Seth and Sean talk about how worried they are if CJ Stroud is still in concussion protocol when the short week leading up to the Bills on Thursday night starts.
Transcript
00:00So, injury news with the Texans.
00:01C.J. Stroud still out as of yesterday.
00:04Boy, we've talked about this a couple times, Seth.
00:07For those who don't know the rules, and we won't dig heavy into the protocol rules,
00:11but one of the big ones is you have to be back practicing for two practices symptom-free
00:16in order to get back on the field.
00:19This is one of those things with the short week next week,
00:22that if C.J. even got back just to practice on Friday, right, just to do a walkthrough on Friday,
00:26would at least shorten the runway of the number of practices.
00:30You know what I mean?
00:31I'm a little nervous that if he's still not out there on Friday this week
00:35and he doesn't play on Sunday, is there enough runway to get him through the protocol by Thursday next week?
00:40And do you even want him, if in that week leading up to the real practices,
00:48guys are still recovering from the Sunday game, and then all of a sudden it's Thursday and here you go.
00:54I mean, at times, different teams handle it differently.
00:57Some teams will have a practice, like an actual, their normal Friday practice they'll do on Wednesday morning
01:04or have some kind of a modified walkthrough on Thursday morning.
01:07So everybody does it differently.
01:09And teams will, it's one of those Thursday night games are so weird that I don't think,
01:14I think a lot of teams don't even have a standard protocol.
01:16They wait until that week, get a feel for how injured and banged up guys are,
01:21what it looks like, and you kind of just tweak it on the fly.
01:24So there's not really any way of knowing exactly how the Texans are going to handle it.
01:27Especially the later you get in the season.
01:29I mean, the Texans had an empty injury list like four weeks ago.
01:32They had literally, they had nobody, I forget if it was the Ravens game
01:36or the game coming out of the bye week against the Seahawks,
01:39but in that region, in that area of the schedule, they had an empty injury sheet,
01:43basically except for a couple guys that were coming back from the injured reserve list
01:47that were in their practice window, and now you look at their injury report
01:51and it's, I mean, it's pretty jam-paying.
01:54They got six DNPs yesterday.
01:56They got four limited guys.
01:58Now they, you know, Titus is back at full participation and a couple of other guys.
02:02But it's, you know, this is a time of year it starts to pile up a little bit
02:06and the short week matters for sure.
02:07I'm glad that none of my concussions were ever diagnosed
02:10because I try to put myself through the mental exercise of coming back from a concussion.
02:14It's probably, I don't know, like, because guys are well-educated now
02:18about how important it is to be fully recovered and everything,
02:22but you probably kind of will.
02:23Like, every time you get kind of jostled in the head,
02:27you're wondering and monitoring yourself to see, all right, am I all right?
02:30Am I thinking straight?
02:31Do you, what was the, what, I'm about to ask you a question.
02:35Yeah.
02:35Do you remember the time that you probably don't remember anything?
02:38But, like, do you, what was the, what was the worst, like, head dinger that you got there?
02:44I mean, I guess, like, all the time.
02:47We just got them all the time.
02:49So I don't know if that was the worst.
02:50I didn't know there was one where you had to, like, be taken off the field.
02:53As far as, no, if I had gotten taken off the field,
02:55I would have gotten diagnosed with a concussion.
02:57I think the biggest thing that I remember was the multiple times
03:00where I would be sitting in meetings and I just couldn't,
03:03I couldn't read what was on the overhead projector.
03:05Oh, yeah, there you go.
03:06I remember talking to Kylie once.
03:07I'd be like, is that overhead projector?
03:09Kylie Wong.
03:10I was like, is that, Kylie, what's wrong with the overhead projector?
03:12Is that, is that out of focus?
03:14And he was like, no, what are you talking about?
03:16And then the multiple times that, you know, my, my wife would come home
03:20and the car was, like, left running in the driveway and she'd, she'd come in
03:26or in the morning after I'd, I'd leave before she woke up
03:28and then she'd get up in the morning and the cereal would be in the refrigerator
03:32and the milk would be in the cupboard.
03:34Okay, that, that's.
03:35Yeah, and like the door is left wide open on my way out and everything.
03:39Yeah.
03:39It's a bad job by me.
03:40That would have been a better question.
03:41Like, okay, we know you got your head banged up a bunch.
03:43What were the byproducts of that?
03:45Like, what were the weirdest things that happened as a result?
03:47There were a lot of, and then there's just a lot of times
03:49when you think back on some of the mental errors you'd make
03:51where you can't figure out exactly why you made a mental error.
03:54Like, oh yeah, I had, that was, I was probably concussed.
03:58Do you think Coughlin is retroactively sorry that he probably got mad at you
04:02for some mental errors?
04:03Just screamed at people who were actually sorry.
04:07That's why I ask.
04:08He's probably P.O.ed about the whole diagnosis of concussion thing.
04:11He's the one that hates the protocol.
04:14Rub some dirt on their brains and throw them back out there.
04:17Yeah, man, that's it.
04:17Yeah, man, that's it.
