What Scares Seth about the Titans this Sunday?

Seth and Sean lay out why the Texans can't afford to take the Titans lightly this Sunday in Nashville.

00:00all right so so in the open to the show i was doing that thing i do looking through my rose

00:05colored glasses and dancing on the media and talking about how the texans are going to be

00:09amazing this weekend and now this segment in swoops seth pain to give me a dose of reality

00:15here on why i need to why i need to take this thing a little bit more seriously on sunday yeah

00:19i guess i don't know if you're new to the nfl sean or something but uh there's a term called

00:23on any given sunday uh and it's that way for a reason it's that uh crazy stuff happens i

00:29any given sunday in the nfl and uh every every year there's multiple instances of say the miami

00:35dolphins beating up on the buffalo bills or what have you yeah it happened last week yeah yeah i'd

00:42also remind you too that uh look the the texans are four and two in their last six games but they

00:48they are still a losing team on this season they haven't necessarily established themselves as one

00:54of the unbeatable foes in the nfl last six weeks they kind of have i don't know i like that four

00:59and two that you just threw at me right there somebody asked davis mills yesterday a very fair

01:04question about how do you get motivated versus a team that doesn't have a good winning record

01:07and um i think for one how about the fact that this texans team just a few weeks ago

01:14was carrying a six nothing lead going

01:17into the fourth it's this three titans team we don't you know i love the you know i love the

01:23advanced stat of points points yeah yes yeah and uh only being say off six nothing oh being held in

01:30the being held in the game by a dominant performance by your defense while meanwhile you continue to

01:36squander opportunities in the red zone that that's uh that wasn't that long ago that was against this

01:41very team they play on sunday that yeah at home so and uh they so there's that that scares me that

01:48scares me a little bit i will and the offensive line has made a lot of improvement from the first

01:53few weeks until now despite having to play different guys you know or maybe because they've

01:58been playing different guys uh but jeffrey simmons who hasn't been playing the last couple weeks for

02:03the titans looks like he's probably coming back he practiced yesterday he was a dn he did not

02:08practice wednesday he practiced yes it's a hamstring i think with him yeah uh he was limited yesterday so

02:14it looks like he's at least trending in the right direction if you're a titans fan so if i'm domico

02:19and i'm worried about my team perhaps taking this team lightly or something i might i might could show

02:25him that play where the texans offensive line just decided not to block forgot to block jeffrey

02:31simmons at all yeah they didn't decide to do that but there was a miscommunication and uh it really

02:36highlight the importance of hey you can't get away with this crap versus jeffrey simmons yep into

02:41andre sweat and they're also ed ingram ed ingram's been one of the two consistently solid offensive

02:47linemen on this team but he also just got old school butt whipped a couple times by jeffrey

02:52simmons it wasn't just that play where jeffrey simmons came clean unblocked because of a

02:56miscommunication and the game and those he's uh he's a nightmare he's gonna have fresh legs okay so

03:04the six nothing lead that the texans carried into the fourth quarter that makes me somewhat nervous

03:09jeffrey simmons makes me very nervous yeah um what else what else is there i'm not scared off

03:15of my prediction yet though the ravens okay this is where it gets tricky because we've seen

03:19where man it looks like the texans if they're facing a team that doesn't really have a good

03:24pass rush or a good defensive line they they tend to do really well it's when they face a good pass

03:31rush or a good defensive line that things start to fall apart uh the last week was a great step in

03:36the right direction because they did a good job handling the defensive ends for the jaguars

03:40jaguars aren't a great d-line overall um their ends are good though and they're good against the

03:45run and the texans ran the ball really effectively so that was a really good step in the in a positive

03:50direction the the titans defensive line is on any given d-line ranking they're right around middle of

03:56the pack okay they're a 15 16 17 so that's but which is way better than every other element of

04:01their team that's their strength is yeah yeah i mean so the if there's one area that could really

04:08test whether the offensive line is improved or not you got to look at that offensive line they get

04:13ardent key uh back as well this week or probably will get ardent key back as well okay um so and then

04:19if you look at also with their defense they they run a raven style of defense with a whole lot of

04:25sim blitzes and things like that the kind of deception that's really given the texans trouble

04:30at times confusion yes right now obviously the ravens didn't give the texans offense a hard time

04:37but i mean the potential for the potential for mental errors as we saw with the jeffrey simmons

04:45fiasco last time if they weren't very much possible they weren't missing seven starters they

04:50would have given the texans a hard time probably the ravens would have yeah yeah yeah probably in that

04:55game uh this is the biggest thing okay this is where really excited about davis mills performance

05:01last week but this and this matches the eyeball test in the last two games he has seven turnover

05:09worthy throws now yeah people are judging it a little too harshly i think exactly what he was

05:15doing on those if you go on the sum total of his appearances this year add the ravens game into it

05:19everything um of quarterbacks with a minimum of 84 dropbacks mills has the highest turnover worthy

05:27play rate yeah yeah yeah yeah fully 7.6 of his passes are going into harm's way no all kidding aside

05:35that is the one thing that and special teams gaffes like they had against the jags yeah those are the

05:41only two things that i think can keep that and i know you're you're you're giving a lot of good

05:45reasons here to take them seriously the titans the to me the the only way the texans lose this game

05:52is if especially early in the game where they give the titans reason to believe and hang around

05:57that they're either turning the ball over in their own territory like they did last week on both special

06:03teams and on offense or if they're giving up big chunk plays on spend like the invisible yards chunk

06:08plays if it's an interception the titans are returning it down into the red zone that that is to me

06:14the only way they win this game because they're not like snap to snap they're not going to win

06:20name 27 to 24 i know there's um i i feel like i need to defend cj stroud a little bit in people

06:27pointing out how heavily davis mills targeted nico collins and that boy boy davis really seems to have

06:34a connection with nico i do think that davis got lucky on forcing the ball to nico collins in the last

06:39couple weeks at times you know that one that that one where uh that one where nico had to go up and

06:46was sandwiched between the two defenders is an ill-advised throw is it great that it worked out

06:51and everything you know in the first time when when davis came in uh they should have been an

06:58interception downfield but nico broke it up yeah another time he really he led nico into danger but

07:04because nico's a big oak tree of a dude he held on to the ball and you know they made a positive

07:10play out of it you don't need plays like that versus the titans to win those are specifically the

07:16types of plays that at some point you're going to be unlucky on it and you end up losing to a team

07:21like the titans if you just go to you you can't have yolo mills out there there's no reason for

07:25yolo mills versus you right that's exactly there's no reason for it i think that's the big thing there

07:30that is that you nailed it that that is my if there's if you know if i have a fear in this game

07:36you know if this game is the death star what's the little hatch that you had to shoot the proton

07:40torpedo in to blow up the death star what's the little thing there that could turn into a big thing

07:44it's turnovers yeah davis mills and we got to add special teams because you know the last we saw

07:50texan special teams they were atrocious last week um and the and the titans have a pretty good

07:56return game they you know they're they're positive for them so um so that i'm you nailed it for me

08:04like that's the thing i'm most worried about in this game defensively it's really hard for me to

08:08get worked up about cam ward or i mean cam ward's a mess right now and it's not not his fault but

08:14there some of it's his fault just in that he's a rookie and it seems like he's not super comfortable

08:19playing under center so even some of the things they might be able to do to help him out on first and

08:24second down when they're running in on first down it's out of the gun it's it's not they're not

08:30really given a viable play action threat um but he's still capable of making those huge throws

08:37and you know on one or two plays all of a sudden breaking the game wide open but he's going to be

08:43facing a secondary that doesn't have jalen petrie or mj stewart right and calvin ridley comes back

08:49so say whatever you want about calvin ridley he's better than uh the the guy he'll be displacing

08:54when he comes back that there's you know there's there's still that potential for deep strikes

08:59or big plays or kind of uh a miracle scramble out of cam ward i'm not saying this is flipping my

09:05prediction or this is why the titans will win the game does it help them does it help cam ward

09:10specifically that they're coming out of the bye week that they've had maybe a little bit more time

09:14in this game to in theory yeah yeah that's i'm just i'm i'm totally spitballing here yeah yeah

09:19um so uh yeah because i don't know if texan fans knew that titans coming out of their bye week

09:24uh titans one and eight man worst team in the nfl you got to take care of this business texans have

09:28this the spirit of this segment is appropriate because the texans have lost a game like this

09:34at least one in each of domico's first

09:37two seasons here they just uh completely soiled the bed no business they just don't look any and

09:44versus bad quarterbacks yes yeah zach wilson specifically had the best game of his career

09:50will levis here last year in week 12 like it's um and and bryce young the in cj and bryce's rookie

09:59year you know bryce young is one and oh against cj stroud you know because they coming out of the

10:03bye week in cj's rookie year they lose to the carolina panthers yeah and that's a in the big one last

10:09year the cautionary tale from last year was all the blown coverages or missed tackles in the secondary

10:14and with the linebacking corps so if if they're a truly professional football team

10:20i know domico doesn't like to talk about the playoff race or anything like that

10:24uh but a lot of the players do and pay attention to it and they got to know that man if you think

10:29if you think you're somehow good enough to take this team lightly you got another thing coming man

10:34you gotta you gotta be dialed in for this one because you guys can't afford to you cannot afford

10:39to lose any of these games in which you're favored right good job seth i'm appropriately nervous

10:43now i'm not a nervous wreck but i'm appropriately nervous by the time the pregame show rolls around

10:48sean you're gonna be wearing depends i'm gonna have you so freaking scared can't wait it's like

10:53a haunted house this is gonna be awesome
