00:00on Smith.
00:02Nothing like being able to say for the rest of your life
00:05you hit a game winning, game seven home run to win a World Series.
00:10And that's what Will Smith can say.
00:13And then the job he did with the pitching staff
00:16in Yamamoto who was heroic during that World Series.
00:21That was as good a World Series to watch on my couch
00:23as anything I've seen in a long time.
00:27Here's a one-two.
00:29That's up the middle and a two-out base hit.
00:32Got it right off the end of the bat.
00:35The common narrative when somebody signs a big long-term contract
00:39is there's pressure and is he trying too hard?
00:42Will Smith signed a 10-year deal.
00:45And we have never seen it change his heartbeat,
00:48change pressure situations,
00:50change what he does to prepare himself
00:53and to go out there and be consistent
00:55and really elite at this level.
00:57And the Dodgers expect it for years and years to come.
01:01People tend to forget that he did not start early in the postseason
01:04because he was coming back from an injury.
01:08Check swing and able to hold up was Teoscar Hernandez.
01:15Well, he's been an iron man when you talk about Will Smith.
01:21126-plus games played for the last five years.
01:26Hernandez fouls it.
01:28One ball, one strike.
01:29Dodgers get two runs with two out, nobody on in the second.
01:32And here we have two out, nobody on,
01:34and Will Smith gets the base hit,
01:36and you've got a power hitter at the plate again.
01:39That is the length of this lineup.
01:46That's strike two to the man who's number two in home runs on this Dodger team
01:52since he joined the organization.
01:57Batting in the cleanup spot,
01:59and Holmes has him at one and two.
02:01That's a cutter from Clay Holmes,
02:03a pitch that he just put in his arsenal this season.
02:11Big right-hander works at home.
02:13And well hit into center.
02:15It sounded good.
02:15Back on the track is Robert to make the catch.
02:22Hernandez gave it a ride.
02:24Fell short.
02:25Still two.
02:26You're standing with Mets manager Carlos Mendoza.
02:29You're missing Juan Soto.
02:30What's the latest on his progress?
02:33He ran today, took some live at-bats back in New York in Citi Field.
02:37He continues to progress well,
02:40and the goal is for him to hopefully play at some point during our next home time.
02:45You've been around teams that have struggled offensively.
02:47What do you try to do as manager when this happens?
02:50Stay consistent.
02:51You've got to stay consistent, stay positive with the guy.
02:53They're working.
02:54You've got to continue to push them, continue to teach them.
02:57And yeah, just never panic.
03:00There's a sense of urgency.
03:02We've got to keep going.
03:03Carlos, thanks.
03:04Joe, back to you.
03:05All right, Buster, thank you.
03:06So a little bit of news there.
03:08As two foul balls has Luis Robert Jr.
03:11in the hole, nothing and two,
03:13in that Carlos said that hopefully in the next homestand,
03:17Mets get Juan Soto back.
03:19That would be a welcome sight.
03:21Yeah, I think it's crucial right now that they get him back sooner than later.
03:25He had 11 at-bats today
03:28to go along with that running.
03:31Year two of his big 15-year $765 million deal.
03:37Here's a 1-2 to Robert.
03:40Got him.
03:41Ohtani strikeout number six.
03:43And out number one here in the fourth.
03:45He has established the fastball and it is setting up the breaking stuff.
03:50And again, he's on the side of the ball, spinning it.
03:52That one with a little more downward movement than other breaking balls we've seen.
03:56But Shohei has established the up fastball and putting it by the Mets.
04:00And now, as he's sped him up, we're going to walk him off the plate.
04:06And bring in Brett Beatty.
04:13Beatty grounded out.
04:14Saw one pitch and grounded out his first time up.
04:17Takes high for ball one.
04:19They worked hard with Beatty in spring training.
04:22He played a lot of different positions, came up as a third baseman.
04:25He now plays second.
04:26He's at first base tonight.
04:28He's played some right field as well.
04:31Straight one.
04:32But like the rest of the Mets, just waiting for his bat to heat up.
04:36And kind of the new version of Jeff McNeil.
04:38There you go.
04:40Waiting in New York is hard.
04:43The hardest part, right?
04:45It's like being in traffic.
04:47But people are yelling at you.
04:49One wide pitch is grounded foul.
04:52Straight two.
04:52Well, they do that here as well.
04:55Yeah, it's different.
04:56But, yeah.
04:58Come to St. Louis.
04:59We don't have any traffic.
05:00Oh, I thought you were going to say you have no yelling.
05:02Yeah.
05:03Yeah.
05:04Depends on who you are.
05:08Two and two.
05:12Beatty grounded out that first time.
05:16First left-handed batter
05:19to try and get on basely door.
05:22The switch hitter.
05:23Lefty's one for 26 so far this season against Ohtani coming into this game.
05:30And he's allowed just the one hit.
05:32That was two Malengas.
05:33And this is Ohtani.
05:35It'll just take it to the bag himself.
05:37Two out.
05:38I mean, it's not many times
05:40the pitcher fields the ball
05:41and he's faster than anyone else on the field.
05:44Just sprints it over there.
05:45One unassisted.
05:48What was interesting before he delivered that pitch, Oral,
05:51is he slow played him.
05:52He waited till the clock got to one
05:54before he delivered the ball.
05:55Had Beatty kind of cemented into the box.
06:04Breaking ball misses for ball one.
06:07Bichette grounded out his first time.
06:12He does have one home run as a Met.
06:18Did take Ohtani deep in the World Series last year
06:22with a three-run shot in Game 7.
06:28He was a Blue Jay, now a New York Met.
06:332-0 pitch from Ohtani.
06:35Chopped to the left of Kim.
06:38He's homered tonight and makes that play with no issue.
06:43Just one base runner tonight for the Mets.
06:46Bottom of the fourth rolls in.
06:47Dodgers bat up two.
06:49And visit MLBtogether.com slash 42 to learn more.
06:57Max Muncy will lead it off for L.A.
06:59and take a ball.
07:00I don't know that people realize it.
07:02For as great a career as Jackie Robinson had,
07:05because of segregation and the war,
07:08he didn't come up until he was 28.
07:10So some of his peak years were lost.
07:13He was a world-class athlete at UCLA.
07:15He lettered in four sports.
07:19Just an incredible athlete, man.
07:25Groundbreaker, you name it.
07:27He had it all.
07:29And MLB in this country celebrates Jackie Robinson on this day.
07:35Across the game and across the United States.
07:40When I think of Jackie Robinson day,
07:42I think it's our holiest day when you think about it.
07:46Baseball is a game of failure and imperfections.
07:50And we know that on April 15, 1947,
07:53that was baseball's most perfect day.
07:57Ball and two strikes on Muncy
08:00and a little double hit.
08:02TC Chen from Max Muncy
08:05as we welcome you into the broadcast.
08:07We'll say this.
08:07We're talking about Jackie Robinson.
08:09If you have the chance,
08:10go to the Jackie Robinson Museum in New York.
08:14It is phenomenal what they did.
08:18Bob Kendrick was here
08:19and is still here
08:20from the Negro Museum in Kansas City.
08:24And his stories
08:25and the way he keeps Jackie
08:27and all those players alive to this day
08:29and the impact they made
08:31and how good they were on the field
08:33and how much they endured off the field
08:35and how much progress they made off the field
08:38for America, not just baseball.
08:42Robinson led the 1947 Dodgers
08:46and hits, runs scored, home runs,
08:50tied with Piri Reese with 12 in home runs
08:55and stolen bases and Rookie of the Year
08:57and the Rookie of the Year award
08:59named after him.
09:01First pitch of ball, Pajas, strike one.
09:08We can get really romantic about Jackie Robinson day
09:10but I don't want people to forget
09:13what he endured and the stories
09:15and that can bring down a telecast
09:17of thinking about the things that he did
09:19but it was radical what he was doing
09:22and it was needed
09:23and without him being as brave as he was
09:26to go through the prejudice from teammates,
09:29from opposition, from fans,
09:31from where he could eat,
09:33where they could buy gas,
09:34all the different things that he had to go through
09:36and the teammates that supported him
09:38and also Rachel.
09:41It's unbelievable to feel so good
09:44about what happened
09:44but it's, do not forget
09:46how tough he was
09:48and how graceful he was
09:49through that toughness.
09:53Pajas is hit by the pitch.
09:54He will go down to first.
09:58Okay, he didn't appreciate it.
10:00No one appreciates when they get hit
10:02with a fastball right in the middle of the back.
10:04Oh, that went off the shoulder.
10:07But if you're a hitter
10:08and you're red hot,
10:09your first thought is
10:10we're trying to come up and in
10:12to try to stop me
10:13from being as hot as I am.
10:15A little anger there.
10:18One on, one out
10:19for Dalton Rushing
10:20who doubled and scored
10:22his first time.
10:23Ripped one into the right field corner
10:25back in the second.
10:26Scored in the home run
10:27by Hesong Kim.
10:31Strike one.
10:35For this young left-handed
10:37hitting catcher
10:38who is DH-ing tonight.
10:40Last 11 plate appearances.
10:42Seven for ten
10:43with five extra base hits.
10:44Three home runs.
10:46And he's been hit by a pitch.
10:49Strike two.
10:50I think a couple of those home runs
10:52in Toronto were breaking balls
10:53that he hit out of the park as well.
10:55That's a big step forward for him
10:57because last year
10:58knowledge of the strike zone
11:00was lacking.
11:01Trying too hard
11:02to continue to
11:03like make an impression
11:05with every at-bat
11:06like he could hit
11:06a three-run homer
11:07no matter if there was nobody on.
11:12And then the spin
11:13was getting to him
11:14because he came to the big leagues
11:16as you said
11:16with minor leaguers
11:17that come up
11:18with a reputation
11:19and with all the stats
11:21of what you were hitting
11:22down there in the minors.
11:300-2 pitch
11:31gets away
11:32and down to second
11:34goes Pajes.
11:45So the wild pitch
11:47runner in second
11:48one out
11:48and an RBI chance
11:50now for rushing
11:51made a little bit easier.
11:53When you get hit
11:55and you're on base
11:56the best salve
11:58for your injury
11:59is scoring
12:00against the pitcher
12:01that hit you.
12:05Rushing would like
12:06to give him that thrill
12:07one-two pitch
12:09strikeout on a good pitch
12:10two away
12:11and strikeout number three
12:12on the night
12:13for Clay Holmes.
12:25Oh good
12:25sweeping breaking ball
12:27from Clay Holmes
12:28underneath the bat.
12:35Heson Kim
12:37with a home run
12:38what a chance
12:39he's getting.
12:40The injury
12:41to Mookie Batsu
12:42if you don't know it
12:43has made the shift
12:45he did it last year
12:45to shortstop
12:46he's on the I.L.
12:47with a strained oblique.
12:50Still
12:51really hasn't done
12:52real baseball activities
12:53just trying to move
12:54around right now
12:55is Mookie Betts
12:56so Kim
12:57has a chance
12:58to play regularly
13:00and try to make
13:01the most of it
13:01as he's set up here
13:02at nothing and two.
13:04There's Mookie.
13:07Kim didn't break camp
13:08with the team
13:09but was called up
13:10when Mookie was down
13:11and he was very impressive
13:13in the spring
13:14and it was easy
13:14for them to call him up
13:16but he was killing it
13:17in triple A.
13:17Freeland made the team
13:19over Kim right?
13:20Yep.
13:20They were in a little bit
13:21of a contest.
13:24And now they're
13:25the double play combo
13:26for the world champs
13:27a strikeout
13:28ends the inning
13:29and that's
13:30Clay Holmes
13:31striking out the side
13:32and now hoping
13:34for some run support.
13:36Fifth inning
13:37Dodger Stadium
13:38Mets back
13:39BTV
13:41fifth inning
13:42Mets bat
13:45down two
13:46and they have
13:47their catcher
13:47Francisco Alvarez
13:49with Carson Benz
13:50the rookie
13:50and Marcus Simeon
13:53the hitters here
13:54in the fifth
13:552-0 from Otani.
14:00Contact has been light
14:01against Otani so far.
14:03Only two balls
14:04have left the infield
14:05and we've got the
14:06K's that are mounting up
14:08at six
14:11trying to unload
14:12with a count in his favor
14:14it's two and one
14:17the Mets
14:18if they are not able
14:19to get a hit
14:20in this inning
14:21it'll mean the third
14:22straight game here
14:23in Los Angeles
14:24where they've only had
14:25one hit through five
14:292-1 pitch
14:33those are some
14:34well-located fastballs
14:36you go low and away
14:37near the corner
14:37then you go
14:38a riser kind of
14:39up and in
14:40up and in
14:41and low and away
14:41has worked
14:42since like 1900
14:46three and two
14:57full count pitch
14:58breaking ball is high
15:00and that is walk
15:01number one on the night
15:03and the second base
15:05runner for the Mets
15:06and maybe that gets
15:07something started here
15:08in the fifth
15:08the second half of that
15:10scouting report back in the
15:11day
15:12up and in
15:13low and away
15:15throw him strikes
15:16but don't walk
15:22Alvarez is on and Ben
15:24she grounded out to third
15:26his first time
15:28faces Ohtani
15:29and takes ball one
15:30Ben should a home run
15:32in opening day
15:33against the Pirates
15:35then things got very tough
15:36in the next
15:37six seven eight games
15:39but his at-bats have been
15:40much better
15:41the last three games
15:46he's had some
15:47some streaks snapped an 0
15:48for twenty four streak
15:49with a base hit last week
15:51last Wednesday
15:52at a three for thirty three
15:56streak going he's late on
15:57that one ball one strike as
15:59he fouls it left side
16:00in fact one of the few
16:01people to get a hit off
16:02Yamamoto yesterday with a
16:03base hit in the eighth
16:05inning
16:10when you don't get to
16:11Robleski in game one and
16:12you got Yamamoto and Ohtani
16:14coming
16:15not a good formula for
16:17offense
16:18there's a strike you said
16:20it early in the ballgame
16:21moral there's never been a
16:22Japanese born pitcher to win
16:24a Cy Young Award and Dave
16:26Roberts
16:27has two candidates here in
16:29twenty twenty six and they
16:30both want it really bad
16:35here comes a one two pitch
16:38that's into left field and
16:40base hit it skipped in and
16:43they're going to get the force
16:44out at second and so it's one
16:50on one out as Alvarez is
16:52forced out at second base he
16:54thought it might be caught he
16:55was caught in no man's land and
16:57a short hop pickup by Teoscar
17:00Hernandez throws into second for
17:02the force well good effort here
17:05by Teoscar he was very
17:07aggressive in the first two
17:08two games of this series he comes
17:10up with it and the base running
17:12just faulty here good good
17:14hitting by the young bench to get
17:17this was supposed to be a base
17:18hit but Alvarez and hustling back
17:20the first lost sight of the ball
17:23the second base umpire did not
17:25call it a non catch but the third
17:27base umpire did right away so the
17:31force out at second Mendoza just
17:32got back to the dugout came out
17:34there to question the play but
17:37it was clearly no catch and
17:39Alvarez was basically standing at
17:41first base on the force out at
17:43second one on one out the
17:45batter is simian so you get a
17:48base hit in essence and you
17:50don't get a base hit rarely is a
17:52ball hit in the air that touches
17:54outfield grass that doesn't
17:56become a hit he was pitching to
17:59the seven four force out first
18:04pitch ball now simian takes
18:05another let's go back to the
18:07base running of Alvarez yeah
18:09what you have to do here ball on
18:11the line and he's diving get
18:12plenty of time to get back you've
18:14got to get out there halfway
18:15stop and watch and see what the
18:18umpire calls and proceed once he
18:20says that the ball hits some
18:21grass to a pitch here and
18:24simian takes ball three this is
18:25just the third time that Otani's
18:28had a three ball count against
18:30any hitter tonight and it's
18:32three you know on simian with
18:34MJ Melendez who has the only
18:35hit tonight for the Mets on deck
18:413-0 3-1 the leadoff walk in
18:46this inning was Otani's first
18:48leadoff walk as a Dodger that's
18:52how fundamentally sound he has
18:53been that can't come out that
18:55cannot be true that's true you
18:57know Dr. Kurjewski has come
18:58over from the Dodger broadcast
19:00and is helping us out here with
19:02ESPN wow that is first leadoff
19:07walk pitching as a Dodger that is
19:09another walk here in the inning it's
19:12been a walk that weird force out at
19:14second now another walk and we'll
19:16see if Melendez who doubled in his
19:18first at bat as a Met this year in
19:21left center field can do something
19:23with this chance the other first we
19:29mentioned is Otani pitching as a
19:32Dodger and not hitting first time
19:34ever in a Dodger uniform so we don't
19:40get the thrill of watching him hit and
19:41by the way in case anybody's
19:43wondering in case anybody's wondering
19:46about Otani eventually hitting in
19:50this game it will not happen according
19:52to Dave Roberts he's gonna give the
19:55night off he got hit in the back of
19:57the shoulder his pitching shoulder on
19:59Monday just gonna pitch no hitting
20:02tonight kind of no matter what two on one
20:08out breaking ball straight one we've
20:12seen 98 and now we see 74 just a 24
20:16mile an hour difference go get him
20:23Melendez doubled his first time and
20:25now hooks one into right back is
20:27Tucker can't get to it and it's a
20:30ground rule double that will put the
20:32Mets on the board how about MJ
20:34Melendez he's doubled twice he's
20:37driven in a run and he's cut the
20:38Dodgers lead in half here in the
20:40fifth
20:46Tucker got a little bit of a late
20:47jump on that but Melendez got the
20:50bat out in front so he got a lot of
20:53contact on this and it carried more
20:55than you usually see here at Dodger
20:57Stadium and one bounce over the wall
20:59two doubles you want to win friends
21:02and influence people MJ Melendez night
21:05number one what a debut as a Matt here
21:11in this ballgame just called up he's
21:13doubled twice and now opportunity for
21:15Tommy Pham who was added this week
21:21strike one base hit that should likely
21:26be leading chased it strike two better
21:30veteran leadership right here is about
21:32making contact Dodger infield all the
21:35way back you're brought in to be a
21:38veteran leader to concentrate on the
21:40basics of the game and now with the
21:420-2 count making it tougher strike out
21:48on three pitches two away
21:54and strikeout number seven tonight for
21:56Ohtani you can see Tommy Pham is hot
22:00because he didn't come through here
22:02there's a foul tip right into the
22:04glove of Will Smith
22:12well now Lindor
22:13leading a two out hit
22:15strike one
22:20a hundred miles an hour here in the
22:22fifth
22:24the run that scored here in the fifth
22:26inning ends the scoreless streak with
22:29regard to earned runs against Ohtani at
22:31thirty three straight innings you're
22:34safe oral here's a line drive into
22:36left
22:37Hernandez makes the play he was
22:40breathing down your neck don't give
22:41me that don't give me fifty nine
22:43innings thirty three innings come on
22:47that's fine just save it for the next
22:49inning
22:51Ohtani gets out of the inning it's
22:532-1 game
22:55the official source for your favorite
22:57team gear
22:59on this Jackie Robinson day and night
23:02here
23:03at Dodger Stadium home of the Dodgers
23:08LA leading two to one bottom of the
23:10fifth inning
23:11and Alex Freeland takes a strike
23:14no you usually talk about a
23:16shutdown inning for a pitcher
23:18after your team was taking the lead
23:20but because they haven't been able to
23:21score this is feels like a
23:23shutdown inning for Clay Holmes
23:25gotta have it gotta have a zero
23:27good pitch there strike two
23:29and I think he's feeling a little bit
23:31of hope
23:32you know the zero goes up there you're
23:35like oh here we go again but one
23:37it's like oh game on
23:42number nine hitter struck out his
23:44first time off
23:50ball one
23:51some action now for the Dodgers in
23:54their bullpen
23:59Blake Trinan
24:00is getting loose
24:03here's a 1-2
24:06right at the second baseman
24:07Simeon
24:08one away
24:12and back to the top of the order
24:14and Kyle Tucker
24:23well with Trinan getting ready
24:26I think it could be easy to overlook
24:29what Ohtani just did in the top of
24:32this inning
24:33you got the strikeout after that
24:35double lead had been cut in half
24:37he got Lindor on the fly ball to
24:38left
24:40here's one popped up a mile high on
24:42the infield and Beatty and foul
24:44ground outside first has it two
24:46down
24:50big time pitching from Ohtani and
24:53we'll see if this night is finished
24:56or not when the Dodgers take the
24:57field of the sixth
24:58you know Dave Roberts intimated to
25:01us before the game that he was going
25:03to really be careful with Ohtani in
25:06this game because of a completely
25:08rested bullpen
25:10and the hit by pitch on Monday
25:11night he's not hitting in this
25:13game so
25:16would be in line for the win if
25:18the Dodgers were to hang on
25:21Freeman takes a strike
25:28by the way guys after that double
25:31by MJ Melendez the former Kansas
25:33City Royal Ohtani through his
25:35four hardest fastballs of the game
25:37all over 100 miles per hour
25:420-2 pitch Freeman takes the ball
25:47Dodgers starting pitching in this
25:49series 20 and two-thirds innings
25:51only two runs given up
25:56but it's just a one-run game
25:58because of the pitching of Clay
25:59Holmes and a 1-2 from Clay is
26:02inside
26:03in this game the Mets go on to
26:04Chicago from here they got a day
26:06off no better flight than if you
26:09were able to steal one here in
26:11game three against the champions
26:19that is a foul tip still two and
26:22two it's really remarkable what
26:27Clay Holmes has done lots of relief
26:29pitchers have tried to transition
26:32to a starter very few are
26:34successful and he had a full
26:36season last year where he was one
26:38of their best and most effective
26:40starters second in the NFL you
26:44see a lot of corners the
26:46transition to safety when they
26:48lose a step back a little deeper
26:51they can cover a little bit more
26:52ground but you don't see a lot of
26:54safeties who go up the corner and
26:56it's like this guy Holmes going from
26:58the bullpen in short stints to
27:00stretching out in his 30s and really
27:04being a starter for the first time
27:06ever in the big leagues and he's
27:08been around a while now yeah since
27:09his rookie year in fact his first
27:10start of his rookie season was
27:13against the Dodgers in 2018 all the
27:16way back then but I talked to him and
27:19he said this year he would like to
27:21have a little more early contact
27:23because of his ground ball rate to
27:25keep that pitch countdown misses
27:30down and it had a team high 12 wins
27:32last year so the experiment works
27:36ended up with 165 innings pitched
27:39and that's how his career has gone
27:44strictly a reliever up until last
27:47year after that early work as a
27:49Pittsburgh Pirate
27:53that road usually goes the opposite
27:55direction starters to become
27:58closers you think about Rigetti
27:59Eckersley Smoltz even Eric Gagne
28:02where the Dodger uniform was a
28:04failed starter before he was the
28:05man Freeman hit that ball behind
28:09him I threw a pitch once in St.
28:14Lewis that Mike Lago oh yeah I was
28:16there that night hit out of the
28:18stadium out of the stadium very
28:19similar to that you threw that
28:22pitch there you go a trivial
28:25pursuit it's the only ball that ever
28:28left that ballpark here's a pitch
28:30down and in for a two-out walk to
28:33Freeman Mike Lago left-handed big big
28:37is a big left-handed hitting first
28:39baseman for the court I mean I know he
28:41had tons of home runs in the minor
28:43leagues and you know was stopped
28:46from being in that position because
28:47you guys had a number 37 that you
28:49traded to the Mets Keith Hernandez
28:51yeah he was pretty good yeah it's
28:53pretty you think Keith is watching
28:55this game oh absolutely yeah we wish
28:57him well because he just had back
28:59surgery yesterday so Keith get better
29:01because if you don't then I'm doing
29:03all the games please yeah I heard you
29:06want your workload to stay where it's at
29:09we're trying to suppress it you know
29:12Keith was so nice that he didn't tell
29:15me this when we were playing of course
29:17but he said you know if you'd have
29:18thrown more fastballs into me you
29:19would have been a lot tougher to hit
29:22like thanks a lot for telling me when
29:23I'm 50 years old
29:24that's right
29:27that's you I walk to Freeman and
29:29Will Smith will step to the plate
29:31try to make Clay Holmes pay for that
29:33there's an 11 pitch walk Freeman on
29:38base for the second time tonight good
29:41pitch jam Smith a bit strike one
29:46well if this guy is an underrated
29:49catcher and player his manager Dave
29:52Roberts is the most underrated
29:54manager I think I've maybe ever
29:57covered
30:00and people just go on their payroll
30:01okay yeah it doesn't work that way
30:05this guy is a leader of men and
30:07somebody who has done a phenomenal
30:10job he's won one manager of the year
30:12award while this Dodger team every
30:14year is in the postseason and he is
30:16the guy getting them there
30:18that is caught by Lindor
30:24and we'll go to the sixth
30:28will the Dodgers go to their bullpen
30:31MVP is back for another inning and we
30:34look at some of his night playing a
30:36little 4d chest on the 3-2 pitch
30:38doesn't lift his leg and kind of slide
30:42steps and gets Lindor then he took the
30:44clock all the way down to one second
30:46and then with the comebacker the
30:48fastest guy in the field swing and a
30:51miss on high heat to Luis Robert who is
30:550-2 tonight made a diving catch out in
30:59center field for one of the highlights
31:02of the evening the 0-1 pitch from
31:03Otani is fouled away strike two with
31:06Trinan still up for the Dodgers in
31:09their bullpen you would have to guess
31:10just in case something gets going
31:12Blake is throwing in earnest down
31:14there it is not just exercise or kind
31:17of watching the game he is getting ready
31:19for a specific hitter I think 0-2 pitch
31:24outside
31:25Ohtani walked to last inning
31:29he's given up two hits both doubles to
31:34MJ Melendez
31:36and his first night with the Mets
31:40strikeout starts the inning and that's
31:48one run game Brett Beatty will hit as we
31:50look at the strikeout pitch we have
31:52seen the elevated fastball and its
31:54effectiveness tonight against these
31:56Mets he is not back down from that
31:57pitch at all 18 swings and misses new
32:01Dodger high for Ohtani that misses for
32:08football 1
32:17Beatty has grounded out twice
32:26left-handers with very little success
32:29before tonight against Ohtani but we've
32:33seen Melendez with the only two hits
32:35from the left side
32:36a pair of doubles in our RBI
32:392-0 on Beatty
32:442-1
32:51and there it is
32:55Melendez has been the offense for
32:58New York
33:00Beatty on 2-1
33:02tried to hold up couldn't strike 2
33:08in this game of the most velocity the
33:11game has ever had
33:13very rarely see a 2-1 or 2-0 fastball
33:22I love the fact that he's mixing his
33:24pitches that the foundational pitches
33:26the foreseen fastball but he is not
33:28afraid to pull the trigger on anything
33:36anything else
33:38pretty good battle here with Beatty
33:41the first splitter his arm kind of
33:43dropped a little bit it was a little
33:45flatter oral
33:49when one out to to pitch back to back
33:54strikeouts down all the way to 72
33:57miles an hour he's gone over a
34:01hundred and now down as low as 72
34:03with this slow curve ball it's a he
34:14has seven pitches it feels like he's
34:15making up more pitch number 93 on
34:18the night strike one on Bichette a
34:23little bit like you Darvish in his
34:24prime
34:32that was more of a challenge for the
34:34catcher when there's no pitch come
34:36sure
34:39is he going to strike out the side
34:41here in the sixth
34:48Bichette big free agent after the Mets
34:51did not land Kyle Tucker they shifted
34:54went with Bichette then he shifted
34:56now he plays third base
34:59long time big league shortstop
35:01second base last year with his bad
35:03knee
35:04Otani strikes out the side
35:06Dodgers keep rolling
35:08Mets still struggling
35:10in the bottom of the sixth inning
35:12Dodger Stadium rolls in
35:15going Denver in the all-star game
35:16he's been doing everything for the
35:18Angels that entire first half
35:20he said yes to the home run
35:22Derby
35:24he thought man this what more does
35:26this guy have
35:27and then there he is in the all-star
35:30game pitching and doing his thing
35:31he's I think he gets the big
35:34picture
35:35and
35:37knows
35:39what he is doing it's never been
35:41done every so well it hasn't been
35:43done since Babe Ruth no no
35:44Babe Ruth did not do what Otani is
35:48doing is a shot to right back at the
35:51wall it is gone
35:56Alvarez
35:59Teoscar Hernandez has now made it a 3-1
36:03ball game
36:06how about that jump the opposite way off the
36:08bat of Teoscar Hernandez his fourth of the year
36:12and that's how Tobias Myers the new pitcher for the
36:15Mets is greeted with a shot that skips out of here into right
36:19it happened so quickly we weren't even able to welcome
36:23Myers in but Teoscar did
36:28there's opposite field power and then there's right handers that hit the ball to right field
36:32like left handers
36:36it sounded so good off the bat
36:38Myers
36:40first guy he faces and it's back to a two-run game it's 3-1
36:46Muncie now comes up empty and they count nothing in two
36:50Myers
36:51kind of that middle guy Ron that they picked up
36:54former
