Figures released last week show that half of all jobs lost from company payrolls since Labour came into government have been among the under-25s. Report by Jonesia. 00:00Why are so many young people at the moment out of work or struggling to find work?
00:06The number of young people in our country who are not in education, employment or training is far too high
00:11and that's why we're taking action on school attendance because we know that if children drop out of school
00:15and aren't there regularly, that does then feed through into the numbers of children longer term
00:20who aren't in employment or training. We've launched our youth guarantee to support young people back into work
00:25and alongside that the changes we're making to the curriculum system and also new apprenticeship routes
00:30will provide young people with more opportunities to be in work, to learn and to make a contribution
00:34but this is a really big challenge that we've inherited and we're determined to grasp it.
