00:00What is a roster transaction that happened that had you feeling the way that some people are feeling about the Mauricio Dubon trade to the Atlanta Braves?
00:08The number to text 713-572-4610.
00:12And you guys are doing that.
00:13I see you guys coming in strong with your, I mean, obviously some of the trade not happy about Mauricio Dubon being traded to Atlanta Braves for one Nick Allen.
00:24Not a very good hitter.
00:27I think Dubon, when it comes to his batting runs value, and look, I understand the role.
00:32I feel them.
00:35Don't even worry about it.
00:36I can feel them.
00:37The batting run value for Mauricio Dubon, he's in the 10th percentile.
00:42Remember, right?
00:43But the brother was in the H-E-B commercial, man.
00:46That's what matters.
00:48And I will acknowledge Nick Allen literally in the first percentile.
00:52There's no a zeroth percentile.
00:54He's in the lowest percentile you could be in.
00:56So, again, I recognize this, right?
00:57The difference between Nick Allen and Mauricio Dubon is about 100 points OPS-wise, which still kind of crazy.
01:06But then also Dubon, I think, gives you some, like, he gives you a few handful of home runs, whereas Nick Allen don't even bother asking him for none of those, right?
01:13But I think that the thing that I get you on the text line who are out here, like, it's the return.
01:18I understand shedding salary, but you should be able to get a better player.
01:21But that's what happens in trades, right?
01:23You give and take.
01:24Like, I don't know why people think that you're just going to hand out trash and bring back great stuff.
01:29And not to call Dubon trash, but I think the value comparison ends up being a little.
01:34It was a red flag when they say, we traded Dubon, and then you don't know what you got in.
01:40At that point, it's like, all right, man, who are the prospects?
01:43What's coming back?
01:46It's an emotional thing.
01:47That leads to the question of the day, of course.
01:49But also, I feel as if the versatility that he can bring people, the versatility that he can bring goes far beyond just, you know, the OPS and those three letters you mentioned that I forgot already, et cetera, et cetera.
02:06You know, like to be able to play outfield anywhere, infield anywhere.
02:10Are you talking about out above average, or are you talking about defensive run save?
02:13All across.
02:14Or just how important he was in that clubhouse, man.
02:17He was so well liked, man.
02:19For a utility guy like that, very well liked.
02:22Yeah.
02:23Yeah, that's the stuff that's not quantified.
02:25It hurt, man.
02:25And I'm not saying that you shouldn't be hurt.
02:28I just feel like we're in the portion of this where we might be overdoing it, but I'm going to miss him as well, if for no other reason than he was the single best dude on them H-EB commercials.
02:39Not even close.
02:40How are they going to respond to that?
02:42He wanted to be there.
02:43He was singing.
02:44They ain't going to put Nick on there.
02:46Yeah.
02:47No, they're not going to put Nick on there.
02:49Like, who?
02:50Who is it going to be?
02:51I don't know.
02:52You got to get Correa back on there, right?
02:54Ooh, that's a good point.
02:55Yeah, just slide Correa right back in there.
02:57That's probably a given, yeah.
02:58Because we were talking about Hunter Brown.
03:00I don't know, man.
03:01I don't know.
03:02I mean, great pitcher.
03:03Really great pitcher.
03:04They might force him on there, man.
03:06Cam's already in that space.
03:08And you don't have to be good.
03:09Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
03:11You could be dry as ever, man.
03:13Yeah.
03:13I think they might force Hunter Brown on there.
03:16Yeah.
03:17All right.
03:17So, what roster transactions had you in your fields, John Lopez?
03:20This one, it did a little bit, more than a little bit.
03:24I went back, like, you know, immediately go to what pops into your mind.
03:28The first couple that pop into your mind.
03:30I went back to the Billy Wagner trade.
03:32Billy Wagner was one when he went to the Mets.
03:36That was it.
03:38That one.
03:38I'm going to go to the back machine.
03:40Very few people listening will remember this, because I was in college.
03:45But, they traded Earl Campbell, man.
03:49They traded Earl Campbell to the New Orleans Saints.
03:54Are you kidding me?
03:55Yeah.
03:56I think he had won three straight rushing titles.
03:59Maybe it was a year after the three straight, but I know he won three straight rushing titles.
04:04They traded Earl Campbell.
04:06Oh, what are we doing?
04:10Interesting.
04:10Someone said the Jalen Green trade?
04:13Really?
04:14I mean, well, I guess if you're just talking about the feelings.
04:17Yeah.
04:17That makes sense if you're a Jalen Green guy.
04:19I mean, to be fair, it's not all that absurd.
04:23The Rockets were selling you on the idea that, hey, man, Jalen Green, when you were in the wilderness,
04:28it's like, this is who we are putting the stock of this team on.
04:31And you built up emotional investment over a number of years.
04:35I understand that we can get to the logical place where we go, yeah, Alper and Shane Goon is better.
04:40And you're going to acquire Kevin Durant, right?
04:42Like, you can get to those logics.
04:43But sometimes what you know and what you feel are different things.
04:45You're like, hey, that's my guy.
04:47Yeah.
04:47I think the thing was Jalen Green kind of came right after James Harden.
04:52So, a lot of people were sold on Jalen Green from that point.
04:55Like, all right, screw James Harden.
04:58It's Jalen Green time.
04:59Yeah.
04:59And they just rolled with Jalen Green the whole time.
05:02A hundred pence on the YouTube page.
05:05Yeah, a hundred pence hurt me.
05:06That's a real good one.
05:07A hundred pence hurt me.
05:08Especially because that felt like, because you trade them to the Phillies, right?
05:10Like, that felt like the time where the Astros, in my mind, were becoming like the Phillies triple-A team.
05:16Just all the time.
05:18Damn, stop giving it to them.
05:20Yeah.
05:20Stop giving them the players.
05:21I hate them.
05:21Anybody else jump into mind?
05:23Well, I had a little bit less of an emotional connection, as I'm sure you can imagine, with this.
05:28But the first thing that came to mind, just a roster transaction that made me go, whoa, in the way that we had with Dubon.
05:33The Rudy Gobert trade of a few years back when the Timberwolves and Utah Jazz made them.
05:38Gave up like six first-round picks.
05:40It was four first-round picks, a couple of, like, valuable players, and additional second-round picks.
05:46And it was swaps, as well.
05:48Like, it was just so much for a player that admittedly was a defense player of the year a number of times and everything.
05:54But I was just like, oh, this changes the landscape of what we're doing here.
05:57Everything is, like, the price has gone up for everybody.
06:00And that's the thing that got me.
06:01It was like, wait, they did what?
06:03Right?
06:04It wasn't even just, like, the player got traded.
06:06I could understand how that happened.
06:08It was the cost at which it went, and I was just like, oh, this changes.
06:11Like, my whole dynamic of we've done a lot to figure out what, you know, what does this trade cost?
06:16Like, what would it cost to get that player?
06:18And I was like, I have no idea anymore if Rudy Gobert goes for four-plus extra compensation.
06:22Yeah, mine, what kind of happened recently, the Luka trade.
06:27I just remember just seeing it on social media.
06:30I'm like, wait, what?
06:32It was so crazy to me that I didn't even think he was available for a trade.
06:36I didn't even think that was an option.
06:38He shouldn't have been.
06:38Yeah, and that was the first time in a long time where I'm like, man, I got to watch ESPN or the NBA channel.
06:47I don't never go to the NBA channel.
06:48I'm like, I got to see what's going on.
06:50Yeah.
06:51And I sat there and watched it all night pretty much.
06:53And, Figgy, you remember this one?
06:55We were sitting right here.
06:59Yandre Hopkins.
07:00There it is.
07:01I mean, it's all over the text line.
07:03It's one of those where it crosses all the – or it checks all the boxes where it didn't make sense.
07:09Yep.
07:10It was not necessary.
07:11What you got back.
07:12The return was bad.
07:14Yeah.
07:14It's just all of it.
07:15All of it.
07:15I remember y'all sitting there like, oh, it got to be a first-round pick at least.
07:20Yeah, yeah.
07:20Or I think y'all heard –
07:23Third round and –
07:25Who was the running back?
07:26David Johnson.
07:26David Johnson.
07:27David Johnson.
07:28And he's like, oh, no, I'm sure they're paying his salary and all that stuff to come –
07:32Nope.
07:32Nope.
07:32His full salary.
07:34Yeah.
07:35And a second-round pick.
07:36Shout-out to Bill O'Brien.
07:38Shut-shut up.
07:39And Jack.
07:42Yeah.
07:42And Jack.
07:43That is – oh, man.
07:44That was tough.
07:46I think another good one that was like a woe to me was when they traded up for Will Anderson Jr. in the draft.
07:52Oh, yeah.
07:52That's –
07:53That one, because I wasn't at the draft party, but I was kind of keeping up on my phone.
07:57Yeah.
07:58And I saw they were on the clock at number two.
