.
34:36It's so nice to see the kitchen coming together.
34:40Because at one point, when they ripped it all out, there was no floor.
34:46There was no walls.
34:49And no ceiling.
34:49And it was kind of terrifying.
34:53But step by step, everything is coming together and being put in place.
35:01Very exciting. It looks beautiful. It's almost better than I remember. Now I see it here in the house.
35:11The handles are lovely. The colour is absolutely gorgeous.
35:14I'm really looking forward to having a functional dishwasher again.
35:18Because we haven't got one downstairs in the basement kitchenette.
35:23And, yeah, I can't wait. I love my dishwasher.
35:28The day also marks an achievement for Dominic and his builders.
35:32They've taken an empty shell and constructed new walls and a ceiling, all plastered and painted within a week.
35:39We've hit the kitchen target, which was great. A bit of stress. A little bit of stress.
35:44So it's all ready to go for them.
35:47We've still got the splash backs, the painting, the decorating, final touches, bits of skirting board.
35:56They're all little jobs, but because they're finishing jobs, they're quite slow and quite, you know, it's got to look perfect.
36:04So, you know, we're getting there.
36:08However, the pressure has now shifted onto the kitchen installers to keep to schedule.
36:12The plan is that over the next two days, they are going to fit the kitchen.
36:17And the kitchen fitters have to finish the kitchen on time because the worktop company's final day for measuring is in two days.
36:32So they have to do it then in order for us to get the worktop fitted before they go off on their break.
36:39So there's no margin for error at all.
36:44With the worktop company's holiday deadline in mind, Jasmine brings in kitchen designer Rebecca to run her installation team herself.
36:54All the furniture's here. As you can see, they arrive already assembled.
36:59The guys are here now working and I've just been through with them the design.
37:04So there's no question about what's on the plan and what's not on the plan.
37:07My fingers crossed everything goes smoothly. I'm sure it will.
37:11Everything seems to be as it should be. And tomorrow will be finished.
37:16I'm kind of entrusting everything to the kitchen fitters and hoping they get it all right.
37:23There's no reason why they shouldn't get it right because I've been through it enough times with Rebecca.
37:27And she's very meticulous.
37:30Leaving the kitchen installation to the person best placed to manage the process, Jasmine enlists John's help to focus on another key area of the build, the top sun terrace, which they need to have finished in time for their housewarming party.
37:46With some guests coming in a few weeks, it's going to be really nice to have the sun terrace finished because the house is south facing.
37:52I've always envisaged that once the sun is off the garden, we'll spend the evenings with the last bit of sun on the roof.
37:58We've had some guests in the past and I've slightly always hankered that we could take them up there for an evening drink.
38:04But now I feel like the space, I feel like we're proud enough of that space to sit and happily have some drinks in the evening.
38:11It was originally John's idea to transform part of the sun terrace into an Ibiza style lounge stroke chill out zone.
38:19But in his absence, Jasmine's been making the design decisions.
38:23Yet another delivery to our house.
38:26I mean, I don't really order much.
38:30I can't keep up with how much stuff Jazz has ordered that's arriving at the moment.
38:35I dare look at our bank account.
38:37I keep seeing boxes around the house.
38:39I'm like, what is that?
38:40What's that for?
38:41Why is that?
38:42Oh, these are much smaller than I was hoping for.
38:45Anyway, never mind.
38:47Where's the end?
38:51Coming off, coming off.
38:53This is a mess, isn't it?
38:54Put it on here and untangle it first.
38:56Oh, my God.
38:58Who's idea was it's about 100 feet of lights.
39:03And then they're all tangled up.
39:06This is a disaster.
39:09Surely they should have opened up easier than this.
39:13This is going so badly.
39:16I mean, it's fine rolling out the lights, but we haven't actually put the posts up yet to hang them on.
39:21It's not long until another one of Jasmine's purchases arrives.
39:36To fit in with the bamboo covering she's put upon the wall, she's chosen soft furnishings with a similar beach club vibe.
39:43Oh, look at that.
39:45They just expand.
39:46Two in each.
39:47Yes, that's eight.
39:49Yeah, they'll have a vacuum bag.
39:50That's satisfying opening this.
39:52That's so satisfying.
39:53They look nice.
39:54This house needs storage just for Jaz's cushions.
39:58I have gone a bit overboard with cushions.
40:01It's starting to shape up up here, isn't it?
40:03Yeah, it's good.
40:05Having our roof terrace as a usable space, not just for laundry, it will be really nice.
40:14It's just such a lovely spot.
40:16Beautiful views of the mountains and all the surrounding greenery.
40:20So, yeah, I'm really happy.
40:24Downstairs in the kitchen, work is progressing rapidly.
40:28And after a day with no hitches, the fitters have downed tools.
40:32So Jasmine and John are taking a sneak preview of the units that were once the showroom's display model.
40:38Oh, my gosh.
40:43It is better.
40:45I love it.
40:46Look at that.
40:48Oh.
40:49Oh, it looks so nice.
40:51Do you like it?
40:53It's awesome.
40:54Yeah, I like it.
40:55The colour.
40:56It really looks better in our house than it did in the showroom.
40:58It's way better than it did in the showroom.
41:01Oh, it looks so nice.
41:04All that's missing is the worktop.
41:07It feels like quite a long time ago that we were looking around kitchen showrooms.
41:10I vaguely remember being on crutches and probably not paying quite as much attention as I should do.
41:16So I had forgotten what the kitchen really looked like.
41:20So when the units had been fitted and we were sort of 70% there, it was impressive.
41:25It looked good.
41:26I was like, wow, we made the right decision.
41:28The colour is amazing.
41:30It's beautiful.
41:32I absolutely love it.
41:34It looks like the kitchen should be on target.
41:38While up on the Sun Terrace, Jasmine and John's creation has finally come together.
41:46It's not bad, is it, out here?
41:48I mean, you could make so much more of it.
41:50Be careful because it's full of dirty water.
41:53Oh, God.
41:59Now, after adding a few finishing touches, it's time to find out if it meets expectations.
42:05And you took out the washing line.
42:15I've always championed this roof terrace.
42:17Yes.
42:18You were always like, we'll never use it.
42:20It'll be too hot.
42:21No, we'll use it every single day for hanging out laundry.
42:24But you had that clever idea of the quick-release washing line.
42:29See, you're not just a pretty face, are you?
42:32This is one of my favourite spaces in the house.
42:34And I know that it's the one we've spent the least money on.
42:38But that makes it slightly more satisfying.
42:41Yeah, exactly.
42:42I want to reuse all the old lounges that we got second-hand with that bundle of furniture.
42:49And the table and eight chairs.
42:51They're all perfectly all right.
42:53Just new cushions.
42:54Upside from the table is a stroke of genius.
42:57The wooden table top, I think, looks nice and rustic.
43:02I'm actually really happy to be able to reuse the stuff that we already had.
43:08And it still looks nice.
43:10I love a fairy line of festoon.
43:12I still think I could sneak some more in here in the next few weeks.
43:15Well, knock yourself out.
43:17Whatever floats your boat.
43:20Actually, I think from the initial idea that you had,
43:23you wanted to make it like chill out Ibiza.
43:26And I was like, no, we'll never use it.
43:28Let's just keep it as a laundry area.
43:30It's kind of a happy medium, isn't it?
43:32Yeah.
43:33Because it's lovely.
43:34But we can still, it can still be practical.
43:38Laundry.
43:39I sound like I'm obsessed with laundry.
43:42I mean, yeah.
43:43Well, I'll openly admit that the speed at which you could dry clothes up here is amazing.
43:48But this is way better.
43:50Well done.
43:51Well done you.
43:52It would just be a laundry area if it was down to me.
43:55So it's good.
43:56That's leprechaun green.
43:57Beautiful colour.
43:58I love the colour.
43:59It is though I share, but...
44:00But yeah, it's not.
44:01It's too bright.
44:02Intensity at the moment, so close to the end, is ridiculous.
44:17Well, if he doesn't do it on Thursday, it won't be done in time.
44:20No, no.
44:21Because he's only got Thursday and Friday, he's pushing it already.
44:25I'm just having to leave it all in John's hands.
44:30I don't...
44:31It just couldn't be worse timing, really.
44:36If you do it, it'll be fine.
44:38I think it's pretty touch and go as to whether everything will be finished on time.
44:44At the housewarming party, it's too close to call.
44:47I'll get there.
44:50It's nice to call.
