00:00The question being asked right here, John Lopez, is pursuant to this game, short week.
00:05And with the short week, there's always an interesting, it feels like at least,
00:09the interesting dynamic of the home team maybe getting a little bit of an advantage
00:14when it comes to the extra day that is gained due to the visiting team having to travel
00:20in addition to it already being a short week.
00:23There's some other things you could talk about as advantages, at least for the Texans on paper.
00:28But where are the places that the Bills might have some short week advantages here?
00:33713-572-416.
00:35So immediately you ask the question, if you ask the question,
00:38would you rather be at home on a Thursday night or on the road?
00:40It's an obvious answer. You'd rather be at home.
00:42So period, point blank, that you'd rather be at home than on the road.
00:47But I did start thinking a little bit about this Bills team in particular.
00:50And is there any advantage that the Bills might have with the short week?
00:56And I thought of this listening to D'Amico Ryan's talk about Josh Allen.
01:01I mean, the Bills, they're up against it.
01:03You know, coming from Buffalo, they might be flying to Houston right now,
01:08if not now, in a couple of hours.
01:09I mean, they're flying in today.
01:11So you've got a big advantage just, you know, in terms of just the schedule.
01:16But when you face a very unique quarterback, like you will not face before or since,
01:24you know, you won't face another quarterback like Josh Allen.
01:27You'd sure like to have a lot more time to prepare.
01:29You'd sure like to have some healthy, you know, healthier bodies.
01:35You know, no fatigue factor.
01:38Or all that to D'Amico.
01:40And that's what got me thinking about this.
01:42Yeah, each scheme has their own philosophy of how they use a spy.
01:48And I know it's easy for everybody to just say, oh, spy the quarterback.
01:51But what are you doing?
01:52You're standing there watching him throw the ball.
01:54Or, you know, what are you actually doing with that spy player?
01:58But, you know, I won't get into specifics of what we're doing.
02:01But, you know, some teams use it.
02:03It works well.
02:04Some teams use it.
02:04It doesn't.
02:05It's just what's your personnel?
02:07How do you attack, you know, their scheme?
02:09And what are you looking to accomplish by using a spy?
02:12Josh Allen is just different, man.
02:14And I know the Texans, we talked about it, you know, this week.
02:17The Texans have had success just as a franchise, much less last year under D'Amico and Matt Burke.
02:23But he is extremely unique.
02:26And a texter, you know, brought up a really good point that I hadn't even thought of.
02:29When you face a very unique quarterback that you have to have a lot of time to prepare for
02:35and do things like spy, as you just heard, or however you're going to play it.
02:39They faced Lamar Jackson on a short week last year.
02:42They did?
02:42Yeah.
02:42At home.
02:44At home.
02:44Yeah.
02:44That's a very unique quarterback.
02:47So, it got me thinking, Josh Allen is the advantage.
02:50You know, even though there are so many things that you could check the side of the Texans
02:53playing Thursday night at home, Josh Allen's going to cause some real issues.
02:56I was even thinking about that when y'all was talking about the injuries the Bills have on offense.
03:00I was thinking, like, man, Josh Allen's still playing?
03:03Yeah.
03:04Like, he could carry your team on his own.
03:06He's that type of quarterback.
03:07And you have, like, a day and a half to get ready.
03:09Yeah.
03:10Two days.
03:10I mean, that is ultimately the biggest portion or the biggest talking point in this game
03:15is just what does Josh Allen look like?
03:19I also had a similar thought.
03:20This was Josh Allen.
03:21Can you give me Josh Allen cut two, if you don't mind, Fig?
03:23This was Josh Allen talking yesterday.
03:25And this was him talking about the fact that you played this team last year, week five.
03:30And it was the one that we've talked about a number of times, one of Josh Allen's worst
03:32performance of his 2024 MVP season.
03:36Does last year's loss to the Texans still sting for you badly, Josh?
03:39I got beat up that game.
03:41Didn't play well at all.
03:42You know, it's watching that film.
03:44There's a lot of good stuff to watch from that film, but it's hard to watch.
03:47You know, I played pretty badly.
03:48So, yeah, hopefully we can go out there and play a little bit better and move the ball a little bit better.
03:53But again, this defense is no easy task to go against, and it's going to take everything
03:57that we got from everybody on the field.
03:59He's obviously going to give heat praise against a defense that rightfully deserves it in the
04:03Houston Texans.
04:04But at the same time, tell me that didn't sound like a dude who's ready to right some wrongs.
04:09Chip on shoulder.
04:10In addition to that, in addition to kind of the general chip on shoulder element of it,
04:15this will kind of play a little bit more like a division game.
04:18It's like a common opponent.
04:19You've seen them relatively recently.
04:21Last year, you saw them, and it's not like the defense has changed to a great degree.
04:26Like, I have a feeling that they will be able to use not just trends and things that are
04:30happening this year, but what they actually were able to experience last year.
04:33And I think that that should give Josh Allen and the offense and the team in general a
04:38better opportunity to come out and be successful here in NRG.
04:41And that's not a good thing, right?
04:42Like, that's not a good thing for your Texans because a second look at this defense for a
04:48player of his caliber.
04:50I said it just flatly, just in a general statistics perspective.
04:56What are the chances like he did in that game?
05:00I feel like when you also consider that he has that game to work off of to use as a foundation
05:05coming in, I do wonder how far, right?
05:08What's the delta between the performance he gave last week, week five, and what he will
05:12ultimately put on on that field this week?
05:14Yeah, and everyone is going to be fatigued.
05:17It's just, it's a rough week for home and visitors.
05:21But also when you have a dude that's, what is he?
05:23Six, four, two, 50 or whatever he is.
05:26Big boy.
05:26A big old dude that can run and hard to bring down.
05:30You know, does that play in?
05:31You know, your guys are going to be a little fatigued, especially when this is also a very
05:36good running team.
05:38I think they're the number one running team in the NFL, the Buffalo Bills, you know, with
05:41James Cook and others.
05:42I think they lead the league in rushing.
05:44So, you know, you're a little fatigued.
05:46They're going to pound the ball at you.
05:48And you got that big dude.
05:50Again, just in general, give me the home game on a Thursday night.
05:54But the fact that it's Josh Allen coming in and so unique, such a unique skill set, it
06:00just makes me pause.
06:02And I'm looking at the schedule right now and they have not played well, just in general,
06:07the Texans against the better quarterbacks in the league.
06:09No, I mean, that's, that's been the very obvious thing.
06:11All the people that have had concerns about this Houston, Texas team, that's, that's
06:16a large part of the, the foundation here.
06:18I think also you come back around to just simply the power rankings, the way that the
06:23national perspective is on this team.
06:25That's going to be something the team that they look at.
06:28They very basically, you can go, all right, who are the teams that the Texans have beat?
06:31How good are they?
06:31But then also who are the quarterbacks that they've been able to, to beat in these contexts.
06:35And when it's, when you get to the, the, uh, the birds of the world, you go, oh, well,
06:42those were losses.
06:42And then you can come around and all right, you got some cam wards and, uh, Trevor Lawrence's
06:46that you got some Victor victories, Cooper rushes.
06:49All right.
06:49That's cool.
06:49And so, yeah, the, when, when you put Josh Allen very firmly in the category of the
06:54good quarterbacks, that also does not make, that doesn't make you comfortable, especially
06:57on top of the fact that you want to know, uh, what, what was the worst game that the Texans
07:02defense in particular, just the Texans as a whole had in this season, what would you
07:06say it was?
07:07Tampa?
07:08Who, who, who would you say?
07:10Was it not Monday night versus Seattle?
07:11Oh, Seattle.
07:12Yes.
07:12What was one of the things that Seattle had to their advantage?
07:15A big explosive football team.
07:17The bills are second in explosive pass rate, second explosive touchdowns.
07:21The explosion that this offense has is the thing that I think is one of their big advantages.
07:25That's what he does.
07:26He throws the ball downfield.
07:27This Texans team and the defense has done a great job of just, Hey, we're going to force
07:31you to make good decisions constantly.
07:33And we're just going to snuff it out eventually.
07:35Um, what happens with big looping shots over the top, especially when you have an offense
07:40that's not capable of mirroring that, or at least feels like they're not capable of mirroring
07:43that.
07:44I think that that is also an advantage to take into account here.
07:46Yeah, it just, it was something, you know, when I heard him talking about that and boy,
07:49they, you can just sense, uh, you know, that, that, that for everybody, but especially right
07:55now in short week, they're scrambling, trying to figure out, you know, how they're going
07:58to play.
07:59It's a really good defense.
08:00I expect them to play well, but they're scrambling how they're going to play, uh, you
08:03know, Josh Allen right now, because it's a short week.
08:05He's coming in with that unique skillset.
08:07Now I talk about the big play.
08:09We talk about Josh Allen, I think the running game.
08:12And you talked about, uh, best in the league, right?
08:13That the, that's in large part because Josh Allen also factors in the, you're accounting
08:20for 10 guys as you typically are in run situations.
08:22Cause that quarterback's not actually doing something.
08:24He's not going to go block.
08:25Josh Allen is going to run with the football.
08:27Josh Allen's going to get out there and block because he's a psycho of sorts.
08:30Like that changed the math on this somewhat, but cook has, he's played, he only played
08:3410 games.
08:34He's almost got a thousand.
08:35He's really good running the football.
08:37He's actually also interestingly enough, um, good at catching the ball out of the backfield.
08:41They're doing that a little more lately.
08:42They haven't utilized it a lot, but, uh, Joe Brady actually made mention of it this
08:47week, um, in the media.
08:49And that's one of those things where I go, Ooh, don't let them break out an additional
08:52thing for this defense to have to consider.
08:54But yeah, I think that that that's one of the things as well, right?
08:56Like the Josh Allen being able to run the football and helping the run game be
09:00a problem that, do you think they're going to implement a spy, uh, in spots?
09:04I don't think so.
09:05It kind of reading between the lines.
09:08He's like, uh, D'Amico, you just heard it when, uh, earlier in this segment, he's
09:12like, well, then what does he do?
09:13Does he watch him throw?
09:15So that kind of gave me the indication that they're not going to run a spy because
09:18he doesn't want to, you know, you're already defending 11 guys, so to speak.
09:22And then you have a spy that maybe like he, like D'Amico said, just going to stand
09:26there, shadow him and watch him throw.
09:27Uh, so I, I, I'm starting to lean toward where you are.
09:31Yeah.
09:31Yeah.
09:32Uh, man, this isn't another, another place where you go or do the bills have
09:35another distinct advantage in this?
09:37How much do you lean into the idea that the Texans have not played well, um, in
09:41primetime games?
09:42Well, I, I, I always tell myself it doesn't mean anything this time and then
09:46they don't do it again.
09:47So they've been consistently average, you know, they want some games, but, uh,
09:52they've been consistently average to below average on primetime games.
09:55I mean, they've had some instances where they've actually,
09:57actually three, two, right.
10:00Those games that you lost Rams, Tampa, Seahawks, Denver versus the Jags.
10:05Well, actually, you know, well, the first game versus the Jags.
10:07That's fair.
10:07Uh, the, the offense was bad.
10:10Sure.
10:11Um, the confident, the, where, where's your confidence level with the offense?
10:14That's the question that I have.
10:15And maybe that is able to shake because of what we talked about starting the
10:18show where it feels like you should, the delusion of running the football might
10:22actually be available to you in this game.
10:24And maybe that changes the dynamic here.
10:25I don't know.
10:26All right.
10:26Uh, you're in loop here on sports radio, 6, 10 and no 7, 1, 3.
10:30Jayla Petrie isn't back, which is another thing that I think gets interesting
10:33because, uh, their ability to get to the quarterback is going to be,
10:37is going to be vital or at least corralling the quarterback and really bringing
10:41him down.
10:41It's going to be interesting if they're capable of, um, cause that is a tackle
10:45breaker inherently in the way that he plays the game.
10:47But yeah, the easy answer is one of the big advantages on the short week or any
10:51week, which is the, for the bills is that dude over there, uh, Josh.
