00:01Living in the basement, it's been really hard.
00:03Getting it finally finished and looking amazing is going to be superb.
00:10My dad would probably flip his lid if he saw this.
00:13He's very much a perfectionist.
00:15Don't turn too early.
00:21Oh, it's looking amazing, isn't it?
00:26Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that something like this would be a reality.
00:35It looks so different now, doesn't it?
00:38I mean, it's definitely become way more than we had planned, right?
00:43Well, it's almost like you don't need the rest of the house now.
00:50We've only got a week until the kitchen is arriving.
00:55So all of this needs to be done before then.
00:58Walls and ceilings are really important, actually.
01:01Underrated sometimes.
01:04He's a good boy.
01:06What keeps us going in between the highs and lows of the whole renovation project is when
01:13we can get together and do things as a family.
01:15Oh, they're bringing it out.
01:18I'm getting nervous now.
01:20I think it's a crazy idea.
01:23That's the end.
01:25Whose idea was it about 100 feet of lights?
01:27This is a disaster.
01:29With some guests coming in a few weeks, it's going to be really nice to have the Sun Terrace finished.
01:33Yeah.
01:34Finally.
01:35Yeah.
01:36Yeah.
01:37The clock is ticking on the Costa del Sol for Jasmine and John's renovation.
01:52There's just a few weeks to go to get everything finished in time for a special gathering that's been organised for close family and friends.
02:00We wanted to do a nice little housewarming party to invite everyone back to see how things have progressed, but everything's delayed.
02:15We're still hoping to have everything done by then.
02:19It will be challenging.
02:22But with the invites already out and flights booked, a last minute cancellation is not an option.
02:28And while the entertainment room in the basement is now fully operational, a lot of the family's home is still a building site.
02:36I knew when we took on this project that we would have to be living here whilst the renovation was going on.
02:42But I think what I didn't anticipate was that it would be so dirty, so noisy, so overwhelming, so many people in the house and so many different demands on my headspace.
03:08I think we're kind of at the pinnacle at the moment of the most stressful time and hopefully we get over this peak and then it starts getting easier and it starts getting more finished and you start to see more progress.
03:23So that's what I'm hoping.
03:25Right now, one of the biggest challenges for Jasmine is that John is away from home filming in Wales in an extreme location.
03:34I'm currently working at Mount Snowden, which is, it seems like, and is a long way from Jasmine kids in the south of Spain.
03:42It feels weird. I'm into about 10 days of being away from them and there's a lot going on in the house and I feel slightly helpless.
03:51There's certain bits that I thought I would be doing, certain bits that I would be finishing, but we're really up against it time-wise, so jazz is having to crack on.
04:00But needs must. I have to work. I'm looking forward to getting home and grafting and putting in a stint of trying to finish the house.
04:08Even in summer, temperatures can be close to freezing on the peak of Mount Snowden.
04:17While in Spain, Jasmine's team of builders are labouring in 40 degree heat.
04:25I bought a watermelon yesterday. Me and the kids ate about a quarter of it. I've got so much left and I thought I need to give some to the guys.
04:32It's so hot today. I thought a nice cold watermelon out of the fridge would be refreshing.
04:39Absolutely beautiful.
04:41Look at you, absolutely sweating.
04:44I think here, because of the heat and the temperature, you know, you wouldn't really be wanting a cup of tea and a biscuit.
04:52Take some of that and then take some of this.
04:54Something really cold and refreshing like watermelon straight out of the fridge is much more appealing.
05:08Gracias.
05:10Perfecto. Gracias.
05:11At the moment, the renovation team's main focus inside the house is the kitchen, where the laying of the marble floor tiles has just been finished.
05:22Otherwise, the kitchen is little more than an empty shell.
05:26That kitchen, just no walls, no ceiling.
05:30It is depressing to look at.
05:35But once the plasterboard goes up, then you can start to really visualise how it's going to come together when it's finished.
05:44Walls and ceilings are really important, actually.
05:48Underrated sometimes.
05:49Plasterboarding will give the kitchen a basic shape, but there's a long way to go before it's ready for Jasmine's new units to be installed.
06:02The kitchen is going to be delivered in a week's time.
06:08All of the electrics need to be finished, the plumbing, the plastering, the painting.
06:17I don't know how they're going to do it all in a week.
06:20Apart from hitting the kitchen deadline, Jasmine's also on a mission to give the Sun Terrace a complete makeover.
06:31Originally, the idea was to install solar panels up here, but that would involve big structural changes with a hefty cost attached.
06:40So the plan is on hold for the foreseeable future.
06:43Instead, the terrace has been serving as a utility area.
06:46I was happy for the Sun Terrace upstairs to be somewhere for laundry, because most of the time it would be too hot to sit up there in the sun.
06:56But John was adamant that he really wanted it to be like a lovely, entertaining area.
07:01So the idea up here is to create a really chilled Ibiza kind of vibe with lots of greenery, some nice lighting, lots of natural textures.
07:17I got a roll of wicker fence panels to attach to the wall just to give it a bit more natural texture.
07:27And I think it will be quite a nice backdrop because it is going to be so bright up there.
07:31I think the dark colour will actually just be a little bit less intense on your eyes.
07:38The garden isn't ready. It's still a building site.
07:42So I've got some slight concerns about having a nice usable space for the housewarming party.
07:48So getting the rooftop terrace up to speed and transforming it into somewhere that we can enjoy being outside and entertaining guests is really important.
08:02It's not simply a case of getting the Sun Terrace ready in time.
08:07There's also the matter of budget.
08:08I bought a load of furniture from a friend when we first bought this house.
08:14And one of the things that was in the bundle was a dining table, eight chairs and three sun loungers, all for outside use.
08:26I'm going to have sun loungers over there on that side, obviously minus the washing.
08:32You know, if we're actually lounging up here, I won't have everyone's smalls hanging up.
08:36And then this is a great big area and it could easily fit this big table that we've got.
08:44So the only downside is the table has got a glass top.
08:49So I've asked the guys to see if they think they could get that glass top up here, either up the stairs, which I'm not sure.
08:58It's a very big piece of glass or up the outside of the building.
09:02So we're going to see if we can do that.
09:05Fingers crossed it will work because then I won't have to buy any new furniture for up here.
09:11To help come up with the plan, Jasmine is bringing in head builder Dominic.
09:16We've been looking at various solutions, trying to get it up inside the house.
09:23I don't think it will go up the stairs because of the size of it.
09:26And that would be fine because we can very easily take it up the outside of the building.
09:33If only the table top itself wasn't glass.
09:37Because it's extremely heavy.
09:41Do you think it's possible to unpack it with something?
09:44I think it's possible but risky.
09:46I'll tell you why, because the hardest bit is...
09:48Getting over?
09:49Over the very lip at the top.
09:51One little dink on there.
09:52Yeah, and it will explode.
09:53I think it's easy just to pass it and hope someone grabs it.
09:56Because that's the problem, you're reaching like this and it's quite heavy.
10:00Two guys can actually stand closer to the edge and you've got a hell of a lot more chance than taking it up through.
10:05Okay.
10:07I've wrote as well.
10:08Just in case it's secure.
10:09With the ladder as well.
10:10I don't really have a solution for the table top yet.
10:14We'll do it, don't worry.
10:15Don't worry.
10:35Outside the house, Jasmine and her team have been brainstorming.
10:39And now the lifting of the second hand table to the Sun Terrace can get underway.
10:44The plan that's been devised is to attempt hoisting up the glass top using a rope and pulley system.
10:51So first, one of the builders, Liam, wants to try it out using a wooden pallet as a stand-in.
10:59Yeah, just keep pulling it up, safer that way.
11:02So the guys are just having a little test to see if it's going to be possible.
11:06The tricky part is going to be getting it over those roof tiles which we've got going up the house.
11:11We're trying to figure it out.
11:16This is me trying to be eco-friendly, reusing, recycling stuff that I've already got,
11:20not spending money on new furniture, getting it in place.
11:23But if it's going to take five guys half a day to get it done, then it's not worth it.
11:28The worry is, unlike the pallet, the sheet of glass is heavy, weighing in at nearly 40 kilograms.
11:37Hold on tight, boys.
11:38When you are pulling down on this rope, straight down like that, the pressure's not so bad.
11:44But the trouble is, the ledges on the roof, if the glass hits that, it's just going to shatter.
11:50So we need a second rope to pull it outwards.
11:53Outwards.
11:54And then that's got more pressure, which can cause it to pop out.
11:57On the washing line.
11:58You've got your swimming pool.
12:00Underneath.
12:01Yeah.
12:02I don't want the swimming pool full of glass.
12:03As the team sorts out the extra rope, Dominic directs the lifting of the table frame,
12:10which is being done by hand.
12:12There you go.
12:13Parts it corner to corner.
12:14Right there.
12:15It is.
12:16Yeah.
12:17Because that's the longest reach.
12:18Up you're going.
12:19Got all the tips.
12:20Hey, don't.
12:21Careful of the wall.
12:22Don't watch.
12:23That's a lot lighter than a piece of glass there.
12:25The frame up to the roof terrace was easy.
12:29The guys just sort of handed it to each other from one balcony to the next until it reached
12:33the top.
12:34The glass table top was obviously a completely different scenario.
12:41With the pulley system in place and a second rope to hand, Dominic wants to reassess the
12:46situation himself.
12:48Dominic, I'm not sure.
12:49They'll grab it.
12:50What you've got to watch out for, Ryan, watch that wall.
12:54That's the dodgy pit.
12:56We don't think we can do it.
12:57We won't.
12:58Yeah, because also the neighbours, I don't want them to get their garden showered in glass.
13:02Dominic felt quite confident that we could get it up there safely and he really wanted
13:07to give it a go.
13:08Oh, they're bringing it out.
13:11Come on in, mate.
13:13Just bring it out.
13:14It's heavy.
13:15It's heavy.
13:16Dominic, I...
13:18It's gonna...
13:19Just don't worry about it.
13:21It's all right.
13:22I think it's a crazy idea.
13:23Hold on, let me...
13:25Don't worry about it.
13:27It's too...
13:28It's too risky.
13:29What I like about Dominic is he doesn't let anything beat him.
13:33He's very can-do and I could see he didn't want to let that glass table top beat him.
13:40He's determined, isn't he?
13:42I'm very good at physics, but this one's pretty heavy.
13:45No, but I don't want it to end up in there, everywhere in the pool, do you know what I mean?
13:49I'm gonna go down and tell him.
13:51Because to reach that high, you've got to be holding just the bottom foot.
13:55And that means you've got no control over it.
13:58We'll come up with prototype number two, don't worry.
14:00Do it now.
14:01We have to do it now.
14:02No, no, we'll get some suckers.
14:03No, no, no, no.
14:04I'll get Steve's sucker on it.
14:05You can put it in the skip.
14:06Okay.
14:07I think we're gonna bore.
14:10As much as I wanted to recycle and reuse that table, when we got the glass table top in place,
14:18I think we all realised that it was far too risky and that we'd have to find another solution.
14:27What I'm thinking is that we could maybe just get some wood and create a table top of our own up there.
14:35So we can make a nice easy table out of that.
14:37We'll get some UPVC decking.
14:39Got the frame.
14:40Just cut it like that, trim it and put it on top.
14:42It don't matter.
14:43I'm happy.
14:44That frame has gone up there.
14:46I'll have a look at it.
14:47Yeah, don't worry about it.
14:49Just leave it like that.
14:50There's a lot of excitement but nothing happened.
14:55As well as project managing the renovation, Jasmine is also now single-handedly looking after daughter Joy
15:02and son Albion at home full-time.
15:05We have really tried to minimise the amount of disruption for the kids, which is difficult when you're living on a building site.
15:14And now they're broken up from school and they're at home much more of the time, it's even more difficult because they want to play outside,
15:21they want to go for a swim or they want to have their friends over and all of that is not really possible
15:26because there's just work going on everywhere at the moment.
15:30I mean, at the end of the day, they are very lucky kids.
15:34You know, they've got a lovely life and at the end of this process, they'll have a beautiful home and it will all be worth it.
15:42But it's tough actually for kids to deal with this sort of thing day in, day out.
15:48It's tough for adults as well.
15:51With John still away filming in Wales and so much going on in the house, Jasmine's decided it's time she and the children had a short break.
16:01Hey guys, who wants a pan au chocolat?
16:05Me, me.
16:07Nice holiday treat.
16:09Do you want to come sit up at the table?
16:11The kids and myself are in a lovely little holiday apartment on a resort just down the coast a little way.
16:20I just needed to get out of the house.
16:22It was getting too much, the noise, the dirt, the constant decisions.
16:28I don't think I realised how much it was getting to me until I actually arrived here.
16:33It's nice and quiet here, isn't it, compared to at home.
16:37And then way less dusty.
16:39Way less dusty.
16:40Oh, it's been so nice to be able to chill out, have fun with the kids.
16:47Come on out, babe.
16:48Want a noodle or a ring?
16:50It's Jane.
16:51When we first arrived, I looked out of the window and I saw a pool right outside.
17:02I said, kids, come and look.
17:04And we looked at it and then we just rushed to get our swimming things on and we all piled out and had a lovely swim.
17:10Ready?
17:11Let's throw these in the pool and see if we can jump into the hoops.
17:15I'm going to jump in between there.
17:20Three, two, one.
17:27It's so nice.
17:29It's so relaxing.
17:31I just feel like instead of being at this level of intensity, I've just been able to come down to a normal, even keel where I feel like I can cope again.
17:45Down on the Costa del Sol, while Jasmine and the children are away, the renovation team are working hard in the kitchen to meet their deadline.
18:06One of the jobs on the list is preparing the marble floor tiles for polishing.
18:13Called grinding, this process removes blemishes for a smooth, shiny finish.
18:19And it's a dirty job.
18:21So Dominic was keen to get it out of the way first.
18:24The plan for today was the marble guy is everybody's got to get out and let him do his thing.
18:30But it's all gone a bit peaked on.
18:32The grinder for the floor marble can't come.
18:36Someone's ill.
18:37So now we've got to basically shuffle it all around.
18:40Although it's not ideal, with so much to do in a short space of time, Dominic's cracking on with the next task.
18:49I'm boarding this wall up here in the kitchen rather than lose the day.
18:53I just stabbed my finger.
18:58And the guys are filling, sanding.
19:00It's getting there.
19:01So, loads of little jobs.
19:03Do you want to do a bit of this ceiling, fella?
19:05That's how good are you at balancing boards.
19:07Not great.
19:08Not great.
19:09You can still adjust it later.
19:11Here we go.
19:22From the hotel she's staying in, Jasmine is keeping up to date on the latest developments.
19:27Today, they're plaster boarding the kitchen.
19:31So that is ready for the plasterers to come in.
19:33The plaster needs a few days to dry before we can paint it.
19:37We've only got a week until the kitchen is arriving.
19:43So all of this needs to be done before then.
19:46Hola, Juan.
19:48Her priority is reworking the schedule, starting with rebooking Juan, the marble polisher.
20:10There are a lot of processes that are all dependent on one another.
20:14So I can actually have the head space to do the work that I need to do to get this project across the line.
20:22Just by not being there and doing it remotely.
20:25The problem is the kitchen is being delivered on Wednesday.
20:31Unless he wants to come on the weekend.
20:36I was actually amazed at how productive I was able to be
20:41without people asking me different things every five seconds.
20:45And I was able to focus a lot better.
20:47My to-do list was going down instead of up.
20:56It's now nearing the end of the family's mini break.
20:59So before heading home, they're exploring the nearby seaside town of Cala de Mijas.
21:05Hey, look at that little.
21:08Hola.
21:09Cala de Mijas is a really buzzing place.
21:14It's a very popular holiday resort.
21:18And somewhere that lots of people really enjoy.
21:21There's loads going on.
21:22There's beautiful beach.
21:24You can go and just enjoy feeling like you're on holiday.
21:27Chocolate.
21:28Oh, joy, that looks good.
21:30Yummy.
21:31Mmm.
21:32You can have mango and fresh, please.
21:35This looks yummy.
21:37Because the weather is so warm here, we quite often get an ice cream.
21:43When I think back to my childhood, an ice cream was for only special occasions,
21:48very rarely when the ice cream van came around.
21:51But living here, I think we've been having quite a few ice creams,
21:55but, you know, it'd be rude not to, wouldn't it?
21:57How's yours, kids?
22:00Yummy.
22:01I think.
22:02If I remember rightly from my last visits here,
22:06it was built in around the 1500s.
22:09And it used to be a pirate watchtower.
22:12And there's this funny story about one night a pirate who tried to come ashore.
22:18Instead of shooting him with bows and arrows, they threw like hard loaves of bread at him.
22:25And he ran away.
22:27I can never quite switch off entirely from what's going on back at home
22:32because my phone never stops ringing, pinging and problems and decisions and this, that and the other.
22:38But it is nice to just pretend for a minute that we're on holiday and have a nice little relaxing afternoon.
22:47Do you like it here?
22:48It is very pretty.
22:50It's lovely, isn't it?
22:51I can't believe it's so warm, isn't it? The ice cream's melting so fast.
22:55I think the break was really needed by everyone.
23:01Probably even the builders.
23:03They just could crack on with anything they needed to do.
23:07So yes, for the kids to have fun and be somewhere where they can just relax on their summer holidays.
23:16For me, where I can be less stressed, I think it was as much for them as it was for me.
23:28After her time away off-site, Jasmine is rejoining the build in person.
23:33First, she's checking in with the team working on the kitchen, where plastering has begun.
23:38The ceiling and one wall are already nearly completed.
23:42Oh!
23:44Oh, that's looking good, guys.
23:46God, it's amazing the transformation it makes, isn't it?
23:50So what is the plan?
23:52We'll take a couple of sheets and when we're finished, pop the rest of that wall up there and flatten that as much as we can.
23:59I'm ready for tomorrow and then tomorrow will come that ceiling, that wall, that wall and then bits over there.
24:05Those bits over there?
24:06Yeah.
24:07There are now only three working days left before the new kitchen units arrive.
24:12So to prevent damaging or spoiling them, any job involving plaster, paint or other chemicals must be finished.
24:19That includes prepping the marble floor.
24:22So I'm thinking if the floor polisher guy wants to come, would he be able to start in one area that's not in your way?
24:29I'm not joking, it'd be wasted, it's not as soon as you put plaster, it's going to go in the air and it's going to be all over the floor.
24:36Tom said maybe getting to do it at the weekend on Saturday.
24:38I have to try and figure something out.
24:41I can't delay the kitchen because otherwise I won't get the worktop because they all shut down for the summer.
24:48The kitchen delivery deadline has become all the more important because of another complication that's arisen.
24:55It's vital that the kitchen is ready on schedule because we have got the worktop company coming on the very last day before they close down for the summer.
25:11So if it's not done on that day, we will have to wait until after the summer to get our kitchen worktop.
25:20With a kitchen installation deadline they can't afford to miss, they can't slow down.
25:25But they need to come up with a solution for getting the kitchen tiles polished too.
25:30The kitchen has to come when it's coming. There's no backup plan for that.
25:34Otherwise we completely miss the window of getting the worktop in.
25:38Yeah. He said he can come at the weekend.
25:41Well, happy days then.
25:43But because the marble polisher can work at the weekend while they are off-site, Dominic is having a rethink.
25:50If he comes and does this side and concentrates on this side, then when we come in Monday we're going to be painting, cutting the electric sockets and things like that.
26:00And hopefully he's finished this area and he's over there.
26:04Because it's quite a messy process, that's the problem. There is mess everywhere.
26:07Having the plasterers here at the same time as the floor polisher is not ideal really because they need to be able to have the space available to do their work.
26:20But we're trying to coordinate everything so that they can do one area at a time and then they can swap.
26:28So in that respect, you know, we're finding solutions so that everyone can get their jobs done.
26:35Moving on, next on Chasmin's to-do list is the sun terrace and the dining table.
26:43We decided that we would try and make an alternative tabletop for up here.
26:48To save having to buy a whole new set because all these chairs and the lounges and everything all go together.
26:52So this nice wooden table was able to come up in pieces and be assembled up here.
26:58And it's just a really nice natural wood.
27:01I think it looks even better with a little bit of this varnish on it.
27:04And it will just be really hard wearing and durable.
27:09It's actually quite therapeutic, relaxing this kind of thing.
27:16To be up here and no one talking to me, no decisions to make, just doing this.
27:21You could get quite into DIY.
27:24Better late than never.
27:27It's now been nearly two weeks since Jasmine has been project managing the renovation on her own.
27:40In the kitchen, the time-saving strategy she and Dominic came up with has been put into play.
27:46We've resolved the marble and the plasterers.
27:50They're working together now. Half the front room each.
27:53It's working. They seem relatively happy.
27:56Even today, I didn't know they were going to plaster the whole lot.
28:00So they've gone a little bit extra. So, brilliant.
28:03We will hit the target.
28:06So the kitchen will be able to go in.
28:08The good news continues for Jasmine, with John's time away filming in Wales finally coming to an end.
28:16I find it really difficult now being away for work.
28:19And I sort of hate leaving Jazz and the kids and leaving Jazz with everything to do at the house.
28:25The plus side is to get home and sort of see the fruit of Jazz's hard work and stress is amazing.
28:32And it is energising.
28:34You kind of come home and you see what has changed at the house.
28:38There's just so much going on that it's hard to keep on top of everything on my own.
28:44So having John back is a huge help.
28:47And it's also so nice to be able to have family time.
28:52You know, I think that's what keeps us going in between the highs and lows of the whole renovation project is when we can get together and do things as a family.
29:03So before returning to the renovation, John's joining Jasmine and the children with one of their friends on a visit to a local dog rescue centre, which as dog owners themselves, they're keen to support.
29:17We're all animal lovers, although I have to say, I'm slightly nervous that the kids are going to want to take another dog home.
29:24It's not the right time for us because we're living on construction sites right now.
29:30Joy's friend Asha is tagging along with us as well.
29:34The kids are just desperate to come and walk the dogs.
29:38Even though they're not adopting right now, the family have offered their help to exercise the dogs on a voluntary basis.
29:46Welcoming them is the rescue centre's president, Susie.
29:49Would you like to see a new puppy that's just arrived?
29:52Yeah.
29:53Yeah?
29:54Carlos, we'll take you in there.
29:55We'll catch up with you in a moment.
29:56Lovely.
29:57So how long have you been running this place?
30:00About three years.
30:01But I've been a volunteer here for about 23 years.
30:04Really?
30:05Yeah.
30:06How long's the charity been going?
30:0733 years.
30:0833 years?
30:0933 years.
30:10How many dogs have you got in there, Susie?
30:12We've got about 150 at the moment.
30:13150?
30:14Yes.
30:15And so the dogs come from mainly the streets?
30:18Dogs that are found on the streets?
30:19Yeah, all the dogs here, all but a few, are just abandoned.
30:22We find them hanging on trees, we find them in rubbish bins, we find them in sacks and things like that.
30:27We never put a dog to sleep unless it's terminally ill and we can't do another thing about it.
30:32And believe me, we bend over backwards to make these dogs better.
30:35If a family like ours wanted to adopt a dog, what's the criteria? What do you look for in a family?
30:39Well, we always ask you to come and see the dogs first.
30:42I would say half of the time the dog you think you want in your head isn't the dog you really need.
30:47Yeah.
30:48So it's always better to come here, meet the dog, take them for a walk, then you can get to see the personality.
30:52Then you'll see, oh, that is the dog for us.
30:55They're new arrivals.
31:01These dogs are being kept separate from the others so they can be put on a controlled diet to feed them back up to a healthy weight.
31:08Oh, they're super hungry.
31:10The problem is their tummies will just be tiny because they're not used to eating so we can only give them little bits at a time.
31:17Go on, baby.
31:18We're going to rehabilitate these, we're going to get them well and we're going to find new homes for them.
31:23And when you've done that it makes everything all worthwhile at the end of it.
31:27Yeah, yeah.
31:28Yeah, it's amazing work that you do.
31:30We're proud of it.
31:32Because we can see the transformation, I know.
31:36I know.
31:37Have you got it?
31:39Yeah.
31:44How did you get on with your letter?
31:45To get a taste of what it's like being a voluntary dog walker, Jasmine and John have been paired up with two of the centre's residents.
31:52Clancy and Summer.
31:56He's a good boy.
31:57Yes.
31:59Summer.
32:00Summer's such a pretty name.
32:15He's happy.
32:19Oh, look at you.
32:20Yes.
32:21The dogs love the water, especially on a hot day like this.
32:24You're cooling off a little bit.
32:25Living your best life.
32:26Ah!
32:28Now you've given me a little shower.
32:30I think the dogs are ready now to head back.
32:34There were two lovely dogs that were just sweet-natured.
32:40I just need someone to give them some TLC.
32:44Muncher.
32:45No, Muncher.
32:47There's a dog in there called Munch, and annoyingly has slightly stolen my heart.
32:54Do you need someone to rescue you?
32:55Going into the evening, I should be thinking about what we're doing for the renovation tomorrow, but I'll probably be thinking about what Munch is doing here and how much Munch would benefit from a loving family like ours.
33:07But I'm not sure the house is ready for another big dog yet.
33:10There's 150 dogs or so in there, all looking for a home.
33:14You know, it's quite upsetting to see them all, every single one of them, you know, looking at you like, pick me, pick me, pick me.
33:28These wonderful people are picking up the pieces of all these poor dogs that someone else has abandoned or abused.
33:34I'm glad we came and I think we'll come back again.
33:55The summer sun is shining on the Costa del Sol and it's a big day for Jasmine and the renovation team.
34:01The new kitchen units are arriving and inside everything is primed for their installation.
34:08Seeing the space where the kitchen is going to go now, it's all been painted and it's starting to look more like a liveable space.
34:17It's great and the kitchen's been delivered.
34:20I think it's going to look amazing. I can't wait to get it installed.
34:25So it seems like everything is falling into place.
34:31Is that the whole kitchen?
34:32No, there's still more coming.
34:34Oh, look, the tall columns just fit.
34:37It's so nice to see the kitchen coming together because at one point, when they ripped it all out, there was no floor.
34:45There was no walls and no ceiling and it was kind of terrifying, but step by step, everything is coming together and being put in place.
35:00Very exciting. It looks beautiful. It's almost better than I remember. Now I see it here in the house. The handles are lovely. The colour is absolutely gorgeous.
35:14I'm really looking forward to having a functional dishwasher again because we haven't got one downstairs in the basement kitchenette. And yeah, I can't wait. I love my dishwasher.
35:28The day also marks an achievement for Dominic and his builders. They've taken an empty shell and constructed new walls and a ceiling all plastered and painted within a week.
35:38We've hit the kitchen target, which was great. Bit of stress, a little bit of stress. So it's all ready to go for them. We still got the splash backs, the painting, the decorating, final touches, bits of skirting board.
35:55They're all little jobs, but because they're finishing jobs, they're quite slow and quite, you know, it's got to look perfect. So, you know, we're getting there.
36:07However, the pressure has now shifted onto the kitchen installers to keep to schedule.
36:12The plan is that over the next two days they are going to fit the kitchen and the kitchen fitters have to finish the kitchen on time because
36:24the worktop company's final day for measuring is in two days. So they have to do it then in order for us to get the worktop fitted before they go off on their break. So there's no margin for error at all.
36:43With the worktop company's holiday deadline in mind, Jasmine brings in kitchen designer Rebecca to run her installation team herself.
36:53All the furniture's here. As you can see, they arrive already assembled. The guys are here now working. And I've just been through with them the design.
37:03So there's no question about what's on the plan and what's not on the plan. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly. I'm sure it will. Everything seems to be as it should be. And tomorrow will be finished.
37:14I'm kind of entrusting everything to the kitchen fitters and hoping they get it all right. There's no reason why they shouldn't get it right because I've been through it enough times with Rebecca and she's very meticulous.
37:29Leaving the kitchen installation to the person best placed to manage the process, Jasmine enlists John's help to focus on another key area of the build, the top sun terrace, which they need to have finished in time for their housewarming party.
37:45With some guests coming in a few weeks, it's going to be really nice to have the sun terrace finished because the house is south facing. I've always envisaged that once the sun is off the garden, we'll spend the evenings with the last bit of sun on the roof.
37:58We've had some guests in the past, and I've slightly always hankered that we could take them up there for an evening drink. But now I feel like the space, I feel like we're proud enough of that space to sit and happily have some drinks in the evening.
38:11It was originally John's idea to transform part of the sun terrace into an Ibiza style lounge stroke chill out zone. But in his absence, Jasmine's been making the design decisions.
38:24It's yet another delivery to our house. I mean, I don't really order much. I can't keep up with how much stuff Jazz has ordered that's arriving at the moment. I dare look at our bank account.
38:37I keep seeing boxes around the house. I'm like, what is that? What's that for? Why is that? Oh, these are much smaller than I was hoping for. Anyway, never mind.
38:47Where's the end? Coming off, coming off. This is a mess, isn't it? Put it on here and untangle it first. Look. Oh, my God.
38:59Who's idea was it's about 100 feet of lights? And then they're all tangled up. This is a disaster.
39:08Surely they should have opened up easier than this. This is going so badly. I mean, it's fine rolling out the lights. We haven't actually got the, we haven't actually put the post up yet to hang them on.
39:21It's not long until another one of Jasmine's purchases arrives. To fit in with the bamboo covering she's put up on the wall, she's chosen soft furnishings with a similar beach club vibe.
39:43Oh, look at that. They just expand. Two in each. Yes, that's eight. Yeah, they don't vacuum back. That's satisfying opening this.
39:51That is so satisfying. They look nice. This house needs storage just for Jaz's cushions. I have gone a bit overboard with cushions.
40:00It's starting to shape up up here, isn't it? Yeah, it's good.
40:04Having our roof terrace as a usable space, not just for laundry. It will be really nice. It's just such a lovely spot. Beautiful views of the mountains and all the surrounding greenery. So, yeah, I'm really happy.
40:22Downstairs in the kitchen, work is progressing rapidly. And after a day with no hitches, the fitters have downed tools. So, Jasmine and John are taking a sneak preview of the units that were once the showroom's display model.
40:41Oh, my gosh. It is better. I love it. Look at that. Oh! Oh, it looks so nice. Do you like it? It's awesome. Yeah, I like it. It really looks better in our house than it did in the showroom.
40:58It's way better than it did in the showroom. Oh, it looks so nice. All that's missing is the worktop.
41:07It feels like quite a long time ago that we were looking around kitchen showrooms. I vaguely remember being on crutches and probably not paying quite as much attention as I should do.
41:16So, I had forgotten what the kitchen really looked like. So, when the units had been fitted and we were sort of 70% there, it was impressive. It looked good. I was like, wow, we made the right decision.
41:28The colour is amazing. It's beautiful. I absolutely like it.
41:34It looks like the kitchen should be on target. While up on the Sun Terrace, Jasmine and John's creation has finally come together.
41:46It's not bad, is it, out here. I mean, you could make so much more of it. Be careful because it's full of dirty water. Oh, God.
41:59Now, after adding a few finishing touches, it's time to find out if it meets expectations.
42:05And you took out the washing line. I've always championed this roof, Terry.
42:17Yes.
42:18You were always like, we'll never use it. It'll be too hot.
42:21No, we'll use it every single day for hanging out laundry. But you had that clever idea of the quick-release washing line. So, you're not just a pretty face, are you?
42:31This is one of my favourite spaces in the house. And I know that it's the one we've spent the least money on, but that makes it slightly more satisfying.
42:41Yeah, exactly. I want to reuse all the old lounges that we got second-hand with that bundle of furniture and the table and eight chairs. They're all perfectly all right. Just new cushions.
42:54Upside from the table is a stroke of genius.
42:57The wooden tabletop, I think, looks nice and rustic. I'm actually really happy to be able to reuse the stuff that we already had and it still looks nice.
43:10I love a fairy line of festoon. I still think I could sneak some more in here in the next few weeks.
43:14Oh, knock yourself out.
43:17Whatever floats your boat.
43:20Actually, I think from the initial idea that you had, you wanted to make it, like, chill out Ibiza. And I was like, no, we'll never use it. Let's just keep it as a laundry area.
43:30It's kind of a happy medium, isn't it?
43:32Yeah.
43:33Because it's lovely.
43:35But we can still, it can still be practical.
43:39Laundry.
43:40I sound like I'm obsessed with laundry.
43:42I mean...
43:43But, yeah.
43:44Well, I'll openly admit that the speed at which you could dry clothes up here is amazing, but this is way better.
43:50Well done.
43:51Well done, you.
43:52It would just be a laundry area if it was down to me, so it's good.
43:56That's leprechaun green.
43:57Beautiful colour. I love the colour.
43:58Please, though, I share it, but...
43:59But, yeah, it's not. It's too bright. Intensity at the moment, so close to the end, is ridiculous.
44:17Well, if he doesn't do it on Thursday, it won't be done in time.
44:21No.
44:22Why?
44:23Because he's only got Thursday in front, he's pushing it already.
44:26I'm just having to leave it all in John's hands. I don't... It just couldn't be worse timing, really.
44:34If we can do it, it'll be fine.
44:38I think it's pretty touch and go as to whether everything will be finished on time for the housewarming party.
44:46It's too close to call.
44:47That's really cool.
