00:00I'm Tom Morris, Jr., and this is Fugitive's Caught on Taping.
00:27Let's get into it.
00:28This guy has no regard for anybody else on the road.
00:34Let's go!
00:36Stop the car!
00:37Stop the car!
00:38Get out of here, I'm not.
00:41Let's go, I'm moving!
00:42Let's go, I'm moving!
00:44Search every town who's on the ground.
00:47Let's go, let's go!
00:48Let's go, let's go!
00:49Let's go, let's go!
00:51Let's go, let's go, let's go!
00:54Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go!
00:57First up, we're in Wood County, Ohio, where state troopers are in pursuit of two fugitives
01:03wanted for armed robbery and homicide.
01:06Paul Green, they're pointing a gun.
01:09They just shot at me.
01:10Earlier, local PD in Monroe, Michigan got a 911 call about a shooting.
01:16According to police, two suspects entered a corner store and robbed the clerk at gunpoint.
01:22Once outside, they shot two men at point-blank range before carjacking their truck and fleeing the scene.
01:31One of the shooting victims, a 34-year-old male, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
01:37He's since recovered, but the other victim, 31-year-old Michael Ronald Beck Jr., died at the scene.
01:44Police collected security camera images of the suspects and shared them with neighboring jurisdictions in Michigan and Ohio.
01:52And about four hours later, state troopers, along with deputies from the Wood County Sheriff's Office,
01:59spotted a vehicle that fit the description of the stolen truck at a rest area near Bowling Green, Ohio.
02:06Several troopers approached the truck from behind, while another took up position at the rest stop's highway entrance ramp.
02:13I do not have a good angle here.
02:15We need to move.
02:17We need a white man out of the driver's seat.
02:20They're starting the vehicle.
02:23Troopers quickly moved in as the driver put the truck in gear.
02:27Police, stop!
02:29Stop!
02:30We're taking off! We're taking off!
02:32The truck pulled out of the rest stop and, shockingly, headed right for the trooper's vehicle,
02:37turning away at the last possible second.
02:39We're just trying to take it off on the rest area.
02:42Southbound!
02:42Now, as they drive recklessly and brandish a weapon...
02:56No, he's got a gun out the window.
02:59This trooper looks to make a move.
03:03Who's giving me permission to take him out?
03:071844, guys.
03:08No, I'm not.
03:09At what speeds?
03:11At this point, it does not matter.
03:13As long as you've got a unit close to you for backup, take them out.
03:15But as he moves in to attempt a pit maneuver, the driver fires at the trooper...
03:28...and he temporarily loses control of his cruiser.
03:34116.
03:36Wondering, I crashed out. I'm catching up.
03:40725, check up. You okay?
03:43Oh, yeah. Just, you know, a little spin out. I'm coming.
03:46The trooper quickly rejoins the chase and, once again, takes the lead.
03:511844, unless they got permission to take him out.
03:54I know he's shooting at me, though.
04:01He's shooting at me.
04:03He's not shot at me again.
04:06The fugitives managed to exit the highway and then, suddenly, come to a complete stop.
04:12We're stopped at the...
04:13That's fire.
04:20Troopers fire at the suspects, who take off again, back toward the highway.
04:28We're back on the on-ramp.
04:31But the suspects never get back on the road.
04:34Instead, continuing to drive on the grassy shoulder.
04:38Crashing out.
04:39He's still in the ditch.
04:41Still in the ditch.
04:42Like it's stuck here.
04:43Eventually, the terrain becomes too much for the stolen truck to navigate.
04:52Crashing out.
04:54Watch out.
04:55As the disabled vehicle comes to a stop, law enforcement officers surround the crash site.
05:01Not a truck. 240, 240, 240.
05:04Show me your hands right now!
05:05Because the suspects are armed, troopers hold their positions.
05:10And before long, day turns into night.
05:14Eventually, the passenger begins to comply with the officer's commands.
05:19Stephen, we need to see both your hands.
05:21Both your hands.
05:22Hands up.
05:22Hands up.
05:23Hands up.
05:23Cuff them.
05:24Cuff them.
05:24Search them.
05:24Cuff them.
05:25Search them.
05:26Hey, someone get a flashlight on them.
05:29Visible.
05:29Make sure there's no guns.
05:30Once he's cuffed, officers with shields move in on the truck.
05:36Stop moving.
05:37Stop moving.
05:38Stop moving.
05:39Stop moving.
05:40Get out of the car.
05:43Help, help, help, help, help.
05:45Get out of the car.
05:49I got it.
05:50I got it.
05:50You got it?
05:51The suspects were ID'd as 29-year-old Stephen Jones, the driver, and 44-year-old Ronnie Lee Oliver, the passenger.
06:02They were both extradited back to Michigan and charged with homicide, armed robbery, carjacking, and assault with intent to murder.
06:11Jones pled guilty to all charges and was sentenced to 40 to 82 years in prison.
06:17His earliest possible release is in 2065, when he'll be 71 years old.
06:24Oliver, who'd previously served 20 years in prison for robbery, pled not guilty, and his case is pending.
06:34Next, we're in Sebastian County, Arkansas, where state troopers are in pursuit of a suspect wanted for violating his probation who just fled from deputies
06:44and is now driving recklessly through local streets.
06:48Earlier, 47-year-old David Bruce, who was known by officers to have an active felony warrant for violating his probation conditions in a drug possession case,
06:58was spotted by a task force agent from the prosecutor's office and then pulled over by Sebastian County Corporal Joseph Mahan.
07:06Another deputy arrived to assist.
07:09During the stop, a state trooper, Corporal Jonathan Bass, arrived as additional backup.
07:27But just as Corporal Bass rolled forward to get a closer look...
07:33Keep your hand off the shifter, hey!
07:35Hey!
07:36He took off, he took off, he took off, he took off, he took off.
07:37The suspect took off, and the corporal took lead position for the pursuit.
07:44Seconds later, Corporal Matthew Price and his canine partner Rick see the fugitive's car heading directly toward them and join the pursuit.
07:53I'm going to jump in here behind me.
07:54Now, Corporal Price and a third trooper join Corporal Bass and two other deputies in the chase, as the suspect begins to drive erratically.
08:04We're still northbound, coming up to 71. Stand by, let's know which way we're going.
08:09As the driver approaches a busy intersection, he blows through a red light and makes a left turn.
08:16Corporal Bass cuts through two cars at the light to keep pace with the fugitive, who then begins driving on the opposite side of the road.
08:26We're passing in, Wendy.
08:28As the chase continues, the suspect suddenly makes this unusual move.
08:36We're turning in, village, south apartment.
08:38The suspect enters an apartment complex and drives into a vacant dirt lot in the back of the property.
08:46The troopers follow him.
08:50Corporal Price circles around these storage units in an attempt to cut the fugitive off, while Corporal Bass moves in to try a pit maneuver.
09:10The suspect seems to be blocked in, but he isn't giving up.
09:15When he refuses to exit the vehicle, Corporal Price and K-9 Rick move in.
09:31As Corporal Price gets his hand on the window, the suspect tries to raise it.
09:41So then, the trooper smashes the window with his bare hand, then lifts K-9 Rick into the vehicle,
09:48while Trooper Bass uses his baton to smash the passenger window.
09:53Corporal Price runs around to the other side of the vehicle to retrieve his dog.
10:13After being bitten by K-9 Rick, the suspect finally decides to surrender.
10:24Get out!
10:25Straight to the ground!
10:26Go straight to the ground!
10:27Get on the ground!
10:28The trooper uses a taser probe on the suspect, and he's taken into custody.
10:35I need to pay attention and listen next time.
10:38I was, buddy.
10:39No, you were not.
10:40Obviously, you weren't.
10:41You had the option to pull over.
10:43Shut your mouth.
10:44I understand that, but guess what?
10:45I'm done.
10:46I'm stopped now.
10:47You're right.
10:47You're stopped, because we had to ram you three different times.
10:50Man, you almost hit a bunch of cars.
10:54He was rolling the window up and rolling my fingers up the window.
10:58Bruce, who was already on probation for possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia,
11:11theft of property, and criminal mischief, was arrested and charged with battery, resisting
11:16arrest, and felony fleeing a vehicle with substantial danger of death.
11:21He later pled guilty to all three charges and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
11:26He'll be eligible for parole after serving 11 years, when he'll be 57 years old.
11:33No officers were injured during the incident, including K-9 Rick.
11:40Next, we're in Tampa, Florida, where state troopers are pursuing a DUI suspect who they
11:46say stole an ambulance and is now driving dangerously.
11:50You got to get him to stop as soon as you can.
11:52Earlier, around 8.30 p.m., Florida Highway Patrol got a report that a Tampa Fire Department
11:59ambulance had been stolen from a local hospital.
12:04Within 10 minutes, two troopers spotted the vehicle as it drove toward them on this street.
12:10Both troopers made U-turns and attempted a traffic stop.
12:14The suspect speeds off and proceeds to blow through several stop signs.
12:40Then makes a left turn onto a dusty road, creating tough pursuit conditions for the officers.
12:54And as he approaches this main road, he blows through another stop sign and nearly T-bones
13:01a local driver.
13:02You got to get him to stop as soon as you can.
13:08The putative's driving becomes even more dangerous as he weaves in and out of the opposite lane,
13:16nearly slamming into this car.
13:20Suddenly, the driver makes a right turn and pulls over.
13:27Coming to a stop.
13:29Coming to a stop.
13:30Coming to a stop.
13:31Turn it off!
13:33Turn it off!
13:35Put your hands up!
13:37Hands up!
13:38Hands up!
13:39Hands up!
13:40Hands up!
13:41Hands up!
13:42You gotta drink it into big street!
13:43Come on!
13:44You gotta drink it into big street!
13:45You gotta drink it up!
13:46You gotta drink it in big street!
13:50As the troopers try to get the suspect to raise both of his hands, they realize he's
13:54using one of them to drink a can of beer.
13:56When he doesn't comply, troopers make their move.
14:07As additional troopers and Tampa PD arrive to assist,
14:14this officer jumps in the cab to stop the ambulance from rolling backwards.
14:24While another confiscates the suspect's beverage.
14:37The driver was identified as 43-year-old Michael Eskalen.
14:42Eskalen had three prior DUIs and multiple driving with suspended license convictions on his record.
14:49He told officers that he was at the hospital after drinking for two days,
14:54and when the Tampa Fire Department wouldn't give him a ride home,
14:57he decided to take the ambulance and drive himself.
15:01He was charged with burglary of an emergency vehicle,
15:04fleeing, eluding, DUI, driving while license revoked,
15:09habitual offender, resisting an officer, and other charges.
15:13He pled guilty to all charges and was sentenced to five years in prison
15:18with 151 days credit for time served,
15:21to be followed by 24 months community control and probation.
15:26Next, we're in Hobbs, New Mexico.
15:36Her police are in pursuit of a man who broke into an airplane,
15:40then stole a vehicle from the local airport.
15:43Earlier, around 9.45pm,
15:46Hobbs PD received a call about a suspicious individual
15:50trespassing at the Lee County Regional Airport, which was closed.
15:54Security cameras captured this footage of the man using a baggage trailer to break into an airplane.
16:01The suspect left the aircraft empty-handed,
16:06but then used the baggage trailer to smash through a glass wall
16:11and into the terminal before taking off.
16:14Now, Sergeant Royal Hopper is first to spot the trailer on a local road.
16:21He went out in the airport and stole one of their, like, luggage cards.
16:24The sergeant quickly flips a U-turn and attempts a traffic stop.
16:28The suspect acknowledges Sergeant Hopper with a wave, but refuses to pull over.
16:35As the officers try to figure out their next move, the suspect keeps going.
16:43And decides to document the chase by pulling out his phone and recording himself.
16:55As the slow speed pursuit continues, Sergeant Hopper seems to become frustrated.
17:00I just didn't know if we had any other options if it was just to follow him at 10 miles an hour.
17:05I know we can't pit him. I know we can't tase him.
17:08I almost want to just jump out and run beside him and grab his ass.
17:13Pull over.
17:15Moments later, when the suspect goes to make a turn right in front of him...
17:18Stop the vehicle. Stop it.
17:21Sergeant Hopper decides to take his own advice.
17:32Sergeant Hopper charges at the suspect, who resists by kicking him.
17:38A struggle ensues, and Hopper grabs the suspect around the head.
17:44As Officer Olnick arrives for backup, Sergeant Hopper tosses the suspect to the ground.
17:58Additional officers arrive to assist, but the suspect continues resisting.
18:02And the situation becomes even more intense.
18:05He's trying to get my gun.
18:08I'm trying to get my gun!
18:09I'm trying to chase him!
18:10Take him!
18:11Hit him!
18:13Stop resisting!
18:14Stop resisting!
18:15Give us your hands now!
18:16Give us your hands now!
18:17Give us your hands!
18:18Now!
18:19Give us your hands, now!
18:21Give us your hands now!
18:23Give us your hands!
18:24Now!
18:26Eventually, they get the suspect in cuffs...
18:28He's detained right now.
18:29But he continues to act out...
18:31Hey!
18:32Uh-uh!
18:33No problem.
18:34You need to calm down.
18:35You're fine.
18:40You're fine.
18:41Nobody is hitting anything right now.
18:42It's done.
18:44Knock it off.
18:45You understand.
18:46Stay calm, bud.
18:48Stay calm.
18:49No, no, no, no.
18:50Ah, stay calm.
18:51During the struggle, Sergeant Hopper was accidentally hit by the taser, but he appears uninjured.
18:58Sergeant, are you okay?
19:00Yeah, I'm good.
19:00I'm sorry, brother.
19:01It's all right, man.
19:03I do that for fun, so it's all good.
19:05What's your name?
19:06How about that?
19:06Sebastian Rios.
19:07We're going to try and sit you up.
19:09Don't be crazy.
19:10Okay?
19:10I'm about to go to jail.
19:12Sounds a lot like that.
19:12I can go to jail.
19:13I don't care.
19:14Yeah, you have to go to jail.
19:15That kind of goes with that.
19:16The suspect, ID'd as 32-year-old Sebastian Rios Sierra, refused medical treatment and was taken to jail.
19:24For his actions during the pursuit, Rios Sierra was charged with aggravated assault upon a peace officer,
19:31resisting, evading, or obstructing an officer, and other charges.
19:36But he accepted a deal pleading guilty to one count of aggravated assault upon a peace officer,
19:43and the other charges were dismissed.
19:44Rios Sierra was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended, and put on supervised probation for 18 months.
19:52For breaking into the airport, he was charged with larceny, two counts of criminal damage to property, and burglary of a vehicle.
20:00He has yet to enter a plea, and that case is pending.
20:04Thanks for watching Fugitives Caught on Tape.
20:07Spread the word.
