00:32hello friends Jim Nance Tony Romo and Tracy Wolfson on a beautiful day out here in the Mile High City
00:38just look at the standings of the AFC West and we'll tell it right here the story eight and two
00:43the Broncos on the seven game one streak the Chargers have lost today and there's Kansas City
00:48two games back in the loss column well you slip here today Tony if you're Kansas City and you're
00:52five and five and the division starts to look almost out of reach there's no question their
00:57backs are against the wall and expect Kansas City to be at their best today they're treating this
01:01like a playoff game so I can't remember the last time in the Mahomes era that they've had as big a
01:06game in November before Thanksgiving and Vance Joseph the D coordinator of the Broncos the Chiefs
01:11they've known how to go against Mahomes when they played him the last couple years they've made it very
01:16difficult on Mahomes expect them to affect the quarterback it's going to be a situational game
01:20Mahomes has to win on third down and in the red zone for them to win this game all right Tony for
01:24more on the injuries going into this one here's Tracy that's right Jim both of these teams will
01:28be without their lead back today a huge loss for Denver J.K. Dobbins suffered a list frank injury last
01:34week he already had surgery he's out for this season Sean Payton telling us though he feels really
01:39confident with a rookie R.J. Harvey expect to see Jaleel McLaughlin as well as for the Chiefs no Isaiah
01:46Pacheco once again Andy Reid telling us they'll use a running back rotation but he also said
01:51establishing the run and staying balance is going to be huge against this Denver defense
01:56it's gonna be something to watch with that reworking of the running back room for both
02:01teams and the Chiefs are going to kick here at the top after deferring off the flip
02:06huge division game Jim and you do not want to have a huge game going to Denver in one of the loudest
02:20places in the National Football League Chiefs coming off a bye they need this game Denver off a mini
02:25bye after playing a week ago Thursday so they're both well rested they've got a new solid field there's a lot
02:31of energy in the stands and we're ready to roll with a touchback to get things started
02:35Bo Nix coming out his fourth quarter work has been remarkable but this team has built up a reputation
02:42for being slow starters he does throw touchdown passes 18 consecutive games but in this 10 game
02:48home win streak he's had 29 total touchdowns he's been accounted for I mean there's stretches of great
02:55play but it's usually toward the end of games which is what you'd rather have but they need to get off
03:00to a better start today and play from the lead this is going to be a monster game they know they have
03:06their foot possibly on the throats of Kansas City if they can come out of here with a victory and
03:10coach Baton says recognize the moment that was the mantra to the team chance what you can do as far as
03:15almost putting away KC first play of the game and look at this Connor comes up on a safety blitz and
03:23gets the sack to start it trying to be aggressive you're going to see right off the edge we're going to
03:29slide the line to the right and Connor who is really a game plan specific player plays everywhere
03:37this is going to be the challenge for Kansas City today Jim or the challenge for Denver you have a
03:43rookie running back Harvey and against Steve Spagnuolo with the exotic blitzes we'll see how that plays out
03:48how can he recognize how to pick up the blitz you saw it right there Spag's blitz gets a sack to start it
03:54second and 16 now Knicks on the bootleg running out of real estate and just dumps it off for the short
04:01game the Franklin let's talk about a key match up here these two coaches that have certainly excelled
04:09with Spagnuolo with four Super Bowl wins as a D coordinator and of course Sean Baton winning a
04:13Super Bowl down in New Orleans and his offensive wizardry his teams through the years average the
04:18most points per game in league history you're exactly right this is going to be the matchup to watch
04:22there's a few of them in this game but I really feel like which guy gets a beat on the other
04:25Spagnuolo will be coming after Bo Nix he's going to play pressure he's going to go one-on-one I think
04:31Cortland Sutton will actually be the key to this game got to get him the ball well he's a big third
04:35down presence is Sutton he's on the near side on third and seven he's looking his way and the pass
04:42comes instead to Bryant the rookie has the first down so they get out of a second and 16 and pick up a
04:50first down which again they've been so sluggish at the start getting a first down in the opening drives
04:56it's just a great play design when you can go ahead and run an out route and have a defender coming
05:03running Karloftis from the D line a little too much disguise right there by Spagnuolo
05:09this is what Denver needed that type of start which they've not had very much this year yeah
05:14they had nine three and outs in their last game against the Raiders they didn't need to open one
05:18with one today meanwhile a handoff to Harvey who again is going to see a lot of work today
05:23with J.K. Dobbins being put on injured reserve yesterday with a foot injury
05:27you can already see the game plan by Steve Spagnuolo pressure pressure more pressure
05:33he brought it on the first play with the sack Tranquil is coming on that one
05:37you better have a great game plan because I told you the Chiefs don't go quietly into the night this
05:43the team has never not made the AFC Championship with Patrick Mahomes Spagnuolo will bring his best as
05:49well today so he's got a second and eleven here we go we're good is again the behind ready
05:58which sticks after a poor first down play as Knicks goes way down the field Franklin
06:04cannot quite grab hold of it McDuffie on the coverage that's something you were looking for
06:10them to do in this game was to show some deep balls early and you got one right there and this
06:15was so close I mean it's a really close to an incredible catch but to me coming into the game
06:23you take your shots early get this defense off if you don't do that against Kansas City they will
06:28suffocate you but I do think the one area that Denver hasn't been good early in the games is too
06:34many penalties and too many drop passes Jim that was close kind of close it would have been a great
06:39catch changes the game sometimes third and eleven rushing for Knicks fires a bullet across the way
06:47and there's that third down specialist and Sutton picking up a first down
06:54you want to talk about a big time throw to a big time player Sutton's on the outside going to widen the
06:59stem and a deep dig route and that was a bullet right into his chest and
07:05you can't ask for a better start if you're a Denver Bronco fan well Sutton he's best in the league on
07:13third down receiving yardage and that was a big one two big conversions so far yes for the Broncos on
07:18this opening series which will be key in this game third down in red zone that went for 21 here out of
07:23the gun being chased by Chris Jones he's going to dump it off to Ingram and Ingram the former tight end by
07:29way of the Giants and the Jaguars has about seven or eight we saw Kansas City in their last game go
07:35ahead and watch Ingram right he's going to chip Chanel and then get to the flat Bo Nix wisely checks it down
07:42but Kincaid had a big game against Kansas City it's one area you can attack this team a little bit
07:49he's at the tight end position I mean at this point this year Ingram doesn't line up at the tight end
07:54position a lot he's more in the slot but I think you're going to see that change in this game and he
07:58needs to have a big game Broncos have already had four nice chunk plays on this drive McLaughlin comes
08:03in at running back and he gets the tote McLaughlin takes a defender with him and he's got the first down
08:12boy he is just a ball of energy this third year running back out of Youngstown State
08:18and how about the aggressiveness of Sean Payton oh you you want us to be more aggressive
08:24I'm going to run about five passes in a row and then I'll run the ball to start the game
08:32and they have just two total rushes so far with five pass plays
08:38ready Harvey got stuff for a loss of one and then first down pick up by McLaughlin just sees their intent
08:44they're going to go back to McLaughlin with a hesitation on the handoff and he's bursting ahead for about six
08:53I like this backfield right now obviously Dobbins is incredible they've got to adjust but I like
09:00McLaughlin and Harvey McLaughlin is shifty that's his nickname by the way
09:05shifty shifty shifty McLaughlin he comes out Harvey comes in just the second game by the way McLaughlin's
09:12been up this year yep this is going to be key though he's got to scan Harvey right here and figure out
09:18who's coming who do I have who's not coming in this situation second four you can just run the ball if
09:23you want so out of the gun straight pass play Knicks near side back to Bryant who had that first down catch
09:32on the first third down of the game and they've got another occasion to move to change Watson on the
09:37coverage it's a great play design stacking the receivers making it uncomfortable for Kansas City
09:44to determine when to come out of their zone and stay on their guy and right now Sean Payton is putting
09:50on a clinic other than the first play on the sack they've gone Tony they've gone eight straight games
09:56without scoring on their opening drive now they're well positioned first and ten at the 12th throw
10:04Harvey who was a quarterback before he's a running back way back when and boy maybe you saw that
10:10decision why they moved him to running back well I think Bo Nix had to turn into cornerback
10:15not the quarterback and you're exactly right there's a reason why they moved to positions
10:20yeah he started at Virginia did Harvey and then went to central Florida but came into the college
10:26ranks as a quarterback and then ended up leading the big 12 last year in yards per carry and they
10:32found him in the second round but that was not a good decision to throw that one back to
10:36to Knicks's direction no and Connor would have intercepted that ball after the sack having a good
10:42series here lucky for Denver second and ten
10:47to Ingram there he is Ingram at the ten to the five brought down by Cook this is an Ingram Sutton game
10:56if the they each have 15 targets total to 20 targets each gets eight to ten targets a piece
11:03that's the game plan I would have coming in
11:05boy just using up the clock here to start the game six and a half minutes in
11:12but now it's a third and three they've converted twice
11:21gonna try to get it up top here's Knicks pressure and he's taken down guess so yep just the third
11:28time this year Chris Jones has a sack been a lot of talk about where all the sacks he gets one in the
11:33first quarter today when the Chiefs are their backs are against the wall you need your star
11:39players to show up and I kept putting it in my notes Chris Jones has been awfully quiet this year
11:46expect the inner beast to come out today he's like oh this is important all right you're gonna
11:51see Chris Jones today we saw it right there it makes him have to settle for a Lutz field goal from
11:57about what 29 it'll be

12:54so about the 28th where he hits the wall all right Patrick Mahomes all time against the Broncos is 13 and
13:01one but in the last couple of years they have contained him as far as just offensive fireworks
13:09they were here week 18 last year crowd is going crazy
13:15but he did not play as they rested the starters week 18 last year in a blowout win by the Broncos
13:21that secured their playoff berth yeah toss that out I'm just telling you it is rocking this is loud
13:26as I've heard anywhere this year
13:30first snap for the Chiefs they swing it over to Rice
13:33Rasheed Rice in a full gallop for about 11. Kelsey threw a nice block and Cooper brought him down
13:39let's go to your tape room well the tape room is week 10 last year six man blitz and early in the game
13:46they were getting to Mahomes there's the game moved on Andy Reid Mahomes they adjust six man pressure again
13:54big play helping set up a key field goal late in the game to me that's gonna be part of this game is
14:00getting the beat on what Denver's plan is and Josh Simmons their left tackle is back after a four-game
14:07absence with personal reasons and they're glad to have him back as Mahomes loads it up and goes
14:14long to Worthy and he just overthrew him by a couple of steps remember you talked about how I said Bo
14:22Nix needs to get the ball down the field deep early in the game I said the same thing about the Chiefs
14:28let's just let Worthy run the fastest guy at the combine Mahomes has the arm like very few
14:36and he needed to have a little less arm on this one because that could have been a touchdown
14:41remember you're getting Kansas City's best today Jim that was barren in coverage remember Pat Sertan
14:47last year's defensive player of the year remains out with a pectoral injury should be back in their
14:52next game at the end of the month second and 10. Mahomes fires and incomplete trying to find Noah Gray
15:01this was so close as you see Sertan who got injured right before the end of the half of the cowboy game
15:12here three weeks ago has not returned since Mahomes was hoping he'd turn and not keep going out because
15:21he's got to keep it inside Denver's outside leverage this is where it gets difficult hard to communicate and this
15:29loud noise and this rushed crazy defense is ready to pounce
15:38third and 10 they seal the pocket for him as he throws long to Thornton and that one's just out of reach
15:44and that was Abrams drain on the coverage they tried two deep balls against that secondary they both fall incomplete wow
15:56you can see the intent of Kansas City what their focus is find the man-to-man matchup
16:03and both balls were just overthrown that one was closer you see the game plans now right
16:09they're gonna attack yeah 14 pass plays by the teams combined so far and only three rushes
16:17Arisa to punt to Mims who had missed the last two games because of a concussion and he's one of the
16:22best he's been an all-pro here's Mims cutting it up field this is what we're talking about here goes
16:27Mims with a block he's at the 50 and it's a chase there's an angle and they take him down it was
16:35Rowan Wallace who was able to get him there is a flag after a 68-yard run back
16:44boy they missed him having him back is huge you said it jim one of the most dynamic electric
16:50returners in the game but this will be coming back yeah the flags are all the way back near the 25-yard
16:58line on the broncos side they're talking a long time though so if you're a denver fan that gives you a chance

17:14game-changing call right here during the kick illegal blocking back against the kicking team
17:27how about that an illegal block in the back by the kicking team
17:49flag was someone right in that area right there well you can't blatantly it was well before then push in
17:55the back so it almost be like pushing someone into the ball carrier they're saying

18:29all right gene that sort that one out that's a rarity seeing that goal
18:33it is a rarity jim very rarely do you see a block in the back like that on the kicking team we saw in
18:38the replay a good replay to 38 definitely pushes in the back illegal play it's it's just a you know
18:44that's not a defensive play this is just a a push in the back and because it is on the kicking team
18:50which is the defense you're tacking that on to the end of the run good get by the officials but unusual
18:55and i think that's what prompted the long conversation
19:00here's a second and six and harvey tries to switch directions picks up one we couldn't hear adrian hill
19:06real clearly but it was on kevin knowles as gene pointed out the rookie from florida state
19:13and now the broncos face a third and five they've already been stopped once in the red zone
19:20settling for a field goal on the opening drive a huge call here you're off to a great start if
19:25you're denver things are going your way but if kansas city holds you a field goal you're just fine
19:31chris jones by the way has been very disruptive on three or four plays already today and there he is
19:36this is the seventh red zone snap already for denver they can get a first down at the one
19:43nick's looking left going down the middle and it's batted in the air incomplete batted by chanel
19:49chanel who made the big block field goal last year at arrowhead as the chiefs hung on for a victory
19:56they're tired of him getting his hands on the ball and he's in a spy position this is what makes him so
20:01unique they move him everywhere and he'll line up in the a gap pretend like he's a d tackle
20:09and if bo nix all of a sudden tries to scramble he'll go get him but he's watching his eyes the
20:13whole time in his body language that would have been a touchdown if he didn't tip that to sutton
20:17he's all over the place denver fans are tired of seeing him but the chiefs love what they're doing
20:23with leo here is the kick from lutz again another chip shot this one 24 yards and it's six nothing
20:30this is exciting this is an exciting game you're ready for fireworks jim
20:34you can always count on sundays with the nfl on cbs and paramount plus well this could have been 14
20:48nothing but the chiefs defense has stiffened inside the tent a couple of times and the broncos have had
20:56to settle for two lutz field goals from inside 30 yards distance and that was one of the keys to the
21:02game who's going to finish off the four point play going from three points to getting the six and seven
21:08on the extra point and right now kansas city's winning that battle one hopper it is to remedio
21:15and he gets hit with aggression by tillman after a 20-yard run back it's been a struggle for the
21:23chiefs on the road this year they're one and three and it's just it's across the board it's not
21:30patrick mahomes it's just they've run into issues most recently up in buffalo and in that game patrick
21:38did have his lowest pass complete percentage of his career 44 percent great plan by buffalo
21:44bosa had an incredible game but remember they didn't have full strength now they're back at full strength
21:50on the run he throws completes it to worthy he's got a first down gain of 10. i'm going to tell you
21:56early in games i just see certain things that kind of flash kansas city is going to be aggressive
22:06and beholmes you see and feel his sense of urgency not just throughout the week with his communication
22:12but the way he's playing right now jim watch out he's looks to me like he might be in the zone today
22:19first down at the 39
22:26they keep it to hunt and kareem tumbles up ahead for seven or eight yards on the road
22:33the chiefs and patrick specifically clearly the king of the west the numbers are staggering i'm gonna get
22:40back to this a little later on 19 and two on the road in the division 19 and two 13 and one against
22:47the broncos and when it comes to taking the vision they've got seven straight titles under mahomes nine
22:54overall now i say 19 and two on the road one of those road losses as they have the handoff to hunt
23:03was the game in brazil this year against the charge it wasn't really a true road game but accounted as a
23:08los angeles home affair so that's one of the two losses that's all of his career in the division
23:14there's the gap right there and you're exactly right he's owned this division
23:18today i want to see andy reed commit a little bit to the run i don't mind throwing the ball early this game
23:24letting mahomes go especially the way i feel like he feels great in that pocket they're blocking him
23:29pretty well simmons has helped a ton coming back keep having him the ball but they've got to run it
23:33today as this game continues to win and again they're without pacheco out again with a knee
23:39as without a helmet they almost sack him and mahomes with a little pump fake and a flag down
23:44falls at the 41. that was malcolm roach who lost his helmet as he was swarming after the quarterback and missed him
23:53well suah matia here might have taken roach's helmet off

24:29when both teams have struggled offensively from time to time penalties have been a huge
24:33part of the reason bonito and cooper sit out this play for that denver defense first and 20.

26:11going right and almost intercepted by pufunga as it bounced off the hands of rice
26:23wow does the ball bounce your way or not you're going to see the entire line come here
26:28and then they'll seal that edge and allow the homes to get out to his right and so quickly to rice
26:34and you don't expect rice to let that ball go through his hands so you can't blame pufunga for this one
26:39pufunga a big presence in that secondary coming by way of the 49ers and free agency this past off
26:48season here's the second and ten quick toss to smith the rookie leading through traffic and we got

28:15wicked shot and mahomes wants you to know you didn't hurt me i'm getting right back up he couldn't
28:20have gotten on his feet any faster but he's got a third and 15 tony against a team you would really
28:25not like that against right historic rate this team at getting sacks six defensive backs in for the
28:33broncos quick toss it's rice and he's brought down at the 12. who funga got to him first and another
28:42marker out on the near side 16. could be another hold on smith schuster possibly or a illegal formation
28:55it was looking like you tapped the top of your helmet i just think that shows you the respect
29:00kansas city has for this denver pass rush that we're not even going to drop back and pass we're
29:06going to throw a screen on third and 50. we're not going to let you get this out so you can get rid
29:10of it any quicker and again they're trying to sort this one out as matt nagy talks to andy
29:18it's going against the chiefs
29:24holding offense number nine that penalties decline fourth out
29:32well you see it's a very similar play another screen pass
29:34that one looks more like a hold than the other one i really feel like abrams drain there does a good
29:43job fighting over the top of it but smith schuster does all the dirty work and andy reed's like hey
29:48you're fine yeah don't worry don't worry about the back-to-back holding calls no nothing to see here
29:54harrison butker comes in by the way this again accentuates that the broncos are the best red zone
30:00defense in the league and their numbers are up there historic actually they've uh only allowed
30:07the opponent 28 percent finding the end zone is the third lowest in the league in the last 20 years
30:12it's crazy and we know kansas city's great in the red zone this year so that was a big focal point this
30:18week for both teams 31 yards for butker arrives on the hole winchester perfect snap and butker perfect
30:27kick all field goals here in the opening quarter hard enough to score touchdowns
30:32without penalties now give yourself two penalties in the red zone not gonna happen good game
30:42we mentioned it's a newly sided field third year in a row the bronco ownership group
30:46proactively replacing the field in season to make sure the surface is the best possible shape
30:51for the health and safety of the players and a shout out to chris hathaway the entire turf and
30:56ground crew here in power field you were down there before the game it's immaculate i don't
31:01want to say augusta but it literally was pure like perfect they did an incredible job i was impressed
31:07why were you hitting wet shots down there i didn't understand that needed a mark
31:11short free kick against a kicking team ball will be placed at the 40-yard line right hey big mistake
31:17that is a big mistake right there well the ownership group led by
31:27greg and carrie penner walton penner family ownership group and secretary
31:34angeliza rice secretary of state former secretary of state part of that ownership group as well
31:39and it's pretty cool to see how because we were here for the cowboy game three weeks ago
31:43and again in season going ahead and making that effort to make the conditions premium for the back
31:50half of the year that's why you're lucky when you get it all starts at the top and this ownership
31:55group has done an incredible job that's why i think part of this turnaround you've seen how fast
32:00here's a handoff and a quick hit immediately by a minute who on mclaughlin he's starting to flash to
32:07me a minute who they needed and boy is he coming on and if that continues that will help them a lot
32:13we've had nothing but field goals as both teams have been residing in the red zone twice for the
32:17broncos touchdowns are hard earned against these defenses as evidenced by the numbers going back to
32:23the start of last year one and two and fewest points allowed you're exactly right steve spagnola
32:28makes it very difficult vance joseph as well on the other side and that's going to be the challenge for
32:33bo nix today and this running back who's coming we got to go ahead and communicate
32:41here's nicks he bought some time whistles it over to mclaughlin mcduffie wise to it

32:55there was a whistle but should there have been a whistle that's the question
33:06well for a game full of field goals there was a lot of excitement here
33:13they ruled them down the crowd is howling about it second quarter is coming up on cbs
33:19we start quarter number two here in the mile high city after that
33:29what some thought was a quick whistle resulted in a loss of five rather than a big game
33:34for denver so they start the second 15 with a third and 16.
33:40look at chris jones he's gonna bring it today already has i think expect something quick screen
33:50hand off something easy oh boy nicks able to unload it to ingram you're only gonna get about halfway
33:59there let's bring in gene steritor for that play at the end of the quarter could have been pivotal if
34:04they didn't have the whistle what'd you see here gene you know jim in these situations you want to give
34:10the running back an opportunity to break away and then you don't want him held up where you have
34:14someone else coming in and taking a cheap shot here i felt like it was a little quick we were out in
34:19space give that runner one chance to get away and then if he can't then we kill the play thought it

42:12both were just a little too long but he's got 10 completions 64 yards
