00:00Everything you can for your family and friends.
00:03And we see where you've been living.
00:05That kitchen's had nothing done to it since World War II.
00:09We know times are tough.
00:11For too many hard-working Aussies,
00:13it means putting your dream home on hold.
00:15I had plans for it, but it just never happened.
00:18And that's where we come in.
00:22We are back.
00:24Hey, Norm. Over.
00:25Any guy for his in-birth? Over.
00:27Bigger than ever.
00:28More battlers.
00:30More renovations.
00:33And more money.
00:35There's no more money, Norm.
00:39We are rolling up our sleeves
00:40to prove that big transformations don't need big bucks.
00:44I got it on Facebook Marketplace.
00:45She wanted $250, got it out of $200.
00:49We've got just five days
00:50and $10,000.
00:53Renaults aren't just for the rich.
00:56To give deserving Aussies a home.
00:58Look, spies!
00:59This is beautiful.
01:01That they could be proud of.
01:07Oh, no way!
01:10You've got to make me comfortable for the rest of my law.
01:14This is Budget Battlers.
01:16Oh, no, we're crying already.
01:17We haven't even said anything.
01:20Tonight...
01:21The Budget Battler team tackle inside...
01:24Eight people living in this house with one shower.
01:27Outside...
01:28Hey, buddy.
01:29What's happening?
01:30A shed.
01:31A caravan.
01:32Oh!
01:32Oh, yes, guys!
01:34How beautiful!
01:36In a makeover that makes a family smile again.
01:39Thank you so much.
01:40This is Budget Battlers.
01:56This is Dave and Jen.
01:57I've been married to this lovely lady for 38 years.
02:03She bought me a drink at the club.
02:04I picked him up.
02:09Yeah, she picked me up and I was a local footballer and so it'd be.
02:13I never went home.
02:14That's about right.
02:17That's about right, yeah.
02:20And from that one drink at the local club, Galua and Milk, I believe, this is what they've
02:25created.
02:27This is the Trotter family.
02:29Dave and Jen, their two sons, Jake and Josh, their partners and their two grandkids with
02:36another on the way.
02:37Our kids have lived with us all our time.
02:40They've brought their partners in and now we've got our grandkids.
02:44They've got their own spaces and we've got our space.
02:47But having all your family together, to me, is number one.
02:54They all live together on a property on Jones Island, just out of Taree on the Manning River
02:59in New South Wales.
03:00When we bought this place, we fell in love with it, didn't we?
03:03Yeah.
03:03We bought this a bit over two years ago and because it's on the river, it was awesome.
03:08And these guys are just crazy bad fishermen.
03:12Every afternoon, Josh and Levi, who's the six-year-old grandson, he would take him down
03:17the back to the river and they'd fish and David would tag along as well, which was pretty
03:21cool.
03:21We had my son, my grandson.
03:23Yeah, it was pretty cool.
03:24Living the green, basically, yeah.
03:27In March this year, it started raining and it didn't stop.
03:32We had three days of constant rain.
03:36When there's rain on the coast and in the catchment areas, it's all got to come down.
03:40It can't go anywhere.
03:41So we just went up rather than out to sea.
03:45So, yeah, it was just basically a perfect storm.
03:48Not perfect for us.
03:49Not perfect for us.
03:50No, it was a tragedy for us.
03:52Yeah, yeah.
03:53But as in flood-wise, yeah, it was a perfect storm.
03:58Taree, which is around three and a half hours north of Sydney, is right now experiencing
04:03its worst flooding event on record.
04:05The Manning River at Taree has now reached levels never seen before, Ali, since those
04:10records began back in 1929.
04:12This flood emergency, particularly in that region, is now proving to be even worse than
04:16those record-breaking floods that we saw back in 2021.
04:20The floods are the most surreal things you've ever dealt with.
04:25The water just comes up and you think, all of a sudden you've got nowhere to get out.
04:30You know?
04:31So then it's just like, we've got to get out ourselves.
04:35So we're lucky we had a couple of boats.
04:38Josh, our youngest, he's waded like up in, you know, chest-deep water to come over and
04:43get a boat.
04:44It was a small tinny so he could get it close to the house.
04:47You know, there's six adults, two young kids, four dogs, and we couldn't leave anyone, so...
04:54We climbed over the veranda of the house to actually get into the little boat, how high
04:58it was.
04:59Seeing the river the way it was, and the cattle and...
05:03Merwin and Karen on sort of thing going down the river, and you knew they didn't have
05:07a chance.
05:08Yeah.
05:09Yeah, where they...
05:10It was heartbreaking.
05:11Oh, it was very heartbreaking.
05:12It was just like a... nearly a nightmare, but, you know, it happened.
05:17The flood couldn't have come at a worse time for Dave and his family.
05:23My father passed two weeks before the flood, which was a really bad way to go into the flood.
05:32I was still trying to grieve, and the flood didn't come at a good time.
05:37We still hadn't organised anything for him.
05:42Yeah, Liz and my dad was pretty hard.
05:45And it's still pretty hard.
05:47We lost basically everything in the house, everything that was touching the ground.
05:54So all of our appliances, we lost our lounges, beds.
06:00All my power tools, everything, all my hand tools, everything like that, are just...
06:04Yeah, it's either just mud effect that floated away.
06:09The family are known in the community for always helping out others, and now it's their turn.
06:14We don't feel that we deserve it.
06:17It's like...
06:17No.
06:18It's hard to think that people want to do this.
06:20That's right.
06:21It's just...
06:21Yeah, it's hard for us to take.
06:23Because we're usually...
06:24We've always done everything for ourselves.
06:25We don't like to ask for...
06:26No, don't ask.
06:27No, we don't ask for help.
06:28People usually ask us for help.
06:31Well, here on Budget Battlers, we like to help the ones who never ask for it.
06:35Coming up from the river this time, it's not flood, water and fear.
06:40It's the Budget Battler Group.
06:42Here to help and rebuild a home and a family, so they can get back to what they do best,
06:47being together and casting a line or two.
06:50Can't put it into words.
06:52No.
06:52Right.
06:54What it means to us.
06:55Yeah.
06:59You know, I like having people like yourselves and that to come and help.
07:04To do this.
07:05Yeah.
07:06Darling people, what you give back to everyone else is just out of this world.
07:13We are so privileged to be here today because what you've been through and what you've seen
07:17in the last couple of months, I don't know how you're still standing, being selfless
07:22and still being kind.
07:23And that's what being a battler is all about, is it's giving back in your lowest of times
07:28and not thinking about yourself.
07:29And sometimes that's got to come back to you.
07:32I'm sure you've been asked a million and one times.
07:34But are you okay?
07:37Yeah.
07:38We're okay.
07:39Sort of battlers safe.
07:40Yeah.
07:41We're getting to that.
07:42Keep soldiering on.
07:43We're doing it together.
07:44Yeah.
07:45Thank you for doing what you do for people in the community.
07:48And when the lowest was low, you're out there helping everybody else.
07:51And so we would like to let you know what it feels like to have people like you as friends
07:57and take over from your role and do something for you guys for the next five days.
08:03We may not have the biggest budgets, but these guys here, I've seen them in action and I've
08:10seen what they've done to people's lives and they have the biggest bloody hearts.
08:14And that's something that you can't buy at a shop.
08:16We're hoping that you come in in five days' time and actually see the love that's gone
08:21into this joint.
08:21Not just from us, but everyone around this area and this community.
08:26So we're looking forward to hooking in and finishing off what you've already started.
08:33We really appreciate it.
08:35Oh, you can't believe you're doing it for us.
08:37No.
08:39So would you mind?
08:40We would love you to come.
08:40We would love you to come.
08:41You'll be oldie!
08:43Unbelievable.
08:47Unbelievable to have people turn up that we don't know to do this sort of stuff.
08:52Yes.
08:52Isn't it?
08:53Yep.
08:54It's unreal.
08:56Very grateful.
08:57Very, very grateful.
08:59This doesn't sound very glamorous, but it's a budget battle away, but I've booked you an
09:02Airbnb in town.
09:05Loving it.
09:06I know it's not SeaWorld Resort, but if you do want to go to SeaWorld Resort or something,
09:10I'll just say, I've got a credit card.
09:12It's 55 days interest-free.
09:14I'll get it done.
09:15We've seen enough water.
09:16Oh, my God!
09:19Good day, man.
09:20No more water.
09:22No more water.
09:33This week on Budget Battlers, we're in Jones Island, just out of Taree.
09:37Six months ago, floods ripped through this place.
09:43Taree is right now experiencing its worst flooding event on record.
09:48Destroying everything in its path, including the home of Dave and Jen.
09:52The local community have done a lot to start up the clean-up process, but we're here to finish
09:59it off and help them get their livelihood back.
10:02You can feel when people are hurting, and we're in a beautiful position where we can do
10:07something to make them feel better.
10:08Our mates at Storage King are once again on board, helping our homeowners stash away what
10:15little they've got left while we give this place the full makeover it deserves.
10:19Here's the plan.
10:22We want to clean up all the remaining mud and debris and give every room and space a spruce
10:27up.
10:27But the areas that will have the main focus are the front yard, which is the first thing
10:31you see when you drive up, the bathroom, and the one which is going to put a smile back
10:36on Dave's face, the shed.
10:39In the front yard, we're going to clear out the garden beds, add a fence and some turf.
10:43In the bathroom, we're going to make it way bigger, add a shower and fancy it up with
10:48a feature wall.
10:49And in Dave's shed, we're going to remove all the mud so you can hopefully see the floor
10:53again, concrete the entrance so it's more accessible for him, and put in some seating
10:58and a bar so the family have an extra area to hang out.
11:02Here's the budget so far.
11:03The main focus has been adding some space and a shower to the bathroom inside, so I've
11:08allocated $3,000 for that.
11:10And the kitchen cupboard flat packs have come in at $1,500.
11:13Norm loves flat packs.
11:15He'll be stoked.
11:15Add $400 from Kennard's to get some high-pressure waters, and we're just under $5,000.
11:21But it's early days, and it's a big job.
11:23This whole thing's coming out, and going over there.
11:44Lee and I are kicking things off inside the house.
11:46Luckily, a lot of florin's already been replaced since the floods.
11:50That's one less job for us.
11:53The kitchen cupboards need to be replaced with something fresh.
11:58We'll be replacing wardrobes and interior doors, and giving the whole house a lick of paint.
12:04But first things first.
12:05We've got to start the demo on the bathroom.
12:07We've got less than five days to get it all done, so no mucking around.
12:14Eight people living in this house with one shower.
12:18Eight bums to wash per day if you average it out at one wash per day.
12:23I never really thought of it like that.
12:24Yeah, it's a good time.
12:28It's a good time.
12:28It's all rotten and wet, so perfect time to be able to run out.
12:34Given the scale of the renovation, I've reached out to our investment mentor, Lachlan Vidler,
12:39for some expert advice to make sure every dollar's being spent in the right place.
12:43Look, here he comes now in his flash car.
12:46Hope he doesn't get bogged.
12:47I wasn't sure who it was, but then I realised that the car was far shindier, more expensive,
13:03and far more valuable than anything else.
13:05I said, oh yeah, the value guy's here.
13:06It's kind of like when the skip bin arrives.
13:08You know who it is as soon as they get there.
13:09No.
13:10You don't just drive a Porsche into budget battlers.
13:23Like, what happened to the old Miss Navarra style?
13:25Well, you'd have to hire a Miss Navarra to hide the Porsche.
13:32Jess.
13:34Ah, excuse me, mate.
13:36Can I help you?
13:37I want to write you a ticket.
13:39For what?
13:40Free to show off.
13:43No, you earned it.
13:45Good deals.
13:47Come on.
13:49It's not budget battlers anymore.
13:50He wanted to give it to you.
13:55No, he doesn't, because he heard what you said about his apport.
13:58I was going to change your opinion there for a second.
14:00I know.
14:01This is the bathroom here that we're going to add to the house,
14:04because obviously six people in the house.
14:06Yeah.
14:07One shower.
14:08Tell us the value out of this.
14:09Like, I reckon this is, like, a no-brainer.
14:11Of course, it's a value ad.
14:13It is so common that when you go and see a house, you've got a full bathroom.
14:17Yeah.
14:17But then you have the half, which is usually just a toilet, exactly like what's here.
14:20But it can be really hard from a floor plan point of view to make it bigger,
14:25to be able to turn it into a full bathroom.
14:26Yeah.
14:26But with a bit of strategy here, and probably a bit of good luck as well, we can obviously
14:32extend it out.
14:32And now you take it from a one, one-and-a-half bathroom house to two, and the value that comes
14:37from that is literally unbelievable.
14:39So if you even wanted to buy a house, right?
14:42Yeah.
14:43To flip.
14:43Yeah.
14:44If you just purely did the floors and did this to the bathroom, would you be making money?
14:51100%.
14:51Yeah, right.
14:52100%.
14:53Because you put all of our time and effort into this and that and this.
14:55This is literally what you could do.
14:57Yeah.
14:57And it's that simple, right?
14:59You've got to know what you're doing, but it's that simple.
15:02It's just handy to have.
15:03And he's already got the runs on the board, too.
15:05He's not just a yes guy.
15:07He's got a Porsche guy, so you know that he's going to make the right decision.
15:10Do you own your Porsche outright?
15:12Of course, Jess.
15:13Of course.
15:15Hey, Lee, monks, lords, Darlsons have dropped the gear off.
15:18We're on to go.
15:22Yeah, lift up.
15:26The amount of mud and rubbish even six months on is hard to believe.
15:38Hey, buddy.
15:39What's happening?
15:40We're going to redo this whole shed.
15:43What are you going to do?
15:44Be okay, but...
15:45Well, he likes to sit in here, so...
15:48And he's just struggling to clean it up.
15:51Yeah, I totally understand that.
15:53This is where we can actually make the most amount of impact.
15:55Because it's not a flash, we know.
15:59We do this to lift spirits.
16:01So I'm just going to scrub it up, organise it,
16:06so that the next time he sits in here,
16:08he's in a place where he can progress,
16:10not have to work out what he needs to do
16:12in order to get up to where he was before.
16:14This is where he spends the most amount of time.
16:16Yeah.
16:16And that you can tell that he's really struggling.
16:18We're just trying to get him out of it.
16:20At least if he can walk in,
16:22I'll say, all your tools are boxed to you.
16:23He can pick a shelf and start putting them back out
16:26wherever he wants.
16:27It's not about materialistic things.
16:30It's so much deeper than that.
16:31It's a whole bunch of strangers going,
16:33G'day, mate.
16:34I've never met you before,
16:35but I bet that we can get you in a good spot.
16:39So wherever you go to a house,
16:41you're just like, let's have a crack at that.
16:43Worst comes to worst,
16:44you're just going to have a cleaner shed.
16:45You're just going to have a cleaner shed.
17:15We're here in Jones Island,
17:19just out of Tarbury,
17:21a community that's copped some of the worst floods on record.
17:24We got to the front gate
17:25and it was just mud all the way in.
17:32This week, we're lending a hand to the Trotter family,
17:36helping them get back on their feet.
17:37We decided to go a separate little tiny house
17:40that we've got here.
17:42So, yeah, that's us.
17:44Living on top of each other gets a little bit much,
17:47but with a bit of space, it works in harmony.
17:49Three months before the flood,
17:51we just moved in
17:52and we're still paying off the credit card
17:54for the first bit out.
17:55So, unexpectedly to try and do it all again.
18:00Yep.
18:01It was...
18:02Drain the savings.
18:03Yeah.
18:03Everything we had, so...
18:06Yep.
18:06Do what you've got to do.
18:08They've always been the first to help everyone else in town
18:10and now it's their turn to get a bit of that kindness back.
18:14You've got to watch her, not under that.
18:23There was a deck that was on the front of the tiny home.
18:26Swing this way a bit.
18:28And that washed away a little bit.
18:32Lots of munker got into that this morning
18:34and got it all ready
18:35and we lifted that back onto the front of the tiny home.
18:38Righto, lifted.
18:40Good job, look, no heads.
18:41Brilliant.
18:42Come around.
18:43Just watch that stump under your foot coming around.
18:45What are you doing, Lawrence?
18:47I'm organising, mate.
18:50Go in.
18:50Go in.
18:51That's it.
18:52That's it.
18:52Beautiful.
18:53Love your work.
18:54What's he?
19:06You got your showing off, buddy.
19:08Yeah, I didn't want it to smell, Jess.
19:10I was digging these holes.
19:12I was going to be sweating.
19:13Your scars, mate.
19:13What happened?
19:15This one?
19:16Your scratch, yeah.
19:17It was a crocodile.
19:19What?
19:20A crocodile.
19:20I was up in Darwin and I was in a carry-on park
19:24and I was grabbing me rod to go fishing
19:26and the boat next door he actually warned me.
19:28He said, don't go down there.
19:31Sorry, that was a really good story.
19:34He said, don't go down there, mate.
19:36There's crocs.
19:37I said, ah, bullshit's the beach, mate.
19:38Tossed it a line and all of a sudden I seen it come up
19:42and his frontclaw just grabbed me
19:45and I ran like shit.
19:47Providing ladies around Australia
19:52would be one of the most delicious TV moments
19:54that is going to cross their eyes in a long time
19:56before you met a guy called Lortz
19:58with a tiger tattoo on his back
19:59telling us how he got bitten by a crocodile
20:01while digging a hole.
20:02What?
20:03He did not get bitten by a crocodile.
20:06Don't be jealous.
20:07Just because you get upset when you pluck your eyebrows.
20:10Oh.
20:11Are you kidding me?
20:12He does.
20:12He carries on like a pork chop.
20:14God, the bitter man, get bitten by a crocodile
20:16and then dig a hole.
20:17Oh, he just taped it up and it was all good.
20:19That's why it's all scarred like that.
20:22Yeah.
20:23It's all right.
20:24I'm glad you're on our team.
20:25I was going to get the trot as a washer and dryer
20:28but then when I saw Lortz's abs
20:30I was just like, oh, I'll just wash
20:31with their bloody underpants on that.
20:36Old school style.
20:38Got some suds.
20:42Hey, Lee, have you got a snack?
20:48Yeah, yeah, sure.
20:49Well, I've noticed some moulds around the home
20:51especially in the bathroom that you're working on right now
20:54and I've got some products that might be able to help with that.
20:58That is great you brought that up
20:59because it's such an issue like after flooding water
21:02it is just it comes out everywhere.
21:05So we've got quite a lot of areas
21:06that we need some sort of product that'll help.
21:09We've got some really great sprays that can do that for us.
21:14So they're mould sprays.
21:15You spray it on, let it sit for a while
21:18and then come back and remove it.
21:20And then we've also got some really great little buckets here.
21:23Then what you do is you just take the plastic off this
21:26you pop this lid back on and you just let it sit.
21:29And what happens is it helps to prevent mould forming.
21:32Cool.
21:33That is exactly what we've been looking for.
21:38Budget Battlers is about community and people
21:40coming together to help out other people
21:43especially those that are battling.
21:44Hello, how are you?
21:59You are not going to believe what we have done for you.
22:02Humankind today rocked in with a beautiful, beautiful caravan.
22:08So we know that Brooke, she's having a baby.
22:11Yeah.
22:11So Humankind have got in touch with Noel here.
22:15G'day Noel.
22:16Through Facebook Marketplace.
22:17Through Facebook Marketplace.
22:18Oh God, you meet the best people through Facebook Marketplace.
22:20Real people, yeah.
22:23And he has provided this.
22:26I'm just so proud of them.
22:27They've got the budget, about the spirit.
22:29Are you Tari local?
22:30Yeah, yeah.
22:31They've been doing it bloody tough here, haven't they?
22:34Oh, 100%.
22:35You just don't realise the impact until you go through it yourself.
22:40Yeah.
22:40You know, and, you know, but we have a great community, you know,
22:45when things get tough, everybody links their arms together
22:48and helps everybody and the town just come back together so fast.
22:53We can budget battle it.
22:54Well done, Angie.
22:56You are.
22:57It's all right.
22:58Do you want to check it out?
22:59Yes.
22:59Go and have a look inside.
23:00Doing up caravans is my dream.
23:02So how good, now we've got a caravan to renovate.
23:04Woo, and a shed, and a house.
23:07And a lawn, and some concrete ink.
23:11What's it like?
23:12Oh, here's Dave.
23:14Holy smokes, it would have been a rough ride.
23:16No, you took those corners a little hard, mate.
23:19Sorry, mate, sorry.
23:21Turns and conditions apply.
23:22Dave didn't really jump out of the caravan.
23:23We just went in there so that we could get surprised when he arrived.
23:27So don't bother calling the cops.
23:30That'll come out easy.
23:31That's coming out very easy.
23:33Oh, my gosh.
23:34All right, there goes Dave.
23:36That's so, I love it.
23:38The people that really are going to be doing it a bit tough is Brooke and the husband,
23:42and the newborn baby, which is coming in a couple of weeks.
23:45So this space is going to have a lovely couch, a telly, an air con, a place for them to sleep,
23:52and a place for the baby to sleep so that they've at least got their little spots.
23:56And I just think that's so important.
23:58If they reckon Diamonds are a girl's worst friend, give me a caravan that looks a little bit dreary on the inside
24:03that's got full of potential.
24:04That's actually my sweet spot.
24:05Thank you, baby.
24:15How are you?
24:15How are you, mate?
24:16Coming up all right.
24:17Bloody hell.
24:18You are hard and you are fast, mate.
24:21And you can say that because that's his business name, hard and fast.
24:23We've got a fair bit to go, but I think we'll get there by the start, hopefully.
24:26And what made you want to come down here today?
24:28Oh, we're just trying to help out with what we can.
24:30And we've seen the show and stuff like that.
24:32We agree with what you guys are doing.
24:33I love it.
24:34You're a legend.
24:39Now it's my turn to go shopping.
24:41I've headed down to Beaumont Tiles to sort out the tiles for this bathroom.
24:46Look, I'm a bit of a regular when it comes to the shopping scene, like the styling side.
24:50You can just ask Jess that she does say that I have quite the ability to pick out a product that we need for the house.
24:57That's a lie.
24:59I am terrible at this.
25:00So what I do is I ring someone I know, like me old mate Daz from Beaumont's, and I just
25:05go down and see him and he just picks it all out for me.
25:09I go back to site.
25:10Everyone thinks I've picked it.
25:12I look like the key.
25:13How are you, Daz?
25:13I'm good, Norm.
25:14How are you?
25:14Going well, mate.
25:15What's happening?
25:16Oh, you know, working hard.
25:17How about you guys?
25:18Well, we've got a bit going on at the moment.
25:19So we're doing a house in Taree, being completely flood-damaged after all the floods I had there
25:24a few months ago.
25:25It's a family of six adults, two children.
25:28The problem is there's only one shower in the main house.
25:32We want to open up one bathroom that's technically just a toilet and basin.
25:36Okay, yep, yep.
25:37We want to put another shower in there.
25:39Okay, cool.
25:40So we need some tiles, brother.
25:42Easy, no problems.
25:43Let's head over to our BTMAX range and have a look at some options.
25:46Right, beautiful.
25:46Now, I'm thinking, because we've got a family of six adults, two kids, I think we should
25:52go probably for a darker floor.
25:54It hides a bit more of the dirt.
25:56Yeah, yeah, yeah.
25:56So I'm thinking we will use Omniform Charcoal from the range.
26:02It is a textured tile, so it is non-slip.
26:04Great.
26:05Right, so for the kids, it will help reduce slip factors when they're in the bathroom.
26:08Yep.
26:09And then I will pair that with just a simple gloss white wall tile.
26:14However, it's going to create more openness in the bathroom because of the gloss.
26:19Yep.
26:19So the bathroom will feel bigger than it actually is.
26:21Yeah, right.
26:22That's good because it's not a huge width in this bathroom.
26:25Beautiful.
26:25And remember too, bigger the tile, less grout lines.
26:28Yep.
26:28So it will also make the space feel bigger.
26:30Yeah, beautiful.
26:30All right, let's lock it in.
26:32Beautiful.
26:32Love your work, mate.
26:33Done.
26:34Yeah, I think it's going to make a massive difference to this family.
26:37They're just using one shower in the main part of the house.
26:40And there's four adults, one kid.
26:42And they're fighting over the shower every day.
26:44If we can extend that other bathroom out and put another shower in there,
26:48they're going to have a shower, a toilet vanity.
26:51Two people can use that one.
26:53Two people can use the other one.
26:55So everyone's going to get a shower and they'll have the hot water systems going
26:58and everything will be right.
26:59Everyone will have hot water and can shower all day long.
27:01Are you okay?
27:11Was it a whirly?
27:12There you go.
27:13It's a team.
27:14Who's then?
27:14A healthy life.
27:15Oh, f***.
27:16A curly whirly.
27:17Seconded healthy life, Jen.
27:22Where is the healthy life, Jen?
27:24I'm trying to treat.
27:26Oh!
27:27Here's the light.
27:28Ah!
27:29Ah!
27:29Are you okay?
27:32Yeah!
27:32Oh, my God!
27:33This is the most dramatic night of the series.
27:37Oh, my God!
27:39They come around the corner and then rolled, rolled, rolled
27:41and then just hook up.
27:44That's bizarre.
27:46And Twister was on telly last night.
27:48I watched a bit about it.
27:49The budget bettler's team are in Jones Island, New South Wales, helping out a local family
28:03whose home was hit hard by the floods.
28:05Let's see how the cash spend is going.
28:07The budget is still on track, thanks to all the incredible donations we've received, including
28:13excavation gear donated by family members.
28:15But we've added $1,500 for paint for indoor and out, including the Dulux Renault range for
28:21the kitchen cabinet.
28:23Hired some gear from Kennards.
28:24And $800 for extra tools and timber.
28:27Total spend so far?
28:28$7,200.
28:45By far, one of the sweetest people on sight of the girls at Healthy Life, but for some
28:49reason, Mother Nature chucked the Healthy Life tent up and put it upside down in a bloody
28:53tree.
28:55Oh, my gosh.
28:56Looks healthy.
28:58Yeah, I've got to get a few breaches out of here first.
29:02Our tent was completely gone.
29:07A mini cyclone came through and it blew it up into the tree, which upside down, might I
29:14add.
29:14Absolutely.
29:15I'm still sceptical if that was the wind or if it was the boys coming down on us.
29:19I don't know.
29:20All right, girls, there's your tent back.
29:23Thanks, guys.
29:24Oh, no.
29:28Obviously, you didn't have it weighed down, did you?
29:33Have a look at that.
29:35I don't think it would have mattered last night what you had on it, actually.
29:37It was going one way or another.
29:40Oh, no.
29:40Happy, healthy walk.
29:41All right.
29:42See you, Norm.
29:42If you're having one of those days where the reno's gone sideways and your tent's ended
29:48up in a tree and you can't get to the doctor, don't stress.
29:51Our mates at Healthy Life have got you covered.
29:53I'm an idiot because I left some of my medication at home.
29:56Anyway, I've jumped onto Healthy Life's telehealth service to get my prescription filled and they
30:02deliver anywhere in Australia for free.
30:04So I don't even have to go to the site.
30:06I'm not going to lose time.
30:07It's bloody handy having mates with a telehealth service, isn't it?
30:10Hello.
30:12Yeah, I've left my prescription at home and I was just wondering if you'd be able to help
30:16me just get a new prescription because I'll be here for a couple of days.
30:23That's how easy it is.
30:37We love all of our mates on the Budget Butler team and one of them used to be a real housewife,
30:58a Sophie star, even 90s pop royalty.
31:01But to me, she's just the fanciest person I know with a heart of gold.
31:05Mel, what a ripper.
31:07I am no expert.
31:09I just go off what I think looks nice and what I think looks good.
31:13And yeah, you just got to kind of wing it, really.
31:19There's a beautiful story about this wooden table that they had in the lounge room.
31:24It was something that survived the flood.
31:27So they really wanted to keep that, which is amazing.
31:30So I've tried to go off those colours so you don't introduce another colour into the house.
31:38We want the family to come in and just be blown away and just love their space.
31:46Still make it feel like it is their space, but just add a bit of the Budget Butler, you know,
31:53flavour.
31:54Munger and Lortz are the ultimate Budget Butler warriors.
32:03They made the fence out of pine and pallets that they found around the place, which cost nothing.
32:08What a bunch of legends.
32:09Do you think how much they've spent to the week?
32:12Under $100.
32:13You and Lortz are just resource grabbers.
32:17Like, you look around, see what you've got.
32:19You're just freaking...
32:20Someone else might cost tight people.
32:22No, you're smart.
32:24I bloody love you.
32:25Wish I was a tight person.
32:26When it's go time, they've got two objectives.
32:30To bring people home, make sure that they're happy, but also not to break the bank because
32:35they know that every cent that they spend is going to take away money from the next house we go for it in.
32:39So, there's going to be a concrete path from the road up until the shed.
32:55They're reconcreting a little bit of it.
32:57Then inside the shed, we're going to get Dave's Harley-Davidson back from the marina.
33:01We're going to put it on, like, its own little dance floor.
33:05It's going to be unreal.
33:09I've got a trailer load of stuff that the Turrey Men's Shed gave to me a while back
33:15to help all of the flood victims, and it's tools, power tools, hand tools, nails, hammers.
33:22You guys are doing that shed, and I'm sure there's probably stuff in that trailer.
33:25Yeah.
33:26That you guys can snap.
33:27Oh, definitely.
33:28Can we have a look?
33:29Yeah, absolutely.
33:30All right, let's go.
33:31It's random.
33:32I'd been watching their show a few weeks ago and saw this post, and I thought, it's a sign.
33:37I've got this trailer load of stuff.
33:39They need help.
33:41I saw how bad it was here, and so I just turned up.
33:45Ho, ho, ho.
33:46Oh, my God.
33:47There's almost everything that you can think of.
33:50It's just...
33:50Oh, yeah.
33:51So, Janine, just a random, just popped in with a trailer on, absolutely choc-a-block full
33:58of tools.
33:58So nice.
33:59The Turrey Men's Shed donated all this stuff to her, and she's just going around offering
34:05whatever's in that trailer.
34:07If you need it, you take it.
34:08If you don't want it, so be it.
34:10I'll take it off until the next joint.
34:12Beautiful.
34:12I'm going to leave you guys with it.
34:13Janine, thank you so much.
34:14You're very welcome.
34:16Unbelievable.
34:16Awesome.
34:18Unbelievable.
34:19Yeah, it's an awesome community around here.
34:21Yeah.
34:22You just can't be there.
34:23So, remind me, that has been there all afternoon.
34:26Oh, Janine.
34:27She's been out there working outside with the boys and raking up gardens and laying turf.
34:31Was Janine the one doing the, like, pulling up the weed, like her?
34:34Yeah.
34:35That's Janine.
34:35She's lovely.
34:36I was like, who's that?
34:37Now I know.
34:38It's Janine.
34:39Janine.
34:39We wanted to put some doors in between the bedroom and the living room in Josh and Brooke's
34:56part of the house.
34:57And Foreman Lee has a great money-saving idea.
35:03BJ board, and he then encoded it with the MDF, and then you've got the rails that you do it.
35:08Look how beautiful it is.
35:09You can't tell me that that man is not a craftsman.
35:13He is...
35:14No, it looks amazing.
35:15Oh, he's good.
35:16Good job, mate.
35:32Thank you, Lawrence.
35:34I'll be back.
35:34I appreciate it.
35:34I'll be back as soon as I can.
35:36Everyone has come together this week, and it has shown how kind humans can be.
35:41Probably a good time now to get Humankind in to announce their Kindest Person on Site Award,
35:45I reckon.
35:46It was hard to pick because everyone's put in 110% effort.
35:49There's one person that has actually stood out quite a lot, and from the very first day
35:53that we arrived, they have just been stepping up and offering to help however they can.
35:57Yeah.
35:58They're the first person that we've seen every morning when we've arrived.
36:03They've gone over and above.
36:05They've just always got this beautiful smile on their face, and they're so warm, and nothing's
36:12been too much trouble for them.
36:13We want to award this person $5,000.
36:17So the person that we've chosen is you, Serena.
36:21Yeah!
36:22Yeah!
36:25Well done.
36:26Nice win!
36:28Nice win!
36:29You're the cuddle.
36:32Winning from the humankind.
36:34Five grand.
36:36That's incredible.
36:37Well, no-one's ever done that for me, and I'm just feeling really overwhelmed, actually,
36:42because I feel like everybody deserves their own car to five grand.
37:01Origin Energy are here to make sure the whole house is electrified
37:05and to get some whopping big solar panels on the roof.
37:09So the Sun Grand Inverter and battery is now fully commissioned?
37:13Yes, and if you look at this beautiful installation here,
37:16this is a single-phase hybrid 8-kilowatt inverter,
37:20and this is a 9.6-kilowatt battery,
37:23and the customer can be able to monitor how much the system is doing,
37:27how much the battery is charging or discharging from their mobile app called iSolar Cloud.
37:32I can show you through the iSolar Cloud app.
37:36Right now, the system is producing around 2.5-kilowatt.
37:40The house is taking around 2-kilowatt off, and remaining is charging the battery.
37:44So it is a very easy way for the customer to manage how much solar they have.
37:49That's fantastic.
37:50Great.
37:51Thank you so much.
37:52I really appreciate you coming out.
37:53It's our final day here in Jones Island,
38:05and the team, along with the beautiful community, haven't stopped.
38:08They've worked around the clock, barely sleeping,
38:11to get this place ready in time for the family to come home.
38:14That's right.
38:15Five big days.
38:16A crew of bloody hard-working volunteers,
38:2010 grand,
38:21and some ripper donations
38:22from some top-notch people and businesses
38:25who just wanted to pitch in and do some good.
38:35Oh, my goodness.
38:37Phew.
38:40Wow.
38:41Oh, look at the fence. It's beautiful.
38:44Oh, my God.
38:44Oh.
38:45Hello, you darling, Trotters.
39:03How are you?
39:04Good.
39:06We're great.
39:07We're great.
39:08We are so excited to show you what we're about to present,
39:11but what happened in the last five days wasn't just a renovation.
39:13It was a group of people that came together,
39:17not just because they knew you,
39:19but because they heard about you.
39:21And as a result, we have got to know you
39:23and how beautiful you are through your families,
39:25your friends, your stories, what you've done.
39:29And we just want to say we really love you.
39:30She's making you cry again.
39:32Sorry.
39:33And me.
39:33Sometimes when you see things
39:37and you're inside the space,
39:40you can feel the struggle.
39:43And sometimes you don't realise how much that struggle is
39:46until you actually get in there and you go,
39:49oh, my God, I'm so glad we're here.
39:50Thank you for letting us showcase Tari
39:54and the kindness and the love
39:56and the generosity that it is.
39:58So if you don't mind,
40:00we should go into your house and have a look.
40:02Oh, we would love to have a look.
40:04Come on, let's go, guys.
40:09Open her up, Trotters.
40:12Come on.
40:12This is just beautiful.
40:34They've actually done a mighty job.
40:35They have.
40:36From what it was.
40:37The yard was just a mud heap.
40:39Weeks and weeks of work has been done in...
40:41In days.
40:42In days.
40:43You've just got to look at it.
41:00Oh.
41:02Oh.
41:04Oh, my goodness.
41:05Oh, wow.
41:12What you've done in here is...
41:30Yeah, it's hard to explain.
41:34Like, it's unbelievable.
41:36It's just...
41:37But this table is a survivor
41:38because this survived the flood.
41:39This is one of the only bits of furniture.
41:40These chairs...
41:41These chairs floated,
41:43but that survived,
41:44and it's like the whole eight of us
41:45can fit around this.
41:46Yeah.
41:46It just looks beautiful.
41:48Yeah.
41:49It's stunning.
41:49I love it.
41:49Wow.
41:50Wow.
41:50Wow.
41:51That looks so nice.
42:00That's beautiful.
42:06Wow.
42:07Oh, my God.
42:08Can't believe it.
42:28I can't believe it's the same room.
42:29All those shelves are gone.
42:45Look what Foreman Lee made with MDF and BJ.
42:49And I...
42:49How beautiful.
42:51How flash.
42:55That is...
42:55That is stunning, isn't it?
42:57That is stunning.
42:58I envisaged barn doors on this.
43:00Did you?
43:01That's what I wanted him to do,
43:02but it was lucky because...
43:03So many jobs...
43:05I was going to say,
43:06you had plenty on your plate, Dave.
43:07I don't know whether...
43:08I couldn't find a barn.
43:10Ah!
43:19We're at the home of the Trotters
43:20in Jones Island near Tauri in New South Wales.
43:23This is just beautiful.
43:25And we are pleased to say
43:26they are loving what we've done so far.
43:28What you've done in here is...
43:31Yeah.
43:32It's hard to explain.
43:33Like, it's...
43:34It's unbelievable.
43:36But the best is yet to come.
43:41Oh, look at it.
43:43It's beautiful.
43:44Oh, my God.
43:45Oh, my God.
43:45The extra bathroom
43:53will make a huge difference.
43:55There'll be no fighting at night time.
43:59Yeah, it's game-changer.
44:00Absolute game-changer, that.
44:02It is.
44:02Do you want me to show you
44:03how you can wash your bum?
44:04No, it's OK.
44:07I'm guessing that is a bidet over there.
44:09Yeah.
44:10It's a bidet from COVID,
44:12so it's like a toilet seat.
44:13You put it on top
44:14so you don't have to replace
44:15your entire system.
44:17Oh, lovely.
44:17Have you tried it yet?
44:19No, but I'm happy to do it
44:21in front of you
44:22to show you the same spot.
44:23But I have heard
44:24you haven't lived here.
44:25You've had water on your side.
44:29It's not bad.
44:30I'm going to get off it.
44:31I might get off it.
44:34Actually, I don't mind that at all.
44:36You, we should have a go.
44:40Like, honestly,
44:40you've got to try before.
44:41Oh, no, I'm not doing it
44:42at someone's new house.
44:45I might do it in a motel room
44:47where I'm by myself.
44:50Is that your moral stance?
44:51Is that your moral stance?
44:53He's a good guy.
44:54You should put that
44:55on your Tinder profile.
44:56We'll not use a bidet
44:57at someone's new house.
45:00We'll only do it at motels.
45:02As Dave and Jen take a moment
45:06to enjoy their newly transformed home,
45:09it's time to show Josh and Brooke
45:10their new retreat.
45:12We know you're having a baby
45:13in a couple of weeks.
45:14How's your hormones?
45:15Yeah.
45:15That's Josh.
45:16Oh.
45:18We have these friends
45:19called Dave and Anne.
45:20They're from Humankind.
45:21They rocked up with this caravan
45:23that they wanted to gift
45:24because I was telling them
45:25about you guys
45:25and I was like,
45:26it's kind of hard
45:27not having your own space
45:28a little bit.
45:29Do you know what I mean?
45:30Just somewhere.
45:30And so Lortz
45:33and Munker
45:34and Lee
45:34did an absolute
45:35all-nighter last night.
45:37We all just wanted
45:38to create a space
45:40for you to be able
45:40to relax
45:41because being a mama
45:43for the first time
45:43with your baby,
45:44you can't get,
45:44you can't get that back.
45:47So I hope this is the place
45:48to...
45:48Oh, no, you're making me cry.
45:49Stop it.
45:50You can tell the mums.
45:54I know.
45:56I love you.
45:57Okay.
45:58Grab a look.
46:00Oh, my God.
46:02Oh, my God.
46:15You know this is ours.
46:17Oh, my God.
46:18I'm going to start crying again.
46:19This is going to be really great
46:26for when we have the baby
46:27and we can come in here
46:29and just relax.
46:31Hey, you can come in here
46:32and chill
46:33with your little brother.
46:35I'm, like, lost for words.
46:37That little caravan
46:47that we get to call ours
46:49is amazing
46:50and it's going to be
46:52a saviour
46:54when the baby's here
46:56and we just go sneak off
46:58and have some quiet time.
46:59Hi, Jen and Dave.
47:04Hi, Jess.
47:05Good to see you.
47:06Nice to see you.
47:07This is my mate, Lydia.
47:09She's from Origin.
47:10She's going to give you
47:11a little bit of a something-something.
47:12When we heard about everything
47:12that you've done
47:13for the community,
47:14we wanted to give something back.
47:16So you probably saw
47:17that we've installed
47:19a great big solar system
47:20on your rooftop,
47:22but that's not all.
47:23We've also installed
47:24a 10-kilowatt battery.
47:25So that means
47:26that all the excess solar
47:27that's soaked up
47:28by those beautiful panels
47:29up on your roof
47:30is going to go
47:31into the battery
47:32and then as soon
47:33as the sun goes down,
47:34your battery kicks in
47:34and your battery's
47:35going to power your home at night.
47:37So, you know,
47:37your home should stay
47:38a lot more comfortable
47:39and your bills
47:40will come right down.
47:42With so many living here,
47:44our bills are very high.
47:45We are high users
47:46of electricity,
47:47so that will be amazing.
47:48That will really help us out.
47:50So welcome.
47:50Thank you, Slidia,
47:51and thank you, Origins.
47:55That's a solar panel
47:56is just unreal.
47:58So that'll make
47:59a really big difference.
48:03This used to be
48:03your flood-torn areas
48:07with swamp.
48:08We had you, mate,
48:09bring some gravel,
48:10thousands of dollars worth
48:11to be able to give you
48:12a road so that you're able
48:13to access your machinery
48:14because then we know
48:15that if you were to twist
48:16or turn,
48:17it could be catastrophic
48:18for you health-wise.
48:18So we can't thank
48:20the community enough
48:20for even donating
48:21the rocks here.
48:22That's amazing.
48:23Do you guys want to come?
48:25Come.
48:25Come with us.
48:27Come for a walk.
48:32Oh!
48:33Oh, no!
48:37Oh, no!
48:43That's ridiculous.
48:44Oh, no!
48:44Oh, my God!
48:56They'll never come back
48:57to the house.
48:59Oh, Jesus!
49:00I can't!
49:02Shit!
49:03Oh!
49:04I don't know where to start.
49:10I've never seen the floor.
49:14Oh, my gosh!
49:21Thank you so much.
49:22What are you thinking?
49:32I get lots of words.
49:35This is how everyone
49:36would know what it was like.
49:37I don't know where to start.
49:51Wow.
49:54This, I don't even have words,
49:56sorry.
49:56I have no words.
49:57This is beautiful.
49:57I'm not used to having people do stuff today I know I've got a lot of good friends and that
50:16but like for him to then come and do this was yeah very it's emotional for me
50:21it's a weight lifter it's a massive way it's huge it's weeks and weeks of work to us has been done
50:35in days in days and and let's say you've just got to look at it it's just my god it's beautiful
50:41it's unreal you know with a budget of less than ten thousand dollars it just proves that with
50:48some help from your mates and some creative ideas you don't have to spend a fortune to have nice
50:53things and be reminded that you loved we got local real estate agent Peter Sayers to see if our ten
50:59grand reno has added any value to the place yes how you going mate told ya oh what a difference
51:07how are you great great oh can't believe how much you've got done I mean oh my gosh what do you
51:15reckon what's your favorite part oh well this was this is a great man cave now this was obviously
51:20a good shed before full of tools and good for storage but what a usable space yeah and then
51:26inside looks so different yeah added a bathroom and so compared to them to now what are we looking
51:33at if we were to give them a bit of a nest egg you know if you were going to sell it as it was before
51:37versus now you'd have to be easily a hundred probably 200 better off if you were to sell it as it was
51:44before so unbelievable turn around in five days my gosh let's check out how we went on the budget the
51:55biggest cash spend this week was the bathroom conversion but adding an extra shower is life
52:00changing a thousand bucks for shelving with a few donations by the legends at re-sync and we did
52:05receive some incredible donations and a lot of chop out from mates including excavation hire kogan the
52:11caravan from humankind and a special shout out to david latham at ford's quarry moorland for all the
52:17gravel but total cash spend under nine grand my best budget butler bargain is the shed sometimes
52:24things just need a good scrub it's amazing how it turns out i get the same feeling when i have a shower
52:29my best budget butler bargain has to be the barn doors made out of mdf and cost them less than 400
52:37bucks they look amazing good work lee
52:41sometimes life takes a bit of a rumble and tumble we know that it was more than the floods that has
52:49affected you and janine we also know that you've been having a really tough time as well uh and so
52:54lachlan fiddler from atlas property group we have gotten to know each other and he is one of the most
52:58genuine and he i would i'm proud to call him friend he wants to tell you something we would love to send
53:03you away for a few days to hamilton island in queensland oh my gosh so that you can have a nice
53:07little break and really be able to have some time to yourselves and also have some time with each
53:12other oh wow yeah that's crazy that's crazy no way like norm and jess like they are they go beyond
53:21and beyond like we love them immensely like what they've done for us and we feel like we've known
53:26them all our lives they just make you feel so welcome they're just such fair-thinking people
