00:00All right, let's start before the game.
00:03Damien Pierce inactive.
00:06That's right.
00:07Thoughts?
00:08I mean, makes sense.
00:10Is that it?
00:12Makes sense.
00:13Keep criticizing Damien Pierce.
00:15I forgot about that.
00:17And you play it all the time.
00:18Is that it?
00:20Here?
00:22Keep doing it.
00:24I think so.
00:26Keep doing it.
00:27Figgy.
00:30I keep saying that he's not the same guy he was a year ago.
00:35Clearly, Figgy is on the other side.
00:37Or at least wants to be.
00:38I mean, Nick Chubb is limited in what he still has in a future context.
00:42And we're not talking about this year.
00:44But, like, next year, do you anticipate Nick Chubb being a part of this running back room?
00:49I don't know that I should, right?
00:51Yeah, yeah.
00:52Joe Mixon.
00:54If he's back healthy, maybe?
00:57Yeah, yeah.
00:57You can't say, oh, for sure.
00:59So, with those being question marks, I think Woody Marks is clearly, obviously, going to be here.
01:03Are they going to acquire another running back by a draft, by a trade?
01:07Like, with that being the case, it might just be, all right, well, there's your Damien Pierce.
01:14But outside of, like, hey, this is just a dude that we have on our roster to run the football.
01:19Yeah, man.
01:20I feel like they might have actually given up the idea that he's going to be an impactful running back for him.
01:24Yeah, I'm kind of out of the Damien Pierce business.
01:27Sorry, Andre.
01:28But, I don't know.
01:30When I saw that, I wasn't surprised.
01:32I don't be surprised anymore to see him inactive or active.
01:36At that point, I'm just kind of like, whatever.
01:39I think you're out of the Damien Pierce business.
01:41All due respect.
01:42He's been on the show.
01:42He's been a great dude to have and all that.
01:45But, the main reason, not just that he's inactive, it's that they tried to make him that guy this year.
01:51Like, they've tried to put him on the field, and it wasn't effective again.
01:55You know?
01:56They put him on the field a lot of years.
01:57Yeah.
01:57And it wasn't nearly the effect that you wanted, so no.
02:01Yeah.
02:01All right, here's another passing thought, and you just got to put it bluntly.
02:06What the hell was D'Amico thinking?
02:10Boss and taking the ball.
02:12Look, the argument that I came to in my head that sounds good, generally football-wise,
02:18is we want to establish the tone.
02:20We want to get out there with the offense, go and score quickly, and immediately apply pressure.
02:25And that's the immediate fault.
02:27Based on what?
02:29Vibes.
02:29Hope.
02:30Yeah.
02:30I'm like, with the defense that you have, you win the toss, defer.
02:35With the defense you have, you can gain momentum by a turnover or a big sack and shortening the field.
02:42Like, if you're playing the odds, all right?
02:45First of all, just in general, you defer.
02:47Unless you are...
02:48I was about to say, is that law at this point?
02:50Yes.
02:51In essence.
02:52Unless the Texans suddenly became the greatest show on turf, you just defer.
02:58Period.
03:00Point blank.
03:00And what's funny is, they got down there, and honestly, it's kind of because the Titans wanted you to, right?
03:08Like, you were about to be off the field, and then you punt the football, and Jeffrey Simmons is like, hold on there.
03:14I would like to give you a penalty and give you some free yardage, and then you can keep going.
03:17And then you get to a place where you have a ball that can't get reeled in, or what have you, and you waste the challenge.
03:23But like, yeah, you almost still even got the opportunity to have that, but it was just excruciating the way it happened.
03:29And just logically, it's not something you could do, or you should do.
03:33And yet, a number of times where they do things that feel like they counter what is the commonly held belief in football circles.
03:40I really feel that what came into play here was that mentality, the swarm, the attitude, the Tommy Togiai, the whole player we want.
03:52I really feel like D'Amico was thinking, you know, I got an idea.
03:56Let's go establish the tone.
03:57I got an idea.
03:58Let's do something big with the offense.
04:01I'm with you in terms of the idea, but that idea has, compared to the defense making a big play,
04:06like I said, even if you don't create a turnover, just a three and out, just a three and out,
04:11you probably have better field position and momentum early on, you know?
04:15Yeah, I just do the logical thing.
04:19Give yourself, maximize the opportunities that you have.
04:22Literally, maximize the possessions.
04:24You're not probably going to get fewer possessions going the way that they did.
04:27Yeah.
04:27Yeah.
04:28All right, another passing thought here.
04:30I know you guys noticed this.
04:32Chris Myers, and he was calling the game with Mark Schlereth.
04:36He sounded like he would rather be having a root canal.
04:40Correct.
04:40Than calling this game.
04:41He's not very pleased.
04:42Like, the subtle things he was saying, he's like, ah, well, you know, not a lot of offense.
04:47We'll see if anything gets going here in the night.
04:49I kind of appreciated it, man.
04:50Like, don't front for me.
04:52Look, I'm here.
04:53We are all here together, right?
04:55Because if you go and actually look at the map of where this game was broadcast,
05:01it is home territory, baby.
05:02We are not.
05:03If you were playing Risk, you weren't picking up no additional territory.
05:06It is quite a little bitty dot.
05:08It was Houston and surrounding areas, and not even the fullness of Tennessee.
05:12In fact, they were talking about this in Tennessee, the idea that Tennessee, the Tennessee Titans
05:16have been so bad that they're losing the influence that they should have in the rest of Tennessee
05:20and the surrounding areas to other teams that are infringing upon what should be their fan base.
05:25Because it was literally just middle Tennessee.
05:27It wasn't.
05:30Nobody else.
05:31Unless you were chained to this game by fandom or work, you were not watching this football game.
05:38And so, yeah, go ahead and talk about it like that, Chris.
05:39That's how we all feel.
05:40Hey, salute to B. Scott, too.
05:42He tweeted something like, I almost nodded off during this game.
05:45Yeah.
05:45I actually almost nodded off right in the last two posts.
05:48That's why I came up here to the live lounge.
05:50I like coming up here, watching with the fellas, getting their insight.
05:53But also, they kept me accountability on these eyelids staying up.
05:56I'm not lying, man.
05:57At halftime, I was like, I was telling my wife, she's like, well, you know, to ask about the game,
06:04I said, I have to watch the second half.
06:07Not I want to.
06:08Not I'm excited to.
06:09Like, I have to watch the second half.
06:12I mean, obviously, it got better.
06:13But it was, he was awesome.
06:15Chris Myers was like, ah, well.
06:18And they were just like, yep.
06:19We're here.
06:19You're here.
06:19Bad team.
06:20Let's make the most of it.
06:21Let's do it.
06:22Another passing thought here.
06:24Shout out to Matthew Wright, man.
06:26I mean, just.
06:28We haven't talked about this.
06:30Redemption arc, right?
06:31Redemption story.
06:32I mean, just.
06:33And against one of his many former teams.
06:36But look.
06:37He can't be the guy that's like revenge game.
06:40Because he'd be revenge in all the damn time.
06:42Against everybody.
06:43But like, this is no small task that he did.
06:47I mean, pretty crucial kicks.
06:50Was, you know, dang near perfect.
06:52You know, I know.
06:53You know, there was the clang and all that stuff.
06:56But.
06:56That's what I was going to say.
06:58And that's a 31 yarder, right?
06:59If we were at all.
07:00I still don't know what his deal is.
07:02Right?
07:02I got to find it out.
07:03And it seems like if D'Amico is right.
07:06His service might come to an end.
07:10Yeah.
07:10Matthew hoping to have him back for the Thursday night game versus the Bills.
07:13But I don't know what his deal is.
07:15Why he keeps bouncing around.
07:16Because if you look at the numbers.
07:18Ostensibly, he's a pretty good kicker.
07:19Have you looked at his career numbers?
07:20They're good.
07:20Yeah.
07:20They're pretty good.
07:21And the only thing.
07:23He's like 7.
07:24Or he was.
07:24Yeah.
07:257-11 from like 50.
07:26That's got to be it.
07:27Yeah.
07:27But it's like even then.
07:28That's not.
07:28That's not terrible.
07:29Right?
07:29Those are long kicks.
07:30So you would imagine like.
07:31Hey.
07:31This is a dude who makes kicks when you ask him to for the most part.
07:35Yeah.
07:35He just keeps bouncing around.
07:36And then 31-yarder and clank.
07:38And I'll say, oh, okay.
07:39Yeah.
07:39I don't know if that's why.
07:40But that's going to be why here.
07:41But then now.
07:42Now you're like, okay.
07:44Thank you for your service.
07:45You know.
07:46I mean, he got a game ball and everything else.
07:48He sure did.
07:48And you know what?
07:49He deserved it.
07:50Right?
07:50Yeah.
07:50Because again.
07:51I asked myself when they.
07:52Actually, not myself.
07:53I asked it out loud to Sean and Clint as we're watching this game.
07:56And I'm like, does that change the way D'Amico Ryans calls this game?
07:59Because D'Amico Ryans typically leans into allowing his kicker to kick.
08:02Now, of course, there's a comfort with Kaimi.
08:05Yeah.
08:05That you want to lean into.
08:07But after missing a 31-yarder, does that make it so that in a 4th or 2 situation,
08:12they go, yeah, we're not kicking this.
08:14We're going for it.
08:14Right?
08:15And then they got to a point where ultimately the circumstance made them kick.
08:18I think they had confidence.
08:19And I think they did, too.
08:20Yeah.
08:20And I think they did, too.
08:21And again, you know, the bad part is now it's like, hell,
08:25he may be out of the building already.
08:26You know, who knows?
08:27Because Kaimi's going to be back, according to D'Amico,
08:29if you heard him on our show earlier.
08:31But it's like, thank you for your service.
08:33Appreciate it.
08:33Game ball.
08:34What a rough game, man.
08:35Now hit the road.
08:36Thanks for coming out.
08:38Yeah.
08:38You can go ahead and grab you some towels or something on your way out as a commemorative.
08:42Yeah.
08:42Something like that.
08:43He literally got a parting gift.
08:45That's it.
08:45All right.
08:46Another passing thought here.
08:48Jalen.
08:48Oh, still, still them.
08:51He needs to give.
08:52They need to bring in more.
08:5318 snaps, if memory serves.
08:54Like, it felt like we went backwards here.
08:57Yeah.
08:57And D'Amico asked about it.
08:59And his answer, his answers on this question in particular, getting under my skin a little
09:05bit.
09:05The idea of, yeah, I want to see him on the field, too.
09:07As if, as if you're not the man in charge.
09:10You're the head coach, man.
09:11You can, you can, you can affect this.
09:13Yeah.
09:13Right?
09:14You said, I want to throw the ball to, to Nico Collins 20 times.
09:17And then what happened?
09:18They throw it to him at least 20 times in the last couple of games.
09:20I feel like you can affect this.
09:22But ultimately, like, what he's getting to is situations or whatever make this happen.
09:26And I'm like, hey, man, that's all fine and good.
09:29I saw a number of times where they got Christian Kirk out here.
09:32Yeah.
09:32And his, his yards per route run is abysmal.
09:35He is dropping passes in instances where you need, where you got to have it.
09:39And if I'm going to be entirely honest, and I'm not, I'm trying to be careful about this
09:44because I'm not no route runner specialist.
09:46His routes don't look all that clean.
09:48They don't.
09:48They, they really don't.
09:50I'm quite surprised.
09:51I thought he'd be a really big addition.
09:52But again, that speaks to Jalen Noel.
09:55And so I'm like, yeah, right.
09:57I hear the idea.
09:58And I think we might, you know, the idea of being consistent and trustworthy, I think
10:02is of, of a great value to D'Amico Rines.
10:05And maybe that's why you lean into veterans as much as he tends to do.
10:09But it feels like, Hey man, I think Jalen Noel could do that job like flat out better.
10:15Not even just like, Oh, Jalen Noel might give you something that Christian.
10:17No, I think he could just do the job better right now.
10:19At least off of what I saw on Sunday.
10:21I totally agree.
10:22He needs it.
10:22And by the way, D'Amico, I think it was on a Texans all access, uh, said no more rookies.
10:28You know, these guys aren't rookies.
10:31What was, what was the, uh, mantra that we came up with a few weeks back?
10:35Like be, uh, loyal to the production.
10:37And right now the production says put Jalen Noel on that field.
10:40Like, and not even just, Hey, it's five wide.
10:43So now Jalen Noel can be on as Christian Kirk is also.
10:45No, no, no.
10:46Take Christian Kirk off the field.
10:47Put Jalen Noel on the field.
10:49Like, it's just that it feels like more and more we're compiling evidence to that, to that, uh, that answer.
10:55And the more we compile evidence to that, the more that they seesaw up and down, getting closer and further away.
11:00It's like, we're playing a hot and like a red light, green light or something or hot and cold.
11:04It's like, Oh, you're getting hotter.
11:05Oh, now you're going colder.
11:06Come on.
11:06Come back.
11:07Oh, you're getting hotter again.
11:09Uh, speaking of D'Amico, this is a much bigger conversation to have at some point.
11:14You touched on it in the last segment, but.
11:17Uh, I'm legitimately starting to kind of worry about just general game management from, from how we started this segment with, you know, taking the ball to the Christian Kirk review, which by the way, he directly put it on the guys upstairs, uh, today.
11:32Yes.
11:33Like directly, like, so that they saw something that I didn't see.
11:36I think is how he put it, uh, or something like that.
11:38Nevertheless, uh, something needs to be fixed because just general game management is just not going to say awful,
11:46but it's not good.
11:47And it hasn't improved.
11:49And the thing about it is in a game like this, you can overcome it.
11:52And again, and a number of regular season games, you can overcome it when the games get real tight.
11:57And when it's cold, you get to December, you get to January, you get to playoffs.
12:01Those are things that can end your season where, you know, it's, it's small things that are differences in game.
12:07Well, there's a number of games that we could think of playoff.
12:13It was 13 seconds.
12:14Is that the play the game between the chiefs and the bills?
12:17We could think of the, uh, the missed, uh, pass interference that happens, uh, between who was that?
12:22Was that Rams and, uh, was that Rams and Vikings saints, saints and Vikings.
12:26The whole, the whole Louisiana was mad, right?
12:28We could think of little instances where it's one play that changed the game.
12:31How much more so it could it be a management decision?
12:34That is the difference between the Texans rolling on a playoff circumstance or going home.
12:38Like this needs to be rectified.
12:40Needs to.
12:41Yeah.
12:41One more for you.
12:43I, I honestly, hand to God, this is part of a confession.
12:46I guess I had no idea.
12:48I would be this in on Trent Brown attack.
12:52You're really locked in there.
12:53I'm locked in Trent Brown at right tackle because it just gives you the options, man.
12:58It gives you the option.
12:59I think Jared Patterson has been more than fine.
13:01You could Titus Howard.
13:02He can play in pretty much as proved.
13:04He can play, uh, anywhere on the line.
13:06Uh, it, it, you know, go back to the very early on training camp preseason.
13:12We want to put our best five out there.
13:13I think we know the best five, man.
13:15Put them out there.
13:16This is really bad on Blake Fisher, man.
13:19Oh God.
13:19Yes.
13:20Man.
13:21That's the only thing I keep thinking about every time you think about Trent Brown playing.
13:25Yeah.
13:25Like, oh, he was a second round pick, man.
13:27He's not the only other, he's not the only player that you go, is this bad for him?
13:31Right.
13:31Trent Brown, uh, or sorry, Blake Fisher won.
13:34Is Juice Scruggs also in this situation?
13:36I think Juice Scruggs, I don't know who he made, made mad.
13:38Who did he take off?
13:39Cause I, I don't think he's, I mean, he hasn't been great all the time, but boy, he's, he's not getting any.
13:44He was a second round pick too, man.
13:46Yeah.
13:46He's not getting any looks.
13:47Right.
13:47He didn't work out at center.
13:51Like after, after you, well, that's a better center than you.
13:54There's two positions where he's being overlooked right now.
13:57And to be fair, I, I don't, I don't rate the evaluation offensively for this team at this
14:02point.
14:02I'm going to just be flat out that way.
14:03So the idea that, well, this person beat that person out.
14:06And so that says something about them.
14:07Not that sure.
14:08However, there's two positions center and left left guard where they're playing somebody
14:12over him where I go, Oh, interesting.
14:14Cause Jake Andrews at center.
14:16Let me be nice.
14:17Uh, Jarrett Patterson at left guard.
14:19Fine.
14:19Like fine.
14:20I'm not trying to knock him, but those are two places where Jake Andrews should not be playing
14:23center.
14:25I, I would have heard if he wasn't either.
14:27Cause there was another couple of plays where you go, Oh, that's number 60 in the quarterback
14:30slap.
14:31There it is.
14:32There it is.
14:33Uh, that happens every week.
14:34It really does.
14:35It really, it truly does.
14:36Now he might be, he might be part of the reason why everybody's on the same page and they're
14:40able to get things done.
14:41And maybe that's the, uh, that's the trade off there, but it's, it's hard to ignore the
14:45fact that he'd be getting pushed.
14:47He does get pushed sometimes.
14:49All right.
14:49Uh, those are some passing thoughts here in the loop on sports radio, six, 10s, uh, all that being
14:53I said, still one 16 and 13, five and five.
14:56That's really the biggest, especially this year.
14:58You look across the league at how many teams that are, uh, I guess we're supposed to ostensibly
15:02be good.
15:03And you look at them and you go, Ooh, I didn't feel good after that game.
15:06Even if they did win, right?
15:07The Eagles, one of those teams you're talking about, uh, against the lions where they got
15:10a 16 to six victory.
15:11Was that this final 19 or something like that?
15:14And you looked up and I was like, I ain't think they, they looked all that good in there.
15:17Just win baby.
15:18At this point, uh, especially as you're fighting to try and get yourself to the playoffs.
15:21And that's exactly what they did.
15:2316 to 13 over the Titans.
