QOTD: What are your sports hypocrisies?
Transcript
00:00Hey, what are some of your sports or his sports hypocrisy 713-572-4610?
00:06That is the number to text inspired by the fact that the Texans will be in Nashville facing off against the Tennessee Titans.
00:12And that reminded me of that one time that Andre Johnson, the legend of himself, like the legend that he is.
00:18I don't want to say cemented legendary status, but just added another portion to his lore.
00:23That one time that he whipped Corlin Finnegan's ass for talking too much.
00:25Oh, man. Love that day. Love that day so much.
00:29Yes.
00:30And that's a real beef, too. He said he probably wouldn't even speak to him if he saw him to this day.
00:36Remember he was talking about the drop that you had?
00:38Yeah.
00:39Like he saw him at a club or something?
00:40Yeah. He said he'd probably just walk past him.
00:42Yeah.
00:43I'm like, damn.
00:43That's a real beef.
00:45But I always look at players that fight in their uniforms.
00:50Like, especially with credit, he took that helmet straight off.
00:53But I'm always just like, what are you doing?
00:55Yeah, well, there was one this past weekend.
00:57Yeah, it's like, what are we doing here?
00:58Punched him right inside of the helmet.
01:00Posting up with the helmet on.
01:01Like, what you going to hit?
01:03Exactly.
01:04Andre did it, and I was like, bravo.
01:06Just beautiful.
01:07You love this.
01:08This is art.
01:08Not only is that a sports hypocrisy, because as you mentioned earlier, if anybody else does
01:13that, you're like, what are you doing, man?
01:14You know, not only is it hypocrisy, if it happened today, the reaction might be different.
01:20Dude, they would be talking about him being banned from the NFL.
01:23Well, honestly, if it happened today with Andre Johnson, I think you'd get away with it.
01:28I think one of the contexts of that was...
01:30Man, I don't know.
01:31Andre, like, one of the things that made it very clear that Andre was in the right here
01:35is that we know who Andre Johnson is.
01:37He's not really talking to nobody.
01:39Like, Andre ain't bothering nobody.
01:40See, I would think that, but I know this is more on a serious note, but when Myles Garrett
01:45had his deal with Mason Rudolph...
01:48Oh, that's a good example.
01:49That's him, Mason Rudolph.
01:49I was thinking about that.
01:50That's a really good example.
01:51He did swing the helmet, so I get that part.
01:55But this Myles Garrett...
01:55Myles Garrett don't be hurting nobody.
01:57No, no.
01:58And they wore the helmet banned from the NFL.
02:00Yeah, that's a perfect example.
02:01Because Myles Garrett is just universally loved.
02:04That's not his character.
02:05A guy that got punched in the face and didn't do anything...
02:07Punched in the face in the streets...
02:09Yeah.
02:09...and didn't do anything.
02:10Mm-hmm.
02:11Yeah.
02:12Yeah, so many...
02:12And they wanted him out of the NFL.
02:15So what's your sports hypocrisy where it shouldn't be, but it is?
02:21Mine?
02:22Me?
02:23Look, I love the city of Pittsburgh.
02:25I've been there a couple times to the point...
02:27I thought about moving there.
02:31I'm like, three hours away from Cleveland?
02:32Yeah.
02:32I would never, ever wear black and yellow, let alone root for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
02:39And you're not even like...
02:41I know you grew up in Cleveland, your people, Browns people.
02:44You're not even a Browns fan, but you're just like, I can't...
02:46Yeah, I just hate Pittsburgh, man.
02:49The teams.
02:49Yeah, the teams.
02:50I hate black and yellow, man.
02:52I don't even like the Wiz Khalifa song, black and yellow.
02:55I just can't do it, man.
02:57The city's great.
02:58The stadiums are great.
02:59The restaurants are great.
03:00The airport is one of the best airports in America.
03:03But I'm with you.
03:05The Pittsburgh teams, I'm just, nah.
03:07Yeah.
03:07And the crazy thing is, they be having some great players that I will take any one of
03:12them players outside of Big Ben.
03:14But I would take every one of their players.
03:16But just for them playing in Pittsburgh, I'm just like, nah.
03:19Do you have another one?
03:20Well, I wanted to read this one because I also agree with it from the 5-1-2.
03:24Peyton Manning.
03:26Peyton Manning is my hypocrisy.
03:29And here's the thing.
03:30I love Peyton Manning.
03:31You remember the time period?
03:32Because it feels like in any sport, you've got to have the, you know, who's the greatest?
03:35Do you take this guy?
03:36Who's your guy?
03:37This guy or that guy?
03:38I was very strongly at Peyton Manning over Tom Brady.
03:40I was.
03:40Well, I don't know if I was that far.
03:41I was very strongly on that side.
03:43I was not.
03:44I was very strongly on that side.
03:45But yeah, he was just out here killing the Texans dead.
03:48The city of Nashville.
03:50I mean, that's a, it's not even an hour and a half flight, man.
03:53You can get to Nashville.
03:54You can go to the Opry.
03:55You can go to the, you know, all the strip there.
03:57I forget what it's called.
03:59The water.
04:00What, Broadway?
04:01Is that what we're talking about?
04:01Is it Broadway?
04:02Yeah, Broadway.
04:03It's just a beautiful, awesome city.
04:04I need to visit there.
04:06Live music.
04:07You know, just every, it's an awesome, awesome, awesome show.
04:12I was like, I hate their teams and their owners.
04:15How many, how many teams do they got?
04:16They got one.
04:16Yeah.
04:16I was like, how many teams do we talk about here?
04:18They got the Predators, don't they?
04:19Yeah, they got the Predators.
04:20Yeah, they do have the Preds.
04:21They do have the Preds.
04:22Don't the Preds be out there throwing fish on ice all the damn time?
04:26Yeah.
04:26What is wrong with them?
04:27Shohei.
04:28Shohei.
04:29Shohei is my modern.
04:30Let's go Dodgers.
04:31Shohei is my modern day Peyton.
04:33Because I was always so torn when the Texans faced the Colts.
04:37Obviously, you want the Texans to win, but I was a Peyton fan.
04:39Now, obviously, he's a Dodger.
04:40But I'm a big Ohtani fan.
04:43All right.
04:44How about this from the 832?
04:46They said their sports hypocrisy loved, loved them some LT, some Lawrence Taylor,
04:50and his possibly drug-fueled aggression.
04:53Hated Mark Gassineau.
04:55Well, he was a Jet.
04:57Oh, Miss New York in general.
04:59I got you.
04:59Yeah.
04:59Yeah.
05:01281, they said John Stockton would love if they were on my team.
05:04Hate him to death.
05:05Yeah, I'm sorry.
05:06I respect where you're coming from.
05:08Both of them, Utah Cats.
05:09I never like anybody on Utah.
05:12The only person, honestly, was Donovan Mitchell.
05:14And I'm like, bro, you should not even be there, man.
05:17I don't think he wanted to be.
05:18He wants to be.
05:18You should not be there.
05:20Oh, man.
05:20Yeah, that's a good one.
05:23I feel like one of the ones that's rough, and you know what?
05:27Sometimes you just have to lean into that hypocrisy, especially when it deals with your team.
05:31I believe very strongly in the idea that nut punchers will never prosper.
05:36Like, you just out here kicking people in the junk, right, for no good reason.
05:40You shouldn't prosper.
05:42I do feel bad for Chris Paul.
05:43Like, Chris Paul is a habitual, not just nut puncher, but then also, like, he's the tattletale.
05:50Like, ooh, you don't got to respect that, except he's one of the greatest point guards that we've seen.
05:54He's one of the best there's been.
05:55I don't know how to make that dichotomy shake, but they both exist.
06:008-3-2, they said theirs is liking Dak Prescott but hating the Cowboys.
06:04How many of those players do that?
06:06I'm kind of there.
06:07I'm kind of there.
06:08I'll take it a step further, and y'all might throw me out of here for this.
06:11I actually have no issue with the team, the Dallas Cowboys team.
06:16I have an issue with the fans.
06:19It's the fans that make me not like the team.
06:22That's a whole other sub-stack.
06:24I have no issue with the Dallas Cowboys as a team.
06:29Yeah, but Jerry Jones and all that.
06:30I can't get there with you.
06:31I will say this, and you reminded me of one, the University of Notre Dame.
06:39I've been there so many times back in my previous life covering college football,
06:42and every time I walked on that campus, I was like awestruck, and the tradition, you know,
06:48and coming from A&M, I can relate, and the actual gold they put in their helmets, and it's just so freaking awesome.
06:55And I can't hate that team more.
06:58I can't hate that team more.
07:00Yeah, I'm kind of, I mean, obviously, I'm like that with Michigan, the University of Michigan.
07:05But I have no issue with the city of Detroit.
07:07I have no issue with the Tigers or the Lions and all that stuff.
07:12It's just that team.
07:13It's just Michigan.
07:14What about the fight song?
07:16I don't care about the fight song.
07:17I like their fight song.
07:18Nah, I don't.
07:18It's one of the greats.
07:20Ooh, that's one of those.
07:21I hadn't even thought about it.
07:22College football offers some really interesting situations where I know there's teams that I go, eh,
07:27and I hear the fight song, and I'm like.
07:27You start tapping your toe.
07:31On the YouTube page, this is a really good one, because I think a lot of people fall in line with this.
07:38Hated Brady on the Patriots, loved him on the bus.
07:40Yes.
07:41I think there's a lot of people that, I can honestly say, kept that same energy, right?
07:45However, I get, there's a lot of people for whom that changed.
07:48I would like to know why that is.
07:50I think it was the Patriots' longevity of success.
07:53You know, the length of their success, you just had enough of it.
07:57Yeah.
07:57And, okay, how much of that is also than Boston sports fans, going back to the sports fans?
08:02Yeah.
08:03Yeah, that's true.
08:03Yeah.
08:04Honestly, just the arrogance and all of their damn teams winning something.
08:09I quite enjoy this new iteration of Patriots, especially because Drake May is like, he looks
08:14You know, that's so bizarre.
08:15We'll talk about this a little bit more with Thursday Night Football.
08:18I'm with you.
08:18I'm like, I like this guy.
08:20I love Mike Grable.
08:21But the Patriots, again?
08:24They were down bad for four years, and they're going to try and pretend like they was down
08:27and out for a long year.
08:28Y'all had four years.
08:30Try 23.
08:30Right.
08:31Try 23.
08:32Anybody worried about this?
08:34Yes.
08:34And then just the whole title town of it all.
08:36I don't really love that.
08:377-1-3, Kobe.
08:39That is a good one.
08:40That is a really good one.
08:41Because I don't think I'm really in a place where I have a hypocrisy there.
08:45I just know that my take, that I believe to be reasoned, is never going to be one that
08:50I can reason with the people that absolutely love Kobe Bryant, because it's not about reason.
08:54It's about the way they feel.
08:55It's like, hey, every time y'all want to talk about the greatest of all time, y'all go
08:58LeBron, MJ, and then the Kobe fans want to slide him in there, no, he don't deserve
09:01to be here.
09:02That's fine.
09:03We can talk.
09:03I love him.
09:04He's a great player.
09:05We don't have to do that.
09:05And of course, that's not going to go over very well.
09:11No, of course.
09:13There are definitely some Colts in here.
09:15And then 7-1-3, Eugene T.Y. Hilton, someone said.
09:20Yeah.
09:20Which, yep, that one's right.
09:22Okay, I was about to say, is that any way worse than Peyton Manning?
09:26But there's no way.
09:26There's no way that that's worse than Peyton Manning.
09:27No, no.
