00:24Welcome back to Orlando on this Monday night NBA basketball
00:29coming your way from the Kia Center in the heart of the city beautiful and
00:34tonight it's the magic taking on the Indiana Pacers let's take a look at our
00:40starting lineups for tonight presented by Planet Fitness for the Pacers it's
00:44Nimhart and Neesmith Jareth Walker Pascal Siakam and Jay Huff for the magic Javon
00:51Carter in for the ill Jalen Suggs Desmond Bain Tristan da Silva Bancaro and
00:57Carter jr. how about that a pair of partners in the starting lineup that'll
01:01make it fun tonight no relation Javon and Wendell magic head coach Jamal
01:08Mosley a longtime assistant with Rick Carlisle in Dallas Rick Carlisle a Hall
01:13of Fame NBA coach and with the Indiana Pacers in its fifth year they were in
01:21the NBA Finals if you recall last year but it's been a tough go without Tyrese
01:27Halliburton and injuries piled up early and they've been on a downward spiral
01:31they've lost 16 straight but the magic have a four-game losing streak and
01:36desperately need a victory tonight
01:39Wendell Carter Jr. stepping in and laying it in uncontested that's been the problem with Indiana
01:45they're defensively have been very deficient very capable of scoring points
01:50but you're right giving up over 120 points a game on the season
01:55Javon Carter in that starting lineup for the Orlando Magic and Nebhardt takes it
02:00right to him we're tied at two they're coming off a big game against the Spurs he
02:05had 25 points in that one I guess the great defensive yeah that's an attack my
02:12Mancaro they cut him off out to Carter he'll knife down the lane Mancaro from
02:17the corner that's short for three rebounded by Sheriff Wallace Walker now
02:24them hard attacking a pull-up shot is good again one of the things the Pacers want to
02:28do they want to play with pace that has not changed don't go as fast as they
02:33didn't score as well without Halliburton but philosophy's still there
02:36Carter with fake drive and lay it in Wendell with both Magic buckets here early in the first
02:44quarter and a turnover Pacers Javon Carter Bain into the corner Tristan da Silva backs it for three
02:57and to take an early three-point lead Silva shot the ball well against the Lakers Saturday night but
03:03he was in foul trouble much of that scoop shot by Siakam is no good but a foul it'll be
03:11on
03:11Desmond Bain and it'll put Siakam on the free throw line Wendell doing a nice job got
03:17that big show in the drive he wanted a foul over the back right there let's take
03:23another oh yeah definitely the left arm and then the over the top no call there
03:32Siakam got the whistle on the other end and the 68 percent free throw shooter
03:37knocks in the first of two fourth time all-star this year
03:46New Mexico State college star and his 10th year in the NBA
03:55Siakam's first points of the night make it a one-point Orlando Magic League
04:00Vaughn Carter's getting his 50th career starting tonight
04:06East here NBA veteran that'll be a moving screen on Wendell Carter Jr. and it'll turn
04:13the ball back over to the Pacers Aaron D Smith fighting over this screen it's just so hard it does
04:23calls still moving a little bit I guess really leaning into it that's a foul on Carter and a
04:32turnover on the Magic their first of the night
04:36Denhard going to be picked up by Wendell
04:40now he'll drive it against Carter and back it out
04:45dancing with the dribble lost the handle picked up by the Magic to Silva
04:49this turns driving it up the floor
04:54Siobhan Carter working Siakam to Bancara
04:58fallow driving banging into Demhart
05:01Huff blocked the shot but a foul probably Demhart down low
05:04I would think so
05:07How about the defense at the other end by Wendell Carter Jr. one-on-one against a very skilled
05:14offensive player Andrew Demhart
05:16watch this just doing a good job just getting in front forces the turnover
05:25so that's a couple of Pitzer turnovers early in the game
05:30Palo Vanquero on the free throw line shooting just a shade under 78 percent now from the line he was
05:38eight for eight on Saturday against the Lakers
05:40and he's pushing 80 percent now Jeff
05:46having a great year at the free throw line Vanquero
05:49and a three-point lead for the Magic
05:51Magic now up over 80 percent as a team because with Palo shooting so well
05:57Walker missed the three the rebound Vanquero having a career year rebounding as well
06:04Bane steps back fires over Huff for three and short
06:08Parker gobbles up another rebound and a foul
06:13is called on Indiana Smith I think
06:16holding on to Wendell
06:20that's Wendell bottom of your screen coming in right there just being aggressive going after it
06:28Siakam very good defender matched up against Palo
06:33Wendell he'll fire for three
06:34in and out rebounded by Walker
06:40Siakam
06:42Baccaro right there with it
06:44fall away jumper up
06:46Pascal Siakam
06:48such a tough shot
06:49Palo did a good job setting off the drive
06:51hard to defend that one
06:53that's a talented player you know takes the ball away from Vanquero
06:56he's Smith attacking
06:58Mimhart in the corner
07:00Siakam will drive on Carter
07:02out of a stumbling
07:04layup for Pascal Siakam
07:06it's gonna be careful with the basketball
07:08now two turnovers on them
07:10and Indiana has an early one-point lead
07:16Siakam getting after Wendell
07:17Javon Carter
07:20De Silva
07:22way off for three
07:23the rebound by Nembhard
07:25Siakam
07:27driving it
07:28tangled up with Vanquero
07:30wanted a whistle
07:31didn't get a call
07:32great job by Palo
07:34but Carlisle unhappy with the no ball
07:36it's five on four
07:37Vanquero a three-point shot
07:39no good
07:40rebounded by Nembhard
07:42and the Pacers have the one-point lead
07:45and the ball
07:46Jairus Walker
07:47got it for three
07:50and Indiana's up 13 to 9
07:54745 to go on the first floor
07:57since it's a big
07:58five of seven for the floor
08:01the free throw line shot
08:02no good by Carter
08:05Mimhart attacking again
08:06and Javon Carter reached in
08:08and fouled him
08:10it's gonna put Nembhard at
08:12the free throw line
08:16Andrew Nembhard
08:19going to the line for the first time
08:20tonight
08:23former Florida Gator

09:04average of over 65 points a game
09:06in the paint
09:07you know
09:08one of six
09:09six of their
09:10nine to do go tips
09:11have come from three
09:13realize they're open
09:14but
09:15just feel like we've got
09:16to establish the paint
09:17first
09:19it's been an issue
09:20in these
09:20four straight losses
09:23unable to score
09:25in the painted area
09:27that's been
09:28they
09:28run
09:29there's no good
09:30ask I'll see I can the rebound

09:32knee Smith
09:33jump pass back to Walker
09:35Jairus Walker
09:36with a left handed
09:38floating shot
09:39here
09:39and gives Indiana
09:41an early
09:42eight point advantage
09:44seventeen to nine
09:45and the Magic will take a timeout
09:48and now
09:49a moment
09:50with Dante
09:52well as we all sit here on a Monday
09:54today trying to pick up the pieces of our shredded NCAA tournament brackets
09:58let's update you on how the colleges of the Magic players are doing here to this point
10:03so eliminated
10:03Desmond Bain and his TCU Horned Frogs
10:07the Gonzaga Bulldogs are out for Jalen Suggs
10:09and the Florida Gators are out for Colin Castleton
10:12that one hurts a lot of folks here in Central Florida
10:15on to the Sweet 16
10:16the Duke Blue Devils
10:17the Michigan Wolverines
10:18Jace Richardson Spartans
10:20Anthony Blacks
10:21Arkansas Razorbacks
10:23none of these teams will be playing each other in the Sweet 16
10:26but we do have a great battle
10:27between our community ambassadors
10:29as Bo Outlaw's Houston Cougars will play that man's
10:32fighting Illini
10:33they're gonna square off in the Sweet 16
10:36JT your Commodores are out
10:37David
10:38your Gators Wildcats and Bulldogs are out
10:40I got the volunteers
10:42but you still have your volunteers
10:44David I don't know about you but I'm just trying to beat my 11 year old daughter
10:47who's cleaning my clock in her bracket
10:49it's worse for David
10:51it is worse
10:52I'm embarrassed
10:54to say
10:55it'll be magic basketball
10:56it's out of bounds
10:57you gotta say now
10:58yeah my two year old
11:00he's two
11:00two year old grandson Ben
11:02is ahead of me
11:04so you're basically last in the family pool
11:07absolutely
11:07yeah
11:10that's hard
11:11hard to do
11:12yeah it is
11:13it is
11:14Jamal Cain will inbound
11:16let's see what we've got
11:18that clock should be at 14
11:20how are you doing in your pool?
11:22I'm
11:23like I've still got my
11:24final four picks
11:26all of them are still alive
11:27see so that gives me the potential
11:29for points
11:30but
11:31yeah you know
11:32it just takes one
11:33where did you have the Gators going?
11:36not Iowa
11:37not Iowa
11:38not Iowa
11:38not Iowa
11:38not Iowa
11:38not Iowa
11:38no a little bit later
11:40Bain can't connect on a three
11:42Jamal Cain rebounds missed the shot
11:44well thank goodness
11:45early for Wintel Carter Jr.
11:48and that's where the magic could excel
11:50in that painted area
11:51there's really
11:52not going to be a whole lot of resistance
11:54on the glass
11:55or in my opinion
11:57he moved the ball on the drives
12:02Aaron Neesmith
12:04rebounded by Javon Carter
12:08Vancaro loads it up at the top of the circle
12:11hangs in to Siakam
12:12pull up jumper is around and out
12:16puffed rebound for the Pacers
12:17they're up by six
12:19better than half way through the first quarter
12:23and it's only 415 shooting
12:25D Smith
12:27knocked away and stolen by Javon Carter
12:30ahead to Bain
12:31Bain a pull up three
12:33no good again
12:34and the Pacers have the rebound
12:37it's about 1 of 9 in the distance
12:41Jairus Walker
12:43rolling right down the middle of the lane
12:46Walker has 7
12:47coming off 21 points
12:49at San Antonio on Saturday
12:55Mancaro operates against Huff
12:58another 3 by the magic
13:00this one is short
13:01rebounded by Siakam
13:05and Nembhardt beats everybody down
13:07for an easy lay in
13:09Andrew Nembhardt has 8
13:11and the Pacers build a 10 point lead
13:13one of the problems too David
13:15when you're relying on the 3
13:16and they're not going in
13:17in those long rebounds
13:18get the Pacers out
13:20and running
13:21before you can set your defense
13:254 of 18 for the floor
13:27that's the perfect storm for Indiana
13:31they want to get out and run
13:35Patazze checks in for Bain
13:39and Jett Howard has checked in as well
13:42Jett in for Bain
13:44and Patazze in for Wendell Carter Jr.
13:50for the Pacers T.J. McConnell
13:52for the Pacers T.J. McConnell
13:53on the floor as is
13:54Obi Toppin who's back from that
13:57broken foot sustained earlier in this season
14:00Mike Potter on the floor as well
14:04pass comes into Bain
14:06Caro and he's fouled by Toppin
14:08and should be before the ball came in
14:09I believe
14:10really close
14:10yeah really close
14:13now they're not going to rule that
14:18foul on top and he just checked in
14:20picks up a foul in less than a second
14:29out of the game
14:30that will be terrible
14:33back away another three this one is good
14:37Aloe's first field goal of the game makes it a 7-point Indiana league
14:43always gives indiana
14:45solid play off the bench a foul on javon carter and that's number two on him
14:50imagine cannot afford to get any of their guards in foul trouble tonight
14:55see palos three there they're just trying to switch and recover get back
15:00they'll be top and not getting out to him and
15:02pretty good job there comes chase richardson
15:06into the game for javon carter so jamal mosley going a little deeper on that
15:12bench tonight no jaylen sucks
15:17tonight so changes the rotations a little bit absolutely really only three guards
15:26available and jace has checked in javon with two personal fouls in the first
15:31quarter of the game
15:35then shepherd the jairus walker the jump shot no good but a rebound for potter
15:41shepherd walker
15:45mcconnell jairus walker fouled by btazze
15:54walker in their last five is his average sixteen points a game and he has been
15:58shooting at about fifty percent forty five percent from three well he's in a
16:02nice rhythm right now he's getting a good opportunity you know that's one of the
16:06things if you're you know you're indiana and the season is kind of lost to you
16:11and he gets a chance for young guys like jairus walker to get an opportunity for their lottery
16:21pick back in 2023
16:25walker the number eight pick in the 23 draft out of the university of houston
16:35and jairus walker has nine first quarter points for indiana
16:42indiana pacers surrendering about 120 plus points per game magic have had trouble scoring in the first quarter
16:52richardson will drive it on mcconnell step back jump shot is good by jace richardson
16:58rookie from michigan state he's gonna get a great opportunity tonight with magic
17:03being undermanned with that position get minutes yep mcconnell nothing there pitch
17:11out to shepherd the three no good batted out by walker
17:15pacers reload potter to tapin he'll shoot for three that looks good
17:21it'll be tapping only a 26 percent three-point shooter knocks his first one
17:26down tonight 10-point game again jamal kane that's no good for three and it is
17:35touched last they're gonna give it to the magic rick carlisle looking through his
17:41second road if they want to challenge this one
17:44the panel feeling pretty certain that he was not the last one to touch it shot clock and 14
17:54richardson howard another three this one's doing great job well executed inbound good screen jet moving very
18:03quickly to that spot before top it could contest 13 of orlando's 22 field goal attempts have come from beyond
18:10the three-point line
18:11tj mcconnell fumbled it hotter and an open three the rebound of the taz and
18:19and the loose ball foul on obi toppin
18:26we got timeout on the court 256 to play in the first quarter the pacers
18:31a seven-point lead in orlando from kia center game number 71
18:38in the 82 game regular season let's take a look at our orlando international airport around the nba
18:44and to see how tight the race is five six seven eight nine ten not a lot separating those six
18:52teams and only a game and a half so separating miami at number nine and toronto at number five
18:59all these games critical big ones tonight thunder out to an early lead against philly spurs lead the heat
19:06the grizzlies hawks later tonight and toronto is at utah
19:13jamal mosley's team desperately needs a victory in this one a tough schedule ahead of game tomorrow
19:20night in cleveland against the cavaliers here's bataze guarded by potter jet howard will drive and
19:28fumble the ball off of his leg out of bounds
19:33another magic turnover and that's now three for the ball club this is a critical time again for
19:40this team you got four bench players interested to silva who when everybody's healthy will be a bench player
19:50he's a jay mcconnell a pull-up shot that's his patented short-range jumper made a career out of those
19:59pull-up jump shots but 12 to 15 feet howard again handling the ball he'll fire miss the shot rebounded
20:08by
20:08jaris walker rondo shooting thirty percent from the floor and down by nine
20:16the three is no good the rebound scooped up off the floor by howard
20:23cindy at the team they're playing free and loose
20:27the silva now is making the three driving in and laying it in uncontested you just feel like it's there
20:34david it's ten points now in the painted area for the magic
20:40settling for a lot of threes in the first quarter
20:42looking for his spot dribbles into the corner
20:48topping to walker pass goes inside a beautiful feed but the shot rolls off the rim
20:55they're going to count the basket a goaltend
20:57i think is the call that's exactly what it was
21:03magic took it off the cylinder
21:07there it is right there and it slapped the backboard to silva
21:13two points for obi toppen
21:18richardson
21:19to the silver tower
21:21now it lowers his head dumps it inside of it's a the former pacer
21:26and it blocked by toppen and it's out of bounds back to the magic with only 2.5 on the
21:32shot clock
21:34obi toppen
21:36dunk champion from a few years back he can still rise high even though he's coming off an injury
21:44right broken foot in game number three
21:49but he has played in their recent games he's played in 10 of their last 12 top it he'll check
21:55out
21:57nebhard back in
21:59siakam as well
22:02Noah penda on the floor for the magic and bane bane catch and shoot three drills it
22:08first points of the game for the richmond indiana native desmond bane
22:16under a minute to go in the first quarter
22:22all out of bounds it's off the magic
22:32indiana's demhart looks to inbound it floats it out to mcconnell
22:39demhart coming off the screen cross court siakam
22:44backs it out with the shot clock ticking down to three and he banked it in for three
22:49uh-oh
22:50uh-oh
22:51it's going to be that kind of a night oh my goodness
22:54nine points for siakam nine point lead for indian penda his driving shot no good but taze the rebound
23:02he missed the follow
23:05charis walker comes up with the loose ball now potter
23:08pacers have numbers walker flying down the court
23:13missed the shot but he drew the foul it's on to silva
23:16they look up gonna put jarris walker on the free throw line to see how they want to get out
23:21and
23:21transition a little bit harder david when they you're making shots they're taking it out of bounds but
23:28they're scrambling for
23:30everything playing hard and
23:32they're being rewarded for it
23:35well the magic of missed 19 shots in the first quarter so there have been a lot
23:40of uh run out opportunity especially as we mentioned before on those missed threes
23:46long rebounds gets indiana really fueling their break they've got 13 fast break points here in the first quarter
24:07walkers and double figures that gives him 10 for the game it's a 10-point lead final seconds of the
24:13quarter
24:16christen to silva and it knocked away by siakam but got it back
24:22six seconds to go in the quarter desmond bain bain into the paint bain jump shot at the buzzer it's
24:29no good
24:31that's the end of the first quarter in orlando a 10-point lead for the pacers they're shooting
24:3763 percent the magic 31 for the floor earlier today alex martin was inducted into the orlando
24:46magic hall of fame an original member of the orlando magic staff brought in by pat williams one of the
24:52first people that pat williams employed to bring pro basketball to central florida and alex has played
25:00an integral role in virtually every major move by the magic and his commitment to the community
25:07history has just been incredible so a well-deserved honor for alex martins as he becomes the 14th hall
25:17of fame inductee in magic history and alex is making his way to join jeff turner and me here in
25:25the second
25:25quarter and hopefully he'll bring us a little luck on the on the basketball court because uh it's been all
25:34indiana so far 10 point lead for the pacers and well they're playing with a lot of confidence right
25:40now and playing very loose and free them hard three point shot no good potter tried to save it but
25:47could
25:47not and the magic had to stop on their first possession now let's welcome in alex barton so you
25:53got the microphone on this is familiar to you from many many many many years ago many many many we'll
25:59get
26:00into that we got to get into that that's a great we got to get into this game we got
26:03to get into the game
26:04the team has to get into the game we're in it me and jeff will tell you're in it that
26:10we're in
26:12there's bane and the silva wide open look for three and pops in and out chase richardson comes flying in
26:19for the following alex you could really use a big knife from jace yeah siakam missed the three to
26:27times a grab the rebound and the silva looking for two more that's pretty easy okay that's going
26:36to be a timeout we really enjoyed visiting with alex i'll take some of the credit
26:42so what what you got time to stick around what happens is when we have somebody in the second
26:47quarter we talk about with you and then the team wins that's the way it works all right good sorry
26:52we
26:52got a we've got a commercial break take a break more with alex when we come back
26:59alex martin is inducted into the magic hall of fame a look back through
27:03time and alex's time with the orlando magic started as what a 24 year old public relations
27:11director for the magic in 1989 one of pat williams first employee now we're going to talk to you alex
27:16with a timeout one minute into the court at least we made a good run there right right coach jamal's
27:24giving him the fist pop so how emotional has today been it's been really emotional i mean
27:30you and i started back in 1989 together and he was a player and he was a player and uh
27:36you know to
27:38think back on all those years i i never would have ever expected for today to happen
27:46well you worked awfully hard to get where you you got in the professional sports business world it
27:52didn't just happen you put in a lot of effort a lot of energy you left the organization for a
27:59short
27:59period of time and really i think that probably gave you a great appreciation for this franchise and
28:05the nba without a doubt and it also helped me see the perspective from other franchises i worked for
28:12an nfl franchise an nba another nba franchise you know it showed me the differences between our
28:20organization and others this organization stands above the rest there's no doubt about it
28:25the best organization in our league and i and i believe in any professional league
28:32we're talking early he was telling me a story about you being a student broadcaster for villanova's
28:40championship run back in 85 i mean alex your your life could have been completely different you could
28:47have been stuck here like david for your own career stuck here like david he's a hall of favor what
28:52are
28:52you talking about i've got the same job i had 37 years ago and you've done it well incredibly well
28:59you're a hall of famer but you know going on going back to your your student broadcasting days so imagine
29:05if there were an internet back then you could have been the high point student broadcasters you could
29:10have been a national phenomenon yeah instead we had we didn't have the equipment that you guys have here
29:18we had equipment malfunctions i called the first half of the 1985 national championship game on the
29:25telephone receiver oh man i remember those days i did some of those no it wasn't the coupler david i
29:32was on
29:33the receiver with the telephone to your head that's right that's great and then pat williams
29:43imagine how did you meet pat how did that relationship develop so it started at villanova and the the
29:50gentleman dave koski exactly who i worked with and worked for at the athletic department at villanova
29:58ended up becoming the public relations director for the 76ers and working with pat and so when pat
30:05came down here met jimmy hewitt you know started the process of trying to get an expansion franchise
30:12one that won the expansion franchise he called dave and said you know tell me who i should interview
30:17for pr director for the magic and dave said here's a list you know and he put me on the
30:23list and pat called
30:25me and you know offered me an interview and i came down here and met with he and jack swope
30:30and um long
30:32story short pat hired me and uh best thing that ever happened to me but that you know villanova
30:38connection is ultimately what led me to the nba and into my you know career in professional sports
30:47which number employee were you five six i no i look at there weren't many how many were ashley
30:54gazelle actually you know ran the ticket department she was one of the first and uh i think you were
31:00number two or number three um but i was probably nine or ten something like that that the first
31:06year 1989 total staff non-player 39 coaches 30 that many right sit powell who's still still with us
31:14who's still with us started in ticket sales and then ultimately became the equipment manager and of
31:20course he's the travel coordinator today you know some 36 years later chris dorso that's right
31:26was there on that staff he worked in there and and and the unsung heroes we talked about the unsung
31:32heroes today during you know that during the the ceremony and how about paul moletair and bill maugert
31:39right two guys who have worked in our box office since day one yeah right and you know just incredible
31:46employees this organization the backbone the unsung heroes i mean people like that you know that
31:53it started with us 36 well worth that
31:59alex as you look at the growth of you know around the nba the staffs and what it takes to
32:05run a
32:05franchise how how in the world did you do with 30 employees well jeff you you played during the year
32:11right and you know it was a different game yeah absolutely i mean it wasn't the big business that
32:16it is today right i mean it was a mom-and-pop type business um look
32:22with all due respect to the franchise values and you know thank you to our commissioner you know
32:28adam silver and and all of our owners i mean you know with the billions of the values that these
32:35franchises are worth now the devosses bought this franchise for 89 million dollars i remember right
32:41when you were still here and still playing and so that's how the business has changed right and so
32:47with that you know collectively as a league we're now over in a 12 billion dollar business
32:55we're a fortune 100 company as a league right but we were mom and pop you know small business when
33:05we
33:05all started back in 19 years that's uh david stern and then adam silver leadership of the nba david david
33:13when david took over as commissioner if you remember david you know our games were our finals
33:19were being broadcast on tape delay 1979 bird and magic right after after the late nightly news
33:27uh you know the finals were broadcast on tape delay and today you know we're one of the most popular
33:34television you know entities we're streamed around the world in over 200 countries
33:40um you know billions of nba fans you know as adam says you know one percent of nba fans around
33:48the
33:49world will see these games in in person right but we have billions of fans around the world that are
33:55watching streaming and watching you guys every night you know across the world on nba tv and streaming
34:01services etc it's it's become a completely different business and um you know thanks thanks to david and
34:08thanks to adam and to their team and all of our great staffs around the league
34:13kataze is going to the line to magic have a chance to take the lead with alex martin's brings the
34:19way
34:19it works so am i going to have to stay here all night if i take the lead let me
34:23tell you what if you
34:24walk away and this thing goes south again you're coming back coming right back you're sitting right
34:28here right next to it look we've been in this game long enough i mean if you stand in a
34:33certain spot
34:33and you're going to run you don't move from that spot that's so true you know you mentioned the devos
34:39family um the the devos family the way that they have set a culture and i'm talking about the entire
34:47group but but rich devos in the beginning was a great mentor of yours what did he mean to you
34:53well he was one of the biggest mentors you know in my career my life and rich you know was
34:59a
34:59a compassionate capitalist you know as you would put it yeah and i mean he was an incredible
35:05businessman but at the same time he understood the role that we play in our community that we need
35:12to play in our community orlando in a 12 to 2 run by the way that's good it's good nugget
35:18back to your
35:19broadcasting um but to sneak that in but um look rich rich told us from the very beginning you know
35:30first of all he always said he and his family were caretakers all right there we go magic take the
35:38lead
35:41caretakers of this franchise for the community and he always told us look
35:47this fan base is the most important thing that we have and we need to make sure that we take
35:53care of
35:54them and we need to take care of their community and you know he always taught us that we were
36:00the
36:01backbone of the community and that we needed to get back and that we were examples we were a pillar
36:06for
36:06the community and you know that's something that i carried with me my entire career and that
36:12we've carried here at the orlando magic you know rich rich was an incredible man and you know he told
36:19us to call us rich so i could call him rich but but um but you know he he led
36:27by example he saw the value
36:30of people he saw the value of what this organization did for our community and you know we try to
36:37live it
36:37every single day and giving back through the orlando magic youth foundation through you know volunteerism
36:47and uh he was he was a special man and you know his he and his family have been incredible
36:53owners i've
36:54always said the best owners in in our league and in professional sports and they've been incredible for
36:59this community and i know this community is incredibly indebted to them as well now you've put a lot into
37:07the community you're on the ucf board of trustees you're the chairman of the board of trustees i think
37:12until uh 2031 and i see that you got a few more i'm not the chairman until 2031. you're not
37:18the chairman
37:19until i'm chairman for another year and a half okay um but what about your involvement at ucf where did
37:25where did that come from and why do you feel like that's important i you know i've i've served in
37:33a
37:33lot of roles in our community on you know everything from the coalition for the homeless board to the
37:37chamber of commerce to the orlando economic partnership i say all the time that you know
37:43my role on the ucf board is the most fulfilling non-profit volunteer board that i've ever served on
37:54way to go paulo um we are watching a game here yeah we can watch it listen we can talk
38:03and watch sure
38:04but but you know it's it's fulfilling because you know you have such an impact on young people's lives
38:10you know the most incredible thing for me every you know commencement is to sit on that stage and watch
38:18you know those graduates come across and hear their name and see how proud they are wave up into the
38:25crowd you know to their families i mean it's an incredible accomplishment and you know to know that
38:31you had a small piece of helping to govern you know an entity a university uh that makes that kind
38:41of impact on people's lives and on their families it's it's really the most fulfilling thing that i've ever
38:47done i've been really fortunate that you know over a couple of governors that you know continue to be
38:54reappointed and i've worked with incredible trustees and uh we have an incredible president i mean alex
39:00cartwright is the best president you know in the state of florida one of the best presidents in the
39:07country and he's doing an incredible job and you know second largest university in the country
39:13it's incredible right over 70 000 students and a lot of people around the country don't know that
39:20but it's it's an incredible place well your head coach johnny dawkins was out uh today he came
39:27today hall of fame ceremony he made his way back from the ncaa's he had an unbelievable season
39:32he did congratulations to johnny and his entire team he's doing an amazing job there we're really proud of
39:38him and i'm proud of of the nights and the season today yeah great job and great job by you
39:43congratulations
39:43on the hall of fame we're gonna let you go all right you can next yeah but again if the
39:48game turns
39:48the other way he's right here i can grab you david he's sitting right next to me so i got
39:52him
39:53thanks alex yeah thank you
39:56for remaining games the land of magic dot com
40:03peter siaka that's great defense by tylo bandero just locked him up yep
40:11with kenny how that happens david in the second quarter we have a guest and the team goes on a
40:17run
40:17i bet it's happened every time did we bring a band love
40:21i don't know what it is but the people we bring in bringing good lights man everyone is what it
40:27is
40:28well that's nice jen howard and there is a foul i think it's on the magics on wendell carter jr
40:35yep
40:35that'll be number two on him count the buckets but after the play we do got
40:44tangled up one night second quarter after that sluggish start
40:50lando's outscored indiana 26 to 13. top of your screen right there you see wendell and
40:56like a part of potter got tangled up there
41:01potter three rebound jamal kane now ban caro brings it up the magic up by three with the ball
41:10man caro
41:13javon carter short jumper got it first bucket of the game for javon carter in the starting lineup
41:22for jaylen sucks tonight as you just turned it around they were doing a good job to get to the
41:27paint
41:27now 23 points in the vein after a slow start now that guy's got a lot of a lot of
41:34moves
41:38and that foul is on jamal kane pascal siakam the 31 year old veteran four-time nba all-star
41:46headed to the free throw line once again
41:49he is four out of four on the free throw line tonight not had a great year
41:55on the line 68 percent shoot 75 for his nba career
42:08nancy ockham cuts the magic lead to two
42:20randell carter jr picked up his dribble tried to pass to bancaro
42:25and he was being held by siakam
42:28didn't like the call
42:30rick carlisle arguing his players case but no challenge no challenge
42:38it's one of those siakam's like yeah i'm holding me but not that hard
42:44let's go back and look at it you see right here so he's got both hands around him not winning
42:49that chat
42:54palo on the free throw line again a 12 point first half for vancaro
43:00and that's his first miss on the free throw line vancaro and da silva
43:05both have a dozen for the magic gwendell has six
43:10jet howard seven off the bench
43:21nebhardt brings it up quickly for indiana
43:25carol hands him on that switch now siakam against gwendell carter jr
43:29the back the spin the fadeaway jumper it's good wow
43:35siakam
43:37he's missed a number of games with injuries they have only won one game when he did not play
43:43the one in 14
43:45when he doesn't play so 14 of their 15 wins have come when he has played
43:50hello bad caro two more for the magic he gives him a really good guy they could anchor their office
43:58they've gotten away with a right arm the extension pushing javon carter out of the way
44:13he's got 18 in the first half he had 34 the last time these two clubs met in early january
44:20he had to switch it up gave it into a little bit of a zone defense here
44:25and that'll set up at zero for a wide open three-pointer
44:30now is third may three of the night
44:34he matches siakam with 18 first half points
44:39pastel going to work again the back shot no good the rebound taken by shepard
44:45to joel walker now shepard with an open three got second chance three
44:52for indiana and the lead is cut to one
44:57magic and the pacers in a one-point game late in the first half in orlando
45:058 57 minute 49 to go
45:09in this first half our spectrum staff leaders
45:12kevin durant passed michael jordan for fifth place on the all-time nba scoring list
45:18brought james an incredible 43 241 points but kd moving into the top five and passing
45:26the great michael jordan kobe carl malone and kareem abdul jabbar
45:36what a great time in nba history so many great young players
45:41like that carol and then some of the older guys are still playing at a very high level
45:46fan carol speaking of playing at a high level 20 in the first half for p5
45:52did i read where kevin durant when asked about it said i got what four more to go
45:58my goodness oh how about that
46:03carter stole the ball but we now stand out of bounds
46:06must have bounced it maybe on the line
46:10landals up like three minute 29 to play indiana still shooting 55 percent from before this guy has
46:18been difficult to stop all night long and he gets two more give him 20 in the first half just
46:25looked
46:25like he really didn't want to shoot that he was looking to pass but just kind of hung in the
46:30air able
46:30to get it to go
46:33there's contact away from the ball and i think potter and carter jr got tangled up
46:42no it's on them hard hard away from the ball carter and potter were locked up at the top of
46:49the
46:49circle but there was activity away from there mr is going to come out of the game and t.j
46:56mcconnell
46:56will replace him that's three fouls on andrew nimhart
47:03magic have only been to the line eight times in the first half now they've taken 24 three-point shots
47:13carter's having a great year on the line shooting 79 percent
47:30carter gives the magic a three-point lead again
47:33two and a 12 by 10 in the first quarter
47:43carter swings at the kneesmith
47:46here in the spin with the fake the fade away jumper it is short rebounded by the magics
47:51Wendell Carter jr.
47:58And zero with 20 first-hand points holding the ball against the Siakam's now
48:03goes to work Wendell set a screen turnaround fadeaway shot good off the
48:09back iron in clock at 28 the shot clock at 19
48:15D.J. McConnell drifting to the left side against Jen Howard
48:23you see three-point attempt no good rebound Javad Carter with plenty of time to play in the court
48:35Vanquero that's match up against the I'm a great one in the first half
48:39Wendell set a giant screen Vanquero gets to the rim and lays it in just in the nick of time
48:47what a great screen out top Wendell Carter jr.
48:51Well it gives Paolo some room but it also puts Micah Potter matched up against Paolo off the dribble
48:57no chance and you see the ball out of his hands before the red light comes on terrific take by
49:05P5
49:09and that will give the Magic their biggest lead of the first half and 22 points for Paolo Bancaro
49:18let's send you across the way to Dante Marquettello is a main basket
49:22appreciate it Jace you guys were down 10 in that first half you're part of a second unit
49:25they got the team going well how were you able to provide a spark
49:28I think physicality I think they came out early and hit us in the mouth and I think the physicality
49:33is really what set it off and you know we had to come out more physicality
49:37offensively move move more
49:38how do you continue that here in the second half obviously Siakam and Walker have it going what's going to
49:43be key in the second half
49:44just staying disciplined defensively I mean he's getting a lot of tough looks
49:46he's hitting tough shots so you know just staying solid and staying disciplined
49:49good luck in the second half
49:50Jace Richardson off to a terrific start he's got seven points in the first half and the Magic erased a
49:56double-figure deficit and they have a five-point lead here at the break
50:00we're going to come back I'll be joined by Nick Anderson we will recap all the first half action
50:04the Magic lead this one 64 to 59 Nick Anderson in the Magic halftime report when we return in a
50:11moment
50:16basketball presented by Land Rover Orlando
50:22there's your halftime score the Magic trailed by 10 early in the game but rallied in the second quarter to
50:28take
50:28a five-point halftime lead 40 to 25 in favor of the Magic in quarter number two
50:33Vancaro really asserting himself sort of Tristan to Silva in that first half second quarter in particular nice boost from
50:40Tristan to Silva
50:41I felt like in the second quarter they really got a chance to get out and get in transition
50:46little driving kick there Tristan knocking down the long ball
50:51Tristan with a couple of made threes but here we go in transition just in attack mode
50:57once again just finding a spot as the Magic did a much better job of attacking the paint in that
51:05second quarter
51:08our Kia player profile on Tristan to Silva shows you his first half number
51:14and again those five fast break points much better by the Magic getting out in transition
51:21we know that's what they want to do get to the free throw line all good there
51:27let's check in with Dante Marcatelli
51:31all right David thank you very much coach a great job in that second quarter what changed and what's it
51:35going to take here in the second half
51:36we did a great job of responding in that second a big thing for us before this game we're just
51:39controlling the things that we can control spring back in transition
51:42being one of them finishing the possessions be another 14 fast break points in our first quarter two in the
51:48second change the game for us
51:49we got to do a great job in the second half keep them out of transition keeping the three ball
51:52out the game and then last
51:53they finish in possessions with a rebound great breakdown good luck in the second half appreciate it doctor see if
51:58they can limit those areas here in the second half guys
52:00you know those 14 fast break points in the first quarter
52:03that changes thing of course as we said it helps when you're making shots that's the magic they get 15
52:10shots there in the second quarter
52:14and the first possession is a missed shot by Nembhardt for Indiana Carter right down the middle
52:23no contest whatsoever they just they're not a good defensive team to begin with and if they can't get their
52:29defense set
52:30they really struggle so they shot better than 50 percent in the first half and that helped them keep the
52:36magic from running off misses as curious
